A/N I know it has taken me to long to get this chapter written and up. I do apologize for that. I do have another chapter written so I will be posting it probably either Friday or Saturday
Chin guided the two girls form the kitchen to the living room where Danny sat. He decided to leave Doris in the kitchen to let her have time to herself that way she could let everything that has happened so far sink in.
He couldn't believe that it hasn't even been a day since this whole incident has started; if only he hadn't forced Steve to go for his shots. That god damn face, why of all the faces does it have to be the scared puppy dog face. All he could thing about was that god damn face; that was the last time he had saw Steve and he couldn't get out of it his mind. It hurt so much to know that Steve was helpless and all he could do was stand back and watch, knowing that there was nothing he could do he wished he could be the one administering the shots just so he could be with him. Danny could feel the pull of exhaustion pulling him away from reality, he knew that his sleep would be filled with nothing but nightmares but he couldn't bear staying in a world where Steve wasn't there beside him. He had to get away even if it was only for a couple of hours; and with that last thought Danny drifted off to sleep.
As I was walking the girls into the living room I could see Danny was curled up in a ball in Steve's favourite spot on the couch "That's odd" I thought. I could tell something was wrong so I called out to him "hmm no response. He' never let his guard down" I tap on the girls shoulder and I could see right away that they were just as concerned as I was
Slowly the group of three walked towards Danny making sure that there was enough noise so that they didn't spook him; when they reached the front of the couch they finally found out why he was not responding to them. There laying on the couch was a grown man curled into a small ball with a tear soaked face. Anyone could tell that just from looking at the detective that he was passed out on the couch. Not being surprised Cathryn grabbed the blanket off the back of the couch and placed it over him. Just as fast as the blanket was placed on top of him he just as quickly grabbed the blanket in his sleep and pulled in closer to him. You could see just from the placing of the blanket that his face relaxed a little.
"This is crazy Steve is my boyfriend yet Danny seems to be taking it the worst then all of us," said Cathryn
Chin stood standing in front of Danny watching his facial expressions. He knew he had seen Danny make those same express before but couldn't quite think of what it was. As he stood watching he finally realized where he had seen them before. It was when Steve was in the hospital in critical condition from being shot during a stake out mission him and Danny were on, Danny had and still does blame himself for not telling Steve to look out in time. Chin was the only one who knew that Danny never stopped blaming himself for the incident. He saw the expressions flash across his face whenever Danny was with Steve
"The reason he's taking it so hard is because he blames himself for Steve's disappearance and capture," exclaimed Chin finally looking up from Danny
"How do you know that?" asked Kono with a puzzled look on her face
"The same way I know that you're confused," he could now see that both of them were confused "It's
your facial expressions that give you away," explained Chin
"But he's sleeping, how on earth could you figure this out?" This time it was Cathryn who asked
"Whenever you are asleep you can't control or hold in any emotions that you are trying to hide. Not everyone is like but there are people who are as open as a book when they are asleep, you just need to know how to read the signs"
"But how do you know?" Cathryn asked again
"Well when Steve was in the hospital after what happened during their stake out Danny never left Steve's side scared that he might not make it. All during that time he had the same look on his face as he does now and if you watch closely enough you can see it flash across his face quickly whenever him and Steve are together."
"That would make sense why every once in a while you can hear Steve giving Danny a lecture of letting go and saying that it wasn't his fault" proclaimed Kono
"If that's the case maybe we should try to wake him I know…."
"CH-CHIN! C-C-COME Q-QUICK!"
Chin, Kono, and Cathryn ran quickly into the kitchen quickly forgetting about Danny. As they entered the first thing they saw was Doris pointing to a screen with a bloody Steve on it.
"STEVE?! STEVE ANSWER ME!" screamed Doris
"Doris there's too much blood around for anyone to survive that," exclaimed Kono. SHe looked around to the rest of them and then back to the screen. "I can't tell if his chest is moving up and down"
"No h-he can't be. I –I won't believe it, I can't believe it…." Stammered Cathryn "What about Danny? What are we going to tell him? He'll be absolutely devastated and he'll blame himself even more."
"What will I blame myself for?"
The four people standing in the kitchen turned around in shock. None of them had heard Danny walk in. Not a single one of them wanted to tell him, the gaze of the four people never reached Danny's eyes. Doris, Chin, Cathryn, and Kono had been put into a situation that none of them knew or wanted to deal with.
The three girls looked to Chin hoping that he would be the one to take charge. "Danny you might want to sit down for this," said Chin
"I'm pretty sure I'm fine to stay standing," said Danny with a confused look
Chin looked at Danny with a sad look in his eyes "Danny… Danny Steve's dead," said Chin choking on his words
"No he isn't! I don't believe you! Steve can't die, not now he can't!" Yelled Danny
"Danny please sit down, we know how you're feeling but please sit down before you fall over. You're no use to us if you have a concussion," pleaded Kono
Danny just stared at them with tears streaming down his face. Before he could say anything he fell to his knees with his head in his hands letting out a noise that broke all their hearts. All they could do is watch as the grown man knelt on the ground crying and whimpering not knowing that off in hiding was Scott laughing at the footage of the broken group of people.
