Chapter 2: Who Says Water is Good?
. . .
Morning came quite quickly, so it seemed. Soul woke up and started to scream and yell, waking up Blackstar along with him. Blackstar's reaction and expression matched that of Soul's; he was also yelling. Both him and Soul were hugging! They shoved each other away.
Kid jolted up from his sleeping position. "What happened?" "N... Nothing." Both white and pale blue-haired boys said. Crona rubbed his eyes slightly. Kid sighed. "I thought something had happened, since I heard screaming..."
Blakstar stood up. "Can we get going? This is boring." He complained. They went outside to a cloudy and cold setting. Kid shivered and asked. "Why aren't you cold?" Blackstar just grinned, "You all know the reason."
Soul shook his head. "He doesn't know, hence why he asked." He gave a noogie upon Blackstar's head. Blackstar chuckled. "Hey no fair," said he as he messed up Soul's hair in return.
Soul chuckled, shoving his friend away. Crona frowned, his fingers touching at their tips, while he had a nervous expression on his face. They went through the town and to an entrance of some sort, definitely weird looking. "Do you think it is this way," questioned Kid, who was basically talking to himself.
They froze before the door, hearing footsteps behind them. Soul turned, as if in low motion to him, and landed straight into what he exactly didn't want to be in. He glared and stumbled back. It took him only a moment to see who it was, and then his legs whipped out from under him. He was doing one of his epic nosebleeds, adding the flinging back of his head, blood erupting everywhere, and his back connecting with the ground, hard.
The being above him gave a giggle and hugged him to her bosom. "Aww, hey my little scythe boy!" Her voice purred. Soul's eye twitched, and he groaned, going unconscious now. The being hugged him tighter against her over sized chest. Kid cut through her giggling by stating, "We don't have anytime for this, Blair."
Blair transformed into a cat, rubbed against Kid's legs, and looked up at him. "Why not Kid?" She gave him a sweet look. Kid wasn't buying it and just raised a brow. "That is none of your business. You should go home while you can." He looked down at the stubborn purple cat.
With that as Kid's last answer, Blair reappeared in her human form, hands on hips. "Is that a threat Kid?" She thought that he was threatening her, even though he wasn't. She continued and gave a glance at Soul. "Soul would want me to stay, right Soul?" Her gaze went to Kid, then went back to Soul as he didn't answer right away. She blinked. "It has never taken him this long to... recover."
Blackstar clenched his fists only once, while Kid repeated. "You should leave." Blackstar knelt to the ground. "Oh that's just so damn peachy, you finally broke him, great going." He started to sigh. Blair frowned. "Soul?" She asked, dreading that you may have broke the only one that made her laugh at his reaction at seeing her boobs.
Then, Blackstar regained her attention by clearing his throat and flashing her a snarl of his teeth. "I'd definitely leave if Kid were you..." He had his arms crossed tightly over his chest. "Now." He stated coldly. Suddenly, they heard Soul's voice grumble. "So much for this 'cool day', guess the universe proved me wrong. Once again."
Just as he said that, Blackstar pounced on him. "STAND UP! DON'T YOU IGNORE ME YOU ASS!" He gave Soul a brief slap across the face, which made it only worse. Blair peered over Blackstar's shoulder and down at Soul, something big resting on Blackstar's upper back and one shoulder. Blackstar gave Blair another fierce glare.
Ignoring him, Blair smiled and leaned down more. "C'mon Soul." She got too close and Soul's head smashed with the ground and blood splattered everywhere from Soul's nose. Blackstar shook his body as he shouldered Blair off of himself. "Don't you dare, Soul. GET. UP!" A back of Blackstar's hand connected with Soul's jaw.
An odd expression appeared on Soul's face; it looked between dying and life, stretching toward death more. Out of nowhere, Kid to the rescue! He moved Blackstar off Soul and, with a sigh, held Blackstar as he tried to kick Soul to wake up. "Enough Blackstar, I think it's not working."
Blackstar calmed down and now stood straight. "What do you mean?" He eyed the young Reaper. "What are you saying, I can't do anything? I'll show you, bastard." He murmured. He stomped over to Soul and slowly reached into his pocket. His hand found what it had been looking for; they latched onto something tiny. He started to withdraw it when Kid asked. "What are you possibly thinking?"
Blackstar beamed. "Nothing can last through this!" He showed his pen, proudly, and laughed. Suddenly, the pen was out of Blackstar's grip and firmly in another. "Kid," Blackstar gasped a bit. Kid gave a sigh and replied. "That won't help in the least... Baka."
Blackstar's jaw dropped. "What?! You are-" He glared, reaching for the pen. "Give me the damn pen, Kid!" Kid held it out of his reach, while Blackstar stretched for it. "No Blackstar," Kid commanded the younger child. "Leave it alone." They struggled for the pen, eventually finding themselves in a tree.
Crona just stayed back, gnawing his lip between his teeth. He watched Blackstar slip and fall and try to grab Kid. They both started to fall. However, Kid pulled himself onto a branch, and Blackstar landed on another branch, throwing himself to the branch Kid was on. "If you won't give it to me, then I'll have to take it from you." He added, "Fine then!" He tackled Kid.
- Soul walked, impossibly cold. It was June and he was freezing! Over the horizon, he saw a glimpse of a storm. As he went toward the storm, he noticed a castle that sparkled brightly. It was completely encased in ice- no it was ice. Almost like in a trance, he walked right in and didn't hesitate. He heard a wicked evil laugh. He turned and saw the familiar green eyes of Maka Albarn, who was walking out of the shadows.
With a relieved sigh, Soul grinned a bit. "It's just you, Maka. Nice try in scaring me. Almost there." Maka growled and chased him. "What the hell Maka?! I was just joking!" He screamed at her, going behind a pillar. "Plus, I'm here to save you." He dodged a scythe blade, rolling to his feet. He backed up a bit, staring. 'She was a weapon?!' He blinked, dodging another swipe.
"Maka, I don't want to hurt you," he ducked his head and protected himself with his arm. Scythe blade collided with scythe blade, creating sparks. Maka growled and yanked his other arm behind him. "But I do," she hissed in his ear. Maka, going to give a finishing blow, raised her arm, but was then flung into the air. Soul stood a little away, sighing, "I didn't think I would be fighting you... so uncool..." His eyes widened just as Maka now threw him into the air and kicked him in the stomach.
Soul hit the ground, flipped in the air, hit the ground again, and slid to his feet. With one eye closed, he smirked weakly. "That was weak, even for you." His smirk deteriorated fast as a blade dug into his chest. Blood flowed from both his chest and his mouth. He grew dizzy and tired. He just wanted to lie down, but instead he forced an unconvincing glare and ran at Maka. Maka was so fast she seemed to disappear and reappear to kick him in the chest.
Soul exploded into darkness. He opened his eyes. There was no sign of Maka, or well, anyone. He laid still, breathing shallow. Just as his eyes went to flutter closed, he heard shuffling and a door opening. He got up, but got the wind knocked out of him. Maka had thrust something into his arms. "Put something presentable on." Soul looked down and grew red. He ran to the closet and put on the clothes.
Walking out he heard Maka state, "Now I can kill you."'Will you ever quit,' he thought angrily. 'I just got on clothes and she wants me dead.' He said. "Do you have any life Maka? I mean really, you're fricken' PMSing over nothing!" He looked over at her. She looked completely different than usual. She wore a black dress with a red dot in the middle of her chest with four lines stretching from it, her hair was mostly down except for the left side had a tiny braid, and her cloak was torn at the shoulders and hips.
Soul found himself blushing; he couldn't believe he was staring at her. He saw Maka rush at him, her eyes glowing lime green. He was so confused. Her eyes aren't supposed to do that. He took a defensive stance, hesitating as she came at him. "You won't do it." He cleared his throat. "I'll be the last thing you ever do, I promise." He had meant to sound tough, but it was merely a whisper.
"WOOHOOOO!" Maka and Soul heard a yell from above and looked up. The yell kept coming closer, until... Smash! A body crushed Maka. Soul gasped. He turned to the person. "What the... Where did you come from!?" He was on the brink of flipping out. The person let out a sigh at Maka. "That was a waste of my glorious talent and time." He then turned to Soul, smirking with an unusually bright light outlining him. "I came from reality to save your ass in your dreams!"
"Dream," questioned Soul, "what do you mean?" He could feel his confusion overwhelming him. "This is a dream...?" "What else would it be, Soul," Blackstar said with a shake of his head. "Just hold still," he slipped out a pen. Soul couldn't move all of a sudden. He could only watch as Blackstar undid the cap and scribbled on his forehead. Soul tried to wake himself up. "Stop it Blackstar. I want to wake up now." Blackstar smirked. "That's what I'm doing!" -
Soul opened his eyes to see Blackstar, Kid, and a purple cat. "See! It worked, suck it Reaper!" Blackstar gloated. Kid smacked him. "Yes, it worked..." Blackstar turned on him with a glare, butt nearly in Soul's face. "Don't slap the Great Blackstar. There will be consequences!" Kid just cocked a brow. "Unlikely." Blackstar landed face first on the ground as Soul shoved him away. Soul screamed loudly, making everyone jump.
"What's wrong scythey boy?" The cat asked him in Blair's recognizable voice. Soul groaned as he realized it was all a dream and he was clothed. He stood up. "I thought I saw something, that's all." He wiped his forehead and nose, staring at the clouds. "Rain," asked Blackstar. Soul shook his head. "No, snow." Before Blackstar could complain about Soul wiping off his autograph, Soul stated. "We better hurry to the waterfall."
Blair's ear twitched. "Did you say the waterfall?" She turned to leave. "Count me out, I don't want to swim right now." She ruffled up her fur then strutted off. The three boys started to walk when Kid told them that they need to make sure they make it to their destination before dark. Suddenly, multiple screams erupted in the distance. Soul and Blackstar shared a glance. It sounded similar to Chrona and Blair. "Sh-should we check?" Blackstar asked him. Soul hesitated. The screams seemed really far away. "... We should just keep going..."
Blackstar nodded slowly and climbed a tree. Searching for the waterfall, he kept repeating, "Waterfall, where is it... Waterfall..." Down below, Kid asked Soul. "Why do you think it's going to snow?" "Just a hunch," Soul answered. Kid stated. "That's not true." "Fine. I had a dream about it alright? I saw the snow," Soul admitted, glumly. Kid looked at him without any emotion, except his eyes seemed wild. "Where's the castle?"
Soul blinked. "How..?" Kid sighed. "At the Academy last night, she told me." "She, who's she?" Soul asked slowly, arching a brow.
_ Kid had ran into where he suspected his father to be. He saw only a cloaked figure. "Do you know where my father is located? And who exactly are you." The figure tilted her head. "Death the Kid, son of Death, a Reaper. Ah, Death, where is he you ask? At my castle of course, along with everyone else I found useful." "Why are you telling me this," Kid had a strange feeling. Then he stated. "You're a witch."
The witch's smirk appeared in the black of her hood. "Perhaps, you will find out soon enough." Kid grew slightly angered. "You are, you are the one throwing off the balance, including my symmetry! That I can't leave alone!" He ran at the witch. He missed the witch, hearing her voice behind him. "You better hold your tongue, Reaper. Something cold pressed against his neck, and he collapsed to the ground. He felt ice crawl up his neck. He mouthed. "You will regret th-this damn-damn..." He couldn't go on because his vision started to go black.
All he saw was the witch disappear in a whirlpool and say, "You'll come." Kid felt the ice start to melt, but he slipped into unconsciousness._
"How do we get there," Kid asked Soul again, more forcefully. Soul just shrugged a shoulder. "How don't you know?" Kid questioned, glaring slightly. Soul blinked at the Reaper's outburst. "I was actually busy, since I was running for my life." He had ended up glaring back. "Found it," piped up Blackstar as he landed beside them. "What happened?" He asked.
Soul stated. "Nothing." In his opinion, he rather not go to the castle, since that was where his nightmare had probably occurred. He didn't want to relive that, not ever again. Blackstar smirked. "March then!" He led the way. After a while, he paused and turned left. "Hm, I could of sworn it was this way. Or was it the other way?" "We're going in circles," grumbled Soul. Blackstar exclaimed. "I'll find it, don't worry!"
Kid turned around and eyes wide slightly. "Do you two buffoons she or hear that?" Soul and Blackstar stared at Kid like he had eighteen heads and five fingers on his nose. Kid walked a few steps and found himself in an ice castle. "Where are you?" Soul stated. "We're right here." Kid ignored him. The witch appeared, "Get off my property or perish. And since the world is my property, it is saying something." Kid commented. "You do not own the world."
Soul looked over at Blackstar, who made circles with his fingers by his temples (saying Kid was nutts). With a sigh, the witch disappeared. Kid ran up the stairs. 'You're not running away!' He yelled in his head. The witch reappeared sitting on an ice block. "Just give up, your world is going to be destroyed either way." Suddenly, Soul was in front of Kid and shoved him backwards. "Are you trying to get yourself killed?!"
The castle faded away to reveal a cliff directly two feet in front of him. Kid blinked his eyes, wondering how he got there. "... No?" He hesitated and guessed. Blackstar chimed, "See I got you guys here!" They were at a waterfall, and if you looked over the edge you could see the sparkling blue water. Blackstar's voice changed as he said. "We've trouble." "What?" Soul looked at him. "Witch." Blackstar pointed as he said that.
The witch was floating in the air, parallel to the cliff's edge. She taunted him slightly while having her head tilted. Soul's voice slowly said, "Blackstar, there's no witch." Kid was looking at Blackstar with a funny look. Blackstar scowled. "She's right there! Are you both blind!?" He added as he got down low, "I'll destroy her myself." He threw himself into the air at the witch.
Kid's brain clicked. They couldn't see her before, but now Blackstar is seeing her and they aren't. "Don't." He told Blackstar too late and leaped after him. Soul went to jump, but stopped. Blackstar growled. "I got this Kid. Go away." His fist went through the witch and he blinked. When he turned his head, she was gone. Then, he was falling. Kid grabbed a hold of him. They went toward the rippling waves.
Soul saw a witch and growled low, running off into the open air. He swung at her, fist landing where her jaw would be. However, there was never a connection. It had went through her, and now she was gone again. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Blackstar and Kid shoot off a real close ledge into him. The three went toward the other side of the cliff. Blackstar and Kid went sliding and skidding and rolling when they hit.
Soul almost mad it until something grabbed his ankle. He rushed downward into the water below. Thunder cracked against the sky suddenly. Then, Soul felt hands grab his left arm and his right fingers. He looked to see Kid try to pull him up by his arm, while Blackstar used both hands to yank him up by his wrist. Soul let out a noise of pain. "I don't stretch this far!"
Just before Soul thought he'd lose an arm or an ankle, the grip loosened o his ankle, and he plowed into Kid and Blackstar. They looked over the edge, seeing the gray blue waves smash against the rocks and almost face like thing in it. It screeched, going into the depths of the water. Blackstar stammered. "W-what the hell was t-that?!" "I don't have an idea, but we can conclude to never go into the water again. Agreed?" Kid looked over the edge then to Blackstar and Soul.
They both nodded. They stood up, but suddenly, a giant tower of water rose up, taller than any of them. It was at least 15 feet high and five feet wide. It was screeching and dripping various amounts of water onto each boy, who were closer together than usual and partially screaming. More lighting and thunder erupted around them and rain poured on them. "Told you so Soul! It did rain." Blackstar exclaimed.
Then, the boys were pelted with hail and snow. Soul smirked, but Blackstar growled. "Don't say it, Soul." Blackstar told him. The wave of water created a face and swallowed them. They were pulled into the frigid water. Hail struck Blackstar in the head, and it made him yell. "OW." It sounded more like owgaraaloaa -bubbles-, since he was pulled under. Soul said his name.
Then, not even a second later, Kid went under. "KID," Soul grabbed a rock as he felt the water tug his ankle. For some odd reason, it stopped. It all stopped. The water calmed a bit. Soul dove under the water to reach Kid and Blackstar. He swam down, needed air suddenly, and rushed up. He couldn't make it. The water shoved him down more. Down down down. He started to suffer from lack of oxygen. Then nothing.
Soul awoke to see Blackstar in a sitting position and Kid laying on his back. He heaved up water, coughing and sputtering. After he was done, Kid was standing, so was Blackstar. "What happened?" Soul asked no one in particular. Surprisingly, Blackstar answered. "I think we were forced down into the water to be spilled out here. The witch wants us for something, maybe to destroy the world or maybe as an army."
Both Soul and Kid looked at him. Both had not come to that conclusion. Kid thought some then gave a nod. "That is exactly what she is doing." Soul grinned a bit. "And Blackstar knew it before Kid." Kid just ignored him. Blackstar turned around and hit a tree. "Who put this tree here?" Kid and Soul had weird expressions that basically said 'really Blackstar?' Blackstar rubbed his nose.
Kid turned to Soul. "Which way?" "How should I know?" Both Blackstar and Soul answered at the same time. Kid sighed. "Soul, think about your dream-" Soul closed his eyes and they snapped open. "I... I can't." "Just think of getting there," commanded Kid. Soul closed his eyes again. For a few minutes he stood there, until he reopened his eyes. "Go to the storm."
"That storm?" Blackstar looked to the crazy storm clouds. Soul told him yes. Blackstar beamed. "What are we waiting for? Let's kick some butt!" They trudged forward. Blackstar grinned. "March, march. This witch is going to face the Great Blackstar with his not-as-great minions!" He strutted ahead. Only a little while later: Blackstar dragged his feet and groaned. "Are we there yet? At this rate, we'll never find it."
Kid sighed. "Once again, no." Soul laughed and said. "This time, we're close. Now stop complaining." Blackstar lit up. "About time." A snowflake fell onto his nose, and he sneezed. Not realizing quick enough, his foot hit a puddle, and it started to yank him in. "You have to be kidding me!" Furiously and in vain, he tried to get his leg out. Soul took him out.
"Now watch where you're going, Blackstar," Soul commanded him. Blackstar sighed. "Right, I forgot." "Hey you two, maybe you should see this," Kid stared up at a massive object. All three boys were in its shadow. They all stopped and looked at it.
