Chapter 13

Jack Frost

Rapunzel rubbed my back while I went back and forth between hurt and quiet outrage. "She and I-we were so compatible, you know, Punz? But then-" my voice cracked, "I don't know what happened. How long has this fucking been going on?"

"I don't know," she replied quietly. "Shh, it'll be okay, Jack. You'll be fine. How 'bout we go somewhere this afternoon? Bring Hiccup and Merida? Anywhere, just name the place."

"Ugh. Frizzy-head?" But I grinned at her. "Anywhere?"

Rapunzel nodded. "Anywhere." Then she caught my eye and said, "Oh no."

"Oh yes, Punzie." I smirked at her mischievously. "Come on. Let's go get the other two." I jumped up, grabbed her arm, and pulled her back into the building.

"I shouldn't have said anywhere!" Rapunzel complained as we got out of Merida's car. I had suggested we go to my house first, then to my cousin Aster's bar. "My mom will FREAK if she finds out!"

"Which she won't. Don't worry yer pretty little head, lassie. You'll be fine." Merida slammed her car door. "So, Frosty, why are we at yer house again?"

"To make sure where that Aster's here, not at the Warren. If he's not in my house, which he usually isn't, we could get busted by my damn fucking ass-hole of a cousin and I could get grounded." I replied.

"Great. Sounds like a plan," Hiccup remarked sarcastically, rolling his eyes. I just grinned and walked inside. The others followed.

"JACK!" Maddie squealed, running towards me. Then she stopped in her tracks, her brown hair swinging, and stared at the people behind me. "Uh, who are you?" she asked.

I burst out laughing. "Guys, this is my little sister Maddie. Maddie, these are my friends: Hiccup, Rapunzel, and Frizzy."

"WHAT?!" Merida exploded. She balled her fist and stepped closer to me. "Ah told yah not tah call meh that, Frosty the Snowman!"

I rolled my eyes. "Whatever. Her name's actually Frizzy, but everyone just calls her Merida." Hiccup facepalmed.

"AAAUUUUUGHH!" Merida screamed in frustration. "AH GIVE UP!"

Rapunzel placed a hand on her shoulder. "Calm down, Merida. Jack," she turned to me, "please, kindly shut your mouth. We're trying to keep this violence-free here. For your sister." She pointed to Maddie.

"Uh, yeah, right," I chuckled. "Okay, guys, let's go up to my room."

"Bye, Jack's friends!" Maddie waved as we went upstairs.

When we were in my room and the door was safely locked behind us, I said, "Okay, so Aster isn't downstairs. So that either means he's here and somewhere else in the house, or at the Warren."

"I still really think that we shouldn't-" Rapunzel began.

Merida cut her off. "Aw, relax, Punzie. Ah'm not gonna let 'em do anything tae either of us."

"Hello? What about the guys here?" Hiccup asked.

Merida crossed her eyes at him. "That's just pathetic, Haddock."

I grinned. "Okay, guys. I'm gonna scope out the house. You wanna come?" I waggled my eyebrows at them.

Hiccup shoved me. "You make us sound like spies or something," he complained. "Go yourself."

I walked out of my room, and peered into all of the bedrooms. My other relatives were at work, but Aster was on and off, no definite schedule. Suddenly, loud rock music started blaring through Aster's door.

"Yep, he's home." I clarified when I went back to my room. "We're going to the Warren today." Rapunzel and Hiccup gulped in unison and Merida rolled her eyes.

"Let's jest go." She pushed past me out the door and the rest of us followed.

"Bye, Maddie!" I called as we passed by her. "Tell Mom me and my friends are out watching a movie!"

"Okay, bye!" she called back, smiling at Rapunzel. Rapunzel smiled back nervously.

"Whoo hoo! This place es awesome!" Merida shouted into my ear.

"Princess, can't you be quiet in a place that's already making me deaf?" I shouted to her, covering my ear.

"Don't call mah Princess," she responded curtly. We were at the Warren, and I felt out of place, like a little kid in a busy office swarming with grown-ups or something.

"Okay, so what are we gonna do here?" Hiccup asked me.

"That's the stupidest question I have ever heard," I scoffed. "Of course you know what we're going to do."

Rapunzel's eyes widened at the same time Hiccup's did. I pushed them off towards the bar and took a seat.

"I'll have a beer on tap," I ordered, lazing on a chair. The guy grunted and slid one down to me. I caught it and took a big swig from it. I coughed and wheezed out, "Man, that's strong." I wiped my watering eyes. I held the mug out to my friends. "You want some, guys?"

Hiccup shook his head. "Uh, no thanks. I think I'll wait till I'm old enough."

"Me too," Rapunzel agreed, backing away from the bar.

"Sissies," Merida told them scornfully. She told the guy behind the bar, "Ah'll have shots, with some heavy vodka." She turned to me. "Frost, you aren't the only one who knows their alcohol." She grabbed her drink and downed half of it before coughing and wiping her eyes. "God damn it," she muttered, followed by a string of Scottish curses. She managed to finish it, though, as did I before we stood up and left.

In the parking lot, Rapunzel said, "So . . . what now?" She looked at me and smiled. "Since you're drunk and happy?"

"Happy?" my words slurred together. "Hiccup, you drive. Punzie, you wanna sit in the back with me?"

She laughed. "Um, sure. Okay, I guess."

I was just about to get into the car when I heard a familiar Australian accent behind me.

"And where do you think you're goin', Frostbite?"

I groaned, my head felt a bit fuzzy. I jumped into the car and slammed the door behind me. "Hiccup, go!" I managed, and Hiccup pulled the shift gear into reverse, and we were out of there.

"Where to?" he asked.

Rapunzel answered. "Back to Jack's house. We gotta get Merida and Jack sober before their parents find out about our 'movie afternoon'"

"Ah didn't see no movies," Merida slurred.

"Me neither," I said, resting my head on Punzie's shoulder. She began to absentmindedly stroke my hair.

"A movie would've been nice, though," she said wistfully.

I lifted my head up a bit. "Really? Well, how 'bout I take you to one next week, Saturday, 3:00 pm? You good? Good."

Rapunzel laughed softly. "Okay, Jack. Whatever you say."

I had just scored a date with one of my best friends, and I had to get drunk to do it.
