"Tell us, who do you think the killer is, Adam?" Jo said as Mac joined in and sat down.
"Joe Sparkman," Adam said as he noticed Don nodding and smirking.
"What makes you say Joe did the murder other than his car and boat near the boating docks?" Lindsay asked as she folded both arms.
"Simple, his dad owned a boat and his dad is,-" Adam said then pointed to Don.
"Rodney Sparkman," Don said.
"Okay, I can understand why you think Joe did it, but just because he got the boat from his dad doesn't mean he did it," Shelton said then sat back.
"I think it was Andrew Bibs," Danny said as he looked at Don and Don scrunched his face.
"What makes you say it was Andrew?" Don asked.
"Since we started the re-interviews, he wasn't willing to talk to us the second time around. Once we gave him the new information we had, he denied he used the boat and car. We even asked him if he would mind giving us his DNA and he told us to get a warrant," Danny said.
"Once Don got the warrant to search the car, and boat, Adam and I processed it by using luminol and there appeared to be cleaned up blood in the boat. Nothing in the car but unidentified fingerprints on the steering wheel, handles of the car and on the radio buttons," Sheldon said as he sat forward.
"Wait a minute, this is Rodney's son we are talking about? Does Joe believe that his father died of a heart attack because of Dale's bullying?" Danny asked while Mac looked at his team.
"Yes," Adam, Jamie and Don said simultaneously.
"I have read your reports and I find interesting that if Joe was in Dale's apartment after he killed him, why didn't he take the computer?" Jo asked.
"The computer was in a locked cubicle and I wonder if maybe his laptop was out and Joe took it since I saw a wireless router where his desk was," Adam said.
"How do Joe and Andrew know each other," Mac asked as he looked at the notes.
"Unless Rodney introduced Joe to Andrew at a work function, I found no evidence that they knew each other," Sheldon said.
"I looked over the reports of the re-interviews and seems that some that we talked to again didn't like being asked again and even Andrew Bibs refused to answer questions a second time as did Michelle Acker," Mac said.
"I did find lots of interactions online from Dale to Rodney and Rodney to Dale, even after Rodney had died. Dale did suggest he thought he heard that Rodney had died but Rodney told him it was a heart attack and he retired from working. I believe Dale thought he was talking to Rodney but really was talking to Joe and continued to bully Joe. The last communication between those two was April 26th when Dale decided to meet Joe at Joe's apartment the next day in Tarrytown which is near the boating docks," Adam said.
"Dale must have wanted to meet with Rodney at the docks, not knowing that he was already dead, so Joe brought him to his apartment to kill him," Jamie said as she sat back and looked at Adam.
"I don't think he was killed in Joe's apartment." Adam said.
"You don't?" Don asked.
"No, in that last communication, Joe told Dale that his dad would come later but he wanted to spend time with him," Adam said.
"Let's finish the re-interviews in the next few days and have a meeting on Thursday to follow up on what we have talked about here," Mac said as he started to get up as did the team.
Everyone left to do interviews or process evidence.
June 7th at 4pm in Mac's office-
Jo, Danny, Lindsay, Don were in Mac's office talking about the case.
"So, what is the latest now?" Mac asked as he looked at them while seated.
"Nothing new," Jo said as she held her notes then looked at Don.
"I think we should have another talk with Joe and get search and arrest warrants," Don said.
"I'll call the DA for the warrants and we can go visit Joe tomorrow," Mac said as he picked up the phone while everyone got up.
June 8th 8am-
A few hours later Mac called Don to tell him that he had the warrants and to go meet him at Joe's apartment.
224 Martling Avenue-
Don, Mac, Lindsay, and several other officers arrived outside of Joe's apartment, then Don knocked on the door.
"NYPD, Joe Sparkman, open up. We have a warrant for your arrest," Don said. The officers drew their guns when they heard footsteps.
Joe opened the door but the chain stopped it from being opened all the way, "I'm being arrested?" Joe asked. "Do you have a warrant?"
"Yes, we do. Now open the door and we can show you," Mac said with the gun still in his hand.
"No, show me through the door," Joe said.
"Fine," Don said then handed him the paper.
Joe looked at it then said, "I'm innocent of murder." He opened the door and let the detectives in.
"Perhaps you want to explain yourself," Mac said as they walked near his couch and Don walked behind him. Mac called CSU to collect evidence.
"Put your hands behind your back," Don said and Joe put his hands behind his back.
"Who did I kill?" Joe asked while Don finished cuffing him.
"You are accused of killing Dale Cabrera," Mac said.
"What makes you say I killed him, just because I have his laptop on the table over there," Joe looked towards the table as did everyone else then continued. "Even if Dale had wished my father dead and was worth nothing, I didn't kill him."
"We'll tell you at the precinct," Don said as he read Joe his rights and the officers took him away.
"Looks like Adam was right about one thing, he had Dale's laptop all along," Lindsay said as CSU arrived and they started collecting evidence.
"Going to see what he has to say," Mac said as he and Don left for the precinct.
At the precinct-
Don went to go get Joe while Mac waited in the interview room then a few minutes later Don ran back to Mac.
"Mac, Joe's dead," Don said sadly.
"What? What happened?" Mac asked as they both went over to the holding cell.
"I don't know. He didn't complain about any pain, he was very quiet and the bus is already here but I think it's too late," Don said.
"We'll find out from Sid later today what happened," Mac said.
Several hours later at Mac's office-
Mac looked up when he heard a knock and Sid was allowed in.
"Got the results?" Mac asked.
"Massive heart attack, I don't think he would have survived if it happened in the hospital. Two of his arteries were blocked."
"Thanks, Sid," Mac said as Sid left and Jo walked in.
"Mac, here is the report on the Dale Cabrera case," Jo said as she handed him the file.
"That's a shame we didn't find out more about why he killed Dale. Lindsay said they found Dale's laptop but no cellphone of his was found. I think he could have just thrown it in the water," Jo said.
"Yeah, glad this case is over," Mac said as he signed the paper in the folder, closed it and put it on the desk in front of him.
"Christine called me and thanked me for helping you get her stuff back, she was very happy," Jo said.
"Yeah, that was a stroke of luck we caught that guy," Mac said.
"Good night, Mac," Jo said as she started for the door.
"Good night, Jo," Mac said as he got up and Jo walked out, headed towards her office.
Mac placed the folder on his closed case bin, got his phone out and dialed as he walked to the elevators.
"Hi, honey, I'm on my way to your restaurant, see you then," Mac put the phone in his pocket then got in the elevator to go to Christine's restaurant.
