Batman and Robin at last made it to the stronghold. While Robin was catching up, Batman came across a room with shackles and blood stains on the mat. It was clearly obvious that someone was previously tortured extremely. Seeing Robin catching up, Batman shut the door and had nothing to report. The two kept walking until they got to the end of the hall.
"Why are we wasting time when it's obvious that they've abandoned it." Robin asked but Batman knew better. He quickly told Robin to hush and listened very carefully. Somewhere in the wall he hear a woman crying.
"False wall." He said and felt around until he found the brick that opened up the wall to reveal a metal door. He quickly used one of his gadgets to open the lock and kicked down the door. Inside was a girl with half pink hair and a woman with brown hair holding eachother looking scared to death.
"Please don't hurt us." The woman begged.
"We're not here to hurt you." Batman said the the calmest voice Batman could.
"Batman, thank heavens. Where's Kirk?"
"He's safe." Batman responded and the girl saw Robin.
"Robin! You saved us!" She said and gave him a hug.
"This is really unnecessary." Robin said but the girl slipped something to him.
"Deathstroke told me to give this to you and not to open it until midnight tomorrow. Don't tell Batman." She whispered looking like she would cry any second. Now walking back to her mother, Batman escorted the pair out.
"There's a landing pad on the other side of this stronghold. I'll call Interpol to send in a helicopter. Robin, wait in the plane." Batman said and for once Robin did as he was told.
"Incoming call." The plane said and Robin picked up.
"Speak."
"Hi Robin. How's it going? Did you find them?" Dick asked.
"We did. They are safe. How are you holding up; just out of curiousity." Robin asked immediately hitting himself again.
"I'm feeling better. My wrist doesn't hurt as bad as it was but I'm okay. How's daddy doing?"
"Well. Though you should know better than to call while in the field."
"I just wanted to see how you're doing, and kind of say goodnight early. Sounds like you won't be home anytime soon."
"Fine. Goodnight Grayson."
"Nite Dam-I mean Robin. I love you." Dick said and hung up before Damian could protest anything. Those last words Dick said to him were for some reason affecting Damian more than he wanted it. Then Batman came and it changed his mood completely.
"Grayson called. Said goodnight." Robin said.
"Goodnight Dick." Batman said giving a little smile. "We're done here. Let's go home." Four hours later, they finally pulled into the cave again. Langstrum was fast asleep on one of the med beds and Alfred was dusting the cave. (As usual). Without making a sound, Batman and Robin changed and went upstairs to see something that actually made Bruce Wayne smile. In the living room, Dick was fast asleep with his markers and coloring book pages all over the floor. Bruce gave a little laugh and quietly walked over, gently picked him up, and took him to bed. Damian meanwhile stayed to investigate what exactly Grayson was doing. Where Dick was lying was a small picture. It had two stickfigure kind of things with black hair smiling. One of the figures was taller than the other and had on a black hood and cape on while the other was shorter and had on a yellow cape. At the top and bottom of the page said 'Brothers forever.' Damian stared at the picture for longer then he should have before he rolled his eyes and tossed the picture aside and walked to his room.
After putting Dick to bed, Bruce started thinking about that picture that Dick had drawn of him and Damian. He knew the relationship that Dick wanted was there, but not quite there yet. He needed to find a way for Damian to realize that Dick was in every way his brother as he was Bruce's son. Suddenly he had an idea and went to the living room again to see Alfred cleaning up Dick's markers.
"Alfred?"
"Yes sir?" Alfred said and stopped picking up markers.
"Pack a bag for me and the boys. We're going to London."
Break*Break*Break
"So tell me why we're going to London again?" Damian asked at the London airport.
"Does there have to be a reason?"
"Well incase you forgot, we have an assassin to worry about."
"Well I thought we could have a little break from that and have some family time." Bruce said picking up his luggage.
"We've no time to waste." Damian said.
"Damian, everyone deserves a little break sometime." Bruce said while Dick ran to grab his Batman backpack and light blue suitcase with a circus tent and animals on the front.
"Fine. But don't expect me to relax for long." Damian said.
"Come on you two." Bruce said taking Dick's hand and guided them to Bruce's private car. Bruce then drove the family to the Wayne London Penthouse. It looked like an office building but Bruce explained that it was both an office and a hotel like place for the Wayne family.
"Bruce look! There's a playground across the street. We've gotta go there!"
"We'll see Dick." Bruce said.
"What's the purpose of a playground?" Damian asked.
"It's only one of the best places ever! You get to climb the monkey bars, go down the slides, and my favorite; swing on the swingset." Dick explained.
"Why would you want to climb bars for monkey?" Damian asked making Dick burst out laughing.
"They're not for monkeys. They're for us. You use your hands and climb across them. I'll show you when we go." Dick said still laughing.
"Don't expect me to go."
"Come on Damian. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease." Dick said trying his puppydog eyes on Damian. Damian looked at his father up front who gave a look at him.
"It could be good practice for fitting in with society Damian." Bruce added. Damian then looked back at his brother still giving his puppydog eyes. (Damian glares at me) Rolling his eyes, Damian at last agreed and crossed his arms together. The family then got up to the…
"Small, but durable I guess." Damian said.
"This is just the family room. We have the whole top floor too." Dick said.
"He's right Damian. We have the roof to ourselves too."
"That's not much of an improvement but I guess it will do." Damian said and Bruce took him to his room. It wasn't as big as his room in the manor but it was still fairly large.
"Bruce can we go to the playground yet?"
"I have some paperwork to finish and then we'll go."
"Okay Bruce." Dick said and took his things to his own room. When he came back, Damian sat in the living room looking at a phone.
"What are you doing Damian?" Dick asked.
"None of your business." Damian said making Dick rolled his eyes.
"What can I do to make you happy?" Dick asked.
"You know, you can go do somthing for me." Damian said.
"What?!" Dick asked excitedly.
"Go jump off a building." He said.
"Okay." Dick said not really knowing what exactly Damian told him to do. Dick then went over towards the front door and opened it. After that, he went over towards the steps that led up to the roof. Meanwhile Bruce came back and went to Dick's room.
"Dick? Are you in here?" He asked but got no answer. He then went into Damian's room who was sitting on his bed. "Damian have you seen Dick?"
"No I haven't. I don't know why you're worrying about him."
"Because he's going through a hard time right now. He thinks you don't love him which makes him think I don't love him."
"I don't love him. He's just some orphan…"
"He's not just some anything. He lives here with you and you have to get over the how and why."
"Whatever." Damian said. "I'll never love him now or ever." Bruce gave a sigh and went into the living room to look for Dick.
"Dick? Are you here?" Bruce called out by still no answer. Then Bruce noticed that the door was left open. 'That's odd. I know I closed the door after the boys came in.' He told himself but suddenly he had a bad feeling in his gut. Without thinking, Bruce ran out the door looking for Dick. "Dick! Where are you?!" He yelled. Suddenly he saw the door to the roof was also left open. "No." Bruce whispered and ran up the stairs.
Break*Break*Break
Dick made it up to the roof. There was a cute little patio area with benches and flowers. Towards the edge of the roof was a bench leaning up against the wall. Without giving a second thought, Dick went up and climbed on top of the bench. Then he looked down and saw just how high he really was. Since he was an acrobat, he wasn't afraid of heights but he was afraid that Damian had told him to jump off the building and fall to his death just like his parents did. That's when Dick started breathing heavily and started having a panic attack.
"Bruce!" He called out in fear.
"DICK!" He heard a voice call out in panic. He turned around and saw Bruce running up the stairs in deep panic. Before Dick could blink, Bruce ran at him and grabbed him off the bench holding him as tight as he could without hurting him. Dick then started sobbing into Bruce's shirt.
"I didn't mean to Bruce. I wasn't trying to…" Dick sobbed.
"I know you weren't Dick. It's alright. Deep breaths." Bruce said silently reassuring himself that he got up there in time and Dick was alright. He then took Dick to one of the benches away from the edge and started rubbing his back and rocking him. After a few minutes, Dick finally got calmed down enough to stop crying. "Are you alright?" Bruce asked. Dick nodded.
"I'm sorry Bruce. I wasn't trying to...you know."
"I'm so glad." Bruce said hugging him again. "Do you still want to go to the park?" Dick nodded again.
"Can Damian come too?"
"Sure. Let's go." Bruce said and the two went downstairs.
I could probably stop here and add my tradition of saying to review but I'm not. I want to get this story done asap.
"Hey Damian. We're going to the park. You wanna come?" Dick asked.
"Pass. I seriously don't get the point of a playground."
"You've never been to a playground. How can you know if it's stupid or not?" Dick asked and Damian was silent.
"Because I just know."
"That's not a reason. Just come with us. It'll be fun."
"I don't do fun."
"Damian, you said you want to know about being part of society. Well going to a park is the perfect place to start." Bruce said coming in.
"Fine. I'll come for a few minutes; but I won't enjoy it." Damian said. Dick and Damian got their shoes on, and Bruce took them across the street to the playground. When they got there, Dick ran towards the playground while Damian went towards the park bench. The first thing Dick did was go up the single slide and slide down it. Then Bruce had caught up with him and Dick begged him to go on the see-saw with him. Knowing he couldn't refuse his plea, the two went over towards the see-saw. Dick got on while Bruce stood up with his arms pushing and pulling the handles and Dick went up and down. While both were laughing, Damian looked at the pair with jealousy and ignored their laughing.
When Dick was done, he got off and headed towards the little merry-go-round and sat down. While Bruce was getting ready to push him, he noticed Damian sitting on the bench by himself. Bruce then came over and Dick got his attention and whispered something to him. He then nodded while giving a mischievous smile. "Hey Damian. I meant to tell you. I just got a lead on our little friend." Bruce told Damian and winked at him. Damian got off the bench and ran towards the two. Before he could blink, Bruce had pushed Damian on the merry-go-round and started running with it making it go faster and faster. The two boys spun around and while Dick was laughing hysterically, Damian gave a little smile at how fun this was. Then he realized that he was smiling and tried as hard as he could not to smile. After a while, Bruce stopped the merry-go-round and allowed the boys to get off. Dick went over to Damian smiling, but Damian just gave him a mad look and started walking back to the bench. That's when Dick noticed something was in Damian's pocket. He then had a brilliant idea and sneaked over to Damian. Afterwards, without being noticed, he snached the thing in Damian's pocket which happened to be a pin. Damian suddenly turned around and saw Dick holding his pin. It was very important to Damian because it stood for the Assassins which also stood for his grandfather. Damian made a grap for the pin but Dick ducked and started running towards the jungle gym with his pin. Damian rolled his eyes and started chasing after him. Dick climbed up some steps and started climbing across some triangle-shaped monkey bars.
"You expect to get away from me with them?" Damian asked.
"Come get your stupid pin back." He said and Damian started climbing the bars two at a time. The next thing Dick did was climb up more steps till he got to the top of the jungle gym that had a curvy slide. He then went down since Damian was right on his tail. Damian finally got to the top of the slide and followed Dick down the slide. Then the two ran towards the swing set but by that time, Damian tackle Dick to the ground and grabbed his pin back giving Dick his version of the bat-glare.
"You to admit, that was fun. Come on! Come swing with me. I bet I can swing higher than you."
"A circus brat against an assassin. In your dreams brat." Damian said and the two ran towards the swings. True to his word, Damian swung so high before Dick could even get up in the air. Damian not enjoying this in the slightest looked over at Dick who was having trouble getting in the air. Feeling he had to do something, he jumped off the swing without thinking and pulled Dick's swing back and pushed him as hard as he could without hurting him. With Dick in the air, Damian then got back on his swing and got in the air with him. They continued swinging until the Dick's hand fell into Damian's and they swung at the same height. The two looked at each other in silence. Finally they both smiled at each other and started laughing as they went in the air.
Meanwhile, the boys' father snapped a picture of the two boys holding hands on the swing to his faithful butler in the states. The two boys continued to play together all afternoon and into the evening until the sun was almost gone. Bruce then picked up Dick who had exhausted himself to sleep and guided Damian across the street back to the room.
"He's not so bad after all." Damian told Bruce.
"Your first lesson on becoming a kid is complete." Bruce said.
"What lesson?"
"What you and Dick were doing; playing on the swings and going down the slide. That happiness is what every kid enjoys. I even did at one time."
"I see. Well this is one lesson I look forward to having with him."
OMG! They are so close! Come on Damian! He's your brother and that's final. Anyway this so far was one of my favorite scenes period; especially the playground scene. Also the playground's background music is Touch the Sky from Brave. I know this is the second time I've used disney as background music, but it fits perfectly. Another one that really goes along with the two brothers is Life's too Short from Frozen. Just listen to either version and just tell me it sums up the relationship between the brother right now, especially towards the end. (With just a few adjustments). Anyway I hope you liked it and remember to review.
