Rory looked between the other two in the group and asked, "What do you mean not human?"
"She's a Time Lady. Two hearts, regeneration, the whole shebang!" The Doctor looked at the pocket watch in his hands and ran his thumb over the watch's cover, "She went into hiding; Time Lords, if in danger, can change what they are biologically and hide. They change by Chameleon Arch. Painful stuff, mind you... The only thing is when they do this, everything that makes up the Time Lords, memories, personality, are put into a fob watch, except for a piece of them that makes up what is Valerie. What surprises me though, is that there is usually an automatic release. But this time not so much." He looked at Valerie who was still in Rory's grasp and squinted at her as if trying to make out something. "What were you up to?"
Valeries mind raced with words, Time Lords? Chameleon Arch? She looked at the Doctor her voice quiet,"W-what the hell are talking about?"
"Honestly, are you that slow? I just explained it in a nice few sentences, wrapped it all in a nice paragraph explaining the situation and all you've got to say is-", the Doctors voice went to a higher pitch, "What the hell are you talking about?"
Turning out of Rory's grasp she frowned at the Doctor change of attitude, "Well sorry for bursting your bubble, but I think I'd need a deeper explanation than just," Valerie mimicked a hand puppet, "blah blah blah."
"Well then here," the Doctor put his hand with the watch, out in front of himself and toward Valerie while she took a step back from him slightly, bumping into Rory.
"No. No. No. I am not touching that thing again. It's weird with it's telepathy stuff."
"It's not telepathy, it only acted that way because it's a part of you. If you fear it so much then it will overwhelm you, that's why you had such a nasty reaction. You've been avoiding it since you've been here, looking straight ahead when should have been looking to the conner of your eye."
Valerie bit her lip, debating on whether on not she should take the watch. Yes, it was hers, but after the wave of gold she was't sure if she wanted the watch back. He did say if she were more prepared it wouldn't overwhelm her, right?
Valerie reached out hesitantly to the watch, slightly more prepared. She felt the wave of gold wash over her again, this time a bit less forceful. She ran her thumb over the intricate circular designs much like the Doctor had done. She felt more relaxed than she could ever remember-for the two years she was here-and felt utterly and completely whole. There was something else there with the gold waves in her mind, a voice, it was soft, slightly musical and urguent as it began to beg her to open the watch. She understood everything now; what the Doctor said and what would happen if she opened the watch.
She inhaled and held her breath it for a moment looking at both men and looking behind the Doctor, finally noticing that they had stopped in front of a blue box with 'Police Public Call Box' written on the top of the door frame.
"S' a different color than I- I mean what she remembers." She said, holding up the watch a bit to explain the watches feelings while nodding to the box, the Doctor turned to look behind him where the box sat. A smile came to his lips, "Yeah, not the best regeneration to go through, but," he turned back to Val, grinning like a little kid let loose in a candy store, "nothing the old girl couldn't handle."
Valerie smiled sadly, she knew what was going to happen. "Is Amy in there?"
"Err... yes, but not in the best condition... maybe you should wait a bit before you go in." The Doctor looked at her warily as he recalled the earlier predicaments with the two women.
Valerie laughed on the outside while she cried on the inside, "No I wasn't planing to go in, Doctor. I was hoping that Rory here," she stuck her thumb behind her, "he could go and talk to her, scare her a bit but apologize in the end. Oh! Take them somewhere would you Doctor? They need a breather and time to think."
The Doctor stood still for a second before a brilliant smile crossed his face, "Absolutely! Rory get ready for the wedding gift of a lifetime!"
Rory blinked at them, surprised at the fast-changing atmosphere, "Wait a sec, you want me to go with him now? What happened to the whole defiance phase you had a few seconds ago?"
Valerie just smiled and said,"Just looking at it with a different perspective, thats all." Rory sighed, and started to trudge forward but stopped with a a gasp from Valerie, "Oh! Could you do me a favor?"
Rory turned to her, "What's up? Valerie stuffed the watch in one of her jacket pockets while pulling out another object from the other. Walking towards him she placed the object in his hand taking a closer look he realized that it was her video camera, broken.
"If you get the chance could you fix that for me? It accidentally got into a smack-down with a wall."
Rory gave her confused look, she was hiding something, he knew she was but kept silent for her sake. He agreed to help her and began walking towards the police box, stopping right before opening it, "See you later or at the wedding?" Valerie nodded, "See you at the wedding." And with that only two people were left outside the box.
"So whats your choice? You know either way I am going find you."
Valerie just sighed and looked at the Doctor sadly, "I know what it feels like to be alone Doctor, to feel like there is nobody except you. So as my final act as Valerie Chanalia I am going to watch my friends leave in a magical blue box, I'm going to go back to the hotel and going to wake in a few hours and watch a wedding. After that I will open the watch but understand this Doctor." Valerie's voiced hardened as did her voice. "I am not a Time Lord from your universe Doctor, so I can not forgive for what you have done. The watch-or Time Lord me has only felt one other mind here so whatever happened. I will wait for you to return for me to open the watch because I cannot promise, with a past like her's, that she will not harm anyone."
"So you understand what's to happen, yes?"
"Yes, but I want to watch my friends be happy before I turn into something else. I hope you can understand a dying woman's wishes."
The Doctor nodded, "Well then I guess I should be heading off shouldn't I? Have any suggestions for the nearly newlyweds trip?"
Valerie thought for a moment,"Venice, I heard it's great this time a year. Or Paris." She turned her back to the Doctor and his blue box, waving her hand as she said, "See you at the wedding Doctor."
Valerie didn't look back as the police box was whisked away, she never should meet the Doctor again. He was bad business. Valerie shoved her hands in her pockets, one hand holding the watch as she walked away. Valerie needed to escape and she knew exactly how she was going to do it.
