Chapter 8: Moves

Tenten waited impatiently in the small examination room at the hospital for the results of her blood work to come back to her. Nanami squirmed just as impatiently on Tenten's lap, reaching for all of the interesting looking instruments and tools on the counter across from the small sterile bed Tenten sat upon.

"No, Nanami." Tenten mumbled quietly, trying to contain her nerves. But it wasn't working. Sasuke had been gone three days with Naruto, and Tenten's nausea had not subsided like she prayed it would. She was beginning to feel like she didn't need that blood work done in the first place. "Ow!" She yelped as her child grabbed hold of her hair and tugged it hard. Takin a deep breath, she untangled Nanami's hand from her brown locks and pushed her hair behind her shoulders and out of the toddlers reach.

After approximately thirty minutes of waiting, the door clicked open and a reluctant looking pink haired nurse walked in. She looked Tenten up and down and looked down at the clip board. She couldn't quell the rage that was welling up within her, Tenten sitting there holding Sasuke's child that looked identical to the man that she loved. Sakura deserved that, not Tenten. Especially with the fact that Neji was indeed alive and well. She half expected the brunette to kick Sasuke to the curb and run back into Neji's loving arms. And she was seething with anger when she didn't see that come to fruition. Tenten's blood work came back positive for pregnancy. Another child would be born into the Uchiha clan, and it was Sakura's dream to be the one to help Sashke achieve that goal. Tenten had taken everything from her.

Her heart leapt in her chest when she looked upon the small girl on Tenten's lap. "She's beautiful, Tenten." Sakura managed to speak softly, not wanting to do any harm to Sasuke's child. But this didn't mean that Tenten didn't have to. "Your results came back negative, Tenten. Your body is just probably trying to adjust to the new training regimen when Neji."

"Are you sure? I'm almost positive I missed a period last month." Tenten narrowed her eyes and wondered why Sakura was even the one to be bringing her the results in the first place.

"That could also have something to do with training. You're getting used to it, I'm sure your period will Show up once your body has gotten used to your new work outs. Te Neji and Sasuke I said hi." She chimed, forcing a smile. "Bye, bye Nanamk!" She said waving cutely at the little girl.

Nanami seemed fascinated with her hair, but waved back none the less.

"Okay, thank you." Tenten said a little confused. "Well Nanami, what do you say we pay Uncle Neji and Uncle Lee a little visit?"

A warm, dry wind hit his stoic face and whirled through his raven locks as he stood atop the overlook in the Kazekage's Tower. Sasuke let out a quiet sigh, hoping Tenten and Nanami were getting along alright, and also hoping his brother wasn't making any moves on his girl. Maybe Itachi's strange advances were some type of tactic to get Sasuke to propose to Tenten, and take her completely off the market. If so, it might be working.

He looked down at the palm of his hand where a tiny ring with a simply yet elegant single stone sparkled in the Suna sun. Just looking at it, caused his stomach to knot.

"Thinking of proposing to small fry, hm?" Came a gruff female voice as she came up beside Sasuke.

He closed his fist quickly and averted his eyes to hers. "Nice to see you too, Temari." Sasuke said.

The sandy haired blonde girl put a hand on her hip and gave him a sly smirk. "Isn't that what I saw, an engagement ring?"

Sasuke shrugged his shoulders, not particularly wanting to discuss this matter with her, at all. This was personal, and he was a private person who kept to himself. He had issues expressing himself to Tenten. How the hell did he expect to ask her? Maybe instead of asking, he would just tell her, or suggest it. It sounded good to him. "It is." Be finally said.

"She'll be happy." Temari smiled and twirled the ring that Shikamaru had given her around her finger. "She didn't have a family, you know. So you're able to give her that. Don't waste anymore time."

Sasuke looked over at the blonde and quirked a dark eyebrow. "What are you insinuating. Temari?"

"Look, I'm just saying you need to make a move soon, or someone else might."

Tenten looked at her former lover in shock, blinking her eyes and unsure if she had heard correctly when he said that he had proposed to her friend Ino. This was no doubt, extremely odd. She swallowed a lump in her throat and cleared it, adjusting her grip on Nanami.

"Is that so?" She asked, finally able to smile. "Well congratulations." She supposed that's where Neji and Sasuke differed. Neji was willing to commit all the way. But it didn't bother her, or at least she wouldn't dare admit it if it did.

"Thank you, Tenten. It means a lot coming from you." He spoke softly as he gently tickled the underneath of Nanami's chin. The toddler squealed and giggled cutely in response.

Tenten hadn't seen Neji like this. It was so strange, he was soft, gentle sweet and caring. He was changing as he grew older.

"Wow Neji! Soon you'll have a little one like Nanami!" Lee chimed happily as he made silly faces at the small girl.

Nanami reached out her hand and patted Lee on the face, making an annoyed one that could rival her mothers and she grunted. "No!"

Tenten held back the urge to laugh and she reprimanded her child. "Sorry, Lee."

"She's just like you, Tenten." Neji caught her eyes with his own and he smiled fondly at her.

Why did his smile suddenly make her heart stop for a moment? She felt her cheeks flush a little before she shook her head. "She's certainly something else."

"You wanna train today, Tenten?" Lee asked, breaking the awkward silence that had befallen upon them.

"Actually I-"

"Lee, she can't. She might be pregnant." Neji answered for her.

Now things were really strange, and starting to feel like old times. "Well, Sakura told me today that my blood work came back negative. So I'm not pregnant."

"That just doesn't seem right, when clearly there's more chakra coming from you than normal." Neji folded his arms and frowned. "But I suppose blood work doesn't lie."

No, but Sakura does. "I'll catch you two later, I need to do something."

She dismissed her friends and she and Nanami waved happily at them before walking back toward the hospital to demand some answers when her child screamed and wiggled in her arms. "Ita!"

Tenten's heart stopped mentally but she calmed when she saw Itachi approaching them.

"Hello Tenten." He smiled a little before scooping Nanami into his arms and nuzzling her nose with his own. What was comical about the entire thing was that his stoic expression remained unchanging. "Nanami." He kissed her cheek and gave her a lolly pop from his back pocket and she squealed Happily.

"You spoil her." Tenten frowned, disapprovingly.

Itachi looked at her seriously and pierced her with those eyes that looked identical to Sasuke's. "Does my brother make you happy?"

Tenten hadn't a clue where that question had come from, it was sudden and strange. "Of course he does."

"Are you certain?" His eyes flashed something unfamiliar and almost deadly. "Tenten, I-"

"Da!" Nanami interrupted as she reached for something behind Itachi.

"Hey, Nanami." Rang Sasuke's voice as he walked up to the three of them.
