Addison's View
Callie's head snapped against the tile floor before I could react. I was by her side in seconds. She was unconscious.
"Someone call an ambulance!" I yelled. "Come on Callie, don't go down on me." I said as I checked her pulse. It was faint but it was there.
"The ambulance will be her in just a few minutes." Someone told me. I nodded and started to give CPR. I never would have imagined I would have to give my best friend CPR. She'd went down so quickly I hadn't seen it coming. I had no clue what was wrong. Although I was certain she had a head injury now from how hard she had hit the ground. The ambulance came and got her. I was glad the hospital was literally just down the street. I rode in the back with her. I took the short ride as an opportunity to call Mark. He answered on the third ring.
"You know Addie, you could have just had me paged." Mark said annoyed.
"Mark shut up, meet me in the ER now. It's Callie." I told him.
"What the hell happened?" He asked.
"She just passed out." I told him and glanced at Callie's unconscious form. They had her on oxygen and a heart monitor. That was all they knew to do right now. They'd checked her for a head injury and so far her pupils were equal and reactive.
"I'm coming." He told me and hung up. We pulled into the ambulance bay a few seconds later. I hopped out first. Bailey froze when she saw Callie.
"What the hell happened?" Bailey asked. All I could do was shake my head. "Alright Little Grey, you're on this. Every test in the book and page Shepherd." Bailey ordered. Lexis nodded and took charge of Callie's case. "Addie come tell me what happened." Bailey said. I nodded and followed her upstairs to the general surgery wing. We went into her office to talk privately. I sat down in a chair and put my head in my hands. Bailey rubbed my back comfortingly.
"She was fine. We thought it was just morning sickness, but when she stood up to go home and rest she got really dizzy all the sudden and then she fell so fast I couldn't react. She hit the ground hard and went unconscious." I said a few tears slipped from my eyes. I was scared stiff I was going to lose my best friend. Bailey gripped my shoulder.
"She's going to make it. Callie is tough." Bailey told me in assurance. I nodded and wiped my eyes.
"Yeah, you're right. I'm just worried because she's pregnant." I told her. Bailey did a double take.
"Wait a minute. Callie is pregnant?" Bailey asked.
"Crap, she hadn't told anyone yet." I said suddenly kicking myself for letting it slip.
"Well, Lexie needs to know in order to properly treat Callie anyways." Bailey told me. I nodded. Bailey was right, in order to give Callie the best care possible, they needed to know that she was pregnant.
"You're right. You should let her know." I told Bailey. She smiled sympathetically and left her office, promising to be right back. I was scared out of my wits. After a minute or two Bailey's office door opened again. I didn't bother to look up. I didn't care who it was. A hand rested on my shoulder. A hand I knew really well. I looked up and locked eyes with my loving husband Alex. He smiled.
"Hey babe. Bailey said you were in here and you were beating yourself up." Alex said. I nodded.
"Just a little." I admitted. Alex shook his head and pulled me into a hug.
"Why on Earth are you blaming yourself for Callie collapsing?" Alex asked concerned.
"I should have, I don't know. But I should have been able to do something." I said. Alex let go of me and squatted down in front of me so that we were looking each other full in the face.
"Listen to me Addie. There was nothing you could do to stop her from falling. It all happened so fast. It is not your fault." Alex told me never breaking eye contact. I broke down crying. Alex sighed and pulled me in a hug. When I finally calmed down and stopped crying Alex pulled away.
"Stop, just hold me for a while." I pleaded. Alex smiled and nodded. When we pulled out of the hug our eyes met again and I kissed him. I suppose we shouldn't have had sex in Bailey's office, but it just kind of happened. Afterwards I cleaned her desk off and sanitized it. Alex grabbed my hand.
"Come on I think we erased all traces of our love, let's go see if there's any news on Callie." Alex said. I nodded and let Alex lead me down to the ICU where Bailey had told us Callie was. We found her room easily. Mark was glued to her side and Teo, Trenton, and Kimberly were all standing really close to Callie's bedside. It broke my heart. You could tell that Kimberly was trying to fight back tears. Bailey and Lexie were in deep conversation with Derek at the Nurse's station. We decided to talk to them first.
"What's going on?" I asked. Lexie gave me a look.
"Well, the fall created a small intracranial bleed that we're monitoring closely, Derek believes it will resolves on it's own. As far as what caused the fall, Callie is suffering from acute kidney failure.
"But she wasn't sick." Alex said confused.
"She had the flu, but we figured it was just morning sickness. Right?" I asked. Lexie nodded.
"We've got her on dialysis. We're hoping that we won't have to remove her kidney but we might have to." Lexie said. I nodded.
"Has she woken up yet?" I asked. Bailey shook her head.
"Mark would have told us. He hasn't moved an inch." Bailey told me. I let go of Alex's hand.
"Let me go talk to him. Alex maybe you should go get Mason and take all the kids to get ice cream. Kim looks like she's about to lose it, and Trenton and Teo don't know what to do at all." I told Alex. He nodded and kissed me gently. Alex went in to Callie's room first and talked to Mark for a bit before he left with the kids in tow. I went in after they were gone and sat near Mark. You could tell he was shaken up.
"Lexie said the baby was doing good." Mark told me after a long awkward silence. I smiled.
"Let's good." I told him. Mark nodded.
"Yeah, but it won't matter if Callie doesn't get better." Mark said. I nodded sadly.
"Mark, why don't you go get something to eat. I promise to watch over her." I told him. Mark nodded.
"I do have to pee." He admitted. "Call me if she wakes up." Mark said. I nodded.
"Absolutely." I told him. Mark nodded and walked out of the room. I grabbed Callie's hand and squeezed. "Callie, please wake up. Your kids, they need you, and so does your unborn baby." I said stroking the top of her hand. Her fingers twitched. "Callie?" I asked. Callie's eyes fluttered open. She moaned softly and looked around the room.
"Addie?" She asked. I smiled.
