Chapter 6: Gun of the Dragon

(Asada Mansion)

Shino Asada is sitting on her room, reading a book. Aside from playing VRMMOs and hanging out with her friends, this is also her favorite pastime. Good thing is that it's the weekends so for her, it's a very good chance to spend a lot of time with her friends. Dancing together, Inves Games, online territory battles at ALO; well, she had a lot of free time for that.

But studying is also her priority as well. At the time she and her brother were reunited after so many years, she was enrolled into a prestigious school but even though she got a good education, most of the students in her class are such arrogant schmucks and she only made a few friends there. But nothing compares to Team Gaim, which she considered her second home.

As she looked into the window, Shino can't help to remember everything about her past. And it was a tragic one, unfortunately. An innocent young girl back then, little Shino saw a robber and tried to stop him. And she shoots the man 3 times; one in the abdomen, one in the chest, and one in the head, killing the culprit.

All little Shino did is to defend herself while using that gun. But sadly, that is not the case. When the time her mother saw her little daughter holding a gun, all she have to give was a horrified face. She was scared. Even her beloved brother is also a witness of that scene. A few moments later, the little girl saw something terrifying coming from the deceased crazed robber's body: a pool of blood. And that is the beginning of a never-ending nightmare.

The years have passed and she still had that kind of trauma. The only shoulder she could cry on is her older brother Minato… until the time he went overseas in order to help them. Despite of that, she is able to attend school and she had her own apartment. And because of her fear of guns, she was constantly being bullied by her schoolmates. Until her friend came in and comforted her. And his name is Kyoji Shinkawa, who introduced her to a VMMORPG called Gun Gale Online. For Shino, this is her chance since the game can be considered as a form of immersion therapy since no therapist would able to help her. As she began to play GGO, she established herself as one of the most powerful players in the game due to her deadly accuracy and precision, making herself as one dangerous sniper. That began her motto: "One Shot, One Kill."

However, she made a turning point in her life as she finally met Kazuto Kirigaya, also known as Kirito. They even worked together as a team during GGO's 'Bullet of Bullets' online tournament and at the same time, she also joined him on investigating and even taking down the culprit known as 'Death Gun', which is also a concept as well: a means to kill a player in the game AND in real life. But during the times that they were together, she grew closer to him but more as a friend. Despite of that, Kirito is the reason why she is able to overcome her fears. Not just that she helped him defeat Death Gun but they also won the Bullet of Bullets tournament. Until… Kyoji Shinkawa came into the fray.

"Kyoji-kun…" Shino frowned when she remembered him. The same friend who introduced her to GGO is the same friend who will… try to violate her and kill her. She saw the malice and the sheer obsession in his eyes, like a messed-up crazy maniac. Not just that, the psycho is also the brother of Shoichi Shinkawa, who is also known as XaXa back then in SAO and dons the 'Death Gun' moniker while Kyouji acts as one of his accomplices. The reason why he wants to kill the poor girl so that they can die together and in order to be reborn in a world like GGO. Man, that kid had his own issues.

This made Shino helpless. Then she mustered her own strength, trying to escape from Kyouji's clutches. A glimmer of hope came. And that is in the form of Kirito. Both of them stopped Kyouji and foiled the brothers' scheme. And a few days later, she was taken to the Dicey Café where she was introduced to Asuna and Rika, also known as Lisbeth. Then someone wants to meet her that she never expected: Kirito invited a woman named Sachie Oosawa, along with her 4-year old daughter named Mizue; she is just there to say 'thank you' for saving her life and at the same time, saving her own daughter since she was pregnant at the time of the incident.

Finally, she learned a lesson from Kirito: the very reason why she had that trauma is that she murdered that robber by shooting him. But she never knew about the people she saved back then thus when she found out about this, she is now able to forgive herself. She cried with tears of joy. And then, as they say, the rest is history.

Days have passed, and she was never been happier than this before. Not to mention that Shino joined Team Gaim and the Inves Games and there is her reunion with her brother Minato, who is also one of the top guys working for the Yggdrassil Corporation. She enrolled to a private school; that makes Shino a rich kid. Yet there are times she hid it to her friends because she fears that they may gave her an odd look. Despite of that, they still accept her for who she was, despite of her current status.

And now here she was: a girl who holds a belt and a lock with the shape of a grape. No, it's not about fruits but more like an armored warrior donned in grapes; and with a gun, of course. And it goes by the name of Kamen Rider Ryugen. For her, it's not just weird but it was also a dream come true for her. She wants to be a policewoman someday, but her brother saw her as being an intelligent young woman so she deserved to be part of Yggdrassil. But that doesn't matter to her right now. For her, she killed a robber unknowingly that she also saved people back then. But now, with her newfound power, she wants to give back to them by protecting them as well.

Shino folded her book and thought, "A few days and everything changed around me…" She prepares her Amusphere by turning it on and as she lay on the bed and loading ALO on the device, she called out…

"LINK START!"

And she went Full Dive, entering the world of a virtual reality game.

(Somewhere in ALfheim…)

Few minutes have passed and Sinon landed on the ground. She found herself in a forest. Well, neat for that she will spend her time fighting monsters for level grinding. And at last, she encountered not just one, but four of them. The beasts have four legs yet they're as ferocious as tigers. Sinon narrowed her eyes as she faced them. One of them charged on her and Sinon jumped and dons a kick and jumped away and as she floats in the air, she fires a barrage of arrows against the four beasts.

As she lands into the ground, she saw that they were still alive. Seeing their health bars, it says that Sinon gave them a significant damage.

"Oh, great. It's not enough, huh?" she muttered.

As the beasts growled on her, Sinon takes her time to look on her inventory to check if there are items to use. And her eyes widened on what she saw.

"W-wait! It can't be!" Shino said.

She suddenly jumped past the best at the time the beasts charged on her. And as she safely landed on the ground, she turned to the beasts then opened her inventory, and she took out….

…her Sengoku Driver and her Budou Lockseed.

"Alright, let's see how this works…" Sinon puts her Sengoku Driver on her waist as she wears it.

Sinon opened her Lockseed and called out,

"Henshin!"

"BUDOU!"

She heard a zip and as she looked up, she saw a Helheim Crack opened and a metal grape-like armor appears in the skies of ALO. Sinon was surprised a bit.

Focusing her attention to the monsters, she does her pose and places her Lockseed into the driver and locked it in.

"LOCK ON!"

The modern Chinese-style Erhu music played. As the monsters stared at her, Sinon sliced her Lockseed.

"HAI!"

The grapes dropped in her head as it formed a suit.

"BUDOU ARMS! RYU HOU! HA! HA! HA!"

Her armor folded as she transformed into Kamen Rider Ryugen. She looked at her hands in awe.

"I can't believe it, I can transform into a Rider here online!?" Ryugen wondered in awe. But she shrugged it off as she does her kung-fu like fighting stance to focus on the four beasts.

One monster takes the first charge, trying to attack Ryugen. Ryugen, however evades the beast and she kicked the other beast that followed, forcing the said beast away. The other two charged at her and she evades by doing a backflip jump. She landed on the ground and suddenly, her Budou Ryuhou appeared on her right hand.

"Wow! I can definitely use this!" Ryugen exclaimed.

Now it's her turn as Ryugen began to charge forward, doing run-and gun using her weapon. She fires at one of the beasts as she successfully hits the monster. The other beast charged at her and dodges yet sees an opening and fires, hitting the second beast. The third one tried to attack but Ryugen made a counter with a roundhouse kick, hitting the monster in the face and shoots the third beast. The fourth one went from behind and made a suprise attack on Ryugen hitting her in the chest as she tried to turn. She fell on the ground yet didn't faze out as she used it to her advantage. Lying on the ground flat, she aimed her Budou Ryuhou and fired at the two monsters in front of her; she got up quickly and when she sensed that the other two tried to attack her on both sides, she retaliated by kicking them both as well. She pulled the pull hammer and fired the monster at her left then to her right, destroying the two beasts. Now she sets her sights at the remaining two.

"It's the end." Ryugen declared. Then she sliced her Lockseed.

"HAI!"

"BUDOU SQUASH!"

Ryugen jumps into the air and purple energy were gathered at her right foot, in the form of grapes. She performed her Rider Kick finisher as she successfully made a perfect strike, killing the two remaining monsters, which causes an explosion.

The dust and flames were cleared. Ryugen breathed a sigh of relief. She checked her character stats and she saw the [Budou Ryuhou] in her weapon slot and also her armor as the [Rider Armor] set, as it was called. She closed her Lockseed, reverting back to Sinon. She took off her Lockseed and check on her inventory. It states the [Budou Lockseed] and the [Sengoku Driver]. And as she continued to stare on the lock, she clenched.

"I won't run away anymore. I can now fight my own battles. And best of all, with this power, I can protect my friends."

And Sinon pondered a thought: every time she enters ALO, she can use the game as her own training ground in order to hone her fighting skills that can be used in the real world. Being a Kamen Rider is not a game; it's something more than that and she was willing to put her life at risk for the sake of those who are close to her.

Suddenly, Sinon received an e-mail notification. And it was from Kirito.

"Sinon, meet me and Asuna at our home. Wanna join a quest with us? Because we wanna try something out." -Kirito

Seeing this, Sinon smiled as she replied Kirito's PM.

"Okay, got it." –Sinon

Sprouting her wings, the blue-haired Caith Sith flew off to her friends.

"Well, I know what Kirito is planning…." She smirked.

AN: And... that's it.

So this oneshot takes place before the events of Chapter 9 of "The Orange Swordsman", which it also features the debut of Akira (an OC) and Kotone/Philia (from the SAO games) as Riders; and also a few days after Ryugen's debut and her fight against Kaito/Baron.

And this is why I like Shino in this story more than any other. Readers, including myself read the first few chapters of Spartan719's story, they were fascinated of the author's choice of Shino as Ryugen. And many of them asked questions like "Woah, Shino as Ryugen?! Cool, but will she end up just like Micchy in canon Gaim?" "Is she going to betray Kirito, Asuna, and her brother, just like Mitsuzane betrayed Kouta?"

We all watched Gaim from start to finish, and even though the majority of fans hate Mitsuzane Kureshima as his character progresses, I still love the fact that how he develops during Gaim's run. At first we saw him as a hero, then an anti-hero who plays both sides and because of his obsession with his crush Mai, he vows to play as the villain. During his villainy, we saw how messed-up, cruel and insane he was. He never hesitates to betray everyone and willing to kill any one who stands in his way, even his own brother Takatora. But Kouta also took hard because he sees Micchy as his best friend; despite everything Micchy did, he still sees him as a friend. And we know that he's strucken with grief and regret when he saw Mai died and becomes the Woman of the Beginning and after being botched by Ryoma Sengoku. BUT... until the last episode where he finally redeemed himself; he became a hero once again, when he realized that he can make up for his own sins. After he heard Kouta's parting words, everyone (from Zack, Oren, Jonnouchi, and even his brother Takatora) greet him. Fans tried to compare him to Faiz's Masato Kusaka but unlike Kusaka, Micchy got his redemption while Kusaka died being a jerk from start to end.

Now we go to Shino/Sinon. Her life was messed up due to her hoplophobia yet she overcome her fear due to Kirito. And in this story, she's not only transforms as the gun-wielding Grape Rider yet she is also intelligent and can be a bit manipulative sometimes. As the author stated, she can use every questionable plan or method for the sake of protecting her friends. Like I stated earlier, those are the reasons why I dub her as the 'Anti-Micchy' in Spartan719's story. And I'm very positive that the sibling bond between her and Minato will be developed as well. To be honest, Shino is also one of the best things in this fanfic. And I'm looking forward for her development as well.
