CHAPTER ONE

~ Pan ~

I'd like to welcome you, my dear reader, to my little personal piece of Hell on Earth. Oh, forgive me, I have forgotten to introduce myself; where are my manners? My name is Pan Son; a normal human in this messed up and hidden reality. I was found wandering the streets of Southern Europe a few years into some war which I could remember vaguely. Every time that I have tried to think of my past, my head feels like it is about to split wide open and my brain would explode if it did. Well, enough about my at the moment, let's get started with a story of hidden truths and endless fragile love.

We start our journey just outside the wonderful little town of Ginger Town on the advancing world of Earth about a mile and a half from any main roads. There settled deep in the woods was a thirteen acre property with a newly refurbished pale manor with the borders surrounded by a fifteen foot stone wall with a large titanium gate. The strange thing is that this place had been left to me by a couple that I have no memory of. My day, as you might as well know, never goes as well as I had planned it because I have two insane women who had traced me down and moved into the manor with me saying that they were needing just as much protection as I did. So, as confused as I had been, for about two years, six months, one week, and three days, all I have been to them is their personal slave, to cook and clean whenever I am not off somewhere on the property practicing what little marshal arts that I could remember.

"Stupid pampered bitches," I muttered under my breath as gravel crunched under the heels of my boots as I walked along the dirt path beyond the border, "You think that they would at least give me some peace even though they were supposed to be dead almost a millennia ago."

Even with the thirteen acres of ground, a silver arrow whizzed past my head barely missed my ear by mere millimeters and hit a scrawny red creature that had been concealed in the leafless bushes behind me. Panic shot straight into my veins and racing heart as I looked up on the top of the wall to see the wild woman who had made the fantastic shot before she dropped out of sight. With it caught in my throat, I turned to look in the direction of a victory cheer and then it turned into yelling.

"Pan, you arrogant little drudge, get your petite ass inside the property line and on this porch this instant or so help me, I will have her shoot you as well," The unmistakable voice of Videl Satan rang like a sweet bell full of anger.

Sighing heavily, I began a slow jog up to the paved path that was barely hidden by the surroundings this time of the year and pushed the gate open enough for me to slip through before locking it behind me. Regretting the choices that I have made already for their "safety", I felt the barrier of Bra's magic mold around my body like a warm cocoon before tearing as I continued my way toward the house. Walking up the path through six acres and onto the newly stained cherry wood steps, I tried to keep my temper in check as she approached me with her anger physically rippling off her.

"What the hell were you thinking; walking outside the barrier," She grabbed my arm and slammed my already sore body into the light gold paneling, "Can you be anymore careless? Honestly, what the fuck were you thinking?"

Keep your temper in check, I thought over and over again until she hit me in the stomach and felt my concentration snap as she aimed another punch at my head. On instinct, I grabbed her arm and spun her around with her arm pulled tightly up her back. My blood began to boil as I pressed her face into the limestone pillar.

"Why should it matter where I went? I needed to escape from you before I lost my sanity. Is there really going to be a problem over me just walking down to the highway and back? For one thing, I let you live in my house and care for you two every second while I am awake," I hissed and tightened my hold as I could hear Bra walking up to the side of the porch.

Videl turned her head to look at me with hatred burning in her black eyes but the emotions suddenly changed to fear and confusion before she shrieked, "Let me go! Bra, make her let me go!"

The black mood suddenly stopped at the mention of the blue-haired woman and confusion settled in as I turned to catch a glimpse of myself in the window to see my eyes a teal color before fading back to ebony. I could not tell how pale I had become but I dashed up the stairs and locked myself into my study across from my bedroom. Pacing in front of the desk, I tried to calm my anger before deciding to figure out why Videl had backed down so quickly and why my eyes had changed color. Many times, I had passed my desk and I ignored the neatly wrapped package that sat right in the very center. Taking a deep breath, I looked out the window to see the sun beginning to set over the mountains and figured that I should light the fire place and turn on a few lamps around the room before taking a seat. I was surprised to see that it was set directly in the center of the mat and the instant that I picked it up gingerly, the familiar scent of roses and cinnamon filled my noses. Sitting back in the leather swivel chair, a small olive green envelope fell into my lap from the bottom of the package where the twine barely held it in place. My entire body tingled with anticipation as my fingers opened and withdrew a soft type of paper. On top of the folded sheet, elegant handwriting carefully etched my name. Inside, the handwriting continued into a short letter that made me twice as curious about the package.

"'My darling Pan, you may not have any memory of who am I and what I am to you but I have been keeping a watchful and curious eye on you for a very, very, long time. Right now, I can feel your confusion and curiousity about current and certain events that have been happening around the safe haven that has been given to you by birth right. I know that you do know understand them and they have no logical explanation in the human realm. The gift that I have left for you shall help you out, I pray. But if you do have questions, a close friend from your past is about to come into play. Farewell for now, my child."'

Great, now I am just as confused as I am curious about everything… Peeling the wrapping off, I caught a glimpse of a corner with a shimmering red cover. Pulling the rest of the paper off, my fingers shook so much that I nearly dropped it. Setting on the desk, I admired the gold trimming that encased the edged and swirled into designs near the lettering on the front and the lock. I could not believe what I was reading when I finally focused on the title: PAN SON-BRIEFS. Who is or was this person and why is my name on this? Flipping the book over to where it was fastened, my heart sank to the pit of my stomach as I saw that was there. There, gleaming in the light of the fire, sat a five number combination lock. Placing the book on the corner of the desk, I let my head fell on the surface and groan, "For someone who had been watching over me and left me this book, you'd think they would give the code."

Turning my head to the side, I stared at the book and noticed that a small piece of paper was sticking out oddly. Sitting up slightly, I pulled it closer to me and pulled it out to see five digits scribbled on it: 41361. Grabbing the book, I quickly turned the dials and pulled it open, more like tried to.

"You got to be kidding me," I felt so frustrated that I threw it at the wall and slumped my body back into the chair so quick that it almost caused it to tip backward onto the floor, "What good is giving me a code that will not open this book?"

Spending the next ten minutes glaring daggers into the ceiling, heavy sighs escaped my pursed lips before a series of frantic knocks erupted on the front door. As normal, I could hear the two sitting in the back room muttering how they weren't going to answer it for the everlasting life of theirs. Stumbling down the stairs, I tried to fix my hair before I pulled the door open to see a young lavender haired man standing there with the look of pure panic covering his features before finally looking at me.

"Oh my goddess," He muttered and for the third time today, my heart had found its way back into my throat, "Hello, Pan, it's been a long time since we saw each other. Um, can the three of us come in? A storm is starting to brew."

"Yeah, woman, let us in for Kami's sake," A growl came from somewhere behind him.
