Harmony breathed a sigh of relief as she left the Great Hall, pushing open the doors to exit the castle. Finally, she had completed that excruciatingly slow Transfiguration exam, and all in all she felt that it had gone well enough. She was one of the last students to leave the hall, so Harmony was stuck trying to find her mates who had no doubt met up somewhere, probably under the tree by the glistening lake.
The sun was shining brightly down on all of them, and the prospect of the official end to the school year was overpowering - they only had one last exam to go, which was to be completed that afternoon after lunch. Harmony scanned the grounds which were peppered with bodies of students lounging about. Eventually, she spotted Liven's dark hair and walked over to her.
"Hey!" Liven smiled. "How did it go then?"
"It was hard," Harmony said, "but I think it went alright."
She glanced around the group as they all interjected their input on the exam. She spied Sirius from across the little circle and slipped behind their mates so go see him, so she didn't cut in front of their conversation.
"Hi," Sirius smiled as he watched her approach. "I didn't even see you this morning at breakfast. Liven said you slept in?"
"Yeah, all these late nights are catching up on me." Harmony let her shoulder rest against his as she stood beside him. He casually lifted an arm and draped it around her waist.
"So you think the exam went okay?" he asked, a hand running through his hair.
"Yeah, that long answer essay-type question killed me but other than that it was alright. How about you? You were studying like mad for this one."
"I'm feeling pretty good about it, I reckon." Sirius smiled. "I might actually have a chance at doing okay!"
Harmony laughed. "Oh please, Sirius, you pretend like you're not intelligent but we all know your marks are almost as good as Remus'."
"Well, I won't deny it." Sirius admitted truthfully.
Just then, Lily called out to Harmony. "Harms!"
"Yeah?" Harmony turned toward her beautiful red-haired friend. "What's cracking, Lils?"
"Would you mind taking a walk with me?" Lily asked, and she looked a little concerned.
"Um. Sure." Harmony turned to Sirius and they both had identical expressions of confusion on their faces. Harmony shrugged and leaned in to peck Sirius on the lips gently. She pulled away and muttered, "You know I'll tell you everything later."
He grinned, "I'll be waiting for the juicy deets!" Sirius laughed as Harmony pulled a face at him before bouncing off to go see Lily.
Once they were out of earshot, Lily cast her green eyes on Harmony and said, "I'm worried." the toe of her trainer kicked at the grass a little as they walked.
"About what?" Harmony replied, slowing down her pace to focus more on Lily.
"My sister is getting married in like a month." she sighed, and it sounded as though Lily had been waiting to get this off her chest.
"Are you scared?" Harmony asked, and as she studied Lily's face she noted how much the girl's sprinkling of light freckles on her cheekbones seemed more noticeable - probably due to her paler-than-usual complexion.
"Yeah. I mean looking back on the letter she originally sent…it was horrible. I don't want to go." Lily's eyes filled with tears, and Harmony stopped and pulled the little redhead in for a hug. She wrapped her arms around Lily's middle.
"It's your sister's wedding, Lils. We both know you have to go." Harmony said gently.
Lily took a deep breath and pulled back, but didn't resume walking. "Why should I go if she doesn't want me to go?"
"Because your parents want you there. And it will show Petunia how much you love her." Harmony reasoned, studying Lily's pretty face.
"Harmony, just think of how she's going to look at me though. She's going to be all gorgeous in her dress and high heels and she's just going to stare down at her nose at me…"
"Lily." Harmony said, and Lily looked her in the face. They were the same height so they were on the same level. "Don't get upset by me saying this, but we both know the only reason she doesn't like you is because she's so inhumanely jealous of you."
"Jealous because I'm a witch? By all means, she can fucking take my magical abilities if it means she'll look at me without disgust every once and a while-"
"Because you're a witch, because you're stunningly beautiful, because you're nice and kind to everyone, because you're funny and magnetic and everything that she aspires to be." Harmony said, her eyes wide with honesty. "So if her jealousy is holding you back from going to her wedding…then Lils, I don't know what to say other than the fact that it shouldn't."
Lily turned, looking out into the lake and considering what Harmony said for a long while. Finally, she sighed. "I think…I think I'll go. But I'm not doing it alone."
Harmony internally cheered, then was struck with a thought. "Lily…what if you ask James to go with you? Petunia would see how hot of a date you have, it would improve this newfound friendship between you and James, and honestly…the kid knows how to have a good time."
Lily looked at her, biting her lip. Unexpectedly, something flashed across her face and she said, "You know what, Harmony? I think I will."
Harmony grinned, "That's the spirit. And we can take a trip out to Hogsmeade or go into London soon to get you a killer gorgeous dress."
"Wait, though. Will you come too?"
"To the wedding? Lily, I wasn't even invited-"
"I'll let my parents know. They love you." Lily said, jumping a little.
"Lily, I don't know-"
"You're the one who just convinced me to go in the first place, please please please come Harmony? Bring Sirius and we'll double date."
"Did you just say date?" Harmony smirked.
"Yes!" Lily laughed. "I just said date!"
Harmony threw her head back. "Fine! But only because you referred to asking James as a date." Lily laughed too, then a thought dawned on Harmony. "Wait, when's the wedding?"
"Beginning of August." Lily said. "Like the sixth or something, I don't know."
"Okay, good. James and Sirius are gone for eighteen days at the start of the holidays. The Potters are taking them to Spain." Harmony said, linking their arms together and walking back to the group again.
"Oh, really? That's so cool! How lucky are they?!" Lily said, her voice lighter and happier than it was five minutes ago.
"I know, right?" Harmony agreed. "So wait, when are you going to ask James-"
"Fuck it. Right now." Lily broke off from Harmony and stormed boldly over to the group. She tapped James on the shoulder and he turned, surprised. Harmony froze and watched in amazement as the pair stepped back from their circle of their friends. Lily said something, the tiniest of blushes rising on her cheeks.
James looked stunned for a brief moment, before recovering quickly and nodding enthusiastically. Harmony saw him mouth, "Of course." They both sort of stood there for a moment smiling, until Lily said "Okay," and then they stood back in the circle.
Harmony bounded up to Sirius and said, "C'mon, Sirius." she grabbed his hand.
"Where are we going?" he asked, and Harmony glanced back at him.
"Far enough away so I can tell you what just went down." Harmony replied.
Sirius pulled open the massive doors to the castle and waited for Harmony to enter first. She walked through and found the entrance hall pretty much empty.
"What happened?" Sirius asked. "Why did Lily just talk to you? And what was with the whole James thing? Please tell me she asked him out finally."
"Okay. Sort of." Harmony said, leaning on the wall as Sirius stood in front of her. "So Lily wanted to talk to me about her sister's wedding and I convinced her not only to go, but to ask James to go with her. And he said yes."
Sirius grinned, moving closer to Harmony. "That's awesome! I'm so happy for them. James is going to be ecstatic tonight in the dorm."
"Also, I might have agreed on behalf of both of us to go." Harmony played with his tie and waited for his reaction.
"Haaarrmmmoonnnyyy." Sirius whined.
"Sirius, she practically begged me to. We're going. August sixth or something."
"But Petunia Evans, though." Sirius sighed, mock-pouting.
"But Lily and James, though."
"But Petunia Evans, though."
"But free food, though."
"But Petunia Evans, though."
"But me in a potentially short dress and heels, though."
Sirius stopped and looked at her. He heaved a sigh. "Fine. Fuck you." he added, as Harmony whooped in success.
"Thank you." she smiled, pulling him in by his tie to kiss him. She felt his bottom lip move on hers a little, and she grinned. After a couple more seconds, she pulled away but they stayed close to each other.
"Your kilt socks are uneven." he stated, eyes still closed.
"Am I supposed to be surprised?" Harmony laughed, "Something is always uneven on me."
They talked for a few more minutes until students started trickling in from outside and into the Great Hall for the last Hogwarts lunch of the school year, as the final exam was this afternoon and then the entire student body was to leave for King's Cross on trains the next morning. Harmony and Sirius eventually made their way in, too.
After the meal, the Great Hall was transformed into the exam hall again, and students went off in all directions to either the Great Hall or a spacious classroom to complete their final exam of the year.
"Good luck." Sirius said, kissing Harmony's nose as she laughed.
"Good luck, Pup. Don't cheat. Don't overthink. It's just DADA - common sense." Harmony replied, and they gave each other one more grin before splitting off and finding their designated seats. Harmony took a deep breath and watched the exam paper materialize in front of her. She exhaled, picked up her quill, and began - the promise of the long-awaited summer holidays looming tantalizingly close.
Sirius spied Harmony and ran over to her as soon as the brunette came through the massive double doors. "We're done!" he yelled, and her head turned as she followed the sound of his voice. Her shoulders were loose, her hair hanging down freely, and her eyes were bright.
"I know!" she replied, jogging over to him while cuffing her white dress shirt sleeves even more. Becca intercepted and crashed into her in an embrace, saying something about how long they've been waiting for summer. Harmony laughed loudly and Liven interjected something into the conversation, making all three of them smile in happiness.
Sirius had just reached the group when Liven yelled excitedly, "It's summer!"
Becca whooped, joining Harmony as she walked up to Sirius. "So it went well?" Sirius asked.
"Yeah!" Harmony replied. "For some reason that was the easiest yet. Barely any facts, it was just all common sense stuff like I thought it would be."
"I know, right? That was the perfect note to end exams off in." Sirius said, and they watched as the rest of the marauders and Lily trickled over, James still deep in conversation with her.
Sirius nudged Harmony. "Look at those two. Do you know how much I'll pay to see them snog at the wedding?"
Harmony laughed, eyes staring at Lily and James, who were now chuckling. "This day has been great. Wow."
"-no but like that question about the unforgivable curses was actually really hard…" Remus' voice spoke up, as he joined in on Becca and Liven's conversation. He wrapped his arm around Becca's waist absent-mindedly.
Jack bounded over to them as a huge group of celebrating fifth years passed by, excitedly chattering about how they finished their OWLs. "Hey!" Liven smiled. He leaned in close and whispered something in her ear, and she nodded before turning to Harmony and Sirius and whispering almost apologetically, "I'll see you guys for dinner."
Sirius snorted as Harmony nodded, rolling her eyes. "I have no idea how she's still fucking walking."
"I'm going to tell her you said that!" Sirius barked out a laugh.
"That doesn't scare me, I ask her on a daily basis and she always responds with some petty insult." Harmony replied, joining in on Sirius' laughter. "Hey, what time is it?"
"Three-thirty." Sirius responded, checking his watch that resided on his wrist next to the bracelet Harmony got him for his birthday.
"What do you wanna do?" she asked, wanting to leave the crowded entrance hall. Students were milling about everywhere and she wasn't sure how much longer the walls were going to hold in hundreds and hundreds of bodies.
"I kinda want to have tea." Sirius said. "Want to go get tea and food and drink it on the Astronomy Tower or something? Ask them." he nodded towards the rest of the group.
"Oi!" Harmony yelled, getting everyone's attention.
"You know I always underestimate how loud your voice can be based on your size." James commented, crossing his arms.
"Do you guys want to get tea and food from the kitchens and hang out on the Astronomy Tower for a while?"
They all looked at each other for a moment before Becca answered. "That actually sounds great, I'm in."
Everyone else chimed their versions of yes and pretty soon the big group of sixth (soon to be seventh!) years were making their way down to the kitchens, their echoing laughter blending in with the other one thousand students who were enjoying their newfound freedom - the stress of this hectic year finally off of everyone's shoulders.
"Guys." Becca's voice piped up. "Let's make a toast to this school year."
They were at the final Hogwarts feast, and the hall seemed to be three hundred times more crowded and loud. All four houses combined with the bursting volume of excitement and happiness made it seem like the hall was much fuller than usual. Red and gold tapestries hung from every corner of the ceiling because Gryffindor had pulled through, thanks to the Quidditch win, and won the house cup for the third year running - a feat that caused so much noise when announced that the Hogwarts ghosts wandered into the hall not three minutes after in hopes that someone would be joining the force of the Transparent and Lonely.
"Let's do it!" Liven laughed, holding her goblet up with a huge smile on her flushed cheeks. The food had been cleared away not long ago and everyone was just finishing up on the mountains of deserts.
"Who's going to say it?" Sirius asked.
"I vote Harmony." James said, which followed by a loud burp.
"Classy." Harmony snorted, almost dropping her goblet because her lack of co-ordination decided to strike again.
"Yeah, I vote Harmony too." Liven agreed.
"Okay, okay." Harmony glanced around the table at the nine individuals who made this year worth living. She lifted up her goblet and started, "Well cheers to us for making it through this year, first of all. Also cheers to us because of how close we've all become in the last ten months and I'm fully confident in saying you all are the best people I've ever met, and I know I'll ever meet. So thanks for making this year pretty great, and I know next year will be even better because, let's be real, we are the shit of this school."
"Yes!" James shouted, and they all smashed their cups in the middle, pumpkin juice going everywhere. It splashed so much that people were giving the group dirty looks as they wiped their shirts free of flying droplets - not that any of the excited sixth years noticed because they were laughing so loudly.
The laughter and happy conversation died down as Dumbledore stood at the podium. Silence fell around the hall in anticipation. He spread his arms wide and begun, a huge smile on his aging face.
"First off, let us give ourselves a round of applause for another successful year at Hogwarts!"
The hall erupted into screaming and people were banging their fists on the tables - especially James and Sirius. It was so loud that Lily covered her ears, still smiling. It quieted back down a moment later as Dumbledore raised his arms again.
"Next, I would like to acknowledge the staff seated alongside me, for without them, Hogwarts wouldn't be Hogwarts." another round of applause started and stopped a few minutes later. Dumbledore thanked a few more groups of people before moving on.
"I hope that our first years have had a good first year in the seven-year journey of Hogwarts, and likewise I hope that our seventh-years continue to excel in their path that leads them from the era of attending this school to the era of participating in the workforce. All the best to each and every one of you.
"I have been working as a professor and headmaster at this school for longer than I care to admit, and in the growing times of danger I would like to express how much I've learned about true loyalty and commitment." Dumbledore's facial expression turned serious, and everyone was silent as they hung onto every word. "I am not here to pretend that everyone in this room is supporting the same cause that I am. It would be foolish of me to treat you all like unobservant children, when select individuals probably have more knowledge of the happenings in this school than I do. I am here, however, to maintain this school, its teachings, and on a deeper level, to ensure that every student at least starts out with a right path. Whether you stay on that road is up to you.
"This summer, I advise you all to not only make lasting memories, but also to be cautious and aware of everyone and everything, for you never can be certain of who you surround yourself with. Now, to end on a lighter note - I hope that this last year at the school has taught you something worthwhile, and it is my wish that you demonstrate these teachings in your everyday life in one way or another. Go forth and enjoy your last night at Hogwarts. I am delighted to say that this year has come to a close, and I look froward to seeing you all next year, or in some cases, in the near future as you go off into the world of working. Goodnight and thank you, all of Hogwarts!"
Dumbledore finished, and everyone applauded loudly, standing up, whooping and hugging each other. Even most of the Slytherins were smiling and clapping. Most of them. Not all. The sea of students flooded towards the exit, and they all trickled up and away to their dorms to enjoy the last night at the school for two months.
When the members of Harmony's dorm room and the marauders made it back to the common room, they all collapsed on the comfy furniture, stomachs bursting. The fires were warm, the noise level in the room high, and the space was becoming more and more occupied by Gryffindors with every passing moment.
"I'm so full." James whined from his place on the floor. He was rolling around in discomfort.
"Shouldn't have gone for that extra helping of mashed potatoes." Sirius commented.
"Like you should be talking. How many chicken legs did you shove down your throat?"
"How many chicken legs did you shove down your throat?" Sirius asked, and as they both made to get up and start shoving each other around, Harmony reflexively grabbed the back of Sirius' t-shirt and made him sit back down again. He landed directly on her, making her groan.
"Get the fuck off. You weigh a ton." Harmony whined dramatically, and James snorted.
"Just for that, I'm staying right where I am." Sirius stated.
Not soon after, a conversation struck up about good memories from the school year, and Harmony eagerly listened in.
"Remember at the beginning of the year? When me, you and Harmony got wasted on like the first weekend of school?" Becca laughed, propping her ankles up on the side of the armchair that she was squeezed in with Remus.
Sirius threw his head back and yelled, "Ha! And then Harmony wandered in our dorm at two in the morning and made Remus dance the tango!"
Remus chuckled, "Good times. You almost kissed me, too."
Harmony hid her face, groaning inhumanely. "Don't remind me. My co-ordination is even worse when I'm drunk and I swear I was not trying to kiss you on the mouth! Just the cheek or the nose or something. But hey - remember when we were all locked in that broom cupboard because you guys had pranked some Slytherins and then the fireworks in my pockets exploded?"
"Oh my god, I almost forgot! That was early on in the year, too." James said, smiling. "We couldn't stop laughing."
"I know." Harmony grinned.
"Remember New Years?" James laughed.
"Actually, I don't." Becca commented. They all laughed in agreement.
"And then those two-" James pointed at pointed at Harmony and Sirius, "-went off and snogged under that tree by the water."
"Objection!" Harmony sat up, her finger in the air as Liven started cracking inappropriate jokes and going on about how she read somewhere that people are four times more horny when they're drunk. "He kissed me first. So. Not my fault."
"Oh, please. It was mutual." Sirius scoffed. "You wanted it." he lifted a leg up mock-seductively and started making high pitch squealing noises.
"Just stop." Harmony said, trying to contain her laughter unsuccessfully. "But how about these two at the party?" Harmony pointed at Remus and Becca.
Remus turned a little red then said, "Excuse-"
Harmony was about to retort, but James cut them off excitedly. "We were so badass this year, though! Remember all the Death Eater encounters?"
"When Harmony got tortured in the halls before Christmas-" Remus started.
"-then at James' on New Years-"
"-then when they came to Hogwarts-"
"-then when they attacked her family-"
"-and then in Hogsmeade and me and Harmony had to go to the Ministry-"
"-and they attacked Harmony's family again then, too, right? Not to mention all those attacks that weren't on you directly…"
"Hey, let's not forget about the whole brother situation." Harmony interjected, pointing between herself and Sirius. Then she said, "Wow. My life is fucked up. Was it actually that many times? Oh my god."
They were all silent for a second as they processed just how real Voldemort was. "That's crazy…" Becca said softly, while looking at Harmony.
"The prophecy did say she would play a pretty big part in this war." Remus said, ruffling his hair and sprawling his dress-pant clad legs out in front of him.
"Wholy shit. It's just kind of hitting me that I'm best friends with a girl who Voldemort has actually targeted." Liven said, laughing a little.
"But guys, let's be real. How am I supposed to 'be responsible for the many negative fates of massive amounts of Voldemort's army'?" Harmony asked, raising her eyebrows.
"Yeah, no offence, but you're basically just small with a loud voice and a knack to always make bad decisions…how are you supposed to beat out grown, two hundred pound men with extensive experience in the Dark Arts?" James asked, sizing Harmony up.
The group was roaring with laughter, and even Harmony cracked a grin. "My point exactly! Do you know how many hours I've been brooding over this? I honestly have no idea. But it seems like Voldy has stopped going after me directly for a little while, so I still have time to find out."
"The way James just described you…is so accurate…" Sirius was panting with laughter and Harmony swatted him on the arm.
After a little while, Alice stood up with Frank and said, "We're gonna go for a walk, anyone want to come?"
Becca and Remus looked at each other, and simultaneously decided, "Sure, we'll tag along. Anyone else?"
"Well, we all know those two won't be moving anytime soon. So, sure. I'll fifth wheel it." James stopped pointing at Harmony and Sirius and stood up instead.
"He's not wrong." Sirius agreed, still sitting on Harmony. She shoved him off and sat on him instead, finally letting her lungs function properly again.
"We're coming too." Liven decided, pulling Lily up by her arm. "We got you, James."
He looked a little relieved. "Always to the rescue, Liv."
They all exited the common room, leaving Harmony, Peter and Sirius on the couches. They all looked at each other for a moment.
"So, Peter. How's this girl doing? The one you've been sneaking off to snog all year?" Harmony started, settling back into the chair and preparing for a great conversation.
Harmony laid awake in her bed, watching the flames from the dim fireplace flicker across the ceiling as the room was filled with the light snores of her fellow dorm mates. She was trying to comprehend that this year was over. Done. Finished.
It was official. She had one year left at Hogwarts, and then she'd be done for good. The thought terrified her.
But summer's finally here, Harmony thought to herself, sighing and turning over to face the window. She had been waiting for this moment for ten months. This time the year before everything was so different. Every aspect of her life had completely shifted in a matter of three hundred and sixty-five days.
It really, really, really sucked that Harmony no longer lived down the street from Becca, like every other year. However, she knew that this wouldn't stop them from sneaking out to drink or just to have life chats at three in the morning, like they had always done. It would just take some apparation and lots convincing. She hoped the aurors guarding her house were cool enough to let her out. The difficulty would be so worth it in the end.
And now Harmony had Sirius. For once in her life, she had a genuine boyfriend who would come and stay at her house for days at a time during the holidays, contrary to the previous years when Harmony would avoid that situation completely, at all costs. Not that she'd ever had a boyfriend for as long or as or as meaningful as Sirius to begin with. In fact, Harmony was pretty sure she had never really introduced a boy to her parents before Sirius.
Thinking about Sirius, Harmony once again was reminded that he was going to be gone for eighteen days at the start of the summer, however, and she was trying her hardest to push this fact to the back of her mind. The adjustment from not being with Sirius twenty-four hours a day was going to hit her like Platform 9 3/4 at a minute after eleven. Honestly, she felt like crying whenever she thought too hard about it. Of course, he was going to be with her again in eighteen days, and of course they would write (occasionally because Spain). But. Eighteen days. Without Sirius. Without his smell or his hands or his hugs or his cute little laugh and face.
Why was she in her own dorm?
Harmony threw her covers aside and stood up. She tiptoed out of the room and down the stairs to the warm common room, which was completely deserted. The dim fireplaces cast flickering shadows across the stone walls decorated with scarlet hangings and paintings. Her bare feet padded lightly on the steps as she climbed the stairs in the familiar route to the marauder's dorm room, wrapping her arms around herself to keep warm.
It was silent, cool and dark inside the dormitory as she gently pushed the door open and closed again, her eyes adjusting to the lack of light. Harmony practically made a beeline for Sirius' bed, wanting nothing more than to just cozy up to his side for the last night she would have with him for a little while.
She yanked open the curtains not-so-quietly and found Sirius sprawled out across the mattress. His grey eyes opened wide and focused on Harmony, his eyebrows raising in a questioning manner. She watched as he pushed himself up so he was in a sitting position and lifted a toned arm, running his hand through his dark curls. It was like a shot from a movie. Oh god, here we go. Tears. Wow.
"Harmony? What's wrong?"
Harmony dropped her arms to her sides and looked around for an excuse as to why she felt like crying. "It's just-" her voice cracked a little, and she cleared her throat. She bit her lip painfully and glanced down at the big long-sleeved shirt she was wearing that she took from Sirius a couple weeks ago. "This shirt—this shirt doesn't smell like you."
"What?" he asked, moving closer to her so his feet rested on the floor. He tilted his jaw to the side in a questioning manner.
"It doesn't smell like you and I don't really like that." Harmony said pathetically, her chin wobbling a little. "Why do I have it? What's the use?" she reached down to the hem of the shirt and pulled it up, yanking it over her head. "I mean, this is a quality shirt but I basically only wanted it because it smelled like you and now it doesn't, so I won't be needing this anymore." she said, somewhat hysterically. Her hair was all over the place and her arms were still partially in the sleeves of the shirt. She was panting a little.
"Hey, hey." Sirius said, looking extremely concerned. "What the-"
"But you see," Harmony continued, glaring at the celling. "now I'm stuck without a shirt that smells like you because this one doesn't. And usually that would be okay because I would have the real you to substitute that but now I'm not going to have that because you're going to be gone." Harmony said, some tears leaking over. How true to her age. Crying over her boyfriend leaving on vacation. Wow, how tough.
Sirius froze for two seconds while he processed this, and then said cautiously, "You're upset because I'm going away?"
Harmony ripped the shirt off of her arms and wiped at her eyes furiously. "Maybe." she admitted, not looking at him.
"Harms." Sirius scooted closer and placed his hands on either side of Harmony's head. "Talk to me, here."
"I'm just going to miss you a lot." Harmony sniffed a little, wiping her eyes again. "I know that I'm being crazy because it's only eighteen days. I know. I have issues not crying in situations."
"It's okay." Sirius said, pulling her hair out of her blotchy face. He still looked deeply concerned as he used his palms to wipe the wetness off her cheeks, pulling her body in between his knees. "You're a seventeen year old girl and my girlfriend, crying is okay."
"I think I have a little separation anxiety." she laughed, feeling her eyes still leaking tears. She really hated crying, but she sure as hell did enough of it. Good god.
He laughed lightly, too, moving his hands down to her waist; thankfully they were warm. "Don't worry, I'm not sure how I'm going to deal with eighteen days without you either."
"Did I wake you up?" she asked, pulling her hair back behind her shoulders as she collected herself a little bit more. Sirius gazed in her big eyes and then let his line of sight wander down to her delicate shoulders and collarbones. There were still two dark spots that were rapidly fading; the remains of the hickeys he had given her at the party.
"Nah, I wasn't sleeping yet." Sirius confessed, smiling a little. "Harms, I feel bad, though."
"No!" Harmony said, smiling and trying to think about how horrible she must've looked at that moment because of tears and snot. "Seriously, I'm really stoked that you're going to fucking Spain, but I'm just being a baby. I feel better already now that I've blubbered."
Sirius snorted, then said, "I'm going to write you everyday, okay? Promise."
"Okay." she laughed, feeling suddenly freezing in nothing but a black sports bra and pyjama pants.
Sirius leaned in close to her face and asked quietly, as if someone was listening in on the conversation although the marauders were all sleeping, "Why did you take off your shirt?" he poked her stomach lightly and she sniffled unattractively and laughed.
"I don't know." Harmony said, swatting his outstretched finger away. "I need a kleenex or twelve."
"Yeah, you do." Sirius agreed, and he stood up and pulled Harmony towards the washroom silently, as to not wake any of the other sleeping boys.
He pushed open the door and yanked Harmony in after him, shutting it again. Harmony crossed her arms around her cold body as Sirius leaned beside the toilet and pulled some tissue off the roll.
"Thanks." Harmony said, blowing her nose as Sirius' warm fingers creeped their way around her hips. She let her body rest against his chest, her face buried in the soft black material of his long-sleeved t-shirt.
She sighed, and let her hands fold against their chests. After a minute, she spun in the embrace so her back rested against his chest and she studied their reflections in the mirror. Sirius' piercing eyes looked right back at her. "What are you thinking about?" he asked, sprawling a hand across her stomach.
"What are you thinking about?" she asked, raising an eyebrow and leaning forward slightly to toss her tissue in the bin.
"You." he replied.
She bit back a smile and answered his original question. "I'm thinking about the summer. And how you should come stay at mine for a couple days and I'll come stay at yours."
"That sounds like a quality plan." Sirius nodded in agreement, then he let his head settle on hers. "Feel better?"
"Yeah." she laughed. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be." Sirius said, kissing her head. "It's kind of cute."
"Nothing about this situation is cute." Harmony said.
"Well," he said, pulling a face. "I think we're pretty cute."
"We are pretty cute, I agree." Harmony contemplated this. Their eyes met in the mirror and they looked at each other for a couple long seconds. Suddenly, Harmony was being spun around, Sirius' lips colliding on hers.
Harmony was grabbing his shirt as his hands slid up her body to hold her face. They backed up, crashing into the counter behind them and knocking over a bottle of some product. A towel landed in the sink as Sirius attempted to pull Harmony closer, kissing her hard.
As soon as another bottle fell on the floor, Harmony moved so her back was against the wall and Sirius was pressed up against her, his lips moving down to her neck. She exhaled, and Sirius wrapped his entire arm around her middle to pull her closer, so only her upper back rested against the wall.
Harmony caught his lips and started kissing him again, losing herself in the boy in front of her. Her hands traveled down his chest and under his shirt, where they rested on his warm stomach and apparently this only fuelled Sirius further, as he grabbed her butt and flattened them both against the wall. Harmony got a glimpse of Sirius' smiling face and instinctively her features shifted to match his as they kept snogging.
Suddenly, the door opened behind them with a crash. Harmony and Sirius sprung apart so fast that Harmony elbowed the towel rack and sent three of them flying to the ground.
"Oh-god-" Remus said, shielding his eyes. "I didn't mean to interrupt but I really have to take a leak." his voice was rough with sleep and his eyes were squinting because of how bright the light was.
"Um." Harmony said, feeling her face heating up so much that she was sure it could melt a glacier. She was suddenly aware of her lack of shirt and she folded her arms around herself, not daring to glance at Sirius.
"We were, uh. We're just going to bed." Sirius muttered, and Harmony chanced a look at his face. The entire area around his mouth was bright red, and she cringed at how she must look.
"What the fuck you guys. Jesus." Remus groaned. "What time is it, anyway?"
"Um. Like two." Harmony said, and she gave Sirius a look that said, we need to leave.
"Okay," Sirius muttered, "We're just gonna go-"
Remus nodded, looking like he was torn between laughing and dying of embarrassment.
Harmony made a beeline for the door, Sirius behind her. The door shut and Harmony stopped, taking a deep breath and peering at Sirius through the darkness.
"Your face is really red." Sirius stated bluntly.
"Yeah, well yours is too, you little shithole." Harmony shot back. She looked at him and started to laugh, sparking him to laugh too. Pretty soon, they were desperately trying to shush each other as they ran back to Sirius' bed.
Harmony dove beneath the covers, hiding her face, and Sirius landed on top of her with a grunt. "Are we gonna talk about what just happened?" he said, his breath fanning on her neck.
"What's there to talk about?" Harmony's voice said, muffled from the blankets in her mouth.
"Moony walking in on us mauling each other in the bathroom." Sirius replied, rolling off of her.
"Well, when you put it like that-"
"Are you tired?" Sirius cut in, smiling as he felt her glare at him.
She turned on her back beside him and answered, "Not really."
"Want to go stargaze on the Astronomy Tower?" Sirius asked.
"Yes." she answered firmly, rolling off the bed and picking up her shirt from the floor. She felt Sirius watching her as she put it over her head and yanked it down her hips. "Stop looking at me."
"No." he replied. "I like looking at you."
"You like looking at me shirtless." Harmony corrected, cocking a hip out at him but grinning nonetheless.
"Actually, I like looking at you all the time but I also like looking at you shirtless because it's a part of you I don't see often." Sirius raised an eyebrow.
"Somehow you just justified your actions." Harmony smiled, poking his still-warm cheek.
"And like," Sirius said, his eyes wide. He reached out and grabbed her fingers. "it's not like in a sexual way…most of the time. I just like looking at you because you're beautiful."
"Oh my god, Sirius." Harmony said, smiling quite widely. "See, this is the reason we're always together at like two in the morning - because 2am is when all the cute shit happens." Harmony grabbed his jaw and left a kiss on his lips. "Thank you." she laughed, not bothering to hide her smile. She was going to miss the living shit out of this boy.
"All you have to do is tell me when and I swear I'll start spewing out all this stuff whenever you want to hear it." he stood up and separated a blanket from the rest of the mound on his mattress, wrapping it around his shoulders and holding the ends with his covered hands. He opened his arms to Harmony and she smiled at how half of his hair was sticking up adorably. "C'mon, pretty girl. Let's go break curfew and count constellations." he said.
She laughed freely and skipped to his side, holding him around the waist tightly as they shushed each other and giggled while they left the dorm, off to make the last memory of their sixth year at Hogwarts school.
