8. Capture
'A police officer?' Nurse Joy asked, sounding amused.
Ryouga nodded. 'It's more…hands on than being a lawyer. And police have Pokemon partners.'
She smiled. 'Are you sure you don't have an invested interest in crime?'
He was sure. It probably came from all his grandparents' stories and the books that weren't Pokemon related. And reading all those crime cases and other stuff in library books.
'Just go on an adventure and find out what you want to do once you're all grown up.'
'Magby,' the Magby chirped in agreement.
'You would like that,' Ryouga muttered.
'It's worth a try,' Nurse Joy said. 'People learn a lot by travelling, and from what I hear, you're beyond the school's current standards. It wouldn't take you long to pass the required tests.'
That was jumping ahead in Ryouga's opinion, but the more he thought about it, the more appealing it sounded. Particularly when he discovered he'd run out of interesting books to read.
Well, it was bound to happen eventually.
'I'll just officially register this Magby as yours…and you might want to teach it an offensive move before you head out…'
Ryouga signed his name on the forms when she printed them off and shoved them under his nose. Nurse Joy was rather pushy, but it wasn't like he could say "no" at this point. He'd more or less accepted that. And was starting to adapt to that.
He didn't have to go on a journey. Or become a police officer. Or a lawyer. Those were all just options. But he did have to take that Magby. And to accept him mean to befriend him, and train him.
And something would grow out of that.
