Chapter One

The guild hall of Fairy Tail was full of life as always, it could be heard from the usually serene scene of Magnolia Cathedral. The residents of the city loved the guild and after the seven year absence of the rowdy crowd they were all willing to put up with all the partying the guild intended to do. On this particular day Natsu and Gajeel had declared an ultimate arm wrestle which had of course turned into a brawl. Chairs where being flung around, tables were smashed, it was chaos, it was Fairy Tail. The hall was so wild that not many paid attention to the nervous looking celestial mage walking up to the bar.

Lucy was yet to tell anyone other than her mother and father about her feeling for Erza, and since they would never be able to respond to what she wrote it wasn't as therapeutic as a live person would be. Sometimes Lucy wandered how her parents would react to her harbouring feelings to someone of the same gender. She was fairly sure that her mother would be fine with it, but she remained unsure how her father would react, she never got to know the changed man.

The mage was continuing her approach to the bar completely unaware of her surroundings when she tripped over a slightly outstretched leg. Letting out a little "Eek!" she saw the floor get gradually closer to her face. Her eyes closed on reflex ready for the impact, but it didn't come. She opened her eyes to see a mouth turned up at the corners in a smirk, brown eyes staring directly into hers, and beautiful scarlet hair cascading down. A small blush formed on her cheeks when she realised that it was Erza that had caught her and that the woman she was in love with currently had her arms wrapped around her waist. Crap I have successfully managed to embarrass myself in front of Erza…again, wait ago me, at least this time I have some clothes on…

"Are you alright Lucy?" Asked Erza, successfully cutting of Lucy's inner thoughts.

"Wha- OH um me… uhh yeah ugh I'm good," she replied, or at least attempted to reply. Coherent sentences weren't occurring very easily.

The older mage's smirk remained on her face and Lucy could feel her heartrate pick up because Damn that smirk is attractive. "You should probably pay more attention to your surroundings. That could have been a painful fall" she stated.

"Well I'm lucky to have you here to help keep me safe," Lucy joked, this time managing to not stutter.

"Always" Erza said sincerely. Nakama had always been the most important thing to Erza so, even though she knew that Lucy was just joking around, she had to reply seriously because she wouldn't stop putting her friends safety above all else until she died. She pulled Lucy up to a standing position because she could see that not being upright was making Lucy red faced, and she didn't want her to pass out.

How does she always manage to say just the right thing to make me blush? At this point she was pulled to her feet by the object of her affections and neatened out her crumpled clothes.

"Um thanks for catching me Erza," she muttered.

"It's not a problem Lucy," her smile turned warm "so what are your plans for today, any crazy jobs with Natsu planned?"

"I was thinking of taking this day just to relax, I have enough jewels for my rent already so it's not necessary to do a job." Yesterday's job had been extremely draining, it comes as no surprise that Natsu had gone overboard completely destroying the client's precious trees. Luckily it had been a 500,000 jewel job so when the client reduced the pay by 100,000 jewels both Natsu and her still came out with a decent amount of money. So today was a very good day to relax, but even though she was not doing any physically straining activities she was certainly very tense due to all the worrying she had done previously.

"That is an excellent idea, everybody requires a rest sometimes and being partners with Natsu is definitely exhausting"

"Yes…definitely," Lucy sighed, exhausting is an understatement "so what are you doing today?"

Erza's face lit up as she remembered what she was about to do before her encounter with the clumsy mage. "I am about to go a few cakes from the cake shop, then I must check all my armours to make sure they are in pristine condition."

The way that cakes make Erza so happy never failed to make Lucy smile, and her love for her armours and weapons was so admiral Lucy fell deeper every time. "How many cakes is a few?"

"40"

I will never understand how she can eat so many cakes and still have such a great figure. "And I guess that they are all for you?" Lucy laughed

"Of course," Erza smiled, she knew that people found her cake eating habits very extreme but she didn't care because cakes are god's gift to the world and who is she to deny the gift of a god. "I must be heading off if I am to complete my tasks for today."

Lucy had been staring at Erza for a while now and had completely forgotten that she needed to say something. "Oh right, um yeah, I better get to the safety of the bar before that brawl gets too out of hand. See ya later Erza," Lucy waved and started to back towards the bar.

"See you Lucy," Erza waved back and headed towards the doors of the guild. Lucy sighed as she walked away, Ughhh you've fallen to hard Lucy. As Lucy headed towards the bar she noticed that it was empty with only Mira cleaning glasses behind the counter. Perfect, that means that no-one will overhear what I need to say to her.

The young mage sat on a stall, mentally preparing herself for divulging her greatest secret. Mira, having noticed Lucy's presence, walked up to her whilst cleaning the bar top.

"Hi Lucy" Mira said with her usual welcoming smile.

"Hi Mira-san"

"What would you like, we recently got some new beverages which I'm sure you would love"

"Actually Mira I was wondering if I talk to you about something personal" Lucy said whilst staring at the table, too nervous to look Mira in the eye. The older girl had rarely seen her look so nervous so knew that it was a serious matter.

"Of course Lucy, how about we go to the store room and talk, that way no-one can interrupt us" Mira said warmly. All she got for a reply was a little nod, so continued to lead Lucy to the private area.

"Will it be ok just leaving the bar?" Lucy inquired.

"Yeah Lisanna will take care of it" Mira replied whilst opening the door to the store cupboard. The room was cosy with many barrels of wine, half of them reserved for Cana, and groceries arranged neatly into boxes and shelves. Lucy had never been in there before so was a little surprised to see how many supplies the guild actually had stored.

"What's wrong Lucy?"

"Well umm I've had feelings for someone for a long time an-" she didn't get to finish her sentence because Mira excitedly interrupted.

"OH MY GOD, is it Natsu? You guys would be so cute together. Oh maybe it's Gray-"

"Mira, its no-" Lucy tried in vain to stop her rambling.

"-you might need to watch out for Juvia she won't take it well. Oh oh oh Loke, you two-"

"Mira!"

"-but he's a celestial spirit so that could be complicated but I thi-"

"MIRA! I am not in love with Natsu, Gray or Loke. It's a lot more complicated than that. I have loved this person for what feels l like forever, but… but I can never have them because they're in love with someone else, a man, and-"

She stopped when she felt a hand on her shoulder and sympathetic eyes, "Is it Freed?" Wha- How the hell could she think it's Freed, I've barely even talked to him. "I understand why you're so pained, his love for Laxus is very strong, I ca-" ok this is going too far I better just tell her.

"It's Erza…" She mumbled face tilted down.

Mira didn't hear what she had said because it was so quiet, "Sorry, I didn't hear what you said. Can you repeat?"

Lucy looked up at her with sad eyes and said slightly louder "It's Erza."

A look of realisation came across Mira's face, of course it was Erza. Mira had always known that Lucy had admired Erza, it was obvious. But it had never crossed her mind that she had seen Erza as more than just a role model. Now that she thought about it, it certainly did explain all the blushing and stuttering and staring for a few seconds too long. But one word stood out amongst everything that Lucy had said so far, 'love'. This wasn't just a crush, this was long lasting, this was strong, and this was very hard on Lucy.

"Every day," continued Lucy, "she manages to make me fall even harder. Everything she does is so perfect, so beautiful, so… so Erza. Before her I had never really been attracted to people, I could appreciate when someone was attractive but never felt attraction. But then Erza comes along with her perfect everything and has completely taken my heart. It's not just an attraction thing, she managed to make me feel special, cared for. She managed to make me not feel weak, even though she is at least million times stronger than me she treats me like an equal…" tears were starting to form in Lucy's eyes and a lump was making it difficult to speak.

"At first I thought it would pass, that it was just a crush, but everything she does just makes me fall harder. I just want to hug her, to be around her, to be with her. But that will never happen because she is obviously smitten with Jellal. I'm not surprised, they've been through so much together, of course she loves him. I… I want her to be happy so I've accepted that she will be forever happy with him not me. But… I, I can't help but feel so jealous… i-i-it hurts Mira, to know that I can never be with her. It hurts s-so much. I just want to get over her but I don't know how…" The tears gathered in her eyes were now freely falling.

"It hurts so much Mira…" she said in between tears "…so much."

Mira moved faster than humanely possible, faster than even racer could move, and enveloped Lucy in a comforting hug. Love is meant to be such a happy thing, so it pained her to see someone, who she considered another sister, suffering so much because of it. "It's okay," she soothed "let it out". Lucy's grip around Mira tightened as they stood holding each other waiting for the sea of tears to die down.

'Lucy needs to be happy' was the dominant thought in her mind, and Erza is the one who can help her with that. Could Erza ever liker back? Possibly, she had always been extremely comfortable with other women, and certainly seemed to have a soft spot for Lucy. But then there's Jellal, what were Erza's feelings to Jellal. She would have to find out somehow.

The more Mira thought about it the more she realised how cute of a couple Erza and Lucy would be. Thought of a wedding and children popped into her head, and that is when she decided that it was her mission, as the guilds renowned matchmaker, to find out if Erza could return the feelings and if she could get them together. This would be quite a difficult task so she might need help from someone else. Someone no-one would suspect, someone who knew them both very well. The corner of her mouth twitched into a smirk as she started conjuring up a plan, all she needed not was to soothe Lucy and get someone to become her inside man, she knew the perfect person for the job. Natsu.
