Chapter 17
Disclaimer: I don't own!
A/N: It's been so long that I literally have forgotten what is happening in this story. Nevertheless, every single time I read it, I fall in love with this story again. I told you guys, I'll finish this story soon, a couple of chapters at most. So I urge you to stay with me till the end, I promise you won't be disappointed.
SURPRISE: This is a main chapter.
Percy Jackson POV
"So you just barge into Annabeth, wherever she is, and ask her for the plan?" asked Thalia.
I gave her a look. "What else, am I supposed to give her a chocolate sundae, and tell her she is under orders... what the hell am I saying? Do I even make sense?"
Turning to Nico, Thalia says, "Our little brother is going nuts, as foretold, though quite prematurely.*sniff*"
Nico snickered as I glared. "This is serious, Thals." I said angrily.
Thalia gave me a look. And at that time I understood the true meaning of family. Family stands by you. Family makes you feel at home.
I tried to hide the warm smile that involuntarily came onto my stupid phizog. Nico gave us a complementary pat on the back.
"Right. To Annabeth it is."
_asdfghjkl_
"May I come in Ma'am?"
Mrs. Kerr gave me dirty look. "Yes?"
"We need Annabeth."
"Mr. Jackson, I suggest that you wait until the end of the period. Ms. Chase is busy filling her test paper which she missed last week."
"Excuse me, Ma'am, but I have completed it. Can I go now?"
"Mr. Jackson, do you have a note to take Ms. Jack- I mean Ms. Chase away?"
I guess I blushed a bit at her apparently innocent slip-up. I entered the class room in a professional manner. "Listen Miss, I am here to take Annabeth and I don't need your permission," I said in an undertone. I didn't mean to be that harsh but Mrs. Kerr had a slightly deranged look about her after I said that. Oh well...
I gestured to Annabeth to follow me.
She quickly slid her books back in her bag and skipped towards us. "Where are you taking me? To the ice-creams'? ''Cause I sure could do with one of those deliciously...mmm..."
I looked nervously at my cousins. "Annabeth, we have a slightly more pressing situation."
Annabeth's stare turned cold.
-asdfghjkl-
Annabeth, sitting on the sofa, pouted her lips. "Listen Percy, all I know is that Kronos is after me for some pathetic, low-life reason, maybe even petty."
"Petty enough to be kidnapped for?" I questioned her. Thalia and Nico had decided to just watch from the sidelines as they seemed to be only ones out of it( thankfully) and didn't fully comprehend the situation.
Annabeth glared at me.
"I really don't know Perce. And why do you care? You are just some high-strung singer. For god's sake, the hardest thing you have done is figuring out lyrics and tuning. You don't know what's happening here. You are just a singer singing la la la."
Both my idiotic cousins tsked at that. "Hit the nail on the wall!" supplied Thalia.
Nico hit her on her head, "I don't think that's correct."
As for myself, I felt like a knife had been pierced at my heart after getting my Achilles heel.
But after comments like this, my FBI agent nature turns on automatically.
I stood up and leaned forward to grab her jaw with sudden furiousness. "Now Ms. Chase you'll tell what exactly do you know about Kronos."
And the look on her face. Horrible. Horrible and terrified.
I looked around to see my cousins mysteriously gone. Instantly my resolve diminished and I fell on my knees. I took her hand in both of mine and said, trying to be soft, "Annabeth, I am sorry, I didn't mean it." But the way her hand itched to be extracted from mine; that broke my heart.
"There's something about my-my mo-mother. She is a-an Ol- Olympian and Kronos needs information on the staff timings. There's this thing on this date, so all the Olympians, well-known business men and few others would attend the ceremony right here in the auditorium. So, Kronos wants to do something to th- them," Annabeth trembled while she said that, but me, me being the ignorant bast- nope – boy, me being the ignorant boy let it slide. The news was informative. Too much so, there was the date, the victims and most probably the motive (which would probably follow). This was what I had needed, for so long, and in my happiness I kissed Annabeth's cheek, still oblivious, and then kissed her lip, then hugged her by the waist, lifted her up and spun her around. Giving her a second kiss on the cheek I told her, "Annabeth, you are awesome."
Without waiting to see her reaction, I turned out of the medical room and right into my snickering strangers whom I unfortunately shared my blood with (not).
Later that day : 2.00 p.m.
"Man, how does she know all this."
"Better be glad Nico. Otherwise we would be puny dead," remarked my cousin Thalia.
I grinned. But then I thought back to his cousins. How did she know all this? She had been kidnapped, yes. But wasn't Kronos smarter than that. Or was she in any way involved. No Percy, she's Annabeth, his little innocent- well...almost- girl. But then again, you left her for two years; and two years is a long time.
I stuffed my things inside my satchel and excused myself. I had something to discuss with Ms. Chase.
I searched my bag and sure enough brought out her schedule. English. Shit. Paul was there. Nevertheless, I stayed strong.
"What are you doing here Percy?" asked my step-father.
"I need Annabeth," most of the class snickered at that and Paul looked at me incredulously.
"Is something the matter? Do you have a note?"
Stay calm Percy, stay calm.
"No sir."
"Then I am sorry, but I can't allow her to go with you."
"No Paul. The Principal wants to see her."
"But I haven't even done anything," protested Annabeth.
Paul looked at her incredulously. "You really don't want to bunk class?"
"With Per-sorry- Principal? Never in a million years."
Trust me when I say that hurt. I felt guilty.
Paul looked between us, trying to figure out what went wrong.
I barged into the class and took her wrist in one and her bag in the other. Then I dragged her outside. She screamed.
Paul protested," Mr. Jackson, you will leave Annabeth right here. You cannot harass my student, Mr Jackson."
I gave him a murderous glare. Step- father or not, I have a duty to do.
I really didn't like doing this to her, making my best friend afraid of me, but I had no choice. This thing had to be over and done with. It had stretched way too long.
I glared at that boy who laughed.
I led Annabeth to a empty corridor. She followed me in silence, miserably. That was a first and I didn't like it.
"Annabeth," I said cautiously. She jerked her hand away from me. I decided to come straight to the point.
"How did you come to know all this?"
"Why do you care to know this."
"It's my job."
"Ha. Yeah as if. Listen Perce, this is none of your damn business."
"None of my damn business, none of my... You have no idea..," I slapped a hand on to my forehead.
"Yes Percy. This doesn't concern you. This is my problem and I will find the solution. You don't know anything so don't act as if you do."
I punched a hole in the locker behind her. I presses her hard against it.
"Listen, pretty girl. I want to know how and you'll tell me. Because I promise you Annabeth, I promise you that I'll have the information by hook or by crook."
I could feel her breathing hitch.
"Where did you be- become this monster Percy? Where?" She pushed me off her. It hurt. Yeah he never knew what I went through, did she?
She never noticed the way I was tortured by my ex- step father, never noticed the way I was strained by the Olympians, never knew that I had to succumb under their pressure and allow them to do anything me. She never noticed that singing, my passion, had now become my cover, she never notice the way my eyes clouded over as my friends and foes, strangers and familiar people died right in front of my eyes. She never noticed me breaking.
I rattled her shoulders, "Don't act smart. I need answers."
Her voice shook and rose, "I hate you Percy Jackson. You told me you'd never hurt me and now look where I am. No Percy Jackson, we are through. I am done knowing you, that is, if I ever did. I hate you and the air you breathe. I wish you die. Even better, I wish I die. I hate you Percy Jackson. I never ever want to see your bloody fuc*ing hot face in front of me." She slapped me hard and turned away.
And in my anger I shouted back at her, "Yes. Run away Annabeth Chase. Don't you ever, ever come crawling back to me. Die if you so wish. See if I care!"
In a matter of hours or less, our friendship had broken.
I never noticed her tears.
She never noticed mine.
