She opened the door to her room and stepped out wearing one of her night gowns, stretching and lazily yawning as she made her way to the kitchen. Her hair was a mess and her appearance probably equaled it, but she didn't really care… and that was until her eyes ran into that familiar shape and saw his shirtless form standing over the stove. She cursed herself a thousand times. This man did have the worst timing ever.
"Good morning." He said as he looked over his shoulder and smiled at her.
"Morning…" She muttered and sat at the table.
"Want some?" He pointed at the pancakes as he placed some eggs onto the plate.
She extended her hands to grab a bit but he smacked her away and sat down next to her, "Use some forks." He said and witnessed as her lips fell into a tight line and her eyes glared at him.
"I don't want to!" She barked back and pinched the fluffy pancake, ripping a small piece of it and quickly bringing it to her mouth.
He sighed and rolled his eyes, bathing the plate with syrup, "Whatever." He muttered as he used the knife and fork to start cutting his food into pieces, "Rough night?" He asked, eyeing her as she blushed and looked away, throwing her hair over her shoulder and starting to braid it. "Or should I say morning?" He took a sip from a glass of milk.
"None of your business…" She muttered, placing her elbows over the table as he chuckled and she reached for the bowl of fruits he had prepared.
The rest of the breakfast went like this, quiet and somewhat awkward, as they both munched on their food, that was until her phone went off and she reached for it, giggling like a high school teen as she read the text message that was sent to her.
"What's that all about?" He asked, taking a forkful of eggs to his mouth and leaning closer to her, looking over her shoulder to see what the conversation was all about.
Rinoa jumped on her seat when she felt his breath on her neck and the closeness of him, "Don't be so nosey!" She yelled as she pulled away and put the phone face down on the table and reached for another piece of his pancakes.
Squall's arm shot out and reached for the phone, reading the last message she had sent, "Nida? ... That name sounds familiar." He quirked his eyebrow and scowled as Rinoa snatched the phone from his hands, "Nida... Nida... Why does that name sound so familiar?"
"Nida! Pediatrician from Garden? He was the doctor attached to our unit on the Galbadian mission we had when we started at Garden." Irvine chirped coming out of his room and being followed by Selphie who was stretching and lazily yawning.
"No way!" Squall looked at Irvine and then back at Rinoa, "How do you know Nida?" He asked the brunette next to him as she blushed and sunk deeper into her seat.
"Met him at the bar a couple of nights ago..." She muttered as she reached for a cup of coffee.
"That loser, seriously?" Irvine asked her as he sat across from her.
"He's always had the weirdest of luck with women." Zell stifled a yawn as he reached for the coffee and poured it in a mug, "I don't know how he does it, but they follow him like flies."
"How do you even kno-" and just then her words were cut off by the shaggy haired brunette male stepping out of her room.
"Hey, Rinoa! Last night was pretty amazing!" He moved to stand next to her and placed his hand on her neck, rubbing his fingers against her pressure points as she threw her head back and he leaned in for a kiss.
Nida was tall, he stood close to Squall's height, his hair was a messed of tousled brown locks and his eyes a weird shade of brown, almost resembling honey. He was alluring and refreshing, also smart and always had a smile on his face... the complete opposite of Squall.
"Hey Selphie!" He nodded his head and grabbed a strawberry from the bowl in fromt of Rinoa, "Irvine, Zell... Squall." His eyes lingered on Squall's for a bit and he chuckled, "Well, I'm off to work. I'll drop by tonight if I have the time." He reached down and kissed Rinoa on the temple as she whispered an agreement. "Nice seeing you again, guys!"
Rinoa felt the warmth of his fingers leaving her neck and took a deep breath, reaching for the mug in front of her.
"So Nida, huh?" Selphie suggested as she wiggled her eyebrows and Rinoa flushed.
"It's just sex." She protested and Squall scoffed, "What's that supposed to mean?" Rinoa asked him with a slight pout.
"You don't do 'just sex'." He threw his hands up and moved his fingers as if quoting what she just said, "You're not a girl next door."
Rinoa quirked her eyebrow at him and look around, seeing as the guys turned their looks away and pretended to eat their breakfast. "Whatever that means?"
"You're uptight, you can't stand not texting someone throughout the whole day, you never know what you want and you can't separate feelings from sex." Squall finished and Rinoa flushed, her face was beet red and he could tell she was furious.
"And you're the master in the subject of Rinoa since when?" She asked, a ludicrous tone making the question sound rethoric.
Squall took a deep breath and rubbed the bridge of his nose, bringing his hands to the table and sliding his chair back and standing up, grabbing his plates and putting them on the sink, trying his best to ignore the question he'd just been asked and walking away towards his room.
"No! Don't walk away from this, you started it and now you finish it." Rinoa yelled as she got up from her chair and slammed her hands on the table.
"Rin, just drop it." Selphie pleaded as she put a hand on top of Rinoa's. "Don't you think it's a bit early in the morning for this?"
"I agree with Selphie," Squall muttered as he reached for the doorknob.
"Why do you care what I do or who I do it with?! Why do you walk away every single time?! Why?!" Rinoa asked, taking steps towards Squall.
"I don't care! You want to have sex with him? Go! Do it! Whatever I think has never stopped you from doing it before!" Squall barked back at her as her eyes widened.
Rinoa's small frame stood there, motionless in the middle of the hallway, as if she were frozen in time and a wave of emotions hit her over and over again and she spoke indisctintively.
"Come again?" Squall asked.
"Just drop it, Squall, that's enough!" Selphie yelled as Squall sighed and turned around, reaching for the doorknob once more.
"You, out of all people, don't get to call me a slut." Rinoa said softly, bringing her eyes up and looking at Squall who turned around.
"Speak up, can barely hear you." He said as he stared, witnessing as tears began to pool on her eyes and regretting the moment he decided to start this conversation today.
"You don't get to call me a slut!" She yelled, "you walked away! You left us- me! You made your choice and I made mine, and as foolish as yours was I don't call you an idiot for doing so... So you- you don't get to call me a slut for making this choice! Don't you dare!"
Rinoa finished and turned around, opening the door to her room and entering, not even daring to close it behind her as she succumbed into her bed and became a sobbing mess.
"Good job, asshole." Selphie said as she went in the room and sat next to Rinoa, comforting her.
"You really know how to make an entrance, bro!" Zell yelled with a grin.
"Fuck you." Squall flicked him off and slammed the door to his room but he could still hear her sobbing.
And for the first time in his life he found himself doing something he never thought he'd do... He agreed with Zell, he did have a knack for screwing things up, and right now he swore he had screwed up the one thing that was right for him.
A/N: Sorry for the delay, guys! My mom has been over for a while now so I have been running around showing her the city and driving lots and working and ugh! Anyhow, here it is! Hope you liked it.
