"Luka is there something wrong?"
Yuki asked the Opast with worry in his gentle eyes. Luka had begun acting strange ever since Yuki met with him to find him carry a bouquet of roses and pink carnations.
On the other hand, Luka was finding his encounter with that girl a little odd. It wasn't his first time interacting with human women, but it was rare that Sodom got so friendly with her in the first place. There was something unnerving about her, almost as if she were older than him, but that was impossible.
She was the same age as Yuki.
But her written words at the time unnerved him.
I'm glad he has you by his side.
What did she mean by that? Did she know about the Zweilt? Was she one of them? And just who exactly was she referring to as him? Was it Yuki? But then how did she know Yuki?
There were too many questions concerning this woman. Perhaps she was one of the Zweilt?
"Luka where did you get these flowers?" Yuki asked fingering the fragile petals.
"…" Luka wasn't sure how to respond. "It was… a thank you gift." He mustered not sure if that was the best way to describe it.
"A gift?" Yuki knew Luka was kind but his hesitation still bothered Yuki. "From who?"
"She fell from the rooftop."
Alarmed Yuki asked frantically. "Is she alright?! Why did she fall?"
"… Sodom forgot she was human."
"Ehhh?" Yuki mumured concerned. "Did she smell human?"
Not that Yuki mentioned it, Luka realized why he couldn't understand his comfort in sitting next to this girl.
She didn't smell human.
In fact, she had a mixture of smells, on her one was the scent of sunshine and laundry detergent. But the other smell, was the scent of a duras.
Not one Duras.
She had the scent of two Duras on her.
It was a small flower shop, but somehow it interested Tooko on her shopping trip with Lia and Sairi. It wasn't a very busy street, but it wasn't exactly empty either.
Lia and Tooko had already finished shopping and had Sairi carrying their bags.
"So are you two done shopping?"
"Mmm Ah! What about some flowers?" Tooko suggested pointing to the flower shop ahead.
However, beneath his shades, Sairi narrowed his eyes a little suspicious.
There was something a little odd about the store. There were numerous flowers in the window and even outside the shop.
Except there was no name on the flower shop.
A girl had her back to them so they couldn't see how she looked like, but she seemed to be watering the flowers on this hot day.
A cat strolled past the trio walking towards the girl. It tapped its furry paw against her leg to get her attention.
The girl stopped to take a look at her foot noticing the cat. In response, she crouched down to its level and listened to the cat's meows for a couple minutes.
Just what exactly was she doing? The three wondered.
No one said a word out loud, but the girl turned around to go back to the shop to grab a jar of water and a small bouquet placing them in the water. She then began walking to the nearing road crossing not even minding the traffic.
"What is she doing?" Lia asked in wonder.
However, Sairi stayed silent observing the girl's actions. The girl didn't stop until she reached the lamp post the cat led her to where she crouched down to gently place done the vase of white chrysanthemums. Not one did he get a glimpse of her face.
There was a gentle smile on the girl's face as she clapped her hands in respect. The cat also bowed its head before it held its paw towards the girl.
She shook the cat's paw not minding the weird looks she was getting from the passerby. Lia was watching Sairi's weird stare of the girl in question.
"Sairi-kun are you okay?" Tooko questioned a little worried for the older man.
"It's nothing. I just remembered that I have to pick up some flowers for Auntie."
Unknowingly, the girl looked up meeting their gazes revealing her blue green eye curious of their heave stares.
Especially the male's glowering gaze.
She nodded in greeting before taking a bucket of flowers back into the shop. She was wearing a beige apron over a baby blue dress that went down to her knees. Her hair as usual was tied simply into a loose french braid.
She looked up noticing the three staring at her.
She waved hello with a smile before turning her attention back to the black cat. It was almost as if she was communicating with the feline. Tooko found it similar to her own younger brother who wasn't much of a talker. They had the same aura, kind and understanding.
However, the girl did a double take at the sight of Sairi. It was almost like she was trying to place where she had seen the young man before.
For a moment she and Sairi had a short stare down , but she didn't back down. She held a clear and honest stare with no hidden intentions.
But there was something familiar about her. Sairi just couldn't put his finger on it. Was it the way she looked at him? Serious and knowing? Or was it the aura she had around her that reminded him of someone else?
She smiled clapping her hands together once. For some reason, she walked towards them pulling out a note pad and began writing.
"Sairi, is she one of your fangirls?" Lia asked.
Was she asking for an autograph?
The girl stopped abruptly making eye contact with all three of them before laughing silently. She shook her head and pointed to the flower shop.
Did she want them to go with her?
Without much residence the trio followed her into the shop. As the door opened, the three were bombarded with the fresh scent of flowers and tea.
With excitement so evident on her face she urged them all to take a seat by the couches as she went inside to get the tea.
"Ara Sairi, what are you doing here?" A voice from within the shop belonging to Kayako Shimnei, Sairi's aunt.
"I should be asking you the same thing Auntie." Sairi commented surprised that Kayako had the strength to leave the house so soon.
"I just wanted to have some tea with Hanae-san today." Kayako introduced "Hanae-san, this is my nephew Sairi-kun, his friend Tooko
Murasame and his partner Lia Otona."
The young woman smiled gently nodding her greetings before scribbling note on her note pad.
"It's nice to meet you." Then turning to Tooko she wrote You must be Tsukumo-kun's sister.
"Eh?" Tooko blinked. How did this girl know her brother?
The girl silently laughed softly at Tooko's surprised expression.
"She's one of your classmates, probably a year younger than you Tooko-chan"
"Eh?! You got to Izumi Academy?"
Hana nodded in response.
"You're a first year then." Lia added "Then we'll see more of each other at school."
She shrugged not sure of this sentiment. Something in her gut told her if she kept on going to school she'd come face to face something she wasn't allowed to see.
"Say… are you perhaps the one who decorated the school in flowers?"
Hana nodded not sure how that had to do with anything. Are they not to your liking?
"No, no it was just unexpected."
Beauty is meant to be cherished while it lasts. Hana wrote. The same goes for life.
Hana jumped at the sound of the kettle boiling over. She nodded her head politely before going to the back to get the kettle.
It made Sairi wonder. Why did she make a new batch of tea when she had already served it to them?
Kayako wasn't surprised anymore at her eccentric actions. "She's making tea for her visitors."
Tooko and Lia looked around themselves not seeing anyone else but them in the shop. There were only the flowers surrounding the four of them.
"I don't see anyone else."
"But she does. She has a sixth sense about these kind of things." Kayako responded.
"It's been bothering me Kayako, but by any chance can she not…" Tooko asked
Kayako smiled "You're right, she can't speak."
Kayako glanced in the young woman's direction. "Sometimes I wonder myself as to how she copes without a voice. She's strong."
Hana on the other hand was much more interested as to why Sairi seemed so hostile.
"We should bring Yuki with us next ti-" Tooko was cut short when a loud crash came from Hana.
Startled she had let the tea cup slip out of her fingers. There was something in the back of her mind that was fighting its way to her conscious. There was a flash of an image from a long time ago. A young girl with long light brown hair in a traditional kimono sitting alone in her room. Her wish kept echoing in Hana's head.
I don't want to be alone.
Could this be the Yuki they were speaking about?
But it didn't seem right.
Why would Hana know Yuki?
"Hanae-san are you alright?" A voice interrupted her train of thought. Hana's turquoise eyes widened before she met Tooko's eyes/
Hana immediately smiled in reassurance bending down to pick up the shards of the shattered tea cup.
There goes another cup Hana thought. I wonder, if I could somehow make one before sundown...
Tooko blinked. "How are you going to do that?"
Hana abruptly looked up with surprised eyes. …You can hear me?
"Yeah, I can am I not supposed to?"
Hana attempted to hide her surprise by picking up the shards one by one with care.
Was it because they were siblings that Tooko could hear her just like her younger brother? It was nice knowing there were people who could hear her 'voice'
However, Tooko was asking herself ; how could there be someone with the same ability as Tsukumo? Unless… she was one of the Zweilt.
She had the same ambience as the rest of them, but there was something out of reach about her. Almost as if she was someone not of this time.
Maybe it was the ways her eyes seem to gloss over as if remembering something from long ago. Either way there was obviously something different about her. A good different to be exact.
"Are you alright Hanae?"
Hana smiled reassuringly to the group and more towards Tooko she conveyed I'll be right back Tooko-san.
The brunette made her way past Sairi who was giving her an intense gaze for reasons unknown to her. But it made her feel like there was something that she should've known herself.
It had something to do with his eyes. She knew at least that much.
She went outside to place the glass into the trash bin when an a gust of wind came right her from behind. Out of instinct she tightened her grip on the glass making her wince at the sharp pain she received in the process. She could feel the glass as it pierced her skin in various spots and then she heard a voice.
"You really do look like her."
She blinked not recognizing the dark tone. Turning her head slightly she noticed Sairi behind her. She immediately smiled wondering what made him step outside the shop.
She turned her head back to the task at hand which was to dispose of the glass shards which were now stained in her blood. The crimson liquid dripping down her hands and glass.
She dropped the glass into the bin, but her hands were still stained with blood.
"If you don't treat them properly, you'll scar your beautiful hands." Sairi murmured in a low persuasive voice. He reached to grab both of her hands into his own guiding her to sit on the bench in front of her store.
Hana was at a loss at what to do as the young man treated her wounds. It must've shown on her expression since he put on a friendly smile and reassured her. "Don't worry, I'll be gentle."
That's not what she was worried about. There was something dead about his eyes that made her sad. Like Sairi promised he was careful as he disinfected her wounds and cuts. She watched as he expertly wrapped the bandages around her cuts.
But it made her wonder. Was that really just a gust of a wind? It almost seemed like it was intentionally trying to injure her. As far as she was concerned she had no idea who or what could've down it other than Mother Nature.
After a couple of minutes Sairi finished bandaging her up in which she bowed in gratefulness. But that look in his eyes was still there. Almost as if he was recalling something he did not wish to remember. Her hand was still in his. In return she spread open his palm so she could write her thanks on his palm on another note she felt she needed to add one more thing to her thanks. With her other hand she lightly brushed the skin below his eyes.
You also care for him in your own way.
Sairi was a little surprised that she knew that. So she did know Yuki.
She blinked at little surprised at her own words. But inwardly she knew her mind was hiding something from her, every time she tried to recall something farther than sixteen years something in her head halted any prodding.
Almost as if someone didn't want her to know. But it had never bothered her, she always tried her best to stay positive.
"You know who he is then." Sairi prodded.
She tilted her head and shook her head.
No I haven't, but one day I'd like to see him.
Sairi didn't trust her one bit. She was too kind, to happy to really be human. She was the same as Yuki always staying positive for the sake of someone else. It made him despise her. She was the type who could see beyond your exterior, but her shadow was bothering him.
The shadow seem to have a mind of its own almost as if something had taken refuge in the dark form. This young woman didn't seem to notice the abnormal way her shadow moved on its own that it was enough for him to notice.
But he had a nagging feeling that he had seen her before. There was something nostalgic about her.
The way her blue-green eyes seemed to gloss over. She smiled cheerfully and reached a hand towards him pulling a flower out of nowhere.
In her hand she held a yellow rose in which she handed to the blond man. She offered the bloom to the young man however he didn't accept.
"Sairi-kun," Lia called from the front door in which he looked up. "We need to leave now, Takashiro is calling for us."
"I'll be right there." Sairi responded to Lia. Hana smiled knowingly and took the opportunity to place a bouquet into his hand leaving him no time to reject. She turned her back heading into the back garden, turning her head she waved goodbye disappearing from sight.
"What do you think Sairi? Do you think she's really a Zweilt?"
"I can't say for sure. It's the first time I've seen her, but she does have that feel to her." Sairi admitted. Sairi knew right away this 'Hanae' was hiding something. Even if she acted open about it she was a very secretive person. As he scanned his surroundings he noticed one of the shards of glass that girl had held just a moment ago. There were still signs of her blood on the shard in which he bent down slowly to pick it up with two fingers.
It might be underhanded but he called Takashiro.
"It's rare of you to call me Sairi. Is there something you need?"
Sairi answered observing the shard of glass. "Would it possible for the forensics team to analyze this blood sample for me."
"Is there something wrong?"
"No… I just have a feeling it could be important."
He needed proof that she didn't belong to one of the Main houses of the Giou. And if she did… which family did she belong to?
Sairi's expression darkened for a moment that left Lia looking worried for Sairi's sanity.
Something told her there was more to this girl than they really knew. Even if she was innocent, innocence was never permanent.
As Hana watched them go, she felt the air grow colder making her shiver. There was something in the air that didn't go well with her.
The tree in her backyard was in truth a graveyard for the dead. That was because nearby her home was a church and cemetery where she would often visit.
There were numerous flowers that needed to be prepared for the funerals that happened daily. She was in charge of handling all the flowers.
That was why the cemetery was always in full bloom with every family grave a bunch of flowers were planted in their memory depending on which they preferred when they were alive.
It was always quiet except for the murmurs of those who have passed came to speak to her. Through the flowers she could hear every word they spoke to her.
Today she had visited earlier finishing her rounds which was why she had been at the flower shop today. She made the new batch of tea for her other guests coming in. She made two cups leaving them on the patio table in her backyard as she tended to the other flowers.
It was time to plant some new ones to replace those that have passed on.
Good afternoon, everyone. She began. How was your day?
The flowers swayed slightly and just like usual spirits began to rise up from the plants. Souls of different sizes appeared before her, the young, the old, the innocent, the criminals there were all kinds of characters that she met though these plants and trees. However not all plants had souls like them, but most of them did.
A little strange today. The number of people watching you increases day by day. One of them mentioned.
She smiled not minding the attention. I'm sure they're not bad people.
That's what gets you into trouble. You're too soft hearted for a being such as yourself.
She used a small shovel to dig up a small hole and plopped some glowing seeds into the ground. Really? Sometimes I wonder if doing this is the right thing. Taking you away from heaven or hell. Keeping you here on earth.
She patted the dirt gently and smiled.
You need to think about yourself sometimes Hana. It's not your fault that he died.
Hana smiled sadly. It was my selfishness that caused all of this.
He merely granted your wish Hana. There's nothing wrong with your wish. It was something any woman would have wished to do.
Hana wiped her hands on her apron cleaning the dirt off her skin. Sometimes, I wish I could see him and confirm with my own eyes if he's happy right now.
But I no longer remember who he is.
Hana went to the watering can she'd left by the japanese porch and went on to water the flowers.
I'm sure he'll love you no matter what.
I wonder about that. She said with an unsure smile. It's for the best if he never knows.
"Best for who not to now?" A voice crept from behind her.
In response she jumped in surprise almost head butting her speaker under the chin. Her eyes widened as she realized it was just Luzé.
She smiled fondly. Welcome home.
Luzé however stayed silent not sure how to respond. He had rushed to get here after his task of looking for openings in the Zweilt's barriers, but without any luck. He had stayed in his military uniform rather than changing into something less conspicuous.
She noticed his silence seeming to know without asking about his lack of knowledge on common greetings.
Luzé if I say good morning how would you respond?
Luzé gave a curt nod without a word.
What about if I say Good afternoon?
He gave the same curt nod.
What if I gave you a bowl of rice?
The same curt nod.
She couldn't keep the smile off her face. She silently chuckled. Luzé you can't do that every time someone greets you.
"Am I supposed to say something?" Luzé frowned confused at her amusement, he didn't think he had done anything funny.
She began When someone says 'good morning' you say 'good morning' in return the same with good afternoon or goodnight.
Before eating your meal you must pay your respects and say Itadakimasu. (Thanks for the meal)
And when someone says 'Welcome home' you should say 'I'm back'.
She lifted her blue green eyes to meet his and she poked the wrinkle that had appeared on his brow. Was that too much? Gomen ne, but it's something every person should know.
"I don't see how it makes a difference."
She smiled and lifted one finger. Just say it one time. You never know.
Luzé unable to resist her pleading sighed and reluctantly agreed. "I-I-I'm… back."
In response she smiled brightly with flushed cheeks happily. Welcome back.
Luzé blushed bright red not used to saying such mushy and soft words. It was a really strange feeling having someone happy to be in his presence.
She really was unbeatable when it came to these embarrassing things.
While she was still smiling to herself happily he finally noticed the apron and her dirty appearance. She'd been gardening once again.
She looked up once again noticing the dirt she'd accidentally placed dirt on his forehead.
Eep! Gomen I got dirt on your face. She clumsily grabbed a handkerchief from her apron wiping the dirt off his face. She noticed there seemed to be animosity coming from behind her.
"It's fine" He said brushing her hand away.
She frowned slightly a little worried at the distance he put between them.
Is there a reason why you won't show me your hands?
He wanted to touch her. Run his fingers through her hair, the pale white skin of her neck, her small pick lips.
But he wasn't being honest with her. Not telling her that he was a duras. That his hands were soiled with blood. He was a murderer. He was a monster after all.
Are you afraid of me?
She asked a little sad.
"It's not that." Luzé tried to deny, but Hana didn't look convinced. She mustered a smile reassuring the older man. She didn't want to pry too hard if he truly hated it.
It's fine. You don't have to tell me anything.
"I'm not afraid of you. I want to touch you, but" He stopped himself.
What the hell did he just say…
She blushed flustered because she was thinking the same thing. She didn't know how to respond her face reddened in embarrassment.
"No! What I meant was-"
She revealed a tiny smile from behind her hands. I feel the same.
Luzé couldn't help but blush in return at his own words.
Her turquoise eyes lit in delight glad that she wasn't the only one.
Luzé carefully took both of her hands into his inspecting the bandages that wrapped around her fingers.
"What did you do to have this happened?"
It's nothing serious. Just my own carelessness. She reassured lightly rubbing her nose to his in an Eskimo kiss. He didn't know how to react but he didn't hate the motion. He rather liked it.
"I'll take you back… home."
She blinked surprise at his forward words, but it made her happy. She nodded shyly.
He let go of one of her hands, but he kept her right hand in his. Even though his gloves still separated them, there was something more intimate than last time they held hands. Somehow telling each other their thoughts had made them feel closer to each other.
Their hands laced together unconsciously as they left her backyard. But Hana glanced at the cups of tea she had left behind including the teapot. The cups had been taken without her noticing, but she knew there had been someone watching her.
Whether he or she was a friend or foe was another question altogether.
But that was a story for another day.
They were all connected in a way Luzé, his lookalike, this 'Yuki', Tsukumo, Tooko, Lia, and Sairi. Somehow she felt that if she reached out towards them, she wouldn't being able to stop her tears. Somehow she felt that she may be responsible for making them sad.
In that moment a gust of wind blew directly on the back of her neck causing her to flinch. Something sharp had pierced her skin igniting a fire in her skin almost as if she was burning. She winced in pain falling to the ground. Luzé, startled stopped "Hana!"
She gritted her teeth, but she muttered. I'm okay. Really.
She managed to smile properly and stand up. I didn't realize I was more tired than I realized.
Luzé wasn't convinced but he nodded. Without thinking he swept her into his arms carrying her bridal style all the way to her house.
Ah, Arigatou Luzé. It feels nice being in your ar…ms…
Luzé held her close to his heart. He wondered secretly, quietly, comfortably looking at the girl in his arms.
Why was his heart beating so fast?
Elegy however was amused at how easily Luzé was rattled by this human.
"How sneaky of you, putting a curse on her." Cadenza noted.
"She was wide open. Really I don't see what's so special about her. She's so fragile and weak and fake it makes me laugh."
Cadenza smirked. "It'll be interesting to see what he does…"
Elegy licked her lips and smiled "You're right. After all…"
"She won't be alive for much longer."
It's been a while since I updated so a longer chapter than usual \^_^/. I finished the chapter, but now on a good note for the two. -_-'
But now things are slowly beginning to change and I can't wait to figure out what to do next for these two. ^_^
With Hana in danger and Luzé unaware, not to mention Sairi's suspicion, things are going to get tense.
Please review and comment on what you think:)
And thanks for reading.
