My body was numb as I woke up. Little by little my consciousness returned to me. With a few moments to let my lungs relish in the fact that they could taste air, I took the time to think. I couldn't remember what had happened. I got mad and then everything kind of went black. The next thing that happened was… that purple spirit. Vincent.
I couldn't think too clearly. Everything was running together.
A splash of red slipped into my mind, breaking free my memory. The vivid sight of teeth sinking in skin, crushing through skull spewing out gray matter from beneath. I jerked up, leaning to the side and vomiting.
"Mikey!" She was at my side, hands at my shoulders. "Hey, you're okay. You're okay now."
Even knowing it'd hurt, I looked up from where I sat on the ground. Just a mere few feet from me lay a lifeless mound covered with several blankets. Blood had already soaked through the fabrics; the ground soaked a dark brown from gore.
I hurled again, gagging several times on nothing before puking once more.
"Mikey?" A figure blocked my view of what was still my own flesh and blood, dead brother. "Are you you right now?" Mike crouched down in front of me, head tilted to the side. The moment his eyes met mine he smiled and stood back up. "You are. Good. You still feel that kid inside you?"
I was trying to catch up on things still mentally. I had awoken from being possessed the moment that I attacked Vincent who was possessing my boss.
The thought had me twitched and attempt to stand only to fall back on my ass. "Where's Joe?!" I squeaked when a sharp pain ran up my arm. I remembered falling and dislocating it and reminded myself not to jostle it too much. "What happened to Joe?"
"He's fine. Woke up ten minutes before you." Mike offered his hand. "The kid," he said again as he helped me up, "Can you still feel him?"
I waited. I didn't feel empty, but I couldn't quite say I knew the kid's spirit was still within me.
Hunter.
That answered it. "Hunter… he's still here."
They stared at me.
"Hunter?" Mike blinked several times at me. "His name's Hunter?"
I nodded. "It's what I just heard."
Mike's face paled and he stepped away. I would have asked what was wrong but I noticed Riley get away from me as well. I turned back to Mike to ask what was wrong only to see a black figure out of the corner of my eye.
I watched the oozing black cloud rise up from somewhere behind me. It slowly took a human shape with brown orbs taking their rightful place within his eyes. Seeing the soft color had me relax as did the black mist slipping back over his face to show the child's true face. The one I already came to know. A soft, light skinned face pale from blood loss. His throat was still slit from death but no blood flowed.
"Hey look!" Riley pointed out the other animatronics.
Each of them had a glowing spirit standing on them.
By Foxy was that small child I'd seen be shoved inside the animatronic, Andrew. His body was far beyond repair, once caramel skin now filled with bruised and bloody holes and once sparkling hazel eyes now a dull shade of brown. His reddish hair a complete mess atop his head. The boy looked very tired.
Sitting on Chica's arm sat a petite black girl, Shauna, stomach shallow and empty of all organs. Her neck, though dark skinned, showed a very red mark that edged deep ridges around the entirety of it. Brown eyes not as full of life as she sat there with a smile on her face, kicking her feet from where she sat. She too seemed tired, but very happy.
Over with Bonnie stood the taller girl with long dirty blonde hair, Heather. Her chest was caved in, ridged bones jutting out from beneath the bruised surface. Even with the pained body she smiled brightly at us with dead, brown eyes.
Finally, standing beside the still standing Freddy was the older boy, Mike's brother, Jacob. He was extremely pale, nearly white in appearance in contrast to his dark hair and eyes. His expression was less than pleased, and still there was an air of happiness about him.
"What's going on?" I heard Joseph ask as he creepily appeared behind me like a damn ninja.
I refrained from snapping at him about it but instead turned to the bleach blond boy hovering just above my shoulder. "Hunter? What's happening?"
His brown eyes found mine and a soft smile crossed his lips. We have no reason to be here. The bad man paid for what he did to us. We don't need to be angry anymore.
I blinked. "What? So… you're passing on?"
Yes. We can be at peace. Hunter's smile became much more appreciative then, eyes closing as he said, Thank you, Mikey. His entire being began to sparkle and, like dust, his form fluttered away.
The invisible wind picked up the rest of the children carrying them into the fading night. Jacob's form was the last to go, nodding and giving a big grin to Mike before the wind pushed him off into the afterlife.
Everyone watched in silence as the particles of glowing light quickly faded into the night. It was a beautiful sight watching the orbs seemingly mix in with the glow of the still fading stars.
I lowered my sight first and about choked on what was standing before me. Blonde hair and dull, green eyes. A face that was no longer truly there and yet had found a way to present itself. The form was faded much more than the rest of him – not being as solid an apparition as the kids – but it was there and staring at me.
"…David?" I muttered, choking on my voice having already been moved by watching the children pass on.
The other two knowing my brother looked immediately.
My brother didn't say anything. He just stared at us, blinking his confusion. The boy then looked back to where the other spirits had gone and back at me. His eyes were pleading, asking me what he should do.
I didn't know what he was seeing, but from his actions I figured it was 'the light'. Out of curiosity I reached out laying a hand on my brother's shoulder. It made solid contact having the both of us jerk away from each other. I bit my lip and pulled the soul of my brother close, embracing what little I could of him with everything I had. Tears burned in my eyes that only so much blinking could hold back. I tried to breathe, sniffling quietly into the air.
Knowing I was full on crying now, I stood back and held my brother at arm's length. There was no way he could come back even if I wanted him to. "Listen to me, ya dipshit. You see that light over there?"
David looked back, then at me once more nodding and mouthing the word "Yes".
"Good," my voice cracked terribly. "G-Good. Now I want you to go running into that light. Got me?"
His hand came up to mine, a cold feeling as his fingers closed around my arm and he shook his head at me attempting to yell something I couldn't hear.
"Dave, I can't hear you. Now fucking listen… Please. Go into that fucking light and tell mom and dad I love them a-and I'm sorry that you…" My voice broke again and I just started laughing through it all. "Just fucking go. I can't do this shit," I laughed, tears running down my face and needing to wipe my running nose on my arm. Then I smiled at his worried expression. "You know I'll see you again. Hell, I know that and I'm the one crying here!"
Riley's hand found my arm, lying just where David's hand was. "And tell your parents I'll be taking good care of your bro. Got it?"
That seemed to have him satisfied as he gave me one last tight hug before his entire body glowed a solid white and, same as the kids, he was carried away like dust particles on an invisible wind.
With the moment gone, Mike cut in, "I wish I'd of told Jake the same thing. Except he needs to punch my mom for killing herself."
We all met inside, Joseph heated up a pot of water and made everyone hot coco. Riley popped a few bags of popcorn and threw a funny movie in to calm everyone's nerves. We all sat around in the break room sipping coco and watching the movie while waiting for popcorn. With everything that had gone on, the hot chocolate really hit the spot. Plus I always heard that women eat chocolate when they're depressed or whatever so I guessed it worked the same for men. Having lost my brother after all of this really set me back.
"You doing okay?" Riley plopped down beside me again, bowl of popcorn in her lap.
"I think we should ask Joseph that. He's the one who got used like a meat suit."
"So did you."
"At least my spirit was good." I sipped my coco, burning my tongue for the third time and not caring. I wasn't in the mood for food so I let Riley have at the bowl by herself. "What about you?"
"I'm fine." Riley shoved popcorn in her face. "Ahm werm abert yeh," she said around food.
"You're… I'm sorry you're what?"
She swallowed it. "I said: I'm worried about you." The redhead reached over and tapped my arm receiving a loud yelp from me. "You need to see a doctor."
"I WILL! DON'T TOUCH IT!" I held my arm, coco forgotten as I sloshed most of it onto the floor. "Why do you have to go and touch EVERYTHING?!"
"Because I can." She poked my other arm.
"STOP!"
"Does this one hurt too?" she asked, pulling away when she thought she heart me.
"No! Just stop poking me!"
"Why don't you two just tie the knot already?" Mike sat down on the couch with us, having gotten a second cup of hot chocolate.
We both stared at him.
"You act like two little kids in love. You know, when a boy throws stuff at a girl he likes. That kind of shit." Mike blew on his drink. "Just go and get married already."
"Wait…" Riley started.
"No, we're not together," I finished.
Joseph put his bowl of popcorn on the couch between him and Mike. "I was waiting for someone else to notice. I've been waiting for the two of you to get together for a while." Odd statement coming from him, but whatever.
"So they aren't even together?" Mike asked.
"No. They're just good friends." Joseph's gray-blue eyes found mine. "But I see they like each other more than that."
My face felt hot. "Can we stop talking about relationship stuff? Please?" I wanted to mention that I'd just lost my brother but just the thought of it had a knot form in my stomach.
Riley glanced my way. "Why?"
And then the hot feeling grew into a forest fire. "Huh?"
Riley smiled. "Why can't we talk about you and me? I like that topic."
And now the forest fire became the sun. "Wh-wha-wheh-beeh HUH?"
"I know you probably don't want to be going to your apartment too much since… you know… your brother and all, so why don't you move in with me? We can talk more about you and me and some… other stuff."
There was nothing in the universe to describe the heat in my face now. "Eeeeeeeeeh…."
"I'll take that as a yes! But before we move your stuff to my apartment, let's get you to the hospital!" And Riley grabbed my arm, hard.
"AH-! DAMMIT, RILEY!" I dropped my drink and ran after the girl when she left the room and out to her car. "GET BACK HERE!"
Riley laughed at me. "I LOVE YOU TOO, MIKEY!" she screamed to the heavens making me stop.
"I… Heh… I love you too," I muttered, giving chase again out to her car.
