Sorry about the long wait, guys. I promise you'll be getting a lot more from this story now. Now back to the story:
"I'm not so sure about this, Roo," Winnie whispered as they and Pooh gazed out at the busy New York streets from behind a cluster of trees.
"Neither am I," Her brother whispered back to her. "But the plan does seem pretty simple. We just sneak into the smellyphone…"
"Telephone!" Pooh corrected him.
"Oh yeah, telephone booth and find out where Christopher Robin is."
"Not really. I think people are definitely going to notice a huge bear, a kangaroo and a tigger/kangaroo hybrid," Pooh said sarcastically. Roo was taken aback. The old Pooh wasn't this grouchy. Life here must have changed him a lot. He certainly seemed a lot smarter.
"Well, we need to try if we ever hope to get home," Roo pointed out. Winnie clung onto him, obviously scared. She had become more wary ever since she had found out that they weren't stuffed animals anymore.
"Okay, quiet as possible," Pooh hissed at the siblings. He took one step out from the woods before they heard a deafening shriek. A woman caught sight of Pooh and ran. The rest of the street was alerted and within seconds the streets were empty. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Roo and Winnie exchanged confused glances. Why were this people so scared of them? "Well, that was quite easy," Pooh walked to the telephone booth and squeezed inside it. He gestured for Roo and Winnie to join him. They couldn't all fit inside, so Roo waited outside while Winnie squeezed in beside Pooh.
"So, what are we looking for, Pooh?" Winnie Asked.
"Christopher Robin Milne," Pooh recited Christopher Robin's full name. "Winnie, I need your help. I can't read," Pooh admitted.
"That's okay. I can! Mom taught me," Winnie told Pooh proudly. She began flicking through the pages of the huge book that was in the booth. After a few minutes Winnie gasped and showed Pooh what she had found. Pooh felt tears sting his eyes as he saw the name of the person he had missed all these years. There was a number printed beside Christopher Robin's name. Pooh tried to grab the phone only to have it drop to the ground.
"Um…Winnie, could you help me?" Pooh asked, embarrassed to have to ask an eight year old for help. Winnie nodded and picked up the phone with her paws. "Just push these buttons," Pooh pointed to the phone number with a claw. Winnie slowly put in the numbers to make sure that she got it just right. She then pressed what she thought was the call button. Turns out it was. The phone didn't work though.
"Pooh, I think this thingy's broken," Winnie said. Pooh looked at the ground, embarrassed.
"I've just remembered. We need money to use the phone," The black bear said.
"What's money?" Winnie asked, scratching her furry head.
"Well, money comes shaped like tiny metal circles and it can also come in green pieces of paper," He explained.
"Well what do we do now?" Roo, who had been listening form outside, asked.
"Next to his phone number it says where he lives," Pooh explained.
"Grove Street Apartment, Room 31," Winnie read aloud.
"Then let's…" Roo whipped around at the sound of sirens. A few of those shiny metal monster sped down the street. Some people in uniforms got out and pointed weird metal things at them.
"Are they friendly?" Winnie asked Pooh, tugging on his shaggy fur.
"I don't think so," Pooh whispered to them. Roo hopped forward a few paces.
"Stay back!" He ordered the people. The man with the guns jaw dropped. Had he just heard a kangaroo…talk? Pooh used his jaws to tug on Roo's long tail. "What?" Roo hissed at the bear.
"Are you crazy? RUN!" Pooh grabbed Winnie and threw her onto his back. He began charging down the streets, Winnie clinging to his fur, trying not to fall off. Roo turned away from the people and hurried after his companions. Suddenly, Roo felt a sharp pain in his rear. He craned his next around and saw a strange pointy thing in his bum. The kangaroo quickly pulled it out and threw it aside; ignoring the sharp pain he got from it. Pooh and Winnie turned a corner and ran down another road. Roo turned back and saw the people getting in the machines with wheels. He heard the sirens again as he turned the corner and caught up with his sister and Pooh.
"So, do you know which way to go?" Roo panted, struggling to match the bears pace.
"Not quite. I know roughly where it is, but…" Pooh never finished his sentence because he heard an explosion. Roo looked over his shoulder and saw the machines following them. One of the men was hanging out the window on one side of the machine, holding another of those weird metal things.
"We can't outrun them. We need to hide!" Roo told Pooh. Pooh nodded and made a mad dash for a bush. He dove into it and Roo followed closely behind. The people had obviously seen them go into the bush. Roo held his breath as the metal things on wheels screeched to a halt. He heard footsteps approach the bush they were in. Winnie whimpered and clung onto Pooh's furry back. Suddenly they heard growling and a scream. Roo dared to peek out from the bush. He tried not to gasp as he saw three of the wolves from earlier stalk up to the people. The people froze in fear and ran when the wolves lunged at them. They ran up the road as fast as their skinny legs could carry them. Roo sighed in relief and realized that Pooh was clambering out of the bush. The kangaroo pulled Pooh back in. "Are you crazy? You're going out there after what happened. Face it, there is no way a huge bear, a kangaroo and a kangaroo/tigger hybrid can go through this place without attracting unwanted attention!" Roo ranted, finally agreeing with his old friend.
"Roo, I'm sure that those people won't be coming back here for a while. Anyway, if I'm correct, we need to go this way," Pooh pointed down the road with a claw. The rest of their journey was peaceful. All of the people had heard of the animals going around New York and had hidden inside. They arrived at Grove Street Apartment after many twists and turns. Pooh stuck his head through the door.
"Hello sir," The doorman greeted them. He then noticed he was talking to a giant bear. He rushed into the break room and the sound of a lock clicking into place was heard.
"Well, that was easy," Pooh shrugged. He squeezed through the door and waited for Roo to follow.
"Now where do we go?" Winnie, who was still on Pooh's back, asked. Suddenly there was a beeping noise and a metal door in the wall opened. A woman stepped out, but screamed when she saw the animals. She rushed back inside the tiny room that the door led to and began frantically pressing a button inside it. The door finally closed.
"Just a wild guess, but I think we should go in there," Roo said. He hopped over to the door and pushed the button on the wall. The door opened after a while and Roo went in. "Whoa, this place is claustrophobic," He commented.
"Hey, don't use words I don't know to describe something," Winnie scolded her brother. Pooh squeezed in the room and the door closed. Winnie read the number 31, the number of Christopher Robin's apartment, on the wall. She pushed the button next to it and the floor began to rise, making Winnie squeal in alarm. It was cramped in there, most of the space being taken up by Pooh, the rather fat, bear. The door opened into a hallway. "Where's Roo?" Winnie asked.
"Here!" A muffled cry came from behind Pooh. Pooh stepped out into the hallway and Roo took a gulp of air. He had been pushed against the wall by Pooh and he looked a little squished. "What did you think that wriggling was?" Roo asked Pooh.
"Indigestion," Pooh replied, rubbing his round tummy. Roo grumbled and began walking down the hallway. Kanga had taught him to read, too and he could see that the numbers on the doors were going up as he walked. 28, 29, 30, 31! Roo stared at the number on the door. Christopher Robin was in there. The friend he had missed for so long was in that room, clueless that he was standing outside. He rose his paw to knock, but drew back. Why was he so nervous? Was he scared that Christopher Robin wouldn't remember him.
"Knock," Winnie commanded her brother. Roo finally got the courage to knock on the door. For what seemed like forever the door stayed closed. Just as Roo began to lose all hope that Christopher Robin was in there, the door unlocked and opened. A twenty-something year old man appeared, his shaggy brown hair slightly flopping into his brown eyes. He gasped and tried to slam the door. Pooh put his paw in the doorway so he couldn't close it, even though it hurt.
"Wait!" The bear ordered. The man peeked through the crack in the door, looking bewildered.
"Y-y-you t-talked!" he stuttered.
"We're looking for someone who lives here," Pooh said calmly.
"I'm the only one who lives here," The man replied, trying to shut the door again, clearly freaked out by a bunch of animals outside his apartment. Pooh's jaw dropped.
"Christopher" He breathed. The man started back at the black bear. "Christopher Robin? Is it really you?"
"You know m-my name?" The man, now revealed to be Christopher Robin stammered. "What do you want with me?"
"Nine years ago you played with stuffed animals: a piglet, a rabbit, an owl…a bear." Pooh listed. Christopher Robin stared into Pooh's round black eyes.
"How do you know that?" He asked.
"I was that bear, Christopher Robin," Pooh smiled at his old friends, tears welling in his eyes. Christopher Robin's eyes widened and his mouth gaped into an O shape.
"Pooh bear…" He breathed. Suddenly, he fell backward onto the floor, unconscious.
"Have you killed him?" Winnie asked innocently.
Things will start to get more interesting now. Stay tuned!
