I've gotten a bunch of messges and comments asking if and when I'm continuing this story and it's finally back!
Well there's no excuse for why I haven't been updating other than I hit a serious road block with this chapter, I had written half of it months ago but I never had an inspiration to finish this chapter.
As always I apologize for any and all grammatical errors.
Enjoy!
She could feel the sunlight hitting her face, warming it slowly by the second, her arms are under her pillows, gripping them softly, as they cradled her head.
A smile spread across her face, she was so peacefully and content with everything in her life. If she woke up feeling this wake for every day for the rest of her life, she would be a happy woman.
In a force of habit, she reached out, trying to find his sleeping body next to her, to just place her hand on his bare back, maybe have him role over so she could get closer.
For that split second she was certain she'd find him there next to her, but then reality set in and all she could feel was empty sheets, where he had never been. Opening her eyes, she looked around slowly, hoping there was some evidence that he had been here, but there was nothing, he wasn't there.
Every morning for some reason, the first 5 minutes of her being awake she thought he was there, he had never left her side all night, it wasn't until she opened her and looked around she realized he wasn't there, he wasn't making coffee, or finding his shirt she had thrown somewhere the night before, he was gone.
She signed, as she rolled over, looking at the clock located on her night table; 7:39. Shift started at 9 o'clock, which meant she had an hour and twenty-one minutes to get ready, get to work, and miss him for every single second of her day until she went back to sleep.
It had been different not having him here, even though she knew that he had never really been here, it still sucked not having him. After she got back, there was no way in hell she was going to live in the house with or without Luke, it just reminded her what an idiot she had been, not listening to her heart.
She stayed at Traci's for awhile, a whole week, she felt bad with Traci, Leo and Jerry being there most nights, she felt like she was honing in on their cute little family they had created.
Luckily, she found an apartment relatively quickly, moved all her crap from Luke's to her new place with the help of Dov and Chris.
Even since she stepped foot in the apartment, she wondered what he'd say, would he approve? Or would he tell her to go for something different? Offer to move in with him? There was a lot she questioned.
Throwing her legs over the edge of her bed, she sighed, she just wanted him to come home, not here- well, because this wasn't his home but she wanted his opt to be over, and him to be back in Toronto, at his house, within running distance.
It had been 6 months since she her almost wedding day, 6 months since she thought it was a good idea to tell him how she felt, 6 months since he went under.
Selfishly she wanted him not to go, but that wasn't the type of person he was. He was true to his word, and she knew that there was a reason Boyd asked him to take this opt, because he was the only one who would be successful, have a fighting chance of getting this guy off the streets.
That still didn't make it any easier to get through the long days of him being gone.
"See that, that worries me." She heard Traci say as she sat down at Andy's kitchen counter.
"What?"
"That, that look in your eyes every time your phone rings. Sam's gone, Andy..." Her phone had rang a moment earlier, it wasn't anything special just her dad letting her know he was back safe from his AA meeting.
"Andy, Sam left months ago, and every single time you're phone goes off I see it in your face, it lights up but then goes cold." Traci saw Andy as more of a sister than a friend and to constantly watch someone she cared about so much get their hopes only to have them crushed moments later was getting more difficult for Traci to bare.
"What are you getting at Trac?" Andy questioned, it's not that she didn't want her friends opinion, but she was having such a difficult time dealing with the changes happening around her, and she just wasn't in the mood for the 'Let-go-of-Sam' talk.
"You light up at the thought that it might be him, or Oliver on the other end telling you that he's home, but then your face drops slightly when you realize that it could be the opposite, it could be Oliver on the other end telling you that something has happened and Sam isn't coming home." Traci watched as her friend took along drink of wine before responding.
"Who knew you were watching so carefully," Andy said, letting the spite roll off her tough.
"What did you want me to do Andy? Just sit back and watch you walk away from Luke, because he wasn't what your heart wanted and now you're sitting her waiting for Sam. You always talked about stability and how you wanted to have it in your life, and now your life is anything but stable." Andy could her the concern in her friend's voice. "Sure you have a steady job, friends, even your dad is getting better but you and I both know that you waiting for his opt to be over to see if there's a future with you both is anything but stable. "
"Just support me okay? Please Trac, I have no idea what I'm doing but for the first time in a long time I'm just going with it, letting someone else take the lead for once.." She trailed off. The truth was she didn't know who was taking the lead, before he left she made her feeling perfectly clear, that she wanted to try and make things work with him. The ball was in his court. But he went under, so as of right now no one was taking the lead, Sam wasn't here to do so, as much as she wanted him too.
"There's nothing I want more than to support you, but Andy what you're doing right now doesn't make any sense, are you really willing to put everything on hold for him, just be in neutral until he comes back... If he comes back?" Traci had always supported Andy's happiness but this wasn't Andy, just letting life pass her by.
"I'm not in neutral Trac, I just, I feel such a connection with him, so much so that I walked away from Luke the night before our wedding for a connection with Sam, what does that tell you?" To most people Luke would be an ideal choice; a blue-eyed, blonde haired detective, who had his own place, was emotionally available, to most people he would be a dream come true.
But Luke had his flaws, he was obsessed with his job, he never knew when to take a break and walk away. He always was secretive in a weird way, Andy knew that he and Jo had a past but he knew told her about it she heard threw other people. Their history was a big secret kept from Andy.
Luke also wasn't Andy's ideal. She knew how he felt about her, he made his feeling crystal clear. Sam on the other hand was different, he was dark and mysterious, keeping many of his thoughts to himself, but his actions would give an indication on what he was thinking. For example, he was always 'supportive' of Andy and Luke but when it came to re-certification, Sam released all pent up aggression he had towards Luke.
She knew that if she had stayed with Luke, they would have gotten married, had two kids with a dog, and the matching house with the white picket fence, as stable as that sounded she didn't want the life for herself. She wanted to build a future with Sam, as uncertain as it was she knew she wanted it with him.
It didn't really register in Traci's mind until she heard Andy refer to marrying Luke, Andy still didn't know about Jo. Because Traci knew her best friend well enough to know that she wouldn't stay with someone who cheated.
"Oh crap." Traci said under her breath, before taking a huge gulp of wine.
"Huh?" Andy responding, filling her wine glass again.
It had occurred to Traci that Andy had never brought up Luke and Jo's infidelity, she kind of assumed that with Andy leaving Luke she didn't really care to talk about it because the end result is that they were no longer together.
"Okay, if I tell you this you have to promise that you won't get angry with me, because although you're my best friend and I love you, it kind of wasn't my place to tell you because I assumed that he would have told you himself. I didn't want to get in the middle of your relationship.." She trailed off, not knowing how exactly to phrase this, "But I guess six months is a long time, and enough time for him to get over himself and tell you himself."
"Trac, I love you but you're scaring me, just spit it out already.."
"Luke uhh, he slept with Jo." As she spoke, she looked to see her friends reaction. "See look at your face right now, that's what worries me you look relieved maybe even a little happy at what I just told you."
"I'm happy that I left and that what you just told me wasn't a deciding factor. That if I had found out I would have had to leave because how could I build a life with someone who slept with his ex girlfriend. But instead I left because my heart wasn't in it. Does it hurt that he slept with her while we were together? Yeah, but time's passed, and if Luke still hasn't told me than it only speaks to his character." She spoke with complete confidence, "Imagine if I had found out before I left? Everyone would say that I left because he cheated, like it was my only option."
She never spoke to Luke about what happened, she never addressed, if he wanted to actually tell her face to face, she'd be willing to accept his apology but nothing more. There was nothing that he could say to her that would make her regret her decision to walk away, or following her heart to Sam.
Before she knew it she was back at home after her shift.
Staring at the contents of her fridge, debating on what she was going to make for dinner, someone knocked on her door.
Walking over to her front door she was trying to remember if anyone said they'd be stopping by, then she remembered that Traci said she was going to come by tonight and pick up Leo's jacket that he left at Andy's a few nights ago.
Opening the door her jaw dropped a little, Traci wasn't on the other side of the door. "Sam? What are you doing her?!" She exclaimed, jumping into his arms.
If he was standing in front of her, in her doorway then he must be back. Back and ready to pick up where they left off.
"I, uhh, I had to see you." He said, moving forward with Andy's arms still tightly wrapped around his neck. He was instantly immersed in her smell, the softness of her skin.
"See me because you're back, you're finally home." She said, unable to wipe the smile off her face.
All she wanted for the last six months was to be with him, and now they finally had their chance, or so she thought.
"Not exactly." He quietly spoke into her ear, before putting her down.
I knew if I left this cliffhanger here I'd have something to go off of for the next chapter.
