INUYASHA: your shadow

Chapter 4: The beginning

A/N: I apologize from the bottom of my heart, but things have just been very stressful. When I decided to write this fanfic I figured I'd be able to handle updating every other Saturday, but I was wrong. At the time, I wasn't considering other aspects of my life, such as homework for honors classes, extra-curricular activities, the end of the school year, final grades, family issues, boy- more like moron drama and so forth. And I'd hate to be the "irresponsible" or "naive" kid who couldn't manage so she told the world her problems, so from now on I'll be updating more often.

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or any of the characters from the series.

Summary: Kagome Higurashi is the new girl. Her first day of school is kind of rough especially after a certain incident leaves a special hanyou to act as her guide in their high school for one month. It can't be that bad shadowing one of the most popular guys in school, can it be? She automatically gets to hang with the cool kids, be noticed, and … Fall in love? All in one month? Ha-ha R&R! Rated T for language and a few kisses.

Upon returning home, Inuyasha was met with bitter annoyance. He had thought that Sesshomaru's text had been fair warning that their father was arriving in the front door, but when he pulled into the garage of their estate, besides his 2013 black Camaro, there was only Sesshomaru's white Camaro as well. He seethed at how he'd rushed home and ran 3 stop lights, when he could have simply stayed longer at Kagome's.

"Good to see your home." A low voice said from behind Inuyasha, causing him to jump a little. Inuyasha then turned around to see in the garage doorway stood his older half-brother Sesshomaru.

"You know, you have a lot of nerve sneaking up on me like that after the little stunt you pulled." Inuyasha spat angrily. Sesshomaru smirked at his brother's annoyance.

"Well I'm glad to see your home and have already eaten because the take out I ordered is gone, father is working late and I felt it was not my responsibility clean up after you and that little stunt YOU pulled when you grabbed that girl." Sesshomaru retaliated.

"Feh! Like I would ever need you to clean up after me!" Inuyasha retorted as he shoved past his older brother and entered into the home. He angrily marched up the stairs to his room then threw himself on the bed, processing the thoughts of that day.

(With Kagome)

As she sat on her bed running her brush through her ebony hair, Kagome nervously thought of the day's events and tomorrow's coming.

'Maybe it won't be that bad ...' she thought bitterly getting up to turn off her lights. 'What's the worst that could happen?' she continued after flipping the switch and crossing the room back to her bed, when suddenly the edge of her carpet tripped her causing her to fall face first to the floor.

"Oh Kami!" Kagome mumbled aloud still on the floor. "This is a bad sign already!" she cried lifting her head from the floor.

"Oh my Kagome, I heard a loud noise, are you alright?" Kagome's mother asked suddenly opening the door and seeing her daughter missing from her bed. "Kagome, what are you doing on the floor?" she said, then noticing where Kagome was, and blinking in confusion.

"Oh everything's fine!" Kagome said quickly jumping up from the floor and standing.

Her mother blinked with utter confusion evident in her dark brown eyes as she looked over her daughters reassuring smile.

"Well alright dear." Her mother said wearily with a smile to match Kagome's. "Well since you seem to be busy getting ready for bed, I'll see you tomorrow, Goodnight." She said closing the door leaving her teenage daughter in the darkness of her bedroom.

'She'll be fine.' Kagome's mother thought leaning against the door. 'I know she'll be … especially shadowing that Inuyasha, they might not know I noticed they don't get along, but I know they'll grow on each other.' She continued on letting a smile grace her features. 'And then maybe I could get some grandkids, with those cute little dog ears!' she thought grinning happily as she made her way to her bedroom to dream of future grandchildren.

(The next morning)

Kagome awoke early the next morning and groggily made her way to the bathroom to prepare for her day. Afterwards she went to her full length mirror and looked over her attire for the day. She wore black converse, light blue skinny jeans, and a black tank top under a forest green V-neck t-shirt that hugged her body and really let her figure show. She had straightened her hair and wore very little make up with it basically just being a small amount of eyeliner and mascara. She overlooked the outcome and took a deep breath.

"Now or never", she thought.

"Kagome! Breakfast!" Mrs. Higurashi called from downstairs.

"Wow, talk about perfect timing." The young girl thought aloud.

(Later on)

As Kagome made her way to school, she began to feel anxious. Her stomach twisted in what felt like a million knots, and her palms grew moist with sweat, and her mind began to race.

'Everything will be fine' she thought to herself. 'Then again it might not be too late to turn around and stay home for the day.'

The young girl came to an abrupt stop and hesitated about turning back. She only was a couple blocks away from school anyhow and she could easily go home tell her mother that she wasn't feeling well, and then just spend her day with gramps while her mother ran errands. Kagome allowed a small smile to grace her lips as she turned on her heel back to the direction of her home.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you." a voice suddenly called out from across the street. "Ditching can get you into serious trouble, if you don't do it right." A boy with chest nut brown hair said as crossed the road over to Kagome then smiled at her. She blinked at him a couple times before finally speaking.

"What do you mean: if you don't do it right?" she asked crossing her arms over her chest while looking over the young man.

He wore a pair of black and white Adidas, faded blue jeans, a white t-shirt under a gray hoodie jacket with no sleeves; he was at least a head taller than her and his eyes seemed to match his hair; he stood in front of her with one hand on the strap of his backpack and the other in his pocket, all the while still keeping that friendly smile on his face.

"If you plan on ditching, you can't just leave home and not go to school." He began before being cut off.

"Oh really?" Kagome teased pretending to be shocked. "Well, I don't know any other way of doing it because where I come from that's how you do it." She finished. The boy looked down a gave a slight chuckle at her humor.

"That's funny, but I was going to say, you'd need to set up an alibi or else the school calls home or sends home a staff member to verify why you were absent, and in that case I'm pretty sure you'd end up in detention and grounded." He smirked after seeing the realization of the consequences dawn on her.

"I guess you're right, so I won't be ditching today." Kagome stated plainly.

"I'm Hojo." The boy said extending his hand.

"Kagome" she said beginning to shake his hand.

The two stood for a while shaking the others hand and smiling until Hojo's phone alarm went off. He quickly pulled out the white Galaxy S4 and checked the alarm.

"Well since we're both headed to the same place now, do you think we could walk together, Kagome?" he politely asked putting his phone back in his pocket and looking to the young girl for her reply.

"Sure Hojo." She answered, before the two teens set off together.

Meanwhile, at the school a young red-headed freshman girl sat on a bench under the honing leading from the sidewalk to the school's entrance. As more of the school's more "privileged" students began to pull into the student parking lot with their expensive cars, Ayame knew class would be starting soon and Kagome still hadn't arrived yet.

'Maybe she's just a little late.' Ayame thought looking over to the sidewalk searching for the familiar face of the girl she'd met yesterday. 'Oh Kami, I hope she wasn't an allusion of a friend I want, that'd be the third time this week!' she continued to think as more and more students walked past her. Sighing in defeat, and standing to enter the building, Ayame hung her head low and began to walk towards the entrance, until she heard her name being called out.

"Oh great, now I'm hearing things" the girl whined throwing her hands in the air, but stopping when she realized, it wasn't her imagination. She then turned around and saw her friend Kagome waving at her, standing next to a boy who she believed to of lived in route to the school, because she'd seen him many times before on her walks home.

"Hey Kagome, I was worried you wouldn't come today." Ayame said timidly as she played with the end of her black and red striped long sleeve shirt that she wore with a knee length pair of denim blue shorts. Noticing the uncomfortable body language of her friend, Kagome acted quickly before replying to the shy teenager.

"What? I wouldn't miss today for the world haha." Kagome responded holding onto the straps of her back pack and smiling at the young girl.

"Oh haha" Ayame nervously replied beginning to fiddle her thumbs and looking down.

"Well Ayame, I'm not sure if you two have met yet but Ayame this Hojo, we met this morning and Hojo this is Ayame." Kagome said motioning the two teens towards one another.

"It's nice to meet you, Ayame." Hojo said politely to Ayame before she shook his hand and smiled at him warmly.

"Well I guess I'll see you two later." The young boy said smiling to the two teen girls before making his way to the schools entrance.

"Later Hojo." Kagome called out in the direction of his retreating figure. She then turned to the young girl beside her and began to catch her up on how she'd met her new friend as the two girls themselves started towards the school's entrance.

"Wow Kagome, day 2, boy 2." Ayame laughed as they entered the school and Kagome finished. Kagome looked to the giggling girl walking beside her.

"Ayame! That's not true!" Kagome said as her cheeks reddened. But this only made the red-headed teen laugh more. Kagome rolled her eyes in annoyance and turned from the girl and in the midst of doing so; it came to her attention that everyone seemed to be casually glancing towards her, except three girls carrying large number textbooks and dressed in similar attire, who were not too discreetly eyeing her like a hawk.

"Hey Ayame have you noticed the three girls over there staring this way?" Kagome asked Ayame leaning in and putting her head slightly down. Ayame taking notice to the changed tone and volume of Kagome's voice, she casually glanced in the direction of the girls then smirked.

"Don't worry about them Kagome." Ayame stated confidently looking to her friend. Seeing Kagome's confused expression, Ayame placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder before explaining. "That's Eri, Yumi, and Yuki; Super Nerds who do all the homework for the popular kids, but they're more commonly known as Hojo's fan club." Ayame stated.

"Really?" Kagome asked looking to the red-headed girl in front of her questionably.

"It's true … I bet the only reason they're watching you now is because they saw you with him this morning." Ayame laughed.

"Ayame that's not fun-" Kagome began before being cut off by someone grabbing the back of her backpack and pulling her backwards.

"Hey!" Kagome yelled after being violently handled and barely regaining her footing. She then turned around quickly and was met with golden orbs. "Inuyasha you jerk!" the girl yelled looking at his smug look.

"Who said I wasn't?" the hanyou sarcastically asked, leaning down a little so he was eye level with the girl.

"See you later Kagome!" Ayame suddenly rambled out nervously seeing that Inuyasha had arrived then hurried off down the freshmen hall. Kagome looked on after her friend briefly before focusing back on Inuyasha.

"What was that about?" Kagome demanded placing her hands on her hips.

"Class is going to start soon Wench." He then replied before beginning to walk off in the direction of his locker, leaving a very annoyed Kagome to follow.

A/N: I finally finished chapter 4! I'm so happy haha. When writing this chapter I was a bit lost and I wasn't really sure how I should organize it, but I eventually figured it out. Well once again I'm so sorry about the delay in updating. Also I'm sorry I kind of left off on a cliff hanger. I promise I won't make that many chapters like that and it won't take me so long to update the next chapter so please continue to read and review.
