Spencer's POV:

My mind is telling me no but my body, my body's telling me yes

I (baby) don't want to hurt nobody

But there is something that I must confess.

"Ughh," I whined as grabbed my cellphone and turned off the alarm clock.

Chills shot through my whole body when my bare feet met the bathroom floor. I stared at myself intently in the mirror, trying to grasp every second of this morning, knowing full well it would be one of the most important days of my life. Today was my first day of work, AKA the first day I begin my career as an attorney.

My shower was cut short by the multitude of incoming texts and calls from friends and family. I scrolled through the ones that stuck out to me.

Mom: Good morning, honey! It's Mom. Have an incredible first day! Your Dad and I are so proud of you. Call me on your lunch break!

Glen: Kick some major ass today, Spence. Let me know if you want to get drinks after work! :)

Ashley: Morning, Miss State's Attorney! Wishing you the best day possible. Don't be too rough on the criminals unlucky enough to face you in court today. Remember how cute their families and friends think they are=P.

Accompanied by Ashley's text was a 'just woke up selfie' she snapped of her sleepy self in bed.

Ashley and I have been in a sense "talking" over the last week. I actually can't even consider it talking because she's been in NYC most of the time, so we've been texting. I can't complain though, it's been refreshing having a new friend to talk to. It's also a plus her touristy selfies are the cutest things I've ever seen. Ashley and the Statue of Liberty, Ashley and the Empire State Building, Ashley outside the NYU Law building, and Ashley in Times Square. God, I really need to stop thinking about Ashley and finish getting ready.

I smiled while reading the first three texts, especially at Ashley's. But my face immediately dropped when I read the name of the fourth contact who'd messaged me.

Michelle3: Hey, Spencer. Just wanted to wish you luck today. You're going to be great. No doubts about that. I hope Jude is doing well. I'd like to talk later, just give me a call when you get a chance. =)

I sighed as I hit the reply button.

Spencer: Good morning from Jude and I. Thanks for wishing me luck. I'll call you later.

I glanced in the mirror once more just to be sure I wasn't missing anything. My navy blue suit is pressed perfectly and I'm having a good hair day. But no matter how confident I feel about my look and this job, I know it's going to be a long day.

I tapped my access key I'd picked up at the Human Resources Department a few days ago on the pad next to the door and entered my new office building for the first time.

"Well good morning! You must be Miss Carlin. Welcome and congratulations, we're so excited to have you here!"

Ashley's POV:

"Therefore Miss Davies, as you can tell from the work that still needs to be done, I don't think the club will be ready for another three to four months."

I looked up from my phone in my lap just in time to see the word 'months' fall off the lips of the future manager of Vita, Josie. Even though this is the most I've heard throughout the meeting, she's honestly hard to keep my attention off. Her jet black hair and piercing green eyes bring out her pursed lips quite nicely. It does make it a little easier not getting lost in Josie's stare considering there's about six girls blowing up my phone and I'm trying to sort out who's who at this point while awaiting a text from Spencer.

I shake my head understandingly and try to focus my brain on the meeting. My original club, Vice, is a hit and has become one of the most tweeted about nightclubs in the nation and my manager, Steve, insists we keep expanding while the funds are available and the hype is heavy.

"Gentlemen and lady," I wink at Josie and see the blush start to rise on her slightly freckled cheeks, "I think we got a lot accomplished today and I'm really excited about how things are coming along," I stood up from the conference room table and straightened out my Uprooted tee.

I said my goodbyes to everyone and headed out with Madison to the car waiting for us out front. Madison started out as my personal assistant but she's honestly become so much more. Ew, not like that. I mean she is hot and I may have tried to get with her once or twice but no, seriously that's gross at this point. She's been extremely loyal and dedicates a lot of time and effort to me and whatever business ideas or band stuff I'm dabbling in at the moment. She's also a great friend who won't say no to a party, so it's not hard to get along with her.

"So, we spending the night hitting up the party scene or are you ready to get back to the M.I.A?" Madison asks.

"Hmm, I said I would think about it."

I checked my phone one last time to make sure I hadn't accidentally skipped through Spencer's reply with all the craziness throughout my day. It's already 5pm and no answer. My ego is definitely feeling bruised, especially because I sent her such a hot picture attached. Whatever.

"Alright, Mads. Looks like we're staying one more night in the Big Apple!" I broke the news with a smile.

"Ahhhhh," Madison squealed and began her usual conversation about what outfit she was going to wear and how she was going to do her hair.

I smiled widely as I laid back in my seat and rested my eyes. Tonight is definitely gonna be a fun night.
