Chapter 4

Rin's POV

I sighed as I picked up the papers. I had a huge stack already, but there was a lot more to go. As I wiped my forehead, I heard the door open. "Back to be an asshole some more, Captain?" I asked, not turning around.

"Haha if I was the Captain, you would be dead meat, Rin." Renji said, crouching down next to me and helping me pick up the papers.

"It would be worth it." I said. "Thanks."

"No problem." Renji replied, making another stack.

After awhile, we finished and Renji helped me carry the stacks to my desk. I set the papers down on my desk with a relieved grunt, but Renji was moving past my desk with his stack of papers. "Where are you going?" I wondered.

He stopped in front of his own desk and set the papers down. "Renji, you don't have to do that." I said.

"I know, but I want to." Renji smiled at me and got to work on the papers.

"Thanks." I smiled back and started to do my own.

"It's no problem. After all, what kind of friend would I be if I let you do all of this on your birthday?" He said.

I froze. "How did you know it was my birthday?" I have never told anyone, well except Ichigo, and I didn't even remember it was my birthday.

"Ichigo told me. You guys used to be close, huh?" He smirked at me and I scowled.

"Shut up." I got up and went to leave.

"Where are you going?" Renji wondered.

"I'm going to kill a certain strawberry." I had a wicked grin on my face as I cracked my knuckles.

"Poor Ichigo." Renji muttered, going back to work.

I growled as I entered my apartment building. How dare he? He knows I hate it when people know about my birthday.

I pounded on the door with my fist and shouted, "Ichigo! You better open this door right now or I'll-"

I was interrupted by the door swinging open to reveal a smirking Ichigo. "Or you'll what?" He asked, but I was distracted by the scene behind him. My whole apartment was decorated with streamers and balloons and there was a huge sign that said, 'Happy Birthday.'

"What did you do?!" I screeched, pushing past him.

"What you don't like it?" He asked, knowing full well I hated celebrating my birthday.

"Take it all down, now!" I shouted at him.

"Nah, I like it." He smirked down at me until I kicked him in the shin.

"Jackass!" I shouted pushing past him with my head down, trying to block the tears that were coming. I hated my birthday and I would never celebrate it. He knows why I don't like it and still did this! How could he hate me so much? Did I hurt him that badly?

"Hey Rin!" I heard as I was walking down the street. I lifted my head up and saw Rangiku waving and Namida rolling her eyes at Rangiku's exuberant personality. Except, they both frowned once they saw my face. "What's wrong?" Rangiku asked.

"It's nothing." I faked a smile but it was weak.

"Don't lie. Who caused this?" Namida asked.

I didn't answer.

"It was Ichigo, right? I'll kill him." Namida glared at the sidewalk, burning a hole in it.

"What did he do?" Rangiku asked me.

"I don't want to talk about it. Can I stay at your place, Rangiku?" I asked, wiping my eyes.

"Sure. Come on, I'll walk you." Rangiku said, putting an arm around my shoulders. We noticed that Namida wasn't following. "You coming?" Rangiku asked.

"Nah, I have some things to do." Namida said, waving them off. "You guys go."

"Okay." Rangiku said, glancing back at her nervously. "I hope she doesn't hurt Ichigo too badly."

"He deserves it." I sighed.

Rangiku glanced at me but didn't say anything as we walked down the street towards the 10th Division.

Namida's POV

I gritted my teeth as I climbed the stairs towards Rin's apartment. Sure, she hurt Ichigo, but did he really have to make her cry? He was going to pay.

Once I got there, I kicked the door down and walked in, looking around. I didn't see anyone but the whole place was decorated with birthday items. 'Why was Rin upset over this?' I wondered as I walked through the apartment, finally coming to the kitchen where I found Ichigo on the floor, beer bottles all over and one in his hand.

"Come to kill me?" He asked drunkenly, taking another swig. Of course, he didn't talk that clearly but it's what he said.

"What did you do?" I asked.

"I'm a jackass." He grinned. "At least that's what she called me. I'm way more than that." He didn't answer my question.

"Answer my question." I growled.

But he didn't. He kept rambling on about what a jackass he was. I sighed. "Why are you a jackass?" I asked.

"I still love her!" He shouted at me then gulped down the rest of the beer in his hand. When he went to take another, I moved the pack out of his reach.

"That's enough for you." I said and he whined. "If you love her, why are you torturing her like this?"

"I don't want to love her! She's making me. Must be a witch or somethin'." He slurred.

"No, she isn't. You love her because you love her."

"I know." He sighed and tried to stand up, only to fall on his butt. "Ow."

I rolled my eyes. "Come here." I pulled him up and carried him to the bathtub. I filled it with cold water and dropped him in it.

"Ah!" He shouted in surprise. "It's freezing!" He tried to get up, but I pushed him down.

"Shut up. I need you sober to answer my questions." I said, holding him down.

"But it's cold!" He whined.

"That's the point, dumbass." I frowned down at him.

"Fine! Fine! I'm soberer now, happy?" He shouted in my face, pushing me back so he could get out.

"Good." I said, pulling out my zanpakuto and putting it against his neck. "What did you do?"

He sighed and rubbed his eyes. "You saw."

I frowned. "You mean the birthday crap? Why would she be upset about that?"

"It's a long story." Ichigo said.

"Good thing we got time. Now sit and tell me." I commanded and he sat down on the edge of the bathtub as I sheathed my zanpakuto.

He sighed again. "She told you about us, right?"

"Yeah." I nodded in agreement.

"Well, back then..."

*FLASHBACK*

"Hey Scar-chan?" Asked 15 year-old Ichigo.

"Yes, Ichigo?" Rin smiled down at him.

"When's your birthday?" He wondered. At that, Rin froze.

"It doesn't matter." She said quickly.

"Yeah it does! Birthday's are the most important days!" Ichigo disagreed.

"Mine isn't!" Rin shouted. The smile on Ichigo's face fell. "I'm sorry, Ichigo. I just hate my birthday."

"Why?" He asked.

"I don't want to talk about it." Rin turned her head away from the boy giving her puppy-dog eyes.

"Please?" He asked, doing the full-on lip pout.

"Fine." She sighed and rubbed her face. "It was a long time ago." When I died. "It was my fifteenth birthday and my whole family was killed." And so was I.

"That's awful." Ichigo whispered with wide-eyes.

"Yeah. I don't really like to talk about it." Especially since it was my fault.

"I'm sorry, Scar-chan." Ichigo whispered as he hugged her.

Rin smiled softly. "It's okay. You didn't know."

"FLASHBACK ENDS*

"Oh." I said softly. "You're a dick!" I shouted, punching him in the head.

"I know! I know! I'm sorry!" He clutched his head.

"I'm not the one you should be saying sorry to." I glared, pulling him up and shoving him out the door.

"Ah!" He said as he rammed into the door-way. "Ow! That hurt."

"Good." I said, pushing him towards the front door.

"Where are we going?" Ichigo asked.

"Wow, you really are stupid. We are going to see Rin." I rolled my eyes.

"What? No! I can't see her after what I did." Ichigo protested.

"You are going to apologize and you are going to like it." I gritted my teeth as I pressed her zanpakuto to his neck. Since Ichigo was super tall and I was super- (DON'T SAY IT!) it was an awkward position.

"Fine." Ichigo sighed in defeat.

"Now walk." I ordered and we were soon outside. "To the 10th Division."

As we walked to the 10th Division, we saw no-one so Ichigo couldn't scream for help. But once we got in the 10th Division, it was swarming with people.

"Hey! Isn't anyone seeing this?" Ichigo asked as people ignored them. "Hey you!" He grabbed a nearby person's arm. "Aren't you gonna help me?"

The guy looked down at me and shivered. "No way, dude. I saw her and Lieutenant Matsumoto train. She's a beast! You shouldn't have pissed her off, man."

I smirked. I seem to have built up a reputation here already.

Ichigo just grumbled as we made our way to Rangiku's room. When we approached the door, I knocked. "Hey Rangiku! Let me in!"

"Namida! Where were you-" She cut off as she saw Ichigo. "Dick!" She kicked him in the jewels. "Rin told me everything!"

I looked down at the curled up Ichigo. "He told me everything too. Come on, Ichigo." I kicked him inside and locked the door behind me.

"Why did you bring him here?" Rin asked, empty tubs of ice-cream scattered all over the room.

"He needs to apologize." I glared at the groaning mess on the floor.

"I'm sorry!" He shouted. "Can I leave now?"

"Say it like you mean it!" I shouted, shoving my zanpakuto in his face.

He stood up and turned around slowly. "I am really sorry, Rin. I didn't mean to take it that far. I guess I just wanted you to feel the pain you caused me. I'm selfish and stupid. I'm really sorry."

"Now tell her what you told me." I said.

"What?" He looked confused.

"When you were drunk on the floor of her kitchen?" I explained.

Ichigo's eyes widened. "No way!"

I shoved my zanpakuto in his face and made a scratch on his cheek. "Say it."

He winced and turned to face Rin. "I-" He took a deep breath. "I still love you."

Rin's eyes widened then her face went neutral. She walked up to Ichigo until they were a hairs distance away from each other. "I don't." She said harshly, turning around and walking back to the chair were she was sitting.

Ichigo looked like she had punched him and for the first time, I felt a little sorry for the guy.

"Leave now." Rin said, pointing to the door.

I winced as he brushed past me and walked to the door almost robotically. He unlocked the door and opened it, but before he went out, he said, "I'm sorry, Rin."

"Leave!" She screamed, throwing a book at him.

He left and the book hit the door with a 'thump'. Rin then broke out into tears. She was sobbing hysterically and me and Rangiku instantly went to her side. "Why does he have to do this to me?" She asked no-one as she sobbed.

"He's a jerk." Rangiku said as she rubbed Rin's back.

"I know! He's a jerk, jackass, bastard, everything! Yet, why do I still love him?" Rin asked Rangiku.

"I don't know honey."

"Love is evil." I said.

They both looked at me and started laughing. "What?" I asked, staring at them in shock.

"What would you know about love?" Rin asked. "You kill every man that approaches you!"

"That's not what I'm laughing about." Rangiku clarified. "She's in love with the Captain." She teased, pinching my cheek.

"She is?" Rin's eyes widened and she grinned. "Oh we so have to get them together!"

"I am not in love with Hitsugaya! I hate him! He's stupid and a jerk and nobody would ever love him! Heck, I don't see how his zanpakuto puts up with him!" I glared at a tub of ice-cream causing it to spontaneously combust.

Silence. Then, outside our door, we heard footsteps running away in a hurry.

Our eyes widened and we all ran to the door. As we swung it open, we saw a flash of white turn the corner.

"You don't think that was-?" Rin wondered.

"Definitely was." Rangiku said.

"Shit." I said as we all stood there, staring down the hall stupidly.

A/N: End! Hope you liked it!
