Rebekah turned to Kol with a small smile as he sat beside her. "You reek of Bennett witch," she teased lightly, winking playfully. "Shut it, Bekah," he grumbled with a roll of his eyes. Her smile faltered slightly as she regarded him. "You really like this one?" Her tone was questioning but not taunting. "I'm not talking about it," he spat back.
"Kol, she's a witch. You're a vampire. Would she ever turn for you?" Kol turned to her with a harsh glare. "Stop. Now," he demanded but she carried on. "Nik's happy and everyone else wants to be as well. I get it, Kol, I do... but we can't rely on those who aren't already vampires. Look at me, falling in love with so many humans. If they're not immortal then they don't last."
Before he could answer they heard moans from upstairs. "I assume Caroline is awake, then," Elijah complained as he walked into the room. "I'm guessing so," Rebekah grimaced.
Caroline lay with her head on his chest, a finger drawing patterns on his bare skin. His own fingers ran up and down her side, the covers low on their hips so he was free to explore her torso as he liked. "I believe you have something to tell me," he prompted, causing her to look up at him as their hands stilled. "We're having a baby," she said slowly. "I know that," he returned as her content smile grew. "We're having a boy."
He was silent for a moment, a look of disbelief gradually changing to a smile. "A boy?" He breathed out shocked. He began to laugh, breathy at first but loud and joyful soon after. "A boy!" Relieved, she joined in with his laughter. She knew it was nerves mostly, but he was going to be a father. It was something that was taken from all of them the moment they turned. He hadn't thought about it since his human days and she... she was too young to realise what she could have had until she lost it.
With a big sigh he looked down at her, still grinning like an idiot. "What?" She asked self consciously. "I love you," he murmured, making her blush crimson. "I love you, too." She pushed herself up his body until their lips met, his arms wrapping around her waist. "I love you," he repeated, hand settling on her stomach. "He loves you too," she giggled just before he claimed her lips again.
Everyone waited patiently for Sophie to start talking. Klaus was shaking with the restraint he held himself back with but still had an arm across Caroline to stop her leaping at the witch. "Talk now or I'll set you on fire," Liz threatened impatiently. "MOM!" Caroline snapped, not wanting her very human mother to be hurt. Elijah shifted away from Liz and put Rebekah next to her instead. "Mom, you're scaring Elijah!" Caroline hissed. Klaus'lips twitched with a smirk but his eyes landed back on Sophie and his anger overwhelmed him. "I should have gone to Paris," Rebekah yawned as she inspected her nails.
Sophie looked at all of them confused. They were... normal. Though she was tied to a chair and threatened every minute, they were being normal. Stefan, the Ripper, sat beside Caroline's mother to hold her back. The Bennett witch - the one she had been told was a traitor - was ready to both defend and attack her. Elijah was a little scared of Liz but still held that looming stoicism that would scare anyone. Rebekah was playing the bored card but had a deadly gleam in her eyes. Kol and Klaus looked ready to slaughter but Klaus was the one holding Caroline back which surprised her. He genuinely cared for her and their child. Kol was reined in by Bonnie, a hand on his knee enough to keep him in place. The deadliest one seemed to Liz.
"Genevieve struck when we were desperate. Marcel has been keeping us from practicing for years but only recently has he been able to detect our magic and kill those responsible. We needed help from someone who wanted him out of the picture and had more power than him. We didn't know anyone like that but then... Genevieve came out of nowhere and promised to wipe all the vampires out as long as she could channel our ancestors. We said no.
"She forced us to comply because she was already more powerful than us. By channelling Esther's line, the most powerful line, she could do more damage than all of us could. My sister was the only willing member of Genevieve's new coven. Gen promised Marcel that she would rid the world of all the Originals so that he would never fear you taking what was his. We all know it ends in the death of every vampire. He doesn't.
"Gen brought back... Mikael to help her kill you all."
"WHAT?" All the siblings panicked but she carried on. "There's no stakes, though. Gen wanted to get close to you, Klaus. She was going to take the white oak ash and infuse it with a special stake crafted from another special oak. But when she saw you had met your mate, she thought she could use Caroline against you. I sensed she was pregnant and confronted Gen. She knew but wanted to kill both of them. That's why we fought back when you came. It was at the time she least expected it."
"She is still working with our parents and Marcel, though," Rebekah pointed out bitterly. Definitely should have gone to Paris. "Marcel still loves you." That surprised everyone, but mostly Rebekah. "He never loved me." Rebekah's voice was cold enough to make Caroline shudder. "He did. He goes on about losing his bombshell blonde. He tries to play it off but he still loves you. A lot. His latest fling is practically a carbon copy of you but human and in gross clothes."
Rebekah let out a huff of breath and shook her head. Her eyes landed on Stefan and she saw his hands tensing. Why was he angry? She wondered. "I want to help you take down Marcel and Genevieve," Sophie declared. "I don't care if you four end up as the rulers of New Orleans. Promise me that the witches will be free and we will help you. Genevieve and Marcel have taken too much from us. Mikael will ruin our home and Esther... well, she's trying to kill you but the balance is back in order. Killing all vampires will mean the wolves take control of the supernatural world. Wolves are notoriously impatient and angry individuals. Not the best rulers, if you ask me."
The Originals shared looks together, having some sort of silent conversation. It was only when Caroline shot Klaus a look did he answer. "Make one move against anyone in this room and there will be no more witches left in Louisiana." Sophie nodded, "Okay. I won't harm anyone. Especially not Caroline." She understood that was really who he was telling her not to mess with. "No one deserves to lose a child. Even you."
Genevieve limped as she paced up and down, waiting for Mikael to feed from the human she had brought him. "No," he croaked out through his desiccated body, eyes weak as they found her own. "I don't... feed from... the living." She frowned at him but suddenly he was across the room draining one of Marcel's nightwalkers.
"No!" He shouted but Mikael was lost in his feed. When the vampire dropped dead, his body too drained of blood to possibly heal, Mikael turned to them fresh faced and ready to murder. "Do tell me the plan before I leave to kill the bastard myself."
Genevieve just smirked as him as best as she could with her swollen face. Damn those witches and their beating. "Oh, we won't be killing him. Niklaus Mikaelson will kill himself." That had Mikael and Marcel intrigued. "We take away his reason for living and he will kill himself."
"Well, out with it, girl. What is so precious to him that he would kill himself?"
Pausing for dramatic effect, Genevieve looked between the two vampires staring at her. "His mate..." looking back to Mikael she grinned, "And his son."
"A son for a son. How poetic," Mikael coldly smiled. Marcel shivered. What did he get himself in to?
The blacony was beautiful. Ivy covered not only the walls of the building around her but wrapped around the white bars of the railing. A hand ran up her back as Klaus came to stand beside her. He had been gone for a few hours, locked away in the study with his siblings plotting.
"You are to leave tomorrow morning with your mother, Stefan, and Rebekah. Bonnie and Kol will follow you. Rebekah will return to us and we will fight Mikael-"
"Stop," she pleaded, turning her head to him. "Just stop, okay. I'm not going anywhere. I'm not you and I'm certainly not Katherine. I'm not going to run away from the danger to keep myself alive."
"But it isn't just you now, Caroline. You have to think of our son, too."
"I am thinking of our son!" She shouted furiously, pushing off the railing to face him completely. "I am not raising this baby without you. I'm not having my son grow up asking where's daddy because you're on some quest that could last god knows how long trying to kill Mikael! He'll come for me, Klaus. Genevieve knows about me and my condition. Do you really think they won't find us? If Genevieve is really as powerful as we think then she will find Bonnie through her ancestory. She could use Damon against Stefan. She could use anything against us, Klaus. So, no, I'm not leaving! I'm not running like Katherine because I'm not you and I can't kill my enemy. I'm not running like you because I can't kill Mikael. We can still kill Genevieve or Marcel if we have to."
Cupping his face in her hands, she made him look her in the eyes as his hands settled on her waist. "I. Am not. Leaving. You," she said slowly before pressing her lips to his. He deepened the kiss, pulling her along in to the bedroom.
The man watching their house smiled to himself and ran towards the compound. He may not have been a vampire but heard it all from under the balcony on the street. They would end Marcel if he gave them a reason to. Oh, would he give them a reason.
AN: I know it is a little on the short (about 1300 words too short) but I've been writing Carolijah during my college breaks so I've lost a little of my Klaroline mojo. I'll make it up to you in the next chapter though. Promise.
