Hey Guys I'm back! Sorry for such a long break but between the end of last semester, the holidays, and the start of this semester (my last in college) I've been a little busy. But I'm back and here is a new chapter. Just putting this out there once again I do not own Twilight or Justified, I am just inspired by them. Enjoy!

When I came out from Bella's room I was met by Rose. "What the fuck was that Masen?" She harshly whispered at me, "I thought I said don't hurt her again."
"I didn't…or I didn't mean to." I had hurt her; she after all was sobbing the whole way home. But I didn't intentionally. I mean there I was trying to confront her as a friend but instead yelling at her and bringing up painful memories. "I found out where she worked tonight, Rose." At my words Rose's face softened. "My stupid friend Emmett convinced me to go to a strip club when I was explaining to him how I couldn't get Bella out of my head. I mean it wasn't the only option he gave me and it was the option I didn't think was an option until I somehow ended up there. And there she was on stage Rose. That girl that used to be too shy to wear bikinis is now up on stage dancing in nothing but a g-string. I mean I need to try to understand. And next thing you know we are both yelling at each other in the parking lot. I brought up Charlie…I didn't know Rose…I just didn't."
My body sinks onto the worn blue sofa in Bella's living room. I lean my head in my hands. I felt so tired now. I couldn't help but hope the sofa would just swallow me whole. I felt the sofa sink in letting me know Rose had joined me. "I know this must be hard for you," she started softly as she placed a hand on my back. "Living in a small town all your life, thinking that nothing ever changed here and feeling like time was always standing still. The thing is, all of our parents were right, we only felt that way because we were kids. But you left Edward, got used to a fast pace life quick and never got to see that life still moves along here. You came back here thinking it would all be the same because that's what it always seemed it would be when we were kids. But time does move here. People still live and die here because life is still moving."
I nodded. She was right. I did come back here with the same mindset that I left with. I mean I guess I thought I would come back to the same people in the same town and it could just pick up where we left off because I couldn't imagine that much could change here. But it did. So much had changed.
"The job thing was a shock to all of us too," Rose stated breaking the silence. "We all just thought if we loaned her money she wouldn't have to go there. But we learned quickly…or re-learned since we should have known by now that Bella is a proud and stubborn person. She wants to do this on her own. She wants to prove that she is a good mother, who can support her child on her own. I think some of that stems from feeling guilty for ever putting Carlie in the situation with Jacob. Of course she lets us help her at times but she also feels she needs that independence of making her own money. Of course the job sucks but it's what she could get and she makes enough money to provide everything her daughter needs. I'm not going to stop her from doing what she has to do. I've tried to offer her a place as secretary in my shop but she won't take it. Doesn't want strain on our friendship. Her job now may suck but it's a job that gives her the most time with Carlie during the day. I think she's a little sad that this summer is the last time she has before Carlie starts school. She's never been without that girl for long."
I was about to respond to Rose when the most blood curdling scream I had ever heard echoed through the house from Bella's room. I quickly was on my feet and running the short distance from the living room to Bella's. I found her on her bed thrashing around. I could tell she was still asleep though. I went to her side and grasped her hand hoping it would help some. She began to stop thrashing and the screaming died down some but she was still obviously in distress. What was wrong? Why was she screaming?
"Well this seems to be the first in a long time." I turned to find Rose standing in the door way.
"What do you mean?" I questioned franticly. "Are you saying this has happened before?"
Rose nodded. "Back when we she lived with me in the apartment I would wake up to her screaming just about every night. At first it scared the shit out of me. I remember the first night it happened I thought someone was murdering her or something. I ran in with a base ball bat. But no one was there, she was just laying and thrashing on the bed. I was so afraid to wake her. I did just what you did and talked to her softly until she fell asleep. She always felt bad that she was waking me up. She begged me to just ignore her. I couldn't though. Some nights, after she calmed down some, I would just climb into bed with her and sleep there. She seemed to settle down quicker and the chances of her starting back up again where slim to done. Not to mention I could get some sleep. "
Rose moved towards the bed and sat on the edge of it, petting Bella's hair softly before turning back towards me. "The screaming was less frequent once she found out she was pregnant and stopped all together once Carlie was born. Before all the abuse happened or at least before we knew anything was up I questioned Jake about it. If she was still screaming and he said he never heard her do anything other then breath when she slept. I think her subconscious stopped her from doing it once she had a baby in the house. I guess one screaming person is more than enough."
"But what brought it on in the first place and why all of a sudden has it started back up?"
"I have my theories…" Rose started before she was cut off.
Ed…don't leave…I miss you…" Bella murmured in her sleep. I looked at Bella as she mumbled this a few times. She looked so sad. I watched a tear escape from her closed lid and begin to make its way down her check. I lightly wiped it away with my thumb.
"And there is my theory for you," Rose spoke.
I broke my gaze from Bella and looked at Rose with wide eyes. "Are you saying this started because I left?"
"Well it started soon after you left. And after every screaming fit she had she would murmur your name and begged you to stay before she would finally fall back to a quiet sleep." Rose explained to me.
"So I caused this to happen to her again." It wasn't a question. I knew I had to do with a part of it. Just then the door to Bella's room creaked and in came a worried Carlie clutching a blue blanket and a stuffed pig.
"I-Is mommy okay…" she whispered her eyes welling up with tears.
Rose rushed over to Carlie and lifted her up. "Mommy is fine; she just had a bad dream."
"Is that why Mr. Edward is here?"
I looked up at the small child with the best smile I could muster. "Yep little one, I'm the dream police."
"Come one Carlie lets get you back to bed," Rose smiled softly. Carlie didn't seem to be having it, despite how tired she looked. She wiggled in Rose's arms until Rose had no other choice but to let her down. She then slowly walked to the bed.
First she lifted her mothers hand up and placed a kiss in her Bella's palm before folding it up nicely. She then looked me in the eye. Since I had still been kneeling next to the bed Carlie was basically eye to eye with me. "Thank you Mr. Edward."
"For what little one," I asked in shock.
"For being a brave Marshal and Mommy's Dream Police," and with that she kissed me on the cheek and walked back over to Rose. Rose took the little girl's hand and ushered her out of the room.
I didn't stay much long after Carlie was put back to bed. Rose told me she would spend the night just incase Bella had another attack, which made me feel better about leaving. I made my way out into the cool summer night. The walk home didn't help clear my thoughts.
