Yay! I'm back. Here's another update for y'all. School's about to start up again so I thought I'd be nice and post another update before I lose all time to. I love y'all that much.
Here's chapter 6 for y'all.
The next few weeks passed awkwardly at first. Harry tried to avoid any physical contact with Anubis and didn't have any conversations that went deeper than 'just friends'. They didn't talk about the amulet or what was going to happen when Harry went back to school. Anubis hung out with the Weasleys like they were a second family to him. Anubis enjoyed the game of quidditch that they played in the backyard even though Harry had to explain it to him three times before they could begin.
Fred and George still teased him about Anubis but he didn't let it bother him anymore. Hermione kept looking at him and Anubis whenever they would talk and give Harry a knowing glance (which of course he ignored. There was no way he had a crush on Anubis). Ginny kept glaring at Anubis for some reason when she thought Harry wasn't looking. Mr and Mrs Weasley acted like he was the long lost son they never had.
Thank the gods Ron was the only one that acted normal. He didn't treat Harry or Anubis any differently than he had back in Egypt. Mostly the four of them hung out in Ron's room all day for the remainder of the summer.
One week before returning to Hogwarts they went to Diagon Alley to get their school books. Harry and Anubis broke away from the group shortly after leaving Gringotts. Harry took him to the ice cream shop and bought them both ice cream cones. They sat outside and ate their treats while watching all the people do their before-school shopping. Harry felt left out. He wouldn't be returning to Hogwarts again. It was bitter-sweet. He didn't know if he wanted to return to Hogwarts when he knew that Dumbledore wouldn't be there. He doubted that it'd be the same.
"Harry, are you okay?" Anubis asked, breaking him out of his revere.
Harry turned to look at the handsome god. "Yeah. I'm just fine. It feels a little weird though to see all these people shop for their school supplies and know that I won't be returning with them."
"Yes. I can see where that would cause you to become silent." Anubis bit into his cone and licked at the ice cream that framed his lips.
Harry couldn't stop staring at the beautiful creature across from him. Suddenly he was filled with a strange longing. Again his heart decided to act up and beat erratically inside of his chest. He could feel the heat rising in his cheeks. He quickly looked back down at the ice cream cone that was melting in his hand. He'd lost his appetite for it and decided to throw it away in the trash bin near their table.
"Come Harry. We need to distract you. You're no fun to be around when you go all silent like this." Anubis stood and held out his hand for Harry.
Harry took it and stood up. "What do you suggest we do then?"
"I don't care, just something that will make you happy again. I don't like seeing you mope about."
"I was moping?"
Anubis nodded. "Very much so." He looked around at the shops near them. "Is there any place fun around here?"
"Um, not really, no." Harry hadn't noticed that they were still holding hands. He didn't want to let go of Anubis's though, it felt too good, too right.
"Okay, then let's just walk around." Anubis gently tugged on their connected hands and lead Harry through the streets of Diagon Alley. They went into a few shops and browsed for nothing in particular but mostly they just wandered around hand-in-hand. It felt too right for Harry to even bother letting go of Anubis's hand. He ignored everyone's stares as the Boy Who Lived wandered around the cobble-stoned streets of Diagon Alley hand-in-hand with an Egyptian boy.
They eventually found themselves near Ollivander's where they watched all the new witches and wizards find wands of their own.
"Why do they go through this ceremony of sorts when getting a wand?" Anubis asked from beside him.
"The wand chooses the wizard," he said, quoting what Mr Ollivander had said to him the day he got his wand.
"How can a piece of wood choose who its master shall be?"
Harry laughed. "I have no idea. That's what Mr Ollivander told me when I got my wand. He said that you won't get as good results from another person's wand than yours."
"Hmm, that's bizarre."
"Not really. It made sense when he said it. Do the magicians have wands?"
"Yes, but not as you'd expect them to be. They're made from ivory I believe and they're curved like that of a boomerang. They have hieroglyphics carved into them and that gives them their power. What gives your wands power?"
"In the core of the wand there's a part of a magical beast: unicorn tail, phoenix feathers, and dragon heartstrings."
Anubis choked back a laugh. "Unicorns?"
"Yes, unicorns. I've seen some. They're quite magnificent."
"I can say that I've never seen one before."
"It's okay, they're rather reclusive."
"What's in yours?" Anubis asked out of the blue.
"I'm sorry?"
"What is your wand's core?"
"Oh, um, phoenix feather."
Harry watched Anubis watch the small children run out of the wand shop holding their wand boxes in the air as if it was a precious archaeological find. "You're missing school this year," it wasn't said as a question.
"Yes. It's alright though, I don't need this last year. I'm seventeen so I can legally do magic outside of school."
"What about your career goals though?"
"What about them?"
"Don't you need to further your education to reach them?"
"Maybe. I just want to be an Auror, so I think if anything I'd have to further my knowledge in potions, but I suck at potions."
"Harry you're giving up so much for that stupid amulet. You need to go to school, finish your education, and get that dream job of yours."
Harry looked at Anubis confused as to what brought all this about. "Anubis, I don't need to. I'm fine." I want to spend as much time as possible with you and that amulet is the only thing that's keeping you here. I have to keep you here with me.
Harry hadn't realised just how much he craved the god's presence in his life. He squeezed Anubis's hand gently. Anubis didn't look happy with his answer. "You only get one chance at life Harry and you're going to throw it away for a chunk of gold and diamonds?"
"No, I'm not throwing anything away. I'm still only seventeen, my life has barely begun. Plus, I've been through enough crap that I just want to relax and have fun for once in my life."
Anubis shot him a look. "Harry you can't relax until what's-his-face is gone. You and I both know that."
"I still don't understand how you know about the war against Voldemort. It seems, I don't know, odd to me."
"I am a god. It's my job to know what's going on in the world so that I can make fair judgements and decisions. I'll admit that, yes, I have sometimes let me emotions rule my actions every now and then, but it's not something that I practice regularly."
His eyes showed thousands of years of knowledge and wisdom. They reminded Harry of Dumbledore's only they didn't have the same twinkle. He was suddenly filled with the desire to do something he'd never even thought of before. He wanted to kiss Anubis.
He extracted his hand from Anubis's and turned away from the deity. "Come on, they should be done shopping and will be leaving soon." He walked down the street knowing that Anubis would follow. He needed to focus on what the heck was happening to him and his emotions.
Okay, this was kinda a filler chapter, but good stuffs is gonna come soon. Harry's trying to figure stuff out with their co-mingling worlds and life is just confusing for him at the moment. The next chapter will be better, trust me. Review please! I love y'all.
