At the workplace of Dale Cabrera-
Don and Mac went to visit Mike Taylor, Cabrera's boss.
"Mike Taylor?" Don asked as they went in the office.
"Yes, can I help you?" Mike asked.
"This is Detective Flack and I'm Detective Taylor, we are investigating the death of one of your former employees, Dale Cabrera." They flashed their badges.
"I can't give you much information on him since he is no longer employed," Mike said.
"What did you do with the stuff he left?" Don asked.
"We have it in boxes in storage," Mike said.
"We do need that," Don said then Mac called for the crime scene unit on his cell phone.
"What can you tell us about him?" Mac asked.
"He was a hard worker but he spent most of his time bullying people and just recently we started to make documentations since he had gotten worse," Mike said.
"How long has he worked here?" Don asked.
"Three years," Mike replied.
"You mean you just started documenting everything he did recently but he had been bullying people the last three years?" Mac said surprised.
"Yes, we had an incident back in November where an employee punched him," Mike said.
"Can you tell me the name of the employee?" Mac asked.
"I wasn't there when it happened and he was fired so I have no idea who it is," Mike said.
"You are a very good boss," Don said sarcastically.
"I may be boss, but I don't do the hiring and firing."
"Who does the hiring and firing?" Mac asked.
"The owner of this building, Robin Maycock," Mike said.
"Where is Robin?" Don asked.
"He is off today," Mike said.
"You can take us to storage," Mac said when the crime scene unit showed up.
Mac and Don walked to the car then talked about the case.
"I wonder what Robin will say about this but I will find out if there is a charge filed and let you know," Don said.
"The person who did the assault is high up on my list," Mac said.
"Mine, too," Don said as they headed for the precinct then Mac went to the lab.
A few hours later at the home of Robin Maycock-
Mac and Jo went to Robin Maycock's home. They noticed a man picking a lock on an apartment door nearby. Jo took out her phone and took pictures, then they both drew their guns.
"NYPD!" Mac yelled as the guy had opened the door.
He looked at them and ran; Mac and Jo ran after him and Jo called for officers who were stationed outside the apartment building to stop the intruder.
The man ran outside and were stopped by the officers and was handcuffed.
"We caught you red handed, " Jo said then continued. "What's your name?"
"I don't know what you are talking about," the intruder said.
Mac frisked him and took his wallet out and opened it. "His name is Sam Wong," The officers took his ID and ran it through the computer in the car.
"What were you doing?" Jo asked.
"Nothing," Sam said.
"You don't even live in that apartment so what were you doing?" Mac asked angrily as Sam looked at him with surprise.
"You're a cop?" Sam asked.
"Yes!" Mac growled then said sarcastically. "We haven't met, have we?"
"No," Sam said nervously.
"You sonofabitch! It was you wasn't it?!" Mac then angrily growled at him and shook him by the scruff of his neck.
"Mac?" Jo asked confused as she held Mac's arm.
"I want a lawyer," Sam said.
"Detective, he has several warrants for burglary," an officer told Mac.
"Read him his rights, take him to the precinct and wait for his lawyer," Jo said.
The officer took him to the precinct while Mac called Adam to take fingerprints and take pictures at the apartment Sam was trying to break into. He had an officer stationed at the apartment while Adam processed the door then once Adam finished, he went back to the lab and processed the evidence.
"Mac, what was that about?" Jo asked.
"What?" Mac asked even though he knew what Jo was asking about then continued. "Nothing."
"Mac, that wasn't nothing. Did he do something to you or Christine?" Jo asked as they were close to Robin's apartment.
"I think he was in Christine's apartment a few weeks ago and she was robbed. He must have seen a picture of me and her together." Mac said.
Jo's cellphone rang and she slipped it out of her pocket and picked it up, "Danville. I see, okay, thanks Don." Jo then hung up and put the cellphone in her pocket.
"What's the latest?" Mac asked as they got to the door of Robin's apartment.
"There was a criminal charge filed, but the guy, Rodney Sparkman, died of a massive heart attack before he could be arraigned."
"How old was he?" Mac asked.
"57, even though he had heart problems all his life and also had temper issues."
Mac knocked on the door and Robin answered.
"Yes?" Robin asked as the chain stopped the door from opening any more.
"This is Detective Taylor and I'm Detective Danville, we would like to speak with Robin."
"I'm Robin, can I help you?" he said.
"We would like to come in," Mac said.
"I'm sorry but you do not have my permission. We can talk here," Robin said.
"Do you remember Dale Cabrera?" Jo asked.
"Yes, he is no longer employed since I fired him for not showing up. Did he file a complaint against me?" Robin asked.
"No, he was found dead. When is the last time you saw him?" Mac said.
"April 26th," Robin answered.
"Did he say anything to you?" Jo asked.
"Just that he would see me in two weeks," Robin said.
"I understand he was punched by an employee a a few months ago, do you know where that employee is?" Jo asked.
"He was terminated but I don't know why the charges were dropped or seemed like they were," Robin said.
"Do you know his name?" Jo asked.
"I do but I can't remember it right now. Anything else?"
"No, thank you for your time," Jo said then they both walked away as they heard the door close, then they returned to Mac's SUV.
Mac noticed Jo was quiet then asked, "What are you thinking?"
"I don't know, but I think we need to check his and other employees' backgrounds. He didn't seem upset that Dale was killed and didn't want to let us in," Jo said.
"I'll have Sheldon check out everyone's background," Mac said then continued, "Why don't you and Lindsay talk to Sam. I'm going to see how Adam is doing with the processing of Sam's apartment."
"Okay," Jo said.
At the apartment of Joe Sparkman-
Jamie and Don knocked on the door and waited for an answer.
