Chapter 3:

Shadow: so are we doing this in flashback form or paragraph form?

Sticks: paragraph form works for me.

Shadow: the Meta jokes aren't getting better, are they?

Stick: nop.

Shadow: where to start…

Shadow: I was born in a fortress on a volcano; I was used as a test subject by a mad scientist to create "the ultimate life form". I only had one friend, her name was Maria. The granddaughter of the Doctor, She helped me to run away from the fortress.

Sticks: wait you were a science experiment?

Shadow: yeah, since I was kid Doctor Robotnik experienced on me.

Sticks: so that's how you got your powers!

Shadow: no I had them at birth, that's what made me special. Anyway, where was I?

Maria helped me escape from the hands of her grandfather; but she stayed with him.

I ended up in this island, and I met…

Sticks: sonic!

Shadow: let me finish will ya?

I met sonic, after most people mistook me for him. How could they? We don't look that much alike do we?

He helped me when I was alone, gave me a place I can call home and... This is starting to sound like a yaoi… short version he and the people on this island helped me, I wanted to help them back. That why I joined the Shadow Heroes.

Sticks: Shadow heroes?

Shadow: Me, sonic, tails and knuckles.

Sticks: you were really called that.

Shadow: we didn't have a real name so each one of us called it whatever we wanted.

Doctor Robotnik was kidnapping citizens, I never knew why. But the team managed to stop his robot army more than once; we used to be a great team.

Sticks: Why did you split up?

One day, we had enough of Robotnik's plans. So we decided to put an end to him once and for all, we were gonna blow up his fortress and we had help from this inside.

Maria told us that she would help us if we promise to spare her grandfather's life and just capture him, so she gave us the plans for the fortress.

But it didn't go so well, longue story short because I am sure the author will make a another fanfiction that will tell this story in more details. Maria was accidentally killed by a robot, Tails and knuckle were trapped and almost killed, and the doctor ran away. Sonic could have stopped him, but he went to save Knuckles and tail instead, making Marias's sacrifice meaningless.
After that, I understood that friends make you weaker. They will get in your way and stop you from reaching your goals, that's why I decided to work alone.

Shadow: and that the abridged version of my story.

Sticks: so you hate sonic because he saved tails and knuckles?

Shadow: I don't hate sonic, I am just saying the truth. His friend makes him weak, I don't need that.

Sticks: it's not about that is it?

Shadow: huh?

Sticks: it's not about sonic letting the doctor go, it's about Maria.

Shadow: what do you mean?

Sticks: when Maria was killed, you didn't want to see anyone else you care about die, so you just went working solo.

Shadow: that's not true.

Sticks: that's why you didn't want sonic and tails to go through that portal, you were worried about them.

Shadow: WHAT IF I WAS!

There was an awkward silence between the two of them.

Shadow: Maybe I still care more about them then I want to admit, maybe the whole "you are weak" thing is just an excuse. But that doesn't change anything; I still refuse to go through the same thing again. I'd rather be alone.

She sat next to him and started cutting the rope she tied him up with.

Sticks: is being alone really what you want?

Shadow: …

Sticks: I was alone, a long time before meeting the team, and I sure as hell don't miss it. I wouldn't say it in front of them, but I love everyone, I love sonic confident and kinda grumpy personality, I love tails crazy genius thing, I love stupid knuckles and his big heart, I love how sweet and motherly Amy is. If they stopped begin my friends I would rather die.

At that moment, they were interrupted by a bipping sound.

Sonic: Sticks, this sonic do you hear me.

Sticks: Perfectly Sonic.

Sonic: Finally, we were trying to reach for a moment, listen we have a problem. Eggman built that robot again, and he is gonna try to burn the island… Again.

Sticks: we will be here in no time.

Sonic: we?

Shadow: Meet you at the Volcano.

Sonic: shadow? … Fine, see ya there.

He closed the communication

Sticks: we gotta go fast.

Shadow: leave it to me.

He carried her, and went as fast as possible.
