Chapter 11
Ikuto's POV:
I glanced nervously ahead at Amu. She was losing it. Her head was propped up using her hand – I bet her head would fall it wasn't there – and she kept looking around like a monster was going to attack her any moment. In a way, the monster had attacked her already. I have no idea what's on between Amu and Tadase, but I'm guessing everything happened after I left….at least, before I left, Tadase was as charming as usual and Amu seemed happy with him. To be honest, I expected them to get together after I left – and now that Amu's looking at him like that, I know how wrong I was.
As much as I wanted to ask Amu about this, she probably hates me right now too. I'll be waiting. Good luck. But she didn't seem angry when she said that…Screw this. I rip the corner of my paper off and scribble a simple message on it:
U ok?
I take the chance to put on her table when the teacher writes something on the board. She flinches a little when she sees the note, as if she was in la la land. Before opening it, she looks at me with empty eyes. Her expression is so sad it makes me wanna look away.
The note actually comes back.
Fine.
Don't look fine.
I AM FINE. She wrote these words so hard that I'm pretty sure her lead broke once.
Then care to tell what happened?
…Stuff.
I know stuff happened, what kinda stuff?
ASK RIMA. The hard writing came again. And this time, she didn't gently set the note on my table; she crumpled it up and threw it in my face. Okay…what class do I have with that girl…4th period…hm, gotta wait a while.
***Class Ends***
Amu's POV:
"Hey, Amu…where's the next class?"
This is stupid; he can speak English just as well as Rima and Ikuto! And we all get a map of the school on our first day!
"Shut up and follow me."
It was pretty much like that for the whole day. I couldn't shake him off, even at lunch. I couldn't talk to anyone without him being right next to me. My friends are all like, "He doesn't understand English well anyways, right?" And I'm thinking, He knows it as well as any of you guys.
Ikuto's POV:
It was already the end of school and I haven't gotten a chance to ask Rima yet. It never seemed right to talk about such a private topic in public like that.
"Rima!" I hiss as she passes by my locker.
She turns her head lazily, when she sees me, she straightens her back and narrows her eyes, "What do you want?"
"Meet me at the back of the school in 5 minutes. About Amu." I added the last part just to convince her; no way would she talk to me otherwise.
Her eyes narrowed as she balanced out her choices, then she shrugged and walked away.
"So, what is it?" she asked, leaning on the wall. Her face totally read 'Hurry up, you're wasting my precious time with your stupid talk'.
"Well…what happened between Amu and Tadase?"
She looked down, totally thinking she should have not come with me.
"It should be obvious…" she started, "He made a move on her, after you left. But Amu was stubborn and kept waiting for you," she added a glare here, "Tadase got pretty annoyed that Amu would wait so many years for someone like you, while he was right there and willing to give her a guaranteed happiness."
I can really tell Rima doesn't like me.
"I honestly thought the same. We never knew if you were ever gonna come back. And it was weird. You were causing Amu so much pain by one, leaving her and "promising" you'll be back for her and two, you caused…Tadase problems. But," she shrugged, "It all comes back to the fact that Amu won't give up on you." She looked at me in the eyes, "And she still hasn't. Now, you. You better make Amu happy again, it's the least you can do to repay her for waiting all this time and going through the worst be honest, I never knew her fear was that bad."
People are still trying to guilt me. I can't say I don't deserve it. I look down at the ground, a very appealing place to look at in these types of situations.
"Well, I guess I'm dismissed."
I look up from my staring contest with the ground and look at Rima. She was already walking away.
"Hey."
I whip around, just about to leave the back of the school, when I hear his voice.
"You." I hiss.
He smiles at me calmly. "Yes, me."
"What do you want?"
"Well…Amu seems to be quite fond of you, hm?"
This makes me wonder how much he heard from me and Rima's conversation.
"So," he continues, "How about we make a bet?"
This can't lead to good. "Continue…"
"See who can capture Amu's heart first. Loser backs off forever. Move elsewhere, never make contact with her ever again."
