I'm coming back to this story after having not posted anything for over a year. My life has been a whirl wind of craziness after having my second baby in September. I have made one small change to this story. I have noticed that I've been spelling Bae as Bea. It will now be spelled correctly as Bae. I do hope that yall enjoy. As always, reviews are welcome.
Bell sat mute, staring at Ragen as though he had just grown another head. He had to be joking. How could he possibly expect her to go along with this scheme? She hardly knew the man. But she did know that, above all things, he loved his son. And Bell love Bea also. Could she do this?
"Say something", Ragen pleaded. "I cant do this alone, Bell. And I can not loose him. He's the only piece of humanity I seem to have left. Please."
Oh, my. Ragen Gold was begging.
"I don't know what to say. I mean, I want to help. Really, I do. But how are we supposed to act like a couple in love when we hardly know each other? And if we do this, what about Bae? How do we explain to a toddler that this thing between us is not real?" Bell just couldn't wrap her head around it. How was she supposed to act like she was in love with a man who, for all intent and purposes, bought her?
Looking defeated, Ragen simply nodded his head. "I understand, Ms. French. Thank you for hearing me out. I'll think of something." As he walked away, his mind was reeling. What was he going to go? He will not loose Bae. He can't. There was no telling what harm could come to the child if left to the hands of his mother. Ragen simply would not allow that to happen.
"Wait", Bell whispered softly, almost to softly to hear. Do the brave thing and bravery will follow! "I'll try. I can't promise that this is going to work. But, if we want any hope of pulling this off, then we need to start getting to know each other. And I do not mean this polite indifference that you seem to regard me with. I mean really get to know each other on a person level. As a couple."
Ragen regarded Bell with something close to amusement. "Just how close are we supposed to be, Ms. French? Are we supposed to share a bed as well. I'm sure we could arrange that", he said with a hint of laughter in his eyes.
"Mr. Gold!", Bell flushed from the collar of her shirt to the roots of her hair. "I am not sleeping with you! However," she stated calmly, "I think you should start by calling me Bell. And I will heed you request, and call you Ragen."
"Well, that's a start I suppose. Also, Bell, just so you're aware, at the end of this little charade, and regardless of the outcome, I will release you from your father's contract. I will consider his debt paid and you will be free to go." Ragen felt it was the least he could do. Bell was offering him a chance to keep something precious to him. He could do nothing less than offer her the same courtesy. "I really so appreciate this. More than you know."
Bell smiled. She could do this. For Bae.
