And the votes have been tallied! So . . . -wise, Jack and Rapunzel won by a long-shot for Snow King and Queen! *huge round of applause* BUT, for my offline survey, Jack and ELSA won for Snow King and Queen by only two votes! So, I took another offline survey afterwards to determine who would win and . . .
Chapter 25
Jack Frost
I couldn't help but feel anxious as Punzie and I danced. Would she win? Would I win, for that matter? I had never run for any of these kinds of things before. My sister did, but I was always the loner guy, never letting anyone in until I met Rapunzel. She's beautiful; she's like a flower, delicate yet resilient. Maybe one day I'll muster up enough courage to tell her I love her. Actually tell her I love her. Maybe on a date. Maybe in college. I didn't know. But I was sure we could be something.
"And our Snow King is . . ." Principal Manny opened the cream-colored envelope and winked, causing more suspense to build up in the crowd. He leaned into the microphone and said . . . "Jack Frost!"
I felt something weird in my chest as I walked up to the stage. I had never won anything like this before, nor had I ever signed up for this stuff. Principal Manny placed the shiny plastic crown with fake jewels embedded in it on my head. I smiled at my friends awkwardly.
"Now, our Snow Queen is . . ." Principal Manny opened up the envelope and gaped. "Merida DunBroch?"
"WHAT?" Merida yelled from the back where she had been talking to the DJ. "Ah didn't even put mah name en the ballot!"
Hiccup laughed and shouted, "Happy early April Fools' Day, Mer!" before running back up to the stage and handing the principal a new envelope.
I watched from the stage as Rapunzel breathed a sigh of relief. When Principal Manny opened it, his eyes bulged out of his head yet again. "What's this? It's a tie!"
"A tie?!" someone from the back cried.
"A tie," he confirmed. "Between Miss Elsa Arendelle and Miss Rapunzel Corona!"
My eyes grew wide as the two climbed opposite steps onto the stage. I scratched the back of my neck nervously. "Well, uh, good job you two," I began awkwardly.
"Wait!" Principal Manny interrupted. "We are to have a recount of the ballots and will see who are Snow Queen is! Don't go anywhere!" He laughed his jolly laugh, his bald head gleaming in the spotlight.
After a really long wait, we finally got our announcements. I was still Snow King, but this final vote would determine who would be my Queen: my girlfriend, or my ex-girlfriend. So no pressure, right? I managed a shaky smile for the crowd.
"And our Snoq Queen is . . ." Principal Manny waited for the drumroll, which came on cue. "Miss Elsa Arendelle! Congratulations, young lady! You only won by one vote!" He placed the silver tiara with a single blue gem in the middle on her head. Rapunzel dismounted the stairs, looking a little sad but putting on a brave smile.
The principal grinned mischievously. "Now, for the King and Queen's first Snow Ball dance!" The crowd parted for us. I held out my hand to Elsa, who took it graciously. We stepped out onto the middle of the dance floor and began to slow dance. It was extremely awkward for us, despite Elsa's gracefulness.
"So . . ." I said.
"How have you been?" she asked, blushing.
"Good, good," I replied. "How about you?"
"Oh, I've been fine. Did you hear about Hans and I?" Elsa asked, biting her perfectly glossed lip.
"Yeah, actually, I did. Does he-does he make you happy?"
She smiled. "Yes. He does. He makes me very happy, Jack. And though I absolutely and wholly regret cheating on you with him . . . I do not regret loving him."
I nodded in understanding as the song ended. "Well, you should go to your boyfriend," I told her, not unkindly.
"And you should go to your girlfriend," Elsa encouraged. She gave me a small kiss on the cheek before melting into the crowd.
I followed her advice and looked for Rapunzel, who was stuffing chocolate in her face. I turned her around and placed a kiss on her lips. "Hi," I whispered.
"Hi," she replied curtly. "Got all nice and cozy with Elsa?"
"What?" I furrowed my brow. "No. She was just telling me how she and Hans are a couple now, and I was telling her how lucky I am to have you."
Her shoulders relaxed. "Oh. Okay. Care to dance, then?"
I laughed. "Were you jealous?"
"No!" she denied quickly, then grabbed my hands and swept me into the next slow dance.
With her head resting on my shoulder, fake snow falling from the ceiling, the Snow Ball didn't seem like a fail after all. And it didn't matter that Elsa was Snow Queen. Rapunzel would always be my princess.
She gave me a small, teasing smile before leaning in and placing a slow, soft, strawberry-flavored kiss on my lips. All that I cared about right then and there . . . was her.
So Is It Love? is officially over, though I am considering creating a sequel! Tell me this: if I created a sequel, in what time frame should it occur? High school? After high school? College? Other? And if I were to write said sequel, what perspective(s) should there be? I'm greedy for your feedback! :D Please review your suggestions for me! Thanks, and don't forget to snowflake!
