Chapter 2
A Rude Awakening
Finally with Nuada's last letter in her firm grip Nuala decided to go find Abe. She found him in the laboratory. Unfortunately he wasn't in a good mood. He had been up half the night correcting Nuala's mistakes. She came in with a cheerful voice and let Abe know that everything would be fine. Abe thinking that she was referring to the "work", they were doing together. He became irate, "no Nuala it is not going to be alright! I wanted to spare you this but there are too many mistakes here." Nuala came over slowly and laid the letter on the table next to him and said, "no I was referring to our impending marriage! Nuada has agreed to give his consent is it not wonderful!" Abe slowly turned toward her and said to her, "Nuala when did you get the impression I wanted to get married? What I want is for us to live together I can't possibly think about marriage right now. I am sorry if I led you on." Nuala was in shock, "did you not say you love me? Did you not want me to bear children for you?" They made love and yes he did say those things to her. She was in total shock at first he did not answer. Then all he said to her was, "I need to get a cup of coffee," and abruptly left the room.
