"Are you done yet?" Cora asked while sitting on my bed.
"I'm almost finish."
Cora and I decided to hang out today since we really couldn't all this week. I was was grateful for her to be here because if she wasn't you know who would be. I'm still upset that my dad kept all those letters away from me, but I guess it was for the best. Kate actually seemed like a normal loving mom, except the parts were she wanted me to take innocent people lives.
Of course, I had to tell Cora. She was very supportive, I wasn't very surprise that she was. She has opened up more since I've been around her. I guess she's changing my life, and I'm changing hers.
We were in my room drawing each other. I sat at the head of the bed while she sat at the bottom.
"I think you're going to like my picture of you," Cora teased running her feet up my leg.
"I'm going to like it because you made it," I smiled as I finished up the drawing. "Ok, on the count of three."
After we finished counting together, we quickly turned our drawing towards each other. Laughter filled the room as soon as we saw how we each drew each other.
Since neither one of us could draw very good, our picture contained of a stick figure. The main thing that stood out in her picture was my dark curly hair. My hair looked like it was consuming my whole head.
"My eyes are not that big," Cora complained as she observed my drawing.
In my picture Cora had long brown hair that stopped right below her shoulders, and big honey brown eyes.
"I know, but they're beautiful."
"Oh god, you're making me sick," Cora said trying not to smile.
"Your smile is very, very sexy."
"Stop it Kevin," Cora giggled, and yes she actually giggles.
"I can't help myself. You do this to me," I laughed.
"Well, maybe I should leave." She stood up off my bed gathering her stuff.
"Oh no, you're not getting away from me that easy." I stood half way off the bed grabbing her arm. I gently pulled her onto my lap, and wrapped my arms around her. "You're the best thing that happen to me in my whole life."
"Really? I'm not that special. I can be mean sometimes, and then I can be inpatient, or I can be very..." I cut her off as I place our lips together in a soft kiss. "Yea, cut someone off as they rant about themselves. I can say that has never happened..." I cut her off as I kissed her again. "Stop doing th..." Instead of giving her a fast chaste kiss, I gave her a slow passionate kiss. She snuggled closer to me as she deepened the kiss. As much as I hated it, we had to break the kiss for air.
"I know you're mean and impatient. You tend to nag, and it wouldn't hurt to try a little color," I explained. Cora slapped my shoulder and stood from my lap, but I grab her hand. "But, I still love you anyway." I kissed her knuckles.
She snatches her hand away and turns her back, trying to cover her smirk. "You're a dork," she stated, turning back to me.
"And you love me," I smirked, laying back on my bed.
She rolled her eyes and walked to the box in the corner. She grabbed a letter and laid beside me on the bed. When she finished reading the letter she looked at me and said, "Kate seemed like she had a heart."
I roll off my back onto my side. "But, she didn't," I stated. I take the letter from Cora and toss it onto the floor. "I've got more important things to worry about right now." I position myself over Cora, supporting myself with my elbow.
I close the space between us with another passionate kiss. I felt Cora's fingers brush the hair in the back of my head as I rubbed her thigh. I pull away from her soft lips to kiss her neck. My hands slowly trailed under her shirt, feeling her soft skin. I easily lost myself in the wonderland that was Cora's body.
"Kevin, do yo-"
I look up to see Allison frozen in my doorway. "Yes Allison?" I asked, knowing I wouldn't be able to finish what was interrupted. I crawled off of Cora and sat at the edge of the bed waiting for my cousin to answer.
"I was going to ask if you wanted to go catch a movies."
"Sure," I flatly answered.
"Okay, we'll leave soon," Allison explained, stepping out of my room.
When the door closed I felt arms wrap around my midsection. Cora placed her head on my shoulder and smirked.
"This isnt funny," I announced.
"Of course it isn't," she sarcastically agreed. She pecked my lips and stood from the bed. She lead me out of my room by my hand.
"You didn't tell me they were going to be here." I sharply looked between Stiles and Scott. Man, do I hate those two; especially Stiles.
"You know I'm not that jolly with you being here either." Stiles mumbled returning my hard stare.
"Are we going to stand out here and tell each other how much we extremally hate one another or are we going to go see the movie?" Lydia questioned, gesturing to the theater.
"You're just upset that we didn't rent The Notebook," Allison giggled.
After long intense stares, we all make our way into the movie. I sit beside Cora. I look to my left to see Stiles moving towards the open seat beside me. I quickly stand and point for him to move far, far away from me. Mumbling under his breath, he turns back and let's Lydia sit beside me.
After the movie, we gather back outside.
"I've seen scarier things in a subway in New York," I commented on the horror film.
Stiles nodded. "Ya, I've seen scarier."
"Like when you look in the mirror," I insulted.
"Dude, will you just give me a break?" Stiles asked, causing me to shake my head. "What have I ever done to you? I see no reason to hate me."
"Just the sight of you irritates me," I simply answered.
Instead of Lydia interrupting our dispute, we stop arguing, hearing Isaac speak. "You're meaner than Cora, and that's saying something."
"I'm not mean. I say what's on my mind," I admitted.
"Isaac I already apologised and replaced your stupid scarf."
"My scarves are not stupid." Isaac argued with Cora. "So, next time you have a temper tantrum, stay far away from my scarves."
"Why are they still at the loft?" Cora complained. "You don't even live with us anymore."
"Your brother kicked me out into the rain, and I didn't want to risk them getting wet."
Cora rolled her eyes, tired of arguing with Isaac.
"I think we should head home before there's a fistfight," Allison suggested.
Lydia walked over to Allison, and her hands on her shoulders. "I'm not going home at 8 o'clock."
"Then what are we supposed to do?" Allison questioned.
"I don't care anymore I just want to get away from this place." Stiles started looking around. "It's starting to give me the creeps."
"You're scared, aren't you." Scott teased his friend.
Stiles laughed. "Yea right. Nothing scares me."
At that same moment a little girl, that had to be about five, wearing a yellow dress ran past us yelling about the movie she just loud voice caused Stiles to fall in my direction. I caught him, but quickly pushed him away from me. The girl's long black hair whipped as she turned, looking at Stiles as if he had two heads. The girl slowly backs away from the group until she reached her mother.
"I just want to go home," I admitted, irritated by Stiles.
"I have a idea," Lydia advanced with a smirk.
We hiked through the woods until we reached a clearing. We gathered wood for the bonfire, and started a debate over who should start the fire.
"Allison, and especially Kevin can't start the fire."
"I don't think we should let Cora do it either." Isaac admitted.
"Then how about you light the fire, Isaac." Scott suggested.
"If I wouldn't risk not even one of my scarves get wet, then what makes you think I would let it get anywhere near a fire."
"Then take it off." Although it was dark I could see Lydia rolling her eyes.
"Then, it would get dirty."
"I'll light the fire," Stiles offered, holding the match.
"I don't think that's a good idea,"
Stiles scratched the match against a piece of wood, igniting it before saying,"Why not? No one else will, so I'll..." Before he could complete his statement, he felt the heat of the fire on his fingers. He threw the match.
As the flame of the match died at Cora's feet, I lunge for Stiles. Before I could reach for his neck, Scott stepped between us.
"He didn't mean to do that."
I switch my weight from foot to foot, eyeing Stiles over Scott's shoulder. I finally break my stare to look at Cora, who looked at the match with distant eyes. I could tell that she was having flashbacks to the most tragic day that she had ever experienced. I gave Stiles the 'this is not over' look before I walked back to Cora.
She still had her eyes locked onto the match. I slowly wrapped one arm around her shoulders. It took her a few seconds to realize that she was back in the woods with me and the others; that she was safe.
"Let's take a walk," I suggested.
She hesitantly nodded her head. We had walked silently for a few minutes just taking in our surroundings. An owl that was right above us caught my attention causing us to stop.
"You see that?" I smile when her eyes grew big as she watched the owl.
"I never seen one of those up close."
"Me neither. I use to be scared of owl when I was little."
"What? Why?"She let out a soft laugh.
"I watched this show that taught you about different animals, or organisms, as they said. My dad had gone to sleep already, so the whole house was pitch black. It terrified me as the owl quickly grabbed a mouse with it's talons. I had a dream that I was the mouse," I explained as a sudden shiver came over my whole body. "To this day my dad still teases me about my fear of owls."
By now Cora's laugh had gotten louder. She learned on me to support herself as she laughed uncontrollably.
"I never made you laugh like that," I spoke quietly after she had stopped laughing and we had continued to walk. "It's like music to my ears."
"Once again with the cheesey stuff."
"You like it," I teased as I had brought her closer to me as we walked. "Do you feel better?"
"Yea. Thanks."
"Anything for the love of my life." I smiled as she rolled her eyes.
"Can I tell you something that no one knows?" Cora asked as we stopped to look at the sky above us.
"Yes."
She drew in a deep breath as she said," I thought I was the reason that my whole family died in that fire."
I had a sudden urge to ask a million questions, but I knew that I shouldn't bombard her with questions. So instead I gave my full attention to her and let her continue when she was ready.
"That same day me and another girl from the pack was playing with matches. We had learned to cover up the smell so no one would know we had them. We were young and we knew how dangerous they were, but we didn't know that the match could still catch on fire after it had went out." She let out a shaky breath. "We heard someone coming and we panicked. We threw a still lit match in the trash and ran. I could hear Peter yelling that he knew what we were doing. We just laughed it off and didn't think anymore about it."
I wrap both of my arms around her making sure she knew that I was here for her.
"Derek had disappeared saying he had to go see someone. Everyone knew it was his girlfriend, but we didn't know it was Kate. Laura had to drop me off at a friend's house so we could study. It was the first test that we would have had in sixth grade. I study so hard that my head started hurting." Cora gave a weak smile. I had notices that she had started sniffling.
"Laura was suppose to pick me up at 6 that afternoon, but she didn't come until the next day. I wanted to get home quickly so I could show my parents how well I was prepared for the test, but when I got home I-I ..." Cora couldn't finish the sentence. She couldn't hold it in any longer. She had started crying.
I could feel her warm tears on my shirt. I held her tighter as she wept even harder. I just let her let it all go because I knew that she was holding all that pain, feelings, and tears for years after years. I started whispering calming word into her ear until her cries had turned into sniffles.
"I don't even remember half of my old pack's name. I knew that crap about the electrical fire was not true. I was sure I did it." She said barely above a whisper. "It finally hit me years later that it wasn't me who started the fire. I remembered that while I was getting ready to leave, I had ran back to the room to get my book. There was an unfamiliar scent. I thought it was just one of Laura's new, stinky perfumes."
"It was my mom's scent, wasn't it?" I asked.
She nodded her head.
"What did she smell like?"
"Wolfsbane... Gunpowder... And blood," Cora listed, pausing trying to remember. "I didn't know what all those things smelled like when I was young."
"Hey it's ok. She can't hurt you anymore."
"Not true." She whispered. "When she hurts you... She hurts me too."
"We will find a way to stop her." I looked into Cora's eyes. The moon made them more beautiful. "I promise."
I pull her into a tight hug. I remain quiet, giving her more time to think. After standing in each others arms for a long moment, I feel Cora slowly backing away.
"I'll take you home," I offered, rubbing her cheek with my thumb.
"No," she answered slowly shaking her head. "I don't want to ruin tonight."
"My night was ruined when I saw Stiles."
She laughed and began to lead me back to the group.
When we reached everyone else the first person to catch my attention was Stiles. I move away from Cora and towards the boy poking at the fire. I snatched the stick from his hand, and point him away from the fire.
"But,"
"Just go," I ordered.
Stiles threw his hands up, and backed away.
When Stiles reached a distance of my liking, I threw the stick into the fire, and began to study the group.
"Kevin," Stiles called, "let's talk."
"No," I answered over my shoulder.
"Just a minute."
"No."
"I threatened Derek before. I'm not scared to threaten you. Come here before I drag your little hunter ass over here."
I turned to look at him with a raised eyebrow and a smile. Within seconds I had Stiles pinned to a tree with one of my newly sharpened daggers laid under his throat.
"Do you want to repeat what you just said?" I dared more than questioned.
"Why would I repeat myself when you followed orders like the good boy you are," Stiles smiled, pushing me to a respectful distance.
"What do you want Stiles?" I asked, not wanting to be there another second. I slowly placed the dagger back at my waist.
"I just don't understand why you don't like me."
"I don't dislike you. I hate you," I corrected.
"But, why? We're a lot alike."
I raised my eyebrow, trying to think of things Stiles and I had in common. "What the hell are you talking about?"
"Like," Stiles held out, trying to think. "Like, we're the same height."
For some odd reason he was right. I knew I was taller than Stiles, and there was no way he could grow taller in seconds. I look down to notice Stiles was standing on a hill. "No, you're not."
He crossed his arms. "We both have brown eyes," he announced after studying me with his light brown eyes.
"My eyes are green." I stood, giving him a chance to assume another similarity. After a long silence I turned to walk away but stopped, hearing Stiles mumble. I slowly turn back around to him. "What?" I asked as if I didn't hear him.
"Our moms," he repeated. "They're both died."
"You're mom was probably nice," I assumed. "Mine was a soulless psychopath."
"Well..."
"Stop," I tiredly ordered. "Stop trying to compare us. We're nothing alike." I look stiles up and down, and decide to give him a break for the rest of the night. No more insults; No more arguing, but everything will be back to normal tomorrow, when I'm done thinking about Kate. "Come on," I friendly ordered.
Stiles and I return to the group. I sit behind Cora and pull her to me.
"What happened?" She asked looking at me over her shoulder.
"I'm going to lay off Stiles for a while."
Cora raised her eyebrow at me then looked at Stiles, who was continuing to poke at the fire. A spark flew from the fire causing Stiles to jump back and stumble over a log that was behind him. I cringe with insults as I watched Stiles sit beside Lydia and shyly look at me.
"Are you sure you can?"
I stiffly shook my head. "It's only for the rest of the night."
"I will be so proud of you if you go that long." Cora smiles.
Before she turned back around, I placed a soft kiss on her lips.
"I can actually say I had fun tonight." Cora admitted.
"Really? How much?" I ask bringing my arms around her waist.
"Enough to last me until we have some fun together." Cora whispered in my ear.
"I like the sound of that." I laughed.
"Well I don't, so can you please move." I had totally forgot about Isaac.
We separated letting Isaac slip through the loft's doors.
"Isaac you don't live here anymore," Peter stated a little confused on why he was here.
"You don't live here either," Isaac argued. "I would still be living here if someone didn't get all sensitive and kick me out." Even though I wasn't anywhere near here when that happened, I could tell that Isaac was still upset. His voice might not have gave it away, but his eyes told everything. "What a good alpha you turned out to be," Isaac threw the insult over his shoulder as he went up the stairs.
Derek stood near the window looking out. The insult that came from Isaac obviously set him on edge. His shoulders had risen to a high tensed position. I look back to Cora to see that she had a guilty look plastered on her face. I slightly tightened my grip around her waist. Derek and Cora caught each attention, but decided that they would talk about what was on their minds later. I placed a finger under Cora's chin to bring her eyes back to me. Once I had her full attention I slowly placed a kiss on her lips. She pressed so close to me nothing, like a busy Isaac, could not come between us. I wanted to deepen the kiss, but I could feel the glares coming from both of the Hales.
"I wonder what it feels like to kiss a dog." Peter chuckled lightly.
"Not tonight Peter," Cora growled.
I could feel the growl vibrate through her whole body.
"I think I should be leaving."
"Yea. I'll see you tomorrow. Right?" Cora asked.
"Yea."
"Don't leave me," Isaac cried out as Cora gave me the last kiss of the day.
"I won't."
Isaac flew past Peter,Cora, and I with a enormous brown box in his hands. Not realizing that he had dropped a scarf, he continued to rush out the door. I shook my head as I bent down to collect the abandoned object, and threw it over one of my shoulders.
"You would look really cute if you wore these." Cora smiled as she fixed the scarf around my neck.
"You'd look better."
"Are you suggesting that we should be a couple that wears matching scarves?" Cora laughed.
"I'm not suggesting anything, but you know I'll do anything that would make you happy. So if you like me in a scarf then I will wear a scarf until the end of time."
"I'd prefer you without clothes," Cora thought out loud.
"I heard that," I raised an eyebrow.
Cora stood on her toes to whisper in my ear, "It wasn't suppose to be a secret."
We couldn't help but to smile at each other. Cora's smile becoming more of a smirk every passing second.
When we finally look away from each other, we are met with a very upset Isaac. I don't know how long he had been standing there, but judging on how he was tapping his foot I'm guessing a while.
"My scarves are nothing to play with," he stated blankly staring into my eyes then into Cora's. He gently unwrapped the scarf from around my neck. I think the only reason he removed the scarf gently was because he didn't want anything to damage it. I was the last thing on his list.
Cora and I just laughed as we said our goodbyes, before I headed out to my car with Isaac and his 'Babies'.
I opened the door of my room to find Kate leaning against the far wall, waiting for me. She stepped forward, but I walked past her.
"We need to talk."
"I dont feel like arguing with you," I stated, focusing on removing my shoes. I had been apart of too many arguments for one day. Once ready for bed, I lied down, Ignoring Kate.
"Kevin Daniel Argent, we..."
I pull the covers over my head, blocking out Kate. "Keven," Kate called, pulling the covers from over my head.
"Kate." I pulled the covers from her hand, and placed them back over my face. This exchange continued for minutes, only making us both angrier with the other. "KATE!" I yelled. "GET THE HELL OUT OF MY ROOM!" I pull the covers over my head, ending our fight.
