Beautiful blood moon(Mifune x Kikuri)

Mifune sipped his cup, enjoying the cool winds in the air. It was a strange habit of his – even before coming to Grand Gaia – to watch the nighttime scenery on a rooftop whenever he can't sleep. No matter when and where, no matter the situation, Mifune always found the dark night calming him down.

"How's the night treating you Mi-kun?"

Mifune suppress the urge to twitch at that deplorable nickname. There's only one person who dares to call him that, and sure enough, a young girl dressed in a purple kimono plopped down next to him, her feet dangling over the edge. Really, did she have to go and call him THAT?

"… Kikuri" The ponytailed warrior acknowledged.

"Mou, you didn't answer my question" The girl pouted. It would have looked adorable, had Mifune not know what kind of person the girl in front of him was.

"… It's a fine night I suppose" Mifune replied, raising the cup in his hand to taste the content inside. It wasn't sake but he wasn't about to complain.

Unfortunately, his mind started to wander to the one topic he didn't want to think about: Kikuri.

For someone looking so innocent, Kikuri can be quite the monster. He still remembers the first time he saw her: Gleefully ripping heart in two while covered from head to toe in blood, in the middle of a field of corpse – both allies and enemies.

The girl lives for the thrill of bloodshed. Whether it be the blood of her allies, her enemies or the bystanders, she just did not care. If they're in her way then she will kill them without hesitating Kikuri was such a monster that sometimes, the people fighting in the war was more afraid of her than of the gods they were facing.

So if she's such a monster, what does that makes him then? Him, who have more than once gave into his bloodlust. Him, who could easily keep up with her. Him, who somehow have a soft spot for her.

"I think you're wrong Mi-kun" Her voice snapped him out of his reverie. "It's not a fine night at all"

Mifune tensed, believing that she's about to pull something strange. Turning to her just in case, Mifune was struck speechless by her expression. It was so out of place, so bizarre and yet… and yet, there was such a tender smile on her face that for a moment Mifune though Zellha was up to her illusions tricks again.

"Though… The moon sure is beautiful" The goth girl giggled to herself, one sleeved hand covering her mouth. "Right, Mi~fu~ne?~"

He knew it was wrong. He knew he should walk away. He knew that it's not going to-

"… It is"

Damn her and damn his heart.

Note: "The moon sure is beautiful" refers to something I read on the net. Supposedly, when he was still an English teacher, Natsume Soseki used this line as a translation for "I love you".
