...

And bright the day was. The Moors hadn't shone like this in a very long time, and the creatures which lived there basked in their golden sunlight.

As Aurora and Maleficent walked past them, they all bowed in respect. It warmed Maleficent's heart to see them look at her without fear. Aurora played like a small child with the pixies as Maleficent sat behind, watching her child.

Diaval had flown off somewhere during the first morn's light, but worried little of where. There was no need to go to the palace, and she hardly thought he would. In all her years of knowing him she'd known that he'd always enjoyed flying for as long as possible when she'd given him the opportunity. He was most likely soaring through the crowds or bothering the neighbouring kingdom's farmers.

She felt the sleeve of her shawl being tugged, and when she looked down she was surprised to see one of her subjects offering her a small bouquet of flowers. Just as they had done Aurora when she'd been firstly introduced to her new home. Smiling, she accepted the gift.

It did not go unnoticed that the Queen had regained her wings, or that with her wings she seemed a lot more content.

Diaval swooped above her, circling the tree before landing softly beside her leg. He transformed into his human self, a sarcastic grin already plastered to his face.

"The prince travels towards the kingdom. With his steed he shall be by the brook in no less than thirty minutes." Diaval announced, glancing at Aurora.

"So that's where you've been all morning? Checking to see if Beastie's prince was coming."

"I think the Fates were with us today Mistress. How coincidental that he should show up today?"

"Never mind the Fates. Beastie needs to catch him, no doubt he'll stop at the brook anyway but we still mustn't miss him." She stood up, her wings shaking out behind her.

As she went to walk towards Aurora, Diaval caught her waist in a loving embrace.

"When did you become such a romantic?" He asked against her ear, ticking her stomach gently.

"What can I say? I'm a big fan of true love." She murmured against him, pushing herself away. Diaval smirked, meaning to chase her.

The faerie was much faster than he however, getting many feet ahead of him with a single flap of her wings.

"Aurora!" She called, grinning as her goddaughter was caught unawares and nearly fell into the bogs. "Come here, with must go on a walk."

...

Aurora was very excited, bouncing up and down in front of her godmother as they walked.

"Is Diaval sure?" She asked for the umpteenth time.

"He said he was. Aurora, don't run ahead you'll fall."

"I mustn't miss him Godmother, this is the first time he's been back here in months!"

"Oh trust me, he will wait for a times." Maleficent smirked, sweeping herself towards the young princess.

"Godmother..." Aurora groaned in annoyance, quickening her pace.

"Fine, fine," Maleficent rose her arms in surrender. "Go on then, I'll keep Diaval at bay for as long as possible."

A smile grew on Aurora's face, and without skipping a heart beat she took off towards her old home.

When she did arrive, out of breath and panting, she did her best to look natural. She could hear the footfalls of his horse approaching the stream.

"Good morning." Phillip said as a greeting, to which Aurora rose and bowed to him. He did the same to her, kissing her hand as if he knew the princess she was.

"I see you've returned, is it... proper business you return for?" She asked sheepishly, "Or can I invite you to sit with me?"

"I return with a trade agreement from my father, good news for both kingdoms." He elaborated, yet still sitting by the stream.

Aurora sat next to him, blushing slightly as he took her hand in his.

"I've missed you. Couldn't get you off my mind." Phillip told her, smiling charmingly towards her.

"I missed you too." Aurora said, putting her other hand their clasped ones, "I like you, and I feel like I should be straight forward in who I am."

"I already feel like I know you however."

"You know me, and it's wonderful and I'm glad you do, but I've lied about who I am."

"Whatever it is, I'm sure I can handle the truth."

"Do you remember the story you told me? Of the princess and the faerie in the Moors?"

The prince nodded, staring at Aurora as she went on.

"Well, I actually already knew it. Just not like that." She fidgeted, looking up and around and struggling for words. "You see, I grew up not knowing who my parents were, and I," she cut herself off again mumbling, "There's no easy way to say this, I'm the Lost Princess."

Once it it was out she seemed to deflate, analyzing his reactions. The main one she could see, was shock.

"What?" He asked in confusion.

"The story is wrong. Almost all of it."

"How, how is this real?" Phillip wondered, waiting for her to go on. "I'm sorry it's just a bit much to process."

"I know it's a lot, and if you would allow me, I'd like to tell you the rest of the story."

"Yes, yes of course. Please, I need it for I am very confused." Aurora nodded, glad at his willingness to listen. She was also glad he never once accused her of lying or having gone mad.

So Aurora recounted it, briefly describing her Godmother's and her father's friendship, but elaborating on what the King had done to her godmother.

"And when I was born, Maleficent was so hurt, and she was angry and needed vengeance, so came to my christening. You know of the curse," Phillip nodded, urging her to continue. "and you know how my father sent me away."

"As I said, the cottage I lived in was not far from the Moor, and my aunties, however I loved them, couldn't look after me." Aurora grinned now, assuring him the story got happier for the moment.

"Diaval would come to me, starting the day I began living here, so in my infancy, and took care of me. Hushed me to sleep, fed me when I need it, even kept me clean."

"Diaval?" Phillip asked, which Aurora replied with by telling briefly his story to that point.

"Anyways, Maleficent never got too close, but she watched from a distance. Keeping me safe, allowing Diaval to be the one friend I had."

"And one day, when I had just turned fifteen, she took me to the Moors. It was wonderful to finally be inside, but even more so to meet who I announced as my Faerie Godmother. She was shocked, expected me to scream or cry or run away."

Aurora smiled fondly at the memory however, "But what else would a little girl think, seeing this woman in the ghost of your eye and making friends with her shadow. She looked out for me, and in the books I read, that's what they do."

"She kept allowing me in, and in a short time, I loved her. Really, that love had been stored away for when I met her, and the same for Diaval. I finally met him in his human form."

"I found out of the curse, and in anger ran to my father. The curse began to take control and my godmother raced to save me. She hoped you were my true love, so she brought you."

Realization dawned on Phillip, how he'd awoken in the empty chambers of the princess without knowing how.

"But she got to me in time, and saved me. I found out what the King had done to her, and that all but sealed my choice to return to the Moors. Godmother made sure I wanted to, told me I could leave whenever I wanted, she didn't kidnap me."

"He, the King wasn't happy. He captured a tortured my godmother, twice. There were so many ups and downs, it only strengthened the love we hold. I do not want to go back there, I want to stay with my godparents."

"Godparents? You mentioned Maleficent, but who the father?" Phillip asked, surprising Aurora with his acceptance that Maleficent was not evil.

"Diaval, he raised me, and it was clear to see that the two loved each other."

"Her familiar is her love?"

Aurora nodded eagerly, "And I understand if you don't want to meet me anymore. Especially because I don't leave the Moors often. Not with the King's guards around."

"I almost don't want to do trade with him."

"No, you should do this. For the kingdom he has neglected."

"You would of made a beautiful princess."

"I retain my status as the Princess of the Moors. For my godmother is queen."

"I wish I could marry you." Phillip whispered, tucking a wisp of hair behind her ear."

"You would do well not to, I cannot give you an heir. Nor do I wish to leave my kingdom."

"Then perhaps I will produce an heir with another, and simply love you."

Aurora's smile lit her face, and she embraced the young prince.

"You'll visit often right?" She asks in delight, as the two tip over.

"Whenever I can, and thus joining our kingdoms together I hope."

She smiled, and kissed him again, and it was passionate. She was laying on her back, kissing upwards towards him.

This time, they were perfectly synchronized.

...

"Shouldn't I go to check on them?" Diaval moaned against her ear.

"They're kids, I'm sure they're fine." Maleficent whispered back, grasping his hair.

"I suppose you're right." He murmured, continuing his path up her throat. She moaned against him, and he tried to extinguish the protective instincts he felt. "I'm just going to check on them..."

"Diaval..." Maleficent whined as he pushed himself away from her. "They're fine."

"Unless you've been keeping me here so they can be fine." He accused, a mischievous glint in his eye.

"I-I did no such thing." The faerie defended, but upon seeing his look, she relented, "How'd you know?"

"You were trying too hard to keep me there." Diaval smirked, "Unless I'm just that good of a kisser."

"Don't flatter yourself." Maleficent said with an eye roll, fixing her shawl back onto her shoulders. "Go if you're so worried then."

Diaval pecked her lips, rushing off towards the sound of the stream. His mind too preoccupied to change himself. Maleficent just smirked and began walking at a steady pace.

Phillip felt Aurora's arms wrap around his neck, and he leaned down to whisper to her, "I think the second kiss is going better than the first don't you?"

"Yes, which is why we should shut up and keep going." She whispered back, rolling him onto his back.

He smiled at her, tenderly caressing her face. They closed their eyes, letting the intimacy of the moment settle.

"Alright that's enough!" Phillip heard a man say, and felt Aurora's weight being lifted from himself. He looked up and the blushing Aurora, who'd been lifted from him like a babe.

"This is Diaval I take it." Phillip mused, standing and brushing himself off. His ears burned, as he fixed his gaze on the hard one of Aurora's godfather.

Diaval hadn't exactly thought through what would happen after he acted. It was instinct to him, this was his fledgling. Of course he was possessive.

"Diaval!" Aurora cried out, embarrassed, trying to disentangle herself from Diaval. "Seriously? You couldn't wait like, two more minutes?"

"Certainly not." He replied, one hand protectively against her back. "I'm an animal at soul Aurora, we're not patient creatures."

"So, you're Aurora's, uh, godfather." The prince stuttered, "It's a pleasure to meet you." He held out his hand, and Diaval stiffly shook it.

"You're Phillip." Diaval deadpanned, squeezing his hand a little too tightly. "I know who you are. My name is Diaval, Aurora is my goddaughter."

"Aurora's told you of me." Phillip said, retracting his hand with a small shake. He charmingly smiled at the man, which faltered slightly at his stare.

"Told her godmother of you, I prefer to know first hand."

"Oh." Diaval was enjoying making the prince squirm, maybe more than Aurora would like.

"Diaval..." Aurora hissed from behind him, and he gave her a reassuring glance.

"You seem like a nice boy, a good fit for Aurora." Diaval went on, sizing the prince up, "And if you make her happy then I suppose I can accept you."

"Thank you sir." Phillip said, smiling and tipping his head. Diaval grinned slightly as well, this time offering his hand to shake.

"Just remember that if you hurt her, I can turn into any animal I want to, at any time." He whispered, shaking the boy's hand roughly.

Not knowing what to say, Phillip just nervously nodded his head.

"Is Diaval being a nuisance again?" He heard another silky voice wonder, turning his head from the godfather to what he assumed was the godmother.

"Of course not Mistress." Diaval replied, bowing to her and stepping back. Yet his stare still held strong.

Phillip bowed to the faerie was well, knowing her to be the Queen of the Moors.

"No, we were just acquainting ourselv-" Phillip began, before being cut off by Aurora.

"Yes, a complete and utter nuisance." She told her godmother, crossing her arms and frowning.

Maleficent arched a perfect eyebrow upwards, sending a quick glance towards Diaval.

"I'm sure you've found that Diaval can become, protective, at times."

"I think any family who doesn't choose to protect a jewel such as Aurora, doesn't deserve to have such treasure." Phillip supplied.

"Well said." Maleficent replied before Diaval could. "I'm Maleficent, I do hope Aurora has told you of me."

"She has." Phillip assured, glancing at the blushing girl.

"I understand you have an alliance with King Stefan's kingdom, which I have no problem with. Unless, it puts Aurora at risk, then you are as much as an enemy as he is." Glancing at Diaval she added, "But I'm sure you've been warned. This however, is a joyous occasion."

"I will do nothing but treat her right, and when I come to visit I will tell the King nothing of her."

"Good." Maleficent gave him a satisfied smirk, "I'm afraid Aurora must come home with me, but I give my word that when you return, I shall have you as my guest."

"Thank you," Phillip bowed his head. Gesturing to Aurora he asked, "May I?" To which the queen nodded.

"Now he asks." Diaval grumbled, watching as Phillip kissed Aurora's hand.

"I thank you for your kindness, I shall look forward to my next visit." Phillip announced, mounting his horse.

Maleficent tipped her head, an image of grace, and watched as he rode off into the distance.

"Quite a catch Aurora, very polite."

"If he could learn to keep his hands to himself." Diaval added, changing into a raven.

Maleficent and Aurora shared a glance, before bursting into fits of laughter.

A.N: There you have it! Sorry again about how long this took me, I've got myself a job now, so it's still a little cramped. I wrote another family feels piece!

I think Diaval would act quite like that, if he caught his fledgling in a compromising position.

Thank ni you for reading, favouriting, following, and reviewing! One chapter to go!
