Chapter 5 – Rescue
She heard a commotion outside her cell but didn't pay any attention to it as she was hanging from her chains, the burns cuts and broken bones being what occupied her mind. Suddenly she heard the sound of metal being ripped apart and turned around. She must have been hallucinating because there she saw a massive wolf with big blue eyes. She tried to wake herself but to no avail, she was already awake. When she saw it she tried to back down because of the fierce look it had, it came forward and ripped the chains holding her, then the wolf gave a whine in sign of submission as he stopped in front of her. Then she felt a massive and ancient mind enter her unguarded one and it spoke in the ancient language.
I am a friend, I've come here to rescue you, come and climb on top of me, and hurry there is no time to waste. it said in a reverberating deep voice. She snapped out of it and moved closer to the wolf, which put its belly on the floor so that she could easily climb onto it. As soon as she did, he turned around and started running at a pace that easily surpassed the fastest of elves. It seemed the guards were privy to her escape as the whole keep was in chaos. They managed to escape it without meeting anyone, outside the wolf only picked up more speed as he headed to a side of the wall surrounding the city. She felt as arrows started flying around them hoping to hit them but to no avail. She thought they were going to crash, but suddenly she felt the wolf rear up on it hind legs and jump, the cleared the wall and she felt it contact somebody else. She was astonished as she saw a blue dragon fly from where it must have been hiding and start flying on top of him.
Her strength was waning and she knew she was going to lose consciousness soon enough, and decided no to fight it, the last thing she remembered was the feeling of soft warm fur under her and the screams of the guards dying down.
They had been running for a whole day, Saphira keeping with him above the clouds with Brom on top of her. They had decided it was better to put as much distance as possible between them and the empire, they were heading south-east towards the Varden and in one more day they would reach the Hadarac desert. He called Saphira to let her know it was time to set up camp; he found a secluded place and slowed down. He proceeded to slowly and carefully lower the unconscious elf into to ground. As he lowered her into the ground, his mind stopped, he hadn't seen her face carefully before, but now everything was different. He felt like he was held down to the earth not because of gravity but because of her, and that his life orbited around her like the earth did the sun. He didn't know why, but he knew that from there on he would be anything she needed him to be, brother, friend, protector, lover.
With these new thoughts in mind he turned to human and put his clothes on. Wasting no time he started carefully healing her, Saphira and Brom had arrived and seeing he was occupied started building up a fire and setting up camp. All the while this new feeling of wanting to protect her never leaved him.
Saphira, what is happening to me, I've never felt this way before he said
I don't know little one, but I do know that what you feel is what Dragons feel when they find their mate, maybe is the same for wolves and that's what's happening to you? she offered.
Maybe, but lets not tell anyone else, I mean, I've just seen her once she would think I'm an idiot if go declaring my undying love for her.
As you wish
He finished his mental conversation with Saphira, and seeing that Arya was cold he scooped her up, Brom raising and eyebrow and eyeing him curiously. He placed the elf in his sleeping sack and covered her in blankets. "Let me know if she wakes up" he told Brom, who was even more confused by his sudden interest in the woman. He ignored him and went to sleep under Saphira's wing.
