Wao, it's been a really long time since I touched this story, and for that I'm sorry. I kind of jumped out of the SnK fandom for a bit, so I lost some motivation for this story. I'm sort of back. Just for this chapter, then you'll have to wait for a while again. Sorry about that. I'm trying to focus my attention on a specific story because I'm a jumper, but it's not working. Did you notice the story cover? That's Erica as a teen! I might post the full picture on deviant ART so you can see it better. Tell me what you think!
NOTE: Timeskip. You should be able to figure it out.
ALSO: This takes place as if the newest chapters haven't happened. (Basically set after the Anime, not really following after Manga, though some things I might pull from there. Not sure yet.)
Pairings: LeviXEren, ArminXAnnie, ConnieXSasha, YmirXHistoria, JeanXMikasa
Notes: I might make the characters OOC, but that's okay because this story is mostly about their kids, so it doesn't really matter, does it? I mean, with everything they've been through, they're bound to act different than canon.
Another note: I am a huge Katekyo Hitman Reborn fan, so there are most likely references to that show in this story as well. (There may or may not be references to Free and Fairy Tail….) Try to see if you can find them for each chapter (if there are any, of course.)
Disclaimer: I don't own SnK.
~Experiment Success~
It's been about two weeks since Erica reappeared at the Jaeger house. She's settled in, Eren and Levi had filled her in on the basics of the word, and Erica had vowed to join the Recon Corps. They tried to discourage her against it, seeing as she was still slightly disoriented, but she was stubborn and didn't back down at all. They finally gave up and told her where the training area was for sign up. She thanked them and began to pack for staying at the training camp for the next three years. The men attempted to help her, especially Eren, but she refused help.
While Erica was recuperating and getting herself back on track, Eren and Levi noticed that she was slightly different from her old self. It was to be expected, of course, but it was still slightly hard to adjust to. Instead of her asking for help every now and then, she would always do things on her own unless she was desperate. She was slightly more outgoing and certainly more stubborn, but she also had a horrible habit to cuss in almost every sentence. She promised she was trying to break it, but they didn't believe her. She also developed a habit of hanging out in the tree in their backyard. More often than not she would fall asleep in the branches. It was something Eren found endearing, seeing as that tree held so many memories for her—even if she didn't know it.
Now all packed up and ready to go, Erica stood in front of the door and said her good-byes to Eren and Levi. It was slightly awkward because Erica wasn't as close to them anymore so she didn't feel super horrible for leaving, but every time she saw Eren trying to hold back his tears or Levi turning his head so she didn't see the sadness in his eyes, she felt a pang in her heart. She knew that the men knew her and cared for her deeply, but she just didn't have that much of connection with them anymore. She did feel like they were close, but not like they were in the past. Her heart ached at the thought. She hated the fact that they were suffering because of her lack of memory.
"Papa, Dad, thank you for everything." She bowed her head slightly. "I'm sorry that I forgot everything. I wish we had spent more time together, but I feel like I'll find myself if I join the Recon Corps, and the first step there is training."
Levi nodded as he crossed his arms over his chest. "I understand, squirt." He glanced to the side. "Just wish you could have stayed longer. Still fucking should, but you're not gonna listen to anyone." He mumbled unhappily.
Erica offered a small smile. "That's true. Thank you for understanding." She turned to Eren. "Papa, you can cry, yah know." Her smiled turned weak as she looked at him. He was trying not to cry, and he was so close to not to, but Erica's words opened the damn. Tears flowed freely down his cheeks.
Eren wrapped his arms around her shoulders and pulled her close. "Please, if you think training isn't for you, then come back. We're not going to be upset or anything—we just don't want anything to happen to you." He held her at arm's length. "We love you, and we always will, no matter what life you live." He smiled.
Erica stepped out of his embrace and Eren's arms fell to his sides. "Thank you Papa. I love both of you as well." She smiled. "I don't think I'm going to return until after training's over and we're allowed. I'm never going to give up." She said with conviction.
"Definitely our daughter." Levi said as he ruffled her hair.
Erica smiled. "I have to go now. Thank you for everything, even if I can't remember it all." She bowed to the once more before turning and leaving.
"Alright! Listen up!" Keith Shadis' voice echoed throughout the camp. The cadets were lined up in an orderly fashion, boys and girls in their teens mixed together and standing at attention. Keith Shadis, the instructor at the training camp for more than fifteen years, walked at the front of them, his hands behind his back. He gave the cadets hard glares. "Anyone here who isn't serious had better leave now and not waste our time! We need real men and women who are brave and not cowards! So I ask you," he was now in the center of the space in front of the cadets. He turned to face them, his gaze meeting each and every gaze on him. "Do you have the balls to defend our walls?"
A cadet in the back row snickered. Everyone froze as Shadis' head snapped to the direction of the cadet. It was a male with messy spikey black hair and golden eyes. An old red scarf was around his neck. The blonde male next to him slapped him in the back of the head, hissing, "Shut up!" as quietly as he could while still allowing the black haired male hear him.
"Do you find something funny, Cadet Kirstein?" Shadis' voice roared as he stomped towards the raven. Cadet Kirstein straightened up and hardened his face.
"No sir!"
The instructor was now in front of him, glaring coldly into his golden eyes. "Your mother was top of her class. Your father, fifth. I expect great things from you, maggot." His smirk turned sinister. "Though I expect it will take much training—laps around the grounds! Until sun down! Hop to it!"
"Sir…?" The cadet was lost.
"GO!"
The cadet began to jog towards the perimeter of the grounds, yelling, "YES SIR!"
Erica, who was on the opposite end of the back row, watched the cadet jog. Her attention was focused on the red scarf he was wearing. Why is he wearing a scarf? It's so hot out here. She thought, not noticing that the blond who was next to him was looking at her with an unreadable expression.
It was now the first night of training, and the cadets were eating dinner and gossiping within the dining hall. Groups of people formed, new people met and clicked, they shared stories, they joked and laughed. Even some obvious crushes were already developing. Although many cadets left during the day after being scared shitless by their instructor, the air within the hall was happy and cheerful. Each person seemed to fit in with each other.
All except Erica, who was sitting by herself in the corner of the dining hall. She was observing the other cadet's interactions with each other, an envious look on her face and her head resting on her head. Her finished tray in front of her was pushed to the side as she rested her forehead on the table. Ugh…why can't I fit in? She thought ruefully. Is it because I have no memories, and therefore, no stories to share? Or is it because I'm a freak with two different colored eyes?
Before Erica had any time to ponder this thought, someone sat down in front of her. Lifting her head up, Erica saw that it was a girl slightly older than her. Her long light brown hair was up in high pigtails that stopped at her shoulders, her matching brown eyes sparkled, and overall the girl seemed cheerful. Their eyes met, and the older girl gasped. "Whoa, I've never seen anyone with eyes like yours! They're so pretty!"
Erica was stunned. "Uh, thank you?"
The girl smiled before she gasped. "Oh, oh, oh! I forgot to introduce myself—I do that a lot, according to my mum, but what does she know—ah, I'm rambling like my pa says I do and—I'll just shut up." She sheepishly smiled. "I'm Patricia Springer."
"Erica." Erica offered a small smile.
"Erica…Erica…" Patricia put a finger on her chin. "Where have I heard that name before…I think Mum said it a few times—Pa too…"
Erica shrugged before picking her tray up and standing. "It was nice to meet you, Patricia."
The older looking girl smiled. "You too Erica!" She gasped again and clapped her hands as if she remembered something. "Oh yeah! Tonight we're choosing bunk mates! Wanna share a bunk?"
The smaller girl smiled. "Sure."
"Okay! See you later Erica!"
Erica nodded and left the table, taking her tray and handing it to a kitchen staff that would dispose of it. She smiled to herself as she weaved her way through the people and out of the dining hall.
"Erica!"
Said teen turned around, wondering who called her name. The voice seemed young, around her age, so it must have been another cadet. It also seemed to belong to a male, though the voice was unfamiliar to her. When she looked behind her, she saw two teens, both wearing cadet uniforms. One, the spikey, black haired male with golden eyes and an old red scarf wrapped around his neck, was taller than the other, a blue eyed male with his hair, which went slightly past his shoulders, tied back in a ponytail at the base of his neck.
Erica was puzzled as to why they wanted her. "Uh…yeah? Can I help you?"
This response seemed to shock the two males, thought the blonde snapped out of it first. "Erica, it's us, Drew and Xander. We've known you since you moved in with Uncle Eren and Uncle Levi." He sighed. "Don't pretend you don't know us."
The raven, now getting the shock out of his system, said with exasperation, "Oh come on. If this is payback for not talking to you for a month then we're sorry. We were busy."
Erica had no clue as to what the two were referring to. "Excuse me, but I've never seen you before. How did you know that Eren and Levi were my fathers? You two shouldn't have been informed of my last name." She crossed her arms over her chest. "Are you two stalkers or something?"
Xander, completely not expecting this response, couldn't help but feel his heart start to break. "So…you're not pulling our leg? You really don't remember us?"
"I don't, but it's to be expected." Erica said, the last part being whispered to herself.
Drew, remembering something his father told him, pulled Xander back once he realized that the taller was about to lash out at the girl. Xander glared down at him. The blonde sighed, mouthing 'I'll handle this. We'll talk later.'
The blonde then looked at Erica with a huge, fake smile on his face. "Ah, sorry about that, we just really wanted to get to know you! Our parents are great friends with your fathers. They talk about you all the time and we just wanted to meet you and possibly be friends."
Xander's eyes widened at this. "Dude, cut the shit! That's a fucking—" Drew clamped a hand over his mouth, which only served to piss him off even more, before he glared at him.
Drew then turned to Erica, who had raised a brow at the two of them. "Sorry about that, Xander sucks at expressing himself. I'm Drew, by the way."
"Erica, but you already knew that." She sighed, shifting her weight to one foot. "You know, you two came off as really fucking creepy, but something inside of me is telling me to trust you, so I'll give you a chance." As she started to turn, she said. "Just don't mess it up, pretty boy." She winked at him before walking off.
Xander, completely pissed, ripped the hand on his mouth off before glaring at Drew. "What. The. Fuck. Was. That. Shit."
Drew sighed, looking at Erica's retreating figure with a frown. "Xander, she has amnesia. She doesn't remember us."
The raven froze. "What?"
"She doesn't remember us at all. My father told me about it." Drew looked at Xander. "Two weeks ago, Erica was kidnapped and injected with something. She went missing for three days then was returned to her house. She remembers absolutely nothing. Not the kidnapping, not Eren or Levi, not us."
"What?" Xander was stunned by this information. He glanced at Erica's retreating figure, only to see she was gone.
"Yeah, and it gets better." Drew pulled on Xander's shoulder so he would focus back on him. "Uncle Levi thinks the kidnappers were the same people who abused her as a child—before Uncle Eren found her. He's conducting an investigation with my father's help, as well as Erwin and Hanji, but they can't do much because it's not in their jurisdiction."
Xander had seemed to calm down, but once remembering the time he and Drew were away, he couldn't help but be pissed at himself. "So while we were away, she was taken and abused. Fucking great." He balled his fists. "We'll just have to make her remember us."
"No!" Drew exclaimed. "We can't do that! Us forcing her to remember us could also make her remember all of the trauma she's been through. We can't hurt her—you should know that."
The taller male clicked his tongue. "Well then, what should we do?"
The blonde shook his head. "Nothing except be normal. We stay away from any triggers and make new memories with her." He then crossed his arms over his chest as he gave Xander a slightly smug look. "I guess the battle has now been restarted."
"Guess so." Xander then paused before he started down at him with horror. "Wait a minute, did she call you pretty boy?"
Drew nodded with a smile. "Hey, what can I say, I'm a lady's man."
"Prick."
A/N: Welp…this was shorter than the other chapters by about 500 words, but overall I think it's okay. Kinda jumpy, basically filler, but overall it's decent. Once again, I'm sorry about not touching this story for about…wow, about a year! GOMEN! But, at least there's this chapter now, right?
Reviews are welcomed, even if it's to complain about my slow ass updating!
