Chapter Twelve: Forgetting
DICLAIMER: I do not own Harry Potter or Vampire Diaries!
SHOUTOUTS/NOTES: The book I mention below does NOT belong to me either. It's just my favorite book and I couldn't think of anything else.
It was that night Robbie decided to make an appearance.
June sat on her bed, reading If I Stay by Gayle Forman. It was one of her favorite muggle books, although after the ball and everything that happened, God it was hard to concentrate. She read the words on the page, but she didn't feel them and it was like she was just breezing over the pages. Usually when she read, all kinds of images came to life in her mind and painted vivid portraits of settings and characters. Now, though, with all the dancing she did and reliving even just a little bit of the war when she told her family about it...June was drained physically and mentally.
Finally she set the book down on her bedside table, giving up on trying to read the sad tale when she felt like she was living a much sadder one. This wasn't true, of course, because June was not making a horrifyingly important decision between life and death. No, she was living in a huge mansion, sitting in a warm bed, and had more family than she could have ever imagined. Honestly, it was just the fact that thinking about the people she lost could turn even the most fluffy beds as hard as concrete.
So she sat there, feeling alone, surrounded by warmth but still cold in the empty room. June supposed she should decorate it soon, for although the room was large and spacious, it had nothing personal in it except bags full of clothes in the corner from shopping trips with Rebekah. Honestly, June had just been too lazy to open the closet and hang everything up. She supposed she would one day, place the whole mountain of clothes on hangers and put her shoes in a line, but it was such a tedious task that June never felt like starting it.
The light, warm brown walls and light beige carpet complemented each other, and there was an fancy oak desk on one side of the wall near a window. She could work at the desk without the lights on even, because during the day the window would bring enough light in for her 'super' eyes to see. The window had white curtains that matched the bed spread and pillow cases, although June would be getting new ones. If she was honest, it was because they reminded her too much of infirmary back in school where everything was white. Maybe purple or green would be pretty, June would decide later on.
Thinking about room decorations had taken her mind off things for a short while and, even though her chest still felt heavy and thoughts still weighed her mind down, she was going to try reading again. Contrary to popular belief, the activity didn't bore her like some, ahem Hermione, seemed to believe. If the book wasn't eight inches long and boring as hell, June could actually enjoy sitting down and reading a few hours.
Then, all of a sudden, a soft thump reached her ears. She looked over to the window, startled. What the hell was that? There it was again, thump. The noise was followed by several more and finally June hopped off her bed to go inspect. Approaching the window warily, June quickly pulled aside the curtains and opened the window in one motion. She was about to look down when, all of a sudden, a rock came flying towards her face. Now, I would like to say that June pulled some awesome ninja move and caught the rock in midair, but she was still new to the whole 'Hybrid' thing. So she didn't.
And the rock hit her right between her eyes.
Cursing rather loudly and rubbing her nose, June glared out the window. Down below was a very much grinning, but kinda sheepish looking, Robbie. He made an up motion with his hand, asking her silently if she would allow him to climb in her window. The window that was probably over twelve feet off the ground. Scowling, and still rather pissed at the whole rock thing, June shook her heard sharply and got ready to close the window.
"Please?" He whispered quietly, knowing she could hear
Looking at the puppy dog eyes, she crumbled. Finally she nodded, the rolled her eyes at his mini victory dance across her lawn, and then June proceeded to watch him try and scale the side of the house to even get close to her window. The amount of times he fell on his ass was more than enough to make June forget the rock thing as she tried to choke back laughter, watching again as Robbie attempted to climb up.
When he finally succeeded, June helped pull him through the window where he proceeded to hit his hip and head on the desk. Almost stepping on all her shopping bags, and jumping slightly at June's snapped warning that he had better not ruin her clothes, Robbie finally stood there tough he looked a bit worse for wear. The ball was over, so he didn't wear fancy clothes but instead wore jeans, a blue V-neck t-shirt, and tennis shoes. He wore no jacket, which June found a bit odd as it was probably cold for any non-werewolf and non-vampire, but June brushed it off as the guy was already weird enough. He had remains from the bush he had butchered by falling in it too many times in his hair and there were a few dirt smudges on his cheek.
"So, why were you chucking rocks at my window?" June asked
"I wanted to talk." He grinned
"Is there a reason you decided to throw one between my eyes?"
"Um...target practice?" His grin. That stupid damned grin.
"You're so insufferable!" June huffed
"Well, I could say the same thing about you!"
June looked at him weirdly, "You've known me for a day!"
Robbie raised his eyebrows, "Well, technically seven years and a day. We went to Hogwarts together, remember? Anyways, I guess you could say we've only really talked today-"
"Exactly." June said
"But!" He continued, "You said I'm insufferable and 'you've only known me for a day'!" Robbie did his impression on June's voice, mimicking what she said
"I do not sound like that." June deadpanned
"Well, maybe in my head you do!"
"I really never want to be in your head."
"Yeah, if you were in there for forty five second you'd probably be seeing a therapist for the next five hundred years."
His damn grin was infectious, and June felt her lips pulling up into a smile, "How do you know one of the Original Vampires in the house isn't waiting outside that door to kill you?"
"Because you spelled your room."
"How do you know that?" June asked, bewildered
"I'm a wizard to, remember?" He pulled his wand out of his belt buckle, "I just know this stuff!"
"You keep you wand in your belt buckle?" June raised an eyebrow
"Yes, yes I do. Where do you keep yours?"
"On my nightstand."
All of a sudden June was tackled by Robbie and pushed behind him.
"What. The. Hell?" June growled
"You don't have your wand! Rule number one, there are enemies everywhere! CONSTANT VIGILANCE"
Laughter bubbled up in her throat at the same time Robbie started cackling, "I take it you knew Mad-Eye Moody as well?"
Robbie kept on laughing, "Yea, I knew him. My mom was pretty good friends with before she died."
"Oh." June sobered up
Seeing this, Robbie shook his head, "It happened awhile ago. Both my old man and my mom are gone. Happened in second year, I'm all good now."
June knew for a fact that he was not 'all good', because she didn't even know her parents and she felt sick every time she thought of how they died. To know your parents, love them, become attached to them and then have them ripped away...June knew Robbie wasn't okay, but she dropped the subject. Whether it was because it was such a heavy subject or because for a short time, she forgot everything. When she talked to him, it all disappeared and it was all okay, and she liked it. She like him, even though he was a bit irritating.
Irritating in an endearing way, though.
Moving to get on her bed, June sat on the edge and brought her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them. She saw Robbie move to sit beside her and shook her head.
"What? I can't sit beside you?" He raised an eyebrow
"Nope! My bed! You can sit on the floor!" She smiled teasingly
Surprisingly, as June had only been joking, Robbie flopped on the floor. That damn smile was still plastered on his face and June began to wonder what it would take to remove it when he said, "While the carpet is comfy, you really need to get a chair. I mean, what's up with a desk that has no chair? A desk with no chair! Ha!"
June would never, ever admit that the very next day when everyone was out that she sped all the way down to the store and got a chair. A comfy one, plushy and everything, and she put it near the desk. After all, Robbie was right. What's a desk with no chair? It's just illogical.
(She did not get it because she wanted him to be comfortable when he visited her again.)
Question of the Chapter: What do you all think of Robbie? I kinda like him ;)
AGAIN, thank you to I am Katie Daughter of Demeter for helping me with this lovely OC, Robbie. As you can see he's very happy, but soon we'll discover what it does take to remove the smile that's always on his face.
I was hoping to introduce him officially, as he maybe had ten or less lines last chapter.
Anyways, if you want an update on your (not so) lovely author, here it is; I'm not sick anymore! YAY! Although, seeing as I missed a whole week of school, I have a lot of work to make up. Might want to get that done lol.
Please comment and all that! Hope you guys liked it!
