I don't own South of Nowhere

Chapter 15

I was throwing the wood in the fire as Spencer was sitting on the wooden bench I built, drinking the beer I offered her. I leaned down lighting the fire, making sure it was lit and wouldn't go out. I sat down beside her, grabbing my beer.

"How did you end up here?" I looked over at her; I wanted to know about her.

"I was living in the city, and then I randomly decided to move here" I laughed and took a sip of my drink.

"Did that actually happen?" she shrugged.

"Kind of, I did randomly decide to move. My sister and I did come up here for a random road trip, and I remembered it when I decided to move"

"Why did you decide to randomly move?" she laughed, I looked at her funny.

"You have a lot of questions Ashley"

"I'm sorry" she shakes her head, smiling at me.

"I like it, and because my mom married a new person"

"Oh, do you like this new person?"

"No, I really don't. My mother had to choose between us and well she chose him" I reached over grabbing her hand as I saw her tighten her grip.

"I'm sorry that happen, what about your sister and father?"

"My sister is, well she is free spirted. My father is a doctor, and loves his job" I looked into the fire, and traced my thumb over her hand.

"What about you, tell me about your family" I let go of her hand; it was a habit of mine. I didn't enjoy talking about my family, and when I had to I get anxious.

"We don't have to Ashley"

"I left them"

"What do you mean?"

"My mother, siblings, and best friends are all in Huntsville" she nodded.

"You said you didn't have siblings" I looked down at my hands, was I really ready to talk about this.

"I lied, but I didn't really. I was adopted at a young at by my sister, she raised me as her own so all I know was that she was my mother"

"When did you find out the truth?"

"When I was around 8, and ever since I have hated them for lieing to me. After high school I finally found out why, they were just protecting me"

"Where was your birth mother?"

"Gone, she left me when I was three. My father didn't have a choice, he had to put me u for adoption. I did eventually go track her down and what I found made me angry"

"Why did you leave?"

"My father had passed away, and I needed to just be somewhere new "

"I'm sorry about your dad, was he a good man?"

"He was a great man" I got up from my seat to put more wood in the fire; I looked over and could see her through the flames.

"Do you ever see your family?"

"No, prefer not to" she nodded and didn't say anything. She got up from her spot walked over and held my hand.

We stood there by the fire watching the fire, while still holding hands. We talked more about each other, and I learnt Spencer has never seen a farm. I asked if she would like to come to my uncles with me that was she can see what a farm was like. Of course she said yes, and when the night ended we had fallen asleep on my couch.
