Chapter 8
A Brand New Day
The morning had come and Nuala had felt her heart saddened. Her Brother's anger was justified she had given away one of Bethmoora's most valued treasures. If perhaps by some miracle she was chosen as Queen, there would only be momentary joy, wearing her Mother's crown would have made her feel close to her. She knew that she would have been proud of her. In all of the Ages of the Unseen Realm there had never been an Elven Queen.
She readied herself for the day, she knew that Nuada would come to begin her training. She put away her street clothes and wore the only dressing gown she had left. It was a rich red in colour, trimmed in gold. She was always a vision of loveliness when she wore it. When her Brother arrived he looked at the Gown. He sensed what she did not want to tell him. Nuada fumed inside, but he just turned to her and said, "I will petition the Council for the rest of your belongings, they should be here within the next few days." Nuala replied, "I am grateful Brother, I know how I have upset you, you need not trouble yourself further".
At first he said nothing to her, and then he said to her softly, "It is no bother Nuala, Yes I say what I feel when I am angered. I hurt inside I will not lie to you. I have watched and stood by while my Sister has been treated badly, by the system she believed in. Her heart broken by the One who promised to love and protect her. Your kind and loving spirit, I am afraid has made you a victim. Not able to see the wolf among the sheep. "
Nuala recognized the tenderness in her Brother's voice,so long absent.
He continued "The Mortals have a saying that is so true if you think about it, they say that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions."
Nuala mused on what her Brother had said, she then replied "Nuada, I feel foolish for what I have let happen."
He reached for Nuala's hand and held it close to his own heart and said, "My Lady so ends the day. And your First Lesson. Please remember it well."
