"Todd has been gone for too long." Hal Jordan, AKA the Spectre, growled at his collegue, Phantom Stranger.
"Give him time, Spectre." The other man said, smiling at the reuniting of the three Robins and the struggling they were doing to keep the youngest alive. "He is doing everything he can. Surely that is reason enough to let him be, he is trying to atone for the wrong he did while alive."
"How do you know that that is his motive?" the cold voice of vengeance asked.
"Because if he were being selfish, then he would have dragged both of them down to the depths already. Young Jason has been lonely for too long, Hal. I have often seen him by the Pool, watching his successor and predecessor. Often times he wished Tim dead, so he could have someone to talk to who he could relate to, Robin to Robin. He also would at times hope Dick would die as well, so he could talk to his predecessor, something he seldom did while he was still alive."
The Spectre growled impatiently "What is your point? My patience is wearing thin. You know what will happen to him if I deem that he has overstayed his welcome."
Phantom Stranger sighed
"Just give him a little more time, Jordan. That is all I'm asking."
"Fine. But I will give him a personal warning." The Spectre said, disappearing.
"Poor lad. He really deserves a second chance." The Stranger lamented "Why can't death be pleasant for him? His life was hell, With Hal in charge of his actions, his death is no less unpleasant."
"Especially if Hal gets his way." A voice said, wind blowing past the Stranger.
"What do you mean, Allen?"
The former Flash sighed heavily "I can't believe you don't know. The Spectre is jealous of Batman always getting sidekicks, while The Spectre is alone in his vengeance crusade."
"He wouldn't." Stranger said, eyes wide.
"He's The Spectre. He sure would. In fact, if I didn't know better, I'd say this whole thing was a test to see if Todd could fulfill the role of guardian. We'll see. I call dibs on the Pool!"
Stranger frowned and sat, making a window as Allen whooshed off.
"I hope you are wrong. I really do. ONE Spectre is enough."
Stranger gasped as he noticed a transparent being on the ground, wearing the red and black of the current Boy Wonder. The figure was going in and out, flickering and refusing to solidify.
"I also hope whatever Grayson is doing, that it works, for Tim's sake. Please, be successful Boy Wonders."
