I'm done with my last final! Now I got two free weeks of stuff! I'm gonna do all the writing! I'll write game reviews (Or more like reflections. It's a personal thing, so I haven;t decided.) I'll write fanfiction! I'll try to write a play or two. I'm excited! Are you excited?
Lucina had never been on a date before.
Granted, none of the children from the future had ever really had time for dating before. The apocalyptic wasteland didn't exactly invoke a romantic mood. A war zone, comparatively, was much more romantic.
After they had come back in time, romances were popping up everywhere. Owain and Noire had recently become an item, and Gerome had asked Cynthia out while Chrom was distracted with the whole situation with her and Robin.
She was surprised at how few people were surprised when Robin asked her out. Sure, some of the older Shepherds made jokes about Chrom's reaction, but they themselves weren't surprised. In fact, they were actually expecting it, making bets on when it would happen.
They might have been ready, but Lucina couldn't say the same.
She sat on her bedroll, looking through her supplies. Since she was used to being in the middle of a way, she always packed lightly and practically. The main reason she continued to wear the Marth outfit was both out of practicality and, in her opinion, style. A few of the other women in the camp questioned her on this, but a trip to the market proved that the Marth outfit was actually one of her better attempts at styling herself.
Since it was really the only outfit she had, Lucina figured it was good enough for the date. Robin didn't exactly strike her as a picky person.
She was just about to leave her tent and meet with Robin when Cynthia came barreling in, tackling her to the ground. Noire and Kjelle followed her, carrying various different boxes. Sumia followed closely behind.
"What the devil are you-?!" Lucina exclaimed, before Cynthia shushed her, putting a finger on her lips..
"Look, Lucy, me and Severa don't really get along." Cynthia said. "However, we swore -PINKY swore- that you would be ready for your first date, when that day came."
"They apparently planned out all of our outfits for each of us, years ago." Kjelle commented. "I'm not really a part of this. I'm just carrying the boxes."
"I managed to scare her off, before I started going out with Owain…" Noire commented shyly.
"Well, you can dress yourself, Noire." Cynthia explained. "You're really not gonna dress up any more than that?"
"...Didn't you go on your first date with Gerome in armor?" Lucina asked.
"Well, I'm not as girly as I used to be." Cynthia replied. "Besides, we were going on Minerva, so it was safer. Also, it was my fancy armor, and he wore his fancy mask." Kjelle had finished setting up a chain in the center of the tent. Cynthia dragged Lucina over and sat her down.
Lucina looked over at Noire, who was doing something to her arms. "...Did you just tie me down?!"
"You get fidgety." Noire responded.
"Mother! Are you really going to let them do this?" Lucina asked her mother, who was looking through another box.
"I'm sorry, dear, but you are a bit...inexperienced when it comes to this kind of stuff." Sumia admitted. "This won't take long, I assure you."
"OK." Cynthia took out a brush, holding it menacingly at Lucina. "After this, while you're on your date, we gotta do something manly, to balance out the next hour of girlyness."
"Wanna beat up Inigo?" Kjelle asked.
"Perfect." Cynthia replied, nodding at her. "Now, lets get to work."
"Alright, men." Robin said to the group assembled in his tent. "This is my first time actually doing this whole 'date' thing, so I figured I needed a little advice. I couldn't ask Chrom, since my date is his daughter, and I'm sure his best advice would be to have him third-wheel us. Since that's the case, I've called upon you four, as my other closest guy friends in the Shepherds, to help me prepare myself for the night. Now, what do you think of this?" He presented his outfit to the four men.
"...I think it's kinda sad we're your closest friends in the Shepherds." Stahl said.
"Everyone else annoys me too much." Robin replied.
"I reckon you ain't much of a people person." Donnel commented.
"I 'reckon' I know too much about people, and you guys are the most normal guys I could find."
"Yeah, I think I might have to disagree with you on that." Inigo said. "I mean, Uncles Stahl and Donnel are pretty normal, but you just met me."
"Yeah, well, you seem to know something about girls, so I figured it couldn't hurt to have you here." Robin commented.
"...Sure." Inigo said. "I guess that makes sense, but that doesn't explain why he's here." He pointed to the other man in the room.
"It's probably because, when I walk by, girls tend to drop DEAD on their feet! Nya-ha!" Henry exclaimed.
"...I was running out of ideas." Robin admitted. "Regardless, what do you guys think of my date outfit?"
"...I reckon it's just your normal coat." Donnel commented.
"Would you prefer I put a bowl on my head, Donny?" Robin asked.
"...Maybe." He replied, looking at Robin's head.
"Don't you have anything else?" Stahl asked, opening one of the chests in Robin's tent. He looked inside, only to find it full of matching coats.
"...So I understand why you have the one Grimleal coat." Inigo commented. "You woke up in that one. Why did you have the other ones made?"
"It's my look!" Robin exclaimed.
"I think it's just the enemy uniform." Stahl commented.
"No. I've checked and it turns out I've made this coat so iconic that it's now universally referred to as a tactician's coat!" Robin exclaimed proudly.
"I'm a tactician?" Henry asked, looking at his coat. "Man, I feel sorry for whatever army I'm in charge of!"
"Henry, get your head out of your ass." Robin said. "You're clearly wearing a cloak, not a coat. Completely different."
"...It's stuff like that that caused us to be so surprised when you and Lucina got together." Stahl commented.
"You know what? You're right!" Robin exclaimed.
"Right about what?" Stahl asked.
"I do know more about fashion then you guys!" Robin exclaimed. "I think I'm all ready for my date! See you assholes later!" Robin stomped out of his tent.
"...Is he really the guy in charge of keeping us alive?" Inigo asked.
"He's really good at keeping people alive." Stahl commented.
"Just not as good as dealin' with 'em." Donnel added.
"You look beautiful." Robin said as they walked toward the town.
"I look ridiculous." Lucina countered.
"Yeah, you kinda do." He admitted. "That's a huge dress."
"Apparently it was Aunt Lissa's idea." Lucina looked down at the poofy dress. "It has some sort of metallic lining. She suggested I sit on a stool."
"The pigtails seem like Cynthia's touch." Robin commented. "Don't get me wrong, you do look amazing, but honestly, you look more like you're going to prom then a random tavern."
"Do I even want to know what a prom is?" Lucina asked.
"It's a fancy dance for rich girls." Robin bluntly explained. "Not really my scene."
"Well, I suppose I'm stuck in this…" Lucina sighed.
"Actually…" Robin said, pausing. They waited there for a few seconds. "...Kellem! Where are you?"
"I've been here, Robin." Kellem replied. Lucina jumped back, startled. Robin, however, kept his composure.
"Do you have the stuff?" He asked.
"Yes." Kellem replied, handing Robin a bundle of clothing and a tent kit.
"Thank you, Kel." Robin said. "Now, if you'll excuse us-" He looked for Kellem, only to find he was already gone. "Well, he's efficient."
"...Are those my clothes?" Lucina asked.
"Yup!" Robin replied. "And a tent for you to change in." He took out a book, sat down on a nearby log, and began to read. "Take your time. There's no rush."
Lucina looked through her clothing suspiciously. "...How did Sir Kellem know where I kept my-"
"Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." Robin quickly replied, not looking up from his book.
Lucina sighed and began to set up the tent.
The rest of the date went rather well.
To summarize it, they had a pleasant conversation throughout the entire meal, which is rare for both of them.
They returned home and shared a chaste kiss- and only a chaste kiss- that other writers would write pages about, describing each of their mouth flavors, the sounds each of them made, and the tense longing they each had for a deeper encounter.
That's kinda weird, so we'll just skip to the next day
"Robin?" Chrom said the next day, after Robin's date with Lucina.
"Sup, Chrom?" Robin asked.
"Why did Lucina come home in a separate set of clothing?" He asked. "I also saw a tent set up. I do trust you, but, as a caring father, I have to ask."
Robin thought about it. "...Oh, I see. That's actually kinda suspicious. Here's what happened." He explained to Chrom Lucina's wardrobe issues.
"Ah." Chrom said. "I figured something like that happened."
"...You figured that your extended family would bombard Lucina before her date." Robin said, skeptically.
"Well, I trust the merit of your character." Chrom clarified. "So, now that the dad part of me's said his bit, the friend part of me has to ask: how was the date?"
"It should have been boring." Robin admitted. "We just went out, ate a meal, talked to each other the entire time, and came back."
"But…" Chrom said.
"It was probably one of the greatest night of my life." Robin said, smiling. "Hell, I don't care about the stuff I've forgotten. Last night was probably better than any of it."
"...Now, the dad part of me asks, when you say 'last night'..." Chrom said.
"Nothing like that, and that's the best part!" Robin exclaimed. "I've been attracted to people before. Hell, in this army, you can't walk five feet without tripping over a woman who seemed to have been crafted by Naga herself."
"Lady Tiki does chose some rather inconvenient spots to nap…" Chrom commented.
"Lucina is beautiful, but I always thought that, if I were on a date with any other woman, there would really only be one thing on my mind." Robin said.
"Hold on a second." Chrom said. "If this is the mindset you've always had, then why didn't you go for Tharja?"
"Well, that's just it. I've never been on a date before because I never liked anybody." Robin said. "There's always something about their personality that turns me off. For example, don't stick it in crazy."
"...Right." Chrom commented. "And the difference with Lucina is-"
"I love everything about her! Her looks, her personality, her everything!" Robin exclaimed, with an energy that Chrom had never seen the tactician display.
"So you love her?" Chrom asked. "After one date?"
"Didn't you propose to Sumia fight after the war, before you even went on a date with her?" Robin asked.
"...Right." Chrom replied. "I'm not judging. Just wanted to make sure."
"...Shit. I'm in love." Robin realized.
"Welcome to the club." Chrom said, patting Robin's back. "Just a tip, though: I wouldn't come out and say that right away if I were you."
"I understand that, but that's how the majority of the couples in this army got together." Robin replied. "Hell, compared to everyone else, it's weird I took her on a date."
"I'm not gonna deny that." Chrom admitted. "Still, just do whatever you feel is right."
"...Sure." Robin said, deep in thought. "I got some stuff to do. I'll see you at the meeting in a few hours." He waved to Chrom as he walked away.
Chrom smiled.
He had some work to do.
I was thinking of writing the date, but then I realized that everybody writes this stuff. This entire story is me looking at aspects of the relationship that aren't really that explored, as well as explore some aspects of this version of Robin, who originated in a comedic story. It's interesting to see how he fits into a more traditional story.
Also, while Robin is sometimes my mouth-piece for certain things, we completely differ on one thing: I fucking love dances. That's probably not a popular view, but I have fun.
Also, you might see something I wrote pop up in another story. You'll know it when you see it.
