Wonka had led the boys into yet another room, one that was all white with a circle platform in the middle and a huge laser gun pointed at it, and on the far end there was a small television. But unfortunately the chocolatier had to leave shortly, saying, "Oh dear, the Oompa Loompas really dinked around with this machine, and not in a good way," with a wink, leaving the two boys alone.
And as soon as the man left, Mike turned to Charlie with a snide expression, "He doesn't like you, you know. You're too ugly, I'm the cute one. There's no way he's going to pick you over me."
It felt like Charlie had been punched in the gut, what if that was true? He could feel his eyes begin to tear up as he let that sink in. He really liked Wonka and he loved the factory, if he didn't get to stay he'd be crushed. Soon tears streamed down his cheeks, making his eyes red and puffy. But soon he heard Wonka walking back into the room and quickly wiped them away.
Despite Charlie's best efforts to look like he hadn't been crying, Wonka could tell he had been. Immediately Wonka knew it must have been Mike's fault, he must've said or done something nasty to Charlie. Well, Mike would pay for making his favorite boy in the whole world cry, Wonka decided.
The chocolatier gestured for Mike to come to him, "Come here, I think you'll really like this." Mike walked to Wonka, shooting Charlie a snide smirk as if to say 'I told you so'. This made Charlie feel even more like Mike was right and he felt like running away.
Wonka led Mike to the large circle platform and told him to stand on it; the boy gladly did so, grinning. With a vicious smirk Wonka signaled to an Oompa Loompa to pull a lever. When that lever was pulled a beam came shooting from the gun, hitting Mike. Mike disappeared and Charlie looked at the spot where he had been in shock. Wonka grinned, amused by Charlie's reaction, "Look up," he said, pointing above them, "He's floating around as billions of atoms!" He took Charlie's hand and led him quickly to the television, Charlie blushed from the contact. The man squeezed the boy's hand in excitement, "Watch! He's going to appear here soon."
Charlie couldn't believe his eyes, Mike did appear inside the television, and the weird part was that the television was really just a box and Mike was a small person within it. Mike looked at them with amazement, "Wow! I'm small! How did you do that Wonka?"
The chocolatier chuckled darkly, "Oh, you will never know." He picked Mike up at bent down to set him on the ground. Before either of the boys knew what was happening Wonka stomped down on the shrunken boy, crushing him beneath his shoe like a bug. He looked at Charlie who had wide eyes, "He was a pest. Don't you agree?" Charlie nodded with a blank expression, what do you do or say about something like that? Wonka began to walk back towards the door with Charlie's hand in his while calling to an Oompa Loompa, "Clean up on isle seven!"
So now Charlie was the last one standing, the last one alive, and he was a bit scared, but also oddly thrilled. As he walked with Wonka all he could do was wonder what would happen to him; what did Wonka have planned for him?
