Chapter Twenty-two: Cracks
DICLAIMER: I do not own Harry Potter or Vampire Diaries!
SHOUTOUTS/NOTES: Kol's back and I'm excited to be writing his character again!
The reunited family and Robbie all stood in the middle of Grimmauld Palace, eager to leave and get home to Mystic Falls. June stood in between Robbie and Kol as she held out the portkey she had created out of some old relic she had found laying around. While they were not all fans of the portkey, except Kol who had never used one before, it was their only way of long distance transportation that didn't require sitting on a plane for hours upon hours.
June had her Invisibility Cloak folded in her arms, the Elder Wand tucked in her boots, and the Resurrection Stone in her pocket. Holding out the portkey, June nodded and everyone grabbed ahold. It was time to go back home and get revenge, of course. It could be a fun family activity.
"That was amazing!" Kol smiled widely, eyes bright, "Can we go again?"
All eyes turned to look at him as though he was crazy.
"Only you, brother, only you..." Rebekah trailed off
June smiled at seeing her uncle and aunt bicker once again, her family was truly complete. It was almost night out, maybe a few hours before the moon rose, by the time everyone had finished talking and laughing and conversing. June looked over at Robbie who was being unusually silent, and asked, "Are you okay?"
"I'm good!" Robbie gave her a tiny smile
June nodded and returned the smile, hoping the dark would hide the blush that dusted her face, "Good."
They hadn't really spoken since the kiss last night, but June was quite pleased things weren't awkward. He was her best friend, she didn't want to go and ruin what they had. She didn't want to lose him.
As every continued to talk, June decided it was past time to put the Hallows away. Besides, the hard material of the wand in her boot was beginning to hurt her feet. She picked up cloak from where she had set it down behind her and got the wand out of her shoes. Walking over towards the shelf besides the book case, all eyes followed her as she set the two Deathly Hallows down. Grabbing the third from her pocket, she was about to place it on the cloak beside the wand when she noticed something.
"It's cracked!"
June held up the Resurrection Stone in shock.
"What do you mean?" Kol raised an eyebrow
"I mead, the stone...it's cracked! How the bloody hell did I not notice this earlier..."
"It's understandable you didn't notice, what with all the excitement going on." Klaus put his hand on June's shoulder
"Yeah, I guess..." June looked dismayed, "However, why is the stone cracked?"
"Do you think it means something?" Rebekah asked, curious as she looked around for an answer
Robbie was the one who gave her one, "We broke it."
"That's impossible, isn't it?" Rebekah looked at June for explanation
"No...I...The stone is only supposed to bring back shades, not actual people. I think it's like...a one time thing. You know, bringing a person completely back to life..."
"I guess it would be sensible for that kind of power to break after one use, especially as it required no sacrifice." Elijah reasoned
June nodded, "I suppose...doesn't mean I'm happy about it though!"
Rebekah laughed, "I don't think any of us are happy it broke, June."
Rolling her eyes, June placed the cracked stone beside the Elder Wand nevertheless, "We should still keep it. The Death Eaters were obviously trying to make a come back and we don't want them to get any sort of power. The stone will probably still bring back shades."
Klaus rolled his eyes in a far to similar way to June, "I doubt we were going to go throw it in the river, Little Witch."
Rebekah flipped her hair behind her shoulder, "Well if you'll all excuse me I'm going to go out and look for a snack. I haven't fed in ages, I'm absolutely perished!"
As she went out the door of the Mikaelson home, Elijah looked at the rest of them, "I'm going to go and catch up on my notes."
He disappeared upstairs as June turned to her father and uncle, "Notes on what?"
"No clue." Kol shrugged, "Unicorns? Or maybe zombies? Ah, I know, maybe Elijah isn't as clean as we think and they're notes on se-"
"Finish," Klaus interrupted his brother with a snarl as he cast a secretive look towards June and Robbie, "That sentence and you'll be a pile of ash again."
"Yes, yes brother. Of course!" Kol smirked
"You're insufferable." Klaus snapped, "Now, I want fresh blood. I'm going to go out hunting, maybe I'll get a special treat."
Klaus disappeared and soon only Kol, June, and Robbie remained.
"Then there were three." Kol smiled
"What's got everyone going so soon?" June asked
"Well, Elijah has a book fetish and Nik and Bekah are probably hoping to run into the Scooby Gang for their snack." Kol shrugged
"Yeah!" Robbie laughed as he cast a glance at the clock, "I must be going. Need to get home and...clean!"
Kol smirked, "I'm going to go get a drink in the kitchen. I'll leave you two alone..."
June was proud hat she kept herself from turning bright red when Kol gave her a thumbs up and mouthed 'go for it' over Robbie's shoulder.
"You okay?" Robbie raised an eyebrow
"Y-yeah, I'm fine. Anyways, I'll walk you out."
"I can just-"
"No, no!" June smiled, "I insist!"
She led him to the doorway and on out to the porch. It was sunset, the sky lit up with brilliant colors as the end of the day neared. Robbie nodded at June as a goodbye and smiled when she grinned and told him to come back any time. As she shut the door, Robbie sighed in relief as he rushed to get away from the house.
Question of the Chapter: Is there really no sacrifice for bringing Kol back? Was the sacrifice the stone breaking? Or will something else happen? Also, why did Robbie want to leave so badly?
I had to rewrite this chapter three times. Still not completely happy with it, but it'll have to due. Hope you guys like it, I know it was horrible!
