Disclaimer: I own nothing but my characters and my plot. Sometimes it upsets me.
Two Years Later:
"I can't seem to get a hold of this meditation." Luna complained to me. "You shouldn't come to me for help, apparently I'm impatient, attached and action prone. Or so said my meditation teacher." I said with a smirk. "Good for you. This may be a class you fail before I do." She said sarcastically. "Don't be so negative." I raised my voice an octave, mimicking my Jedi Code teacher. " 'Tis not the Jedi way." Both Luna and I double over laughing. After I get my emotions under control I look at the clock. "Time for me to go. I told Obi-Wan I would meet up with him at the cafeteria for dinner." I stood up and headed towards the door. "Wait one second. I need you to go get me a few holocrons from the archives. When you get them meet me in the cafeteria." Luna said handing me the list. I scan over it. "This is some pretty interesting stuff. What would a nine year old want with a blaster building guide?" I asked with one eyebrow raised. "It's just fun reading. Now go." She pushed me out of our room and closed the door in my face.
With a sigh I headed over to the archives. I needed to talk to Tahl anyways. Finally I made it to the door and headed in. Looking at the list I went over to the shelves to start looking. After putting seven little cubes in my pocket, I went in search for Tahl. Ten minutes went by and I had still not found her. After asking someone, he had told me that she had taken the rest of the night off. Last he saw her she was heading towards the cafeteria. I slowly started to make my way over there. Something didn't seem right. I searched for her force signature; It had been blocked. I searched for Luna's only to find hers blocked to. Tahl being a Jedi master could do that but Luna? No. No one our age could, which meant they were together.
By this time I was at the entrance of the cafeteria. Opening the door I scanned the room for familiar faces. Catching a glimmer of white hair, I cautiously make my way over to the table. All of a sudden four figures turn to me and yell simultaneously "Happy Birthday!" I jumped a little, startled. Then their words hit me. It was my birthday and I had forgotten. I was officially ten years of age. Two years ago I had come to the temple and now I was entering my last stage of initiate training. That was bad news too. It was almost time for me to become a padawan and other than Qui-Gon and Tahl I didn't know any Jedi willing to become my master. 'Stop it Nova, now is not the time.' I scolded myself.
Back in the present I saw my family, I had come to think of us as a family, standing in front of me with smiles on there faces. A smile threatened to split my face. "You remembered!" I said as I rushed over to embrace them all. In the two years I had been here we had become a family. Qui-Gon was the loving father, Tahl was the strict mother, Luna was the rebel child, Obi-Wan was the perfect one, and I was the realist. "We would never forget your birthday, little one." Qui-Gon said with a smile. "Because I'm nice and he can be convincing we are taking you to dinner in town." Tahl said trying to maintain her strict tough girl act. I smile again and give her another hug. Though she would beg to differ it was her call to go to dinner, Qui-Gon had just suggested it. Tahl knelt down to my level hugging me back. "Happy Birthday Nova."
After paying for the food, we sat around the table in comfortable silence. My thoughts returned to my on going crisis, no one was interested in training me. What happened to Obi-Wan was nothing short of a miracle and chances are it would not happen. "What troubles you, magdolia." Qui-Gon asked using the nickname he had given me. It meant 'Little One' in my language. "Nothing." Was my tired response.
"Do not try to cover this up. There is obviously something bothering you." Obi-Wan said. I look around to see them all nodding. I sighed. "I can't help but notice that no knight or master has taken an interest in my training. I know we are supposed to wait until after the Trials but most students already have a perspective Master. Even Luna has Master Clee Rhara looking into her training." Qui-Gon and Tahl look at each other.
"I thinks it's time to give our gifts to you." Tahl said with a smile. Luna pulled out a picture she had painted. "I have been working on it for a while. Hope you like it." She handed it to me. Turning it over I saw a beautiful picture of a galaxy. "It's amazing!" I all but yelled as I hugged her. "My turn." Obi-Wan said as he pulled out a small box. Inside was a intricately carved metal necklace. The metal was bent around a red gem, the size of my pinkie nail. My eyes widened. "A firegem! Were did you get one of these?" I asked in amazement as I gently put it in my hand. It was warm but not unbearably hot and if I tried I could feel it vibrating in my hand. "Where I got it is not important. Do you like it?" He inquired. "I love it!" Then a though crossed my mind. "Doesn't this explode when it enters hyperspace?" I ask my face falling. "Normally, yes. But I have wrapped it in an alloyed that reverses the reaction. As long as it remains in that necklace, it is perfectly harmless." He stated simply. "Thank you." I said as I gave him a hug. I walk over to Luna. "Can you put this on?" I asked. She nodded and clasped it to my neck.
Qui-Gon clears his throat. "My gift was dinner outside of the Temple." I smiled. "Thank you." Tahl sat forward. "Lastly my gift. Nova Tenebris," she started. "It would be my pleasure to take you on as a padawan after the trials." Luna's, Obi-Wan's and my jaw dropped. "Thank you, thank you, thank you! You won't regret it!" I screamed jumping up to hug her. She laughed. And with that I now had my future secured.
Authors Note: This is more of a special than a chapter. In real life yesterday was my birthday and I found out which high schools I had been accepted into. Thankfully I got into all so it was a great birthday. Also a firegem is a black market gem that explodes when put near an active hyperdrive. If you didn't know Obi-Wan was almost not accepted by a master. When he was in was like 12 weeks before the cut of age of 13. Anyways please Review!
