Chapter 9.
"Emma, don't…" her mother said, saying her daughter grasping for the racing helmet on her nightstand to put it on. It would hurt like hell she knew. Even if it had been twenty-nine days since the accident, and Regina had tried healing her, a lot of her burns was still there.

"Don't tell me what to do," Emma's tone was stubborn. She always had been, if her parents told her one thing she would do the opposite of it.

"You can't be serious about going back to race after what happened?" Snow White was horrified.

"I am, I need to do this, don't try to stop me because there is no way that you can ever understand what I am going through. Only a racer could," she said. She was thinking about Regina now. She had been by a lot the first couple of weeks she had been there, but then she had to go back to race training Emma knew. It had hurt when she left and Emma knew she tried her hardest to get back, but she couldn't.

"Please tell me you are not doing this for her," Snow said with a heavy sigh.

"For Regina, mom don't you get it, right now the only thing that keeps me sane is to watch her race. That gives me something to work with, something to fight for. She is out there, my teammates are out there, even my son is out there!" her voice broke into a sob, just as her father entered.

"Easy, princess, easy," he said and held her close, stroking her every so gently. He didn't care about the helmet getting pressed between them. She retracted, slowly pressing it on, it hurt badly. She took a deep breath before taking it of. Her mother gave her a look, she rolled her eyes.

"I can't watch this," Snow said and left the room with a sigh.

David James Charming looked at his daughter, asking, "Do you have to do this, Emma?"

"It is the only right thing to do, it is all I know," she said with a nod.

"Alright, then I will try to support it," she squeezed her shoulder and smiled at her. She gave him another hug, knowing he would talk to her mother.

Cora and Henry was watching Regina race from the sidelines. She was winning again. She had been doing that a lot since Emma was in the hospital. She drove round and round, it was like and obsession. Like she didn't want to feel.

But Henry was a smart kid, he knew she felt, she had been crying herself to sleep a lot lately. Talking on the phone with Emma didn't seem to be enough, she missed her. Nothing could change that. He even suspected Regina of loving her, but that she would never admit he knew.

Another victory, she stepped out of the car, smiling, holding her helmet high, triumphant, unstoppable, happy. It was for Emma he knew, he had heard her on the race after the disaster. Talking to the other drivers, that race was to honor her. She needed her to see her, he knew. He smiled back waving at her, she waved back. He ran down the stairs, to the pit to hug her, hard, smiling. She hugged him back saying, "What did you think, Henry?"

Unlike Emma she used his name, he liked that. He even liked having her last name, it was like being a part of her. He smiled brighter saying, "A bit slow the first two round, but you got them, you are the best, mom."

"That means I need to work on my start, you want to come with taking the car apart?" she asked, ruffling his hair lovingly.

"Always," he said and smiled at her. She ruffled his hair, before they started to walk towards the crew, in her silent mind she wished Emma was there competing with her. Regina didn't even know how she knew that she would soon be doing that, still she did.
