"Your mom would be so proud." Raven said while looking at Clarke's work on Monty. She began to scrub off the dried blood and dirt from his skin. Then she replaced his bandages with a clean one.
She gave her a small smile. "He's going to be fine but we're running out of seaweed." Clarke said. "We need to get more." She had used almost all of their supplies. They needed to stock up just in case they had more injuries.
Raven nodded. They were lucky Clarke was good at this. She was the daughter of the Chief Medical Officer after all. A princess among criminals. She had no idea what crime she committed that got her sent to prison.
"I can get them." Octavia offered. She looked at everybody in the room. "I can take a couple of guys with me." She had been waiting for opportunities to get out. This was it.
Bellamy didn't like the sound of that. "It's too dangerous." He shook his head. "You stay. The others can go."
"I'm not a kid anymore Bellamy. Stop trying to protect me." Octavia grew tired of Bellamy's protection. He even warned Atom to stay away from her. "You can't expect me to just sit around here doing nothing. I want to do my part too. Besides it's not fair to the others." She didn't want to get special treatment.
"There are other things you can do here at the camp." Bellamy shot his sister an apprehensive look. "Like-"
"I'll go with you." Jasper said while crossing his arms. He looked down at Monty who was asleep. He loved Monty like a brother. That was the least he could do. "And Octavia's right. It's not fair to us."
"Are you sure about this?" Bellamy gave him a once over. He wasn't going to let his sister go with someone who just yesterday looked like he almost had a nervous breakdown. Jasper nodded but still he wasn't convincing enough.
"I'll go with them." Murphy said shrugging his shoulders. "It's going to be fine." He reassured Bellamy he could take care of his sister. "We'll bring extra ammo if it makes you feel better. Besides Jasper here can shoot." He put his hand around Jasper's shoulder and pulled him to his side. Jasper gave them a forced smile.
"Okay but pull back at first sign of trouble. Hear me?" He warned.
"Monty needs to rest." Clarke frowned at Bellamy. There was no need to argue in front of the wounded. The guy needed to chill, seriously. "I'm done here." She said putting the linens in her hand on the table and walked out.
"Take Monroe and Miles with you." He told Murphy. "I need Miller and Sterling here at the post." Murphy nodded. Everybody walked out leaving Jasper alone in the room.
"You're going to be alright." He whispered as he bent down to kiss Monty on the forehead before going out.
"You need to see who now?" Octavia asked when she came over to sit next to Clarke, elbows on her knees.
"What?" Clarke was snapped back to reality when Octavia touched her shoulder. She didn't hear her coming.
"You said you need to see someone." Octavia repeated her words. "and you were smiling. Or maybe I should ask 'who's on your mind?'" She smirked crossing her arms. "So?"
Clarke shook her head and gave Octavia a frown. "It's nothing important." She had trouble making up excuses. "So when are you guys leaving?" Clarke asked attempting to change the subject. She didn't need Octavia to get more suspicious than she already was.
"In a bit. They're gathering stuff." She answered. "How much do you need?" She was thinking to get a good bath when she got there. She didn't smell like herself anymore.
"Get as much as you can." Clarke said to Octavia who was already up on her feet. "Thanks."
"Lexa?" Clarke tried not to yell too loud. She would be in trouble if the grounders were around. At first she didn't know how to find Lexa. All this time it was Lexa who found her. The girl did a good job at stalking her. So Clarke decided to go to where they met the second time. It was quite far from the camp. Besides she had to be careful not to bump into Octavia's group. They had left half an hour ago.
If she didn't already promised Lexa she wouldn't have come. She had to sneak out and the others were busy with other things too which helped. She would go to get the seaweed herself but she thought she wouldn't get another opportunity to sneak out.
"Lexa?" She called again. She glanced at her watch and looked around. She couldn't stay too long or Bellamy would notice that she was gone. She leaned against a tree and crossed her arms. "I'll wait for another fifteen minutes. If she's not here by then." She sighed and laid her head back.
Her mind had began to wander when an arrow hit the tree just a few inches from her head. She ducked her head down in response and then looked up. "What the hell?" She quickly turned and found Lexa was standing a few feet away from her. "Are you trying to kill me?!" She hissed while walking towards Lexa who just stood there waiting with her hip cocked to one side. "I know you're good with that thing but what if you missed!?"
"That's for yesterday but I still think you need to be punished." Lexa spoke with amusement in her eyes. "You were daydreaming when you should have been more alert to your surrounding." She put her hands behind her. She was able to relax when she was with Clarke.
Clarke was annoyed. "Don't pull something like that again. Lucky for you I didn't shoot." She shook her head. "Unbelievable!" She gave a quick glance back at the tree. It was only a few inches from her head!
She took a moment to study Lexa. Is she mad at me? She doesn't look like it but since she doesn't speak English there's no way she could have told me if she was. Well she looked amused just a second ago but now she's just Lexa. This girl needs to learn how to show her feelings. I can't tell what's she's thinking, Clarke thought. She couldn't read the expression on her face.
"Okay. You don't look mad but maybe you are but you don't show it. But if you're angry then I think you should after all that happened yesterday." Clarke took a deep breath. "But before you go all crazy grounder style on me I can explain why I did what I did."
"Hodnes laik kwelnes (love is weakness)." Lexa said in response. She knew what Clarke was going to say.
Clarke sighed. "Whatever that means. Look, I know I said I was teasing you but I wasn't. I didn't mean to embarrass you." Lexa tilted her head a little but her face hadn't changed. Clarke couldn't tell if she believed her.
"I wanted to know if you have feelings." Clarke hesitated. "I mean I was wondering if you have feelings for me." She pointed to her chest and saw Lexa's eyebrow raised. She scratched her head. "How should I say this? I am so going to screw this up."
She let out a heavy breath. "What's the point explaining it to you anyway? You don't even understand me." She was thinking. If she couldn't tell Lexa about her feelings then why didn't she just show her? Even if she was a grounder it wouldn't be too hard to figure out if someone kissed you it meant that she liked you. She glanced over at Lexa.
Clarke hesitated. It was now or never. "I'm going to do something but I hope you're not going to be mad at me. Okay?" She swallowed a lump in her throat then after counting one to ten in her head and gained enough confidence she took a step forward while her eyes never left Lexa's. Lexa stood her ground.
"I like you. Ever since we first met." Clarke chose her words carefully while taking another step forward. They were just a few inches away from each other. She raised her hand to pull Lexa closer to her. Wait, what if yesterday was just one time only thing? Clarke thought. She stopped her hand mid-air.
"Heda!" The young couple immediately turned their heads to see Indra was standing with her sword in her hand ready to charge at them. Gustus was standing next to her fixing an arrow to his bow. He pulled up the bow and was ready to shoot it.
Clarke's eyes widen at the sight of the two grounders fiercely staring at her. She quickly reached for her gun and pointed it at the woman then the man. She decided to shoot the man first as his arrow would likely kill her in a matter of second if he aimed right.
"Wan op! (Die!)" With the sword held in a fighting stance in front of her, Indra shouted and charged forward.
"Jomp em op en yu jomp ai op! (You attack her and you attack me!)" Lexa had stepped in front of Clarke when she saw Indra and Gustus were about to strike. Her face was tensed. They weren't supposed to be here. They were following her!
Both Indra and Gustus hesitated. "Heda?!"
"Um. I've got to say that's kinda hot." Clarke said without thinking as she watched the Grounder's warrior slowly put her sword down. She wasn't surprise that Lexa stood up for her now that they were friends. "They listen to you. I'm impressed."
Lexa heard her but said nothing. She wanted to keep her secret as long as she could from Clarke. She trusted her but not her people. Indra and Gustus looked at her with a puzzled frown.
Gustus asked, 'Is she threatening you Heda?' His voice was strained. Indra waited for an answer. Her eyes were checking the area. She would kill any Sky People on sight.
"No." Lexa shook her head but Gustus took a step forward. Clarke took a step back while tugging on Lexa's shirt to follow her but Lexa wasn't moving. "Lexa I think we should go." Clarke bent forward to whisper at Lexa's ear. At this rate she was worried about Lexa's safety. She had been found having a connection with them.
'I'm begging you Heda. Let me kill her!" Indra begged. Her hand was itching to use her sword to cut off Skaikru's head.
"What is happening here?" Clarke whispered to Lexa. She thought they should run. She really needed to learn the Grounders language. She hated to be in a conversation she didn't understand. "Wait. Are they like your family or something? They're not your parents are they?" She asked. Suddenly that thought crossed her mind. She didn't see the resemblance between them but they listened to Lexa. So they must knew her. She could be adopted or something. Who knew.
"Nomon? (Mother?)" Lexa said suddenly while looking at Indra and then took her eyes over to Gustus. "Nontu? (Father?)" Lexa burst out laughing. She thought that was funny. Her parents were killed by the Reapers when she was still young. Anya took her in and made her her second-in-command. Anya was also her mentor.
Gustus and Indra were left even more confused seeing their Commander in such a jolly mood. Something that they rarely see. She was laughing. It was odd and also alarming. 'Heda.' They both said almost instantaneously. They were wondering what was going on.
"Why are you laughing?" Clarke whispered again, frowned at the sudden change. She couldn't find a reason why. "Look. Just tell your parents I'm not going to harm you." She told her. "We're kinda friends now." She didn't know if they were friends but after all that happened she assumed they were. Hell Lexa was ready to take a bullet for her.
Lexa laughed again. This time a little bit louder. She hadn't laughed this hard for a long time. Gustus was scratching his head while Indra was speechless. She was thinking Sky People did something to Lexa. Clarke rolled her eyes. As much as she loved hearing Lexa's laugh she didn't think this was the right time for Lexa to be having a laugh.
'Heda If she harms you in any way I'm going to end her life!' Indra threatened but Lexa wasn't listening. She wasn't about to explain what was going on here to them. She had ordered them to only speak Trigedasleng around Sky People. So Indra and Gustus had to restrain themselves.
After her laughter died down she said, "Shof op Indra (be quiet Indra)." Lexa turned to Clarke while introducing her to her people. "Em laik Klok kom Skaikru (She's Clarke of the Sky People)." Clarke frowned at Lexa.
Indra had no idea how the Commander knew this Sky People in front of her. She had a hard time believing the Commander would befriend the outsiders. Gustus hadn't said a word but he never took his eyes off Clarke.
"Lexa. Your mom looks kinda angry." Clarke gulped and looked around. If there was more of them she would be dead. She had her gun firmly in her grip ready to defend herself if she needed to. "She almost looks as pissed as my mom when she found out I had a thing with Wells." Clarke kept talking because Lexa wasn't being helpful with explanation so she assumed she was right. "Well she liked Wells but I was supposed to focus on my studies. I almost failed my exam. She was pissed."
'Heda.' Indra was still unconvinced. She tried to reason with the Commander. 'The Sky People are our enemy. We shouldn't believe them.'
"Why is she keep calling you Heda? I thought your name was Lexa?" Clarke asked. "Is it some kind of a pet name or something?" She had to ask.
"Lexa." Lexa corrected her. She didn't know what a pet name was but she wasn't going to ask.
Indra wasn't feeling all too friendly about what she was seeing and neither did Gustus. They had that 'touch her I kill you' written all over their faces which made Clarke even more uncomfortable.
"Okay. I'm sorry for interrupting. Please continue." Clarke gestured for them to continue what they were discussing about and backed up a step but Indra and Gustus stepped forward when they thought Clarke was going to run.
"Hod op! (Stop!)" Lexa said stopping the general and her guard. "Gonot oso (Leave us)." Clarke assumed Lexa told her parents that she wasn't going to harm her or whatever because her father didn't look too pissed and her mother didn't look too eager to kill her now. They looked confused. That was a relief.
"Another day in the woods." Clarke murmured. She hoped to get out of this alive. She knew Lexa was on her side but being surrounded by these Grounders didn't exactly give her warm feelings.
"Meet me in my tent tonight." Lexa ordered. Her voice held a firm tone. That also meant that it was the end of their conversation. Both Gustus and Indra had no choice than to retreat and waiting until tonight to get explanation.
"I hope I didn't give you any trouble." Clarke said as they both watched as Indra put her sword back into its scabbard and Gustus slowly put his arrow back into its bag.
"Are you sure Heda?" Gustus asked one last time and Lexa nodded.
"You heard what the Commander said." Gustus said to Indra and left. He figured the Sky Person wasn't a match to his Commander. She could take her down in a second. Indra nodded then reluctantly followed Gustus towards the woods.
"Have you seen Clarke?" Bellamy asked Atom. He looked around but saw no sign of her. She wasn't in her tent.
Atom shook his head. "Maybe she's with Raven." He suggested. "Trouble again I assume." He murmured as Bellamy left to find Raven in the dropship.
"Clarke!" Bellamy yelled as he walked in but stopped dead at his track. "Guys! We have plenty of time for that!" He said angrily while shaking his head. He looked away.
Raven and Finn were going at it on the table. "Last time I check we're at war and almost died on the Ark. So no. We don't have plenty of time." Finn answered, clearly not happy they were interrupted. He looked to his side while his arms covering Raven under him.
"Then fix the damn radio so that they can send the guards down."
"We would have been in contact with them if it wasn't because of you who ruined the radio in the first place!" Raven wasn't having it. Bellamy couldn't just barged in demanding this and that and talked like it was her fault. There wasn't much she could do to fix the radio. He should blame himself for it.
Finn was disgusted. "Haven't you ever heard of knocking?" His arms still covering Raven waiting for Bellamy to leave.
"This isn't your freaking tent. If you don't want people walk in when you're at it then do it in your own tent." Bellamy said. "Where's Clarke?" He asked ignoring the awkwardness in the room.
"She's not here. Haven't seen her. We're kind of busy." Finn answered. Bellamy walked out before Raven could say anything else.
"What's up with him?" She finally said, annoyed.
"Who knows." Finn answered lazily. "Come on. You need to work on the radio." He got up off the table and reached for his shirt and Raven's on the floor.
"Bellamy is a real party pooper." Raven said as Finn handed her her shirt. She heard people called him that.
Finn laughed. "He is but he's got a point." He put his boots on and bent to plant a kiss on Raven's lips. "We've got plenty of time for this. I can certainly find time for this."
"If you say so." Raven return the kiss and they started again.
"Finn let's go. We're going to find Clarke." Bellamy said as he stood at the door. He was glad they both had their clothes on.
"Why? Is she missing?" Raven asked.
"She's not here at the camp. I'm sure she didn't go with Octavia's group. I think the grounders took her." He had a feeling Clarke was in trouble although he had no proof.
"What? How? Are you sure?" This time Finn spoke.
"I think so." He looked worried. Clarke wouldn't leave the camp without telling anyone. Something must have happened. "I knew it was a mistake bringing that grounder girl here in the first place!"
"We don't know if it was her." Finn said.
"Shouldn't we wait? Maybe she just take a walk?" Raven suggested. Clarke was still here this morning. She hadn't gone that long.
"No. We're going to look for her." Bellamy took no for an answer. "If you want to go then let's go." He didn't wait for Finn to answer before going out.
"I'll see you later." Finn kissed Raven on her cheek and went off to find Bellamy.
They were walking back to camp when Octavia thought she saw Clarke but she was alone. She walked slower and made sure the others didn't notice. They were walking quietly and she thought they wouldn't notice if she was gone.
"What are you doing there alone?" Octavia asked herself when she was sure it was Clarke. She looked like she was talking to someone but she couldn't see who it was because the trees were blocking her view.
"Hey Clarke." Octavia called her when she was close enough.
Clarke was surprised to see Octavia approaching her. She held out her hand in front of her to tell Octavia to stop but was too late when she saw Octavia had noticed of Lexa's presence.
"What's going on over here?" Octavia pointed her gun towards Lexa. "Clarke? What are you doing? Did she hurt you?" She asked. "I should call the others. They shouldn't be too far."
"Wait! Octavia don't!" Clarke stopped her before she could yell.
"Why not?" She asked confused while looking at Lexa carefully studying her. "Hey! Isn't she the grounder you brought home the other day?" She finally remembered. No wonder she thought she had seen the girl before but she couldn't place where she had seen her face.
Clarke nodded. "Yeah it was her." She licked her lips. Today was really not a good day. First it was Lexa's parents and now it was Octavia. Why did they have to be here interrupting all her plans? She glanced over to Lexa who had a knife in her hand. That's not good, she thought. If Lexa threw that knife at Octavia she would be dead without even seeing it coming.
"Lexa I got this." She turned to make sure Lexa knew she could handle this. "I trusted you with your people and you have to trust me to handle mine." Clarke was referring to Indra and Gustus.
Lexa nodded but wouldn't put her knife away. She didn't trust Sky People except Clarke. Clarke nodded and turned back to face Octavia who was anxiously waiting for her explanation.
"Look. It's not like what you think." Clarke stepped backward to stand next to Lexa. "She's not going to hurt us."
"She's a grounder." Octavia said. "They're our enemy."
"Not her." Clarke shook her head. "At least that I can be sure of." She glanced over to Lexa.
"What are you saying?" Octavia asked.
"We're friends." Clarke blurted out. "Ever since the first day." Octavia frowned, not following. "Okay. This isn't exactly the first time we meet." She had to find a way to convince Octavia.
"Wait." Octavia remembered something. "This morning I overheard you said you're meeting someone." She looked at Clarke waiting for confirmation. "Before we left for the seaweed."
Clarke nodded. "Yeah."
"So you sent us to get the seaweed so you can sneak out to see her?" Octavia gestured with her gun at Lexa.
Clarke nodded. "Yeah but I wasn't lying when I said we're running out of seaweed. I would've gone myself but I needed an opportunity and it was just a perfect timing."
Octavia chuckled. "Clever." She was impressed. Nobody would see that coming. "But I'm still not convinced she's not going to hurt us. Look at her." She gestured with her head. Clarke turned to look at Lexa.
"Well you're pointing your gun at her." Clarke rolled her eyes. "Lower your gun and everything will be fine." Octavia didn't move but quietly studying both of them.
"Wait a minute! I know that look!" Octavia said looking at Lexa and Clarke exchanging looks.
"What look?" Clarke asked trying to look normal.
"The way you two look at each other!" Octavia figured it out. "That- that heart eyes she's giving you and you-" Clarke could see Octavia's jaw dropped. She sighed. Octavia wasn't as innocent as she thought she was. This one was clever.
"Are you out of your mind?!" Octavia didn't believe it. "She's a grounder Clarke!" She glanced over to Lexa whose face showed no emotion at all. "Look if you really need to get it out of your system we have plenty of cute boys and girls at the camp." She started to remember the names. "Harper is cool. Monroe is kind of small but she's cute. Fox too and Miles is already signed up. I could name you a few others if they're not your type. Hell I'm pretty cute too!"
"Octavia!" Clarke almost shouted. She just wished for her to stop. She rubbed her temple. She didn't know which was worst: the grounders found them out or Octavia's reaction and her suggestions.
"I can see your chemistry or whatever flowing around you guys since she was held back at the camp. I know she's cute and all but you really need to think of your safety and us." That was an honest advice from someone who just recently had her first love.
"I know this is hard to believe but really she's not like the other grounders." Clarke tried to explain. "And I need a favor." She said slowly and bit her lower lips.
Octavia rolled her eyes. "I know. You're going to ask me to keep your little secret here." She guessed and she was right when Clarke nodded confirming her theory. "I don't know Clarke. This is big. I think they ought to know too."
"I'll tell the others when the time is right." Clarke said. She wanted to tell her that her relationship with Lexa was her own business but held that thought. It wouldn't do them any good arguing about it.
"I hope you know what you're doing." Octavia lowered her gun and glanced over to Lexa who was quiet the whole time. She had put the knife at her waist when she was sure Octavia wasn't a threat anymore.
"Lexa this is Octavia. Octavia this is Lexa." Clarke introduced them. None of them return greetings but considering they both had kept their weapons away she thought this was a good start.
"I hate that we got interrupted." Clarke said to Lexa. Octavia rolled her eyes when she assumed Clarke was talking about her. "I wish I could explain everything to you but I really think I should go. You should to." Octavia cleared her throat that made Clarke glanced over at her. "I don't want my people to get suspicious."
"Sha (Yes)." Lexa said.
"What did she say?" Octavia asked curious. She was never too close to a grounder before to hear them spoke.
Clarke shook her head. "I have no idea."
"Uh you have no idea?" She blinked rapidly, staring at Clarke. "Then how did you two-?"
Clarke chuckled. "Well that's kind of our thing." Then turned to smile at Lexa who smiled back.
Octavia shook her head. She couldn't believe her eyes. This is more serious that I thought, she said to herself.
"I should go. I'll see you." Clarke said.
"Nodotaim (another time)." Lexa nodded.
"She talks like she understands you." Octavia said. "Well at least you know her name."
"I know right?" Clarke smiled at Lexa then turned to walk back to their camp. She glanced over her shoulder and waved. Lexa watched as Clarke and her friend walked through the woods before going back to her camp. She had her own problem to attend to.
NOTE: I hope this chapter isn't too shabby :) I apologise for late updates. Next update will be end of this week and it won't be the last chapter.
