I have discovered that even my thick lines won't work to divide these authors notes, grrrrr. Soooo I'm going to try this dashed line and if that doesn't work, well I can try x's. But anyway, here's chapter 5!
*Cassie*
I really hate the last day of winter break. I had almost 2 weeks off of school with no homework and now I have to go back again tomorrow, it sucks. On the plus side though Jack did send me a text message last night that I'm pretty excited and nervous about it all at the same time.
-Hey Cass, it's Jack. Is it your last day of winter break tomorrow? Because if it is I have a surprise for you! I'll see you tomorrow around noon. -
I thought this was absolutely hilarious because he sent the same message 3 times and he had to fully spell out every word. Plus the fact that he thinks he has to tell me it's him every time when I have already explained that I have his contact in my phone. At least he tries.
I figured it was a perfect gift because he wouldn't have to come knocking at my window to see if I was home or not. Now we can keep in touch even when I go back to school. The phone that I bought him was actually pretty cheep. It's one of those phones that parents get their kids that can only call or text one person. Seeing as though I was the only person he knew that had a phone, my number was the only one he had.
I sat in my room wondering what his surprise was and playing with my necklace Jack had given me. The chain was plain and silver, which I assumed he had gotten from North's workshop. The snowflake charm was what was so interesting about it. It was cold to the touch but it never melted. Jack didn't understand it much himself, he just said that he froze the snowflake with his powers. I guess there's still a lot about his powers he hasn't figured out yet.
I quickly became a little on-edge from waiting around so I made my way outside to waste some time. It was almost noon when I saw the blue-hooded figure flying through the sky.
He landed on the snow next to me and pressed his lips to mine. I was about to put my arms around his neck to hold him there but he had already pulled away. Dang it Jack. I really wanted to feel his frosty lips on mine for a little longer than 3 seconds…
"Are you ready to go?" He asked me with that crooked smile of his.
"Yah, where are we going?" I asked curious as to where we would possibly go.
"Well if I told you it wouldn't be a surprise," he said with a grin. I faked a pout and he took a round ball out of his sweatshirt pocket. It was the size of his palm and looked like a small snow globe.
I must have had a look of awe because he smiled before whispering something to the snow globe. For a minuet I was really concerned for his mental health but then he threw it and it cracked open and a strange swirling portal opened. Jack took my hand and he jumped into it pulling me along with him!
For a moment I felt like I was flying around but then I landed on hard ground. I looked up and tried to process everything I was looking at. It was warm and there were colored flowers everywhere. Trees and large stones with faces on them were all around.
A cool pale hand crossed into my vision, Jack. I took his hand and stood up and he gestured to the land while saying, "Welcome to the Warren!"
"The Warren? What's that?" I asked, still really confused about where I was.
"This is where Bunny lives and works." Bunny? Wait, I know Jack has talked about him before…
"The Easter Bunny?" I asked still not sure of myself.
"Yah!" Jack said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"It's just not what I would expect. Where are the Easter eggs?" As if on queue, hundreds of eggs appeared, walking on 2 legs! They milled around and I cautiously started to walk around, careful not to walk on the eggs.
I picked one up with both of my hands and turned around to show Jack. I caught him leaning up against his staff with that face and he blushed, finding that he had been caught. I quickly asked, "Where's Bunny?"
He cleared his throat before answering, "He went to visit some of his believers."
I wasn't really sure what that meant. But then I asked, "How does he paint all of them?" it seemed unrealistic that he could paint millions of eggs before Easter.
"He paints some of them with a paint brush, but most of them are, sort of taken care of already." He seemed like he didn't know how to explain it, "Here, I'll show you."
He started following some of the eggs to an area with bellflowers. I was just about to ask about them when they started to emit colored puffs of smoke to color them. I laughed and walked over to some twisted vines and watched while the eggs dropped threw the spirals to imprint a pattern on the shell.
*Jack*
I noticed that Cassie had left my side and I turned around to spot her by the small purplish river that sparkled. She must have noticed the small egg walking to the edge, because she ran over and reached to grab it before it fell in. It fell in and it looked like she was going to stick her hand in the river to save it.
I was about to tell her that they were meant to swim in the river when the little egg popped back up, now covered in sparkles. Then a bunch of eggs started to fall into the river and she stepped back laughing. I love her laugh, I thought, feeling my cheeks grow warm. Get it together Frost. I mentally shook it off and found some of the kangaroo's paintbrushes.
I turned to Cassie and asked, "Want to paint some?" I held up some paintbrushes and paint. I remembered her saying that art was one of her favorite things.
She turned and gave me that striking smile that made my heart beat faster. "Do you really need to ask?" she said, taking one of the brushes from my hand. We gathered up some eggs and sat on the grass to paint.
I'm really not the best painter so I just painted the eggs solid colors or with polka dots or stripes. That was the extent of my painting abilities. Cassie however was amazing; her painted eggs were beautiful. One had intricate flowers on it and another had some sort of geometric pattern. Another looked like a bunny and one had classical swirls on it. I didn't even realize that such detail could be put on such small eggs.
By now I had stopped painting my own and watched her. Her brown eyes that looked almost gold were trained on the egg she held in her hands. Her brush swiftly moved over the shell and curled at the bottom. This egg was gold with black details. When she was finished with it I could tell that the pattern was a rose.
She set the egg on the grass and it wobbled on its way. As she watched it walk away I shifted closer to her and rested my hand on her cheek. I leaned into her and pressed my lips to hers. She was so warm against my cold skin and I could feel myself getting drunk off it and I wanted more. She opened her mouth just a little to take a breath and before I could stop myself I grazed the inside of her mouth with my tongue. She gasped like she wasn't expecting me to be so cold and I could feel the corners of my mouth twitch into a smile. I could feel her hand moving to the back of my neck and running through my hair. It was almost like she wanted to hold me there, but that was really unnecessary because I didn't want to leave. We stayed like that for a few good minuets and I remembered where we were.
I broke away, rested my forehead on hers and whispered, "I hate to end this, but I think we should head back before Bunny gets back." Cassie nodded while taking a few deep breaths to get her breath back. I stood up, took her hand and led her away from the Warren. I jumped over the little river but she tripped and her foot landed in the purple liquid. We laughed and kept on our way.
*Bunnymund*
I jumped up through my rabbit sized whole back to my Warren. I had been with Jamie, Sophie and all of their friends all day today. I had asked Jack if he wanted to come but he said that he needed to 'make it snow'. I don't really get why of all times he would not goof around and actually do his job for once. He seems so busy all of the sudden even though it's always winter somewhere so he doesn't have any extra work. What do I care he's out of my fur, but Jamie seemed disappointed when he didn't show up. I'll make sure he visits him soon.
As I hopped further in the Warren, I couldn't help but feel that something was off. I crouched, and listened for any strange noises. There was nothing but the usual noises of the Warren and nothing looked out of place.
Then I saw it, a small set of footprints leading out of the river. "What the…" I muttered then rushed over there and examined the footprints. They were small and narrow but they looked almost like tread marks from a shoe. But no one can get into here except for the guardians and North was the only one who wears shoes. Although these were not his footprints, the man's got some big feet.
Ah well, there's nothing I can do. I shrugged the matter off and went back to work getting ready for Easter.
Whoa Bunny is figuring stuff out! Well not really but kinda. Anyway I hope you guys liked this fluff, I really liked this one. Sorry I didn't update sooner but now I'm getting ahead on chapters, YAY! So again thanks to all those who reviewed and just so that you know I'm expecting more reviews next time.
And as for a question… who do you think will start to question Jack's "strangeness" next? And by questioning him, I mean curious as to what has been going on lately cuz the guardians don't know that he has a girlyfriend! All they know is that he hasn't been around much, so it will either be Tooth, North or Sandy to 'find out' next. Love you all, bye!
