Chapter 13

The Godfather

It was early in the morning, the streets of Konaha were quiet, few people having woken up yet. Kakashi walked down the quiet roads on his way to the Hokage tower, he had been summoned by the Hokage but was told it wasn't urgent so he was taking his time, of course for Kakashi that meant it could take hours.

Kakashi didn't disappoint in that respect, it took him two hours to walk the five blocks to the Hokage tower, Konaha's streets were now bustling with villages and ninja alike going about their morning business. Kakashi walked into the tower and went up the stairs giving a wave and eye smile to the receptionist who ushered him into the Hokage's office.

"Ah finally Kakashi, good of you to show up" Hiruzen commented mildly annoyed at Kakashi's tardiness.

"Yeah we've been waiting for you for hours!"

Kakashi didn't try to hide his shock "Master Jariya?" Kakashi hadn't seen Jariya in years, he hadn't been back to the village since the Kyuubi attacked

"The one and only" He said with a wide smile

"Jariya arrived in the village late last night" Hiruzen explained

"Well it's good to have you back in the village" Kakashi said with an eye smile "why did you come back though? It's been years, did something happen?"

Jariya and Hiruzen shared a glance "I called him back" he took a deep breath "as much as I don't like the idea, Naruto needs someone to teach her how to control herself, after the final exam she will be leaving with Jariya so he can teach her."

Kakashi was surprised but had to admit he hadn't made much progress with her in that department "No offense but are you sure? She knows me and her parents chances are she knows about Jariya as well, I'm not sure she would respond any better to the god father that was never there then she did to me."

Hiruzen had thought about that but there wasn't a whole lot of choice, Naruto was getting worse the display with Neji had only reinforced his opinion that she needed someone like Jariya to train her away from the village "She will learn to accept it."

Kakashi really wasn't sure she would but it wasn't his place to question the Hokage "If it's what you think is best"

"Let's talk about Naruto, how does she know about Minato and Kushina anyway?" Jariya had been wondering that since he had received the message from Hiruzen a couple weeks before.

"Kurama told her" Kakashi answered

"Who's Kurama?"

"We don't know" Kakashi again answered offing no information

"We don't know who Kurama is, Naruto claims he saved her after the attack when she was six and has protected and trained her since but no one has ever met or even seen him. We might have thought he was just someone she made up to get through that hard time but the effects of his training are defiantly there. Naruto has grown incredibly powerful, far more powerful then she could have ever become on her own." Hiruzen explained

"What do you mean no one has ever seen him? Don't the ANBU have her under constant surveillance?"

"They do, that only makes it more disturbing, whoever this Kurama is he is incredibly powerful to be able to somehow train Naruto without being seen, especially with such powerful jutsu. Under his tutelage Naruto has mastered both fire and wind elements and has become a fox summoner."

"A fox summoner? There hasn't been a fox summoner in centuries, how could she possible have become one?"

"We don't know but whenever we get any answers about Kurama they bring up a thousand more questions and Naruto isn't exactly open to talking about him." Kakashi stated

"Whoever he is he is dangerous, and Naruto is completely dedicated to him. I fear she is more loyal to Kurama than the village." Hiruzen said

"I see, and from what I've heard about her through my spy network she has become violent and bloodthirsty. Is what I about what she did in the land of waves true?"

"It depends on what you've heard" Kakashi answered

"I've heard that she killed Zabuza Momichi and his apprentice single handedly before massacring Gato and a small army of his minions on the bridge, they call it the bridge of death."

"That's all true, if a bit less gruesome then what actually happened."

"Less gruesome? What did she do?"

"Calling it a massacre is an under-statement, she tore the mob apart, and literally ripped the head off Gato but the worst part was the sick smile she had while she did it. The bridge of death is a fitting name for it." Kakashi had never really been able to accept what Naruto had done on that bridge, he had seen and done some horrible things, but the look of pure joy on Naruto's face while she did it was the most disturbing thing he had ever seen.

"I see why you called for me then, if Naruto has truly gotten so bad someone needs to rein her in before it's too late."

They sat in silence for a few moments before Hiruzen spoke again "Kakashi, go get Naruto, it is time to tell her."

Kakashi nodded and left.

Naruto woke up, her eyes slowly opening to the bare chest of her lover, she was absolutely content. Gaara played lightly with her hair, she didn't know how long he had been up but she knew she had never been happier. She lifted her head and looked into Gaara's eyes "Good morning" he said with a content smile that made Naruto smile widely.

She kissed him "good morning to you to" this was something she had always wanted, someone to be there when she woke up, someone to love and care for her, her life was finally getting to where she could genuinely be happy.

Naruto didn't want to get up yet, she knew that once she did this moment would be over and life would start again and she wasn't ready for that yet. She cuddled closer to Gaara and laid there in his arms hoping that the moment would never end. Gaara felt the same way, for all his life he had been alone but now he had her, and she was all he needed for as long as he lived he stand beside her loving and protecting her no matter what.

Unfortunately for both of them it wasn't long before there was knock on the door, Naruto growled softly "Who could that be? No one ever comes here." They tried to ignore it and just lay there but whoever it was was persistent and continued to knock. Naruto groaned and forced herself up throwing on a long shirt to cover herself up before going to the door. Gaara also got up and started putting on his pants.

Naruto went to the door and threw it open to stop the infuriating knocking "What?" she said annoyed as she opened the door.

Kakashi was on the other side of the door and was slightly surprised to see Naruto standing there in just a long black shirt, her hair flowing messily around her. "Naruto the" he stopped as he saw Gaara step out of Naruto's room in nothing but his pants. Gaara glared at him for a moment before turning to look in the fridge. Kakashi couldn't help but notice the long red scratches all over Gaara's back and couldn't help but comment of them "Naruto aren't you a little young for" he gestured to Gaara's scratched back.

Naruto turned slightly red "That's none of your fucking business!" God damn Kakashi putting his stupid nose into everything she did "why are you even here?!" she growled at him.

Kakashi frowned he hated how much hostility she always showed him "The Hokage sent me, he needs to talk to you as soon as possible"

"Fine, you delivered you message now go away, I'll go see Jiji as soon as I get dressed."

Kakashi nodded and left to return to the Hokage tower.

Naruto groaned and turned to Gaara "I've got to go see the Hokage" she said as she moved towards the bathroom.

He intercepted Naruto and put his hands on her shoulders "I'll come with you" Naruto smiled at that.

"How about a little fun in the shower before we go?" she suggested with a sly smile

Gaara returned the smile "How could I say no." he kissed her and she led him to the shower.

Gaara waited by the door while Naruto finished tying up her hair. She came out of the bedroom and smiled at him "I'm ready, let's go."

They ran across the rooftops heading for the tower, they had probably taken more time than they should have but Naruto didn't care she was happy and nothing could ruin it.

It didn't take long for them to get to the tower, they walked toward the door but were stopped before they could enter by a loud screech "Naruto!"

They turned to see Konohamaru running toward them with his two friends Udon and Moegi "Hey Konohamaru" Naruto said with a smile and a wave

Konohamaru got to her and jumped at her, she caught him in a hug "Where have you been? I haven't seen you in like a week!"

She put him down "I was kicking ass in the chunin exams."

"Oh yeah, jiji said something about those, did you win?"

Naruto laughed "Of course I won! I beat the shit out of that stuck up bastard Neji"

"Awesome!" the three sung in chorus

"I want to be as awesome a kunoichi as you when I grow up!" Moegi cheered

"I'm sure you will be if you work as hard as you can" she couldn't help but smile around these three they had been a real help to her, whether they knew it or not they had helped her through some hard times.

Konohamaru looked to Gaara who stood uncomfortably behind Naruto "Who are you?" Konohamaru said flattening his eyes to try and intimidate him.

Naruto wrapped her hand in Gaara's and gave him a wide smile before looking back to her pseudo little brother "This is my boyfriend, Gaara"

Konohamaru kept the glare for a few seconds before giving a massive smile "Cool, I'm Konohamaru" he stuck his hand out for Gaara to shake "and this is Moegi and Udon" they both waved timidly from behind him slightly scared of Gaara's powerful presence.

Gaara stared at the hand for a second before grabbing it and shaking "a, pleasure to meet you" Gaara said unsure.

"Nice to meet you too" He shook Gaara's hand vigorously squeezing has hard as he could trying to be intimidating "but if you hurt Naruto, you'll have to deal with me" he said it as low and deep as he could to try and make it sound menacing.

Gaara cracked a small smile, this child threatening him was one of the funniest things he had ever seen.

"Alright Konohamaru we have to go see jiji now, we can have lunch with you after though."

Konohamaru let go of Gaara's hand "Alright Naruto, see you at Ichiraku's" they started running off down the street and he called back as they went "Say hi to jiji for me"

Naruto waved back before leading Gaara into the tower. They proceeded to Hiruzen's office and Naruto greeted the secretary, somehow she had never learned her name despite having regularly seeing her for years.

"Naruto, good you're here, the Hokage is expecting you" she said with a friendly smile "your friend is going to have to stay out here though."

"Alright" she turned to Gaara "wait here, I'll be right back" she smiled and kissed him before entering the office.

Naruto walked through the door and closed it behind her, Kakashi was leaning against the wall by the window and Hiruzen was behind his desk but there was someone else there sitting in a chair, his back was facing her so all she could see was his long white hair.

"Ah Naruto good, you're finally here" Hiruzen said slightly annoyed, of course the only Kakashi had passed to Naruto was how to be late.

"Hey jiji, why did you need to see me?" Naruto was wary this meeting didn't seem like a social call.

"There is someone you need to meet Naruto." With that Jariya stood up slowly and turned to face Naruto with a small smile.

Naruto's heart jumped into her throat and before long her anger was bubbling up.

"Hello Naruto I'm…"

"I know you are, Jariya" she spit his name out like venom. She looked to Hiruzen "Why the hell is he here"

Hiruzen frowned this didn't look good "That's why I called you here Naruto" he paused to take a long drag from his pipe "Jariya will be taking you with him to train, after the final exam of course."

Naruto couldn't believe what she was hearing; jiji was sending her away, with him? "What?!" she screamed.

"Naruto! That is no way to speak to your Hokage!" Kakashi scolded

Naruto didn't care "Fuck you! I'm not going anywhere with him" she hissed

"Naruto" Hiruzen said calmly "I am your Hokage, you will go with Jariya as you were told"

Naruto seethed she didn't give a shit that he was her Hokage she wasn't going "Fuck you I'm not going!"

Hiruzen slammed his hands on his desk and stood "You will not speak to your Hokage like that! You are going whether you like it or not, this isn't a discussion."

Naruto was surprised she had never heard her jiji yell before, but that wasn't enough for her to back down. She growled at him before turning around and storming out throwing the door open so hard it cracked the wall where it slammed.

Gaara was standing not far from the door having been on edge when he heard Naruto start to yell. "We're leaving" she said as she stormed past her voice seething with anger, Gaara didn't say anything he just followed her out the nearest window.

Hiruzen sank back into his chair and sighed that had not gone well.

"Well, that went better than expected." Jariya said jokingly.

Naruto and Gaara jumped across the rooftops away from the Hokage tower, Naruto was still fuming from what had just occurred. Gaara jumped in front of her causing her to stop, he put his hands on her shoulders "Naruto what happened?"

Naruto's anger subsided a bit looking into his eyes, she sighed "They're making me leave the village, with a man I hate."

Gaara looked into her eyes for a few moments before responding "Then I'll go with you."

Naruto gave a sad smile "I don't think they will agree to that, not to mention that your father isn't likely to give up his Jinchuriki."

"It doesn't matter; I'm staying with you, no matter what. Let them try to tear us apart, they will fail."

Naruto teared up and wrapped her arms around him laying her head on his shoulder "thank you"

Gaara held her tight in his arms "I will never leave you"

After a few minutes of standing there in each other's arms Naruto pulled away and wiped her eyes giving him a small smile "we should probably get to Ichiraku's, Konohamaru isn't the most patient person."

"Lead the way." He returned the smile "What is Ichiraku's anyway?"

Naruto smile widened "It's the best ramen shop in the village!" she grabbed his hand and started pulling him toward Ichiraku's.

"Where is she! She said it wouldn't take long, we've been waiting forever!" Konohamaru complained

"Come on Konohamaru, she had to talk to the Hokage, maybe it was important." Moegi suggested

"Yeah, she's probably got some important mission to protect the village or something." Udon added

"Yeah well still, she said she'd be here."

"Well I am so stop complaining" Naruto said as she landed behind him with Gaara.

Konohamaru smiled widely "Awesome, let's eat!" he ran to the ramen stand and took a seat Udon and Moegi following close behind.

Naruto and Gaara took their seats and Teuchi was quick to greet them "Naruto! Good to see you, and who is this you're with?"

Naruto smiled "This is my boyfriend Gaara, and Gaara this is Teuchi"

Teuchi stuck his hand out and Gaara accepted it "Nice to meet you son"

Gaara took his hand and shook "Nice to meet you too"

Konohamaru quickly grabbed Naruto's attention "Hey Naruto can you teach us something cool after this please! It's been weeks since you've shown us anything new!"

"I don't know Konohamaru I don't know if you're ready" she teased, this continued for a while.

Teuchi took the opportunity to talk to Gaara "I must say it's nice to see Naruto so happy, she's lucky to have you, I'm surprised she's never mentioned you before."

"Well we only met a week ago"

Teuchi raised an eyebrow and started preparing their food "Only a week ago hu? The way she looks at you you'd think she'd been in love with you for years." He gave a stern expression "That girl has been through a lot of pain in her life, you better not hurt her anymore."

"I would never hurt her."

"Dad are you harassing him? I swear every time Naruto come's here with a boy you give that speech, give him a break I've never seen Naruto so happy." Ayame said

Naruto turned her attention back to Gaara and Teuchi "Hu, what's going on?"

"Just a friendly conversation" Teuchi said with a smile, Naruto looked to Gaara and he nodded.

Ayame then set their food down in front of them "Enjoy"

Naruto ate at her usual obscene rate engulfing eight bowls, no matter how many times she did it Teuchi could never understand where she put it all.

"So what did Jiji want?" Konohamaru asked as they finished their meal.

Thinking about it brought back the anger she had felt when it had happened "He wants to send me away, with a man I hate."

"What?!" all three children cried in unison

"He's sending me away with Jariya claiming it's a training mission, that man isn't fit to train a dog." She hissed

"Who's Jariya? And why is he sending you away with him?" Konohamaru questioned distressed, they couldn't send Naruto away, what would he do without her?

"He's a very bad man, and I can only assume that I'm being punished for something."

"No I won't let him" Konohamaru jumped out of his chair and started running toward the Hokage tower. Naruto could have stopped him, but this would probably work in her favor.

Konohamaru ran up the tower and burst into Hiruzen's office to the objections of the secretary "You can't do it!" he screamed.

Hiruzen looked up from his paperwork "Konohamaru?"

"You can't do it you can't send Naruto away I won't let you!"

Hiruzen sighed, of course she would enlist Konohamaru's help "Konohamaru this doesn't concern you."

"Yes it does! You can't send her away"

"Konohamaru, I know you don't like it but it is important and it's happening."

"Why is it important?! Naruto is already really strong why can't she just train here?!"

"The training Naruto needs isn't the kind she can get in the village, I'm sorry but I can't tell you anything more"

"You're lying you just want to send her away with the bad man!"

"That's enough Konohamaru! She is going whether you like it or not." Konohamaru opened his mouth to yell again "I am your Hokage! It is not your place to question my decisions, I am doing what is best for the village. This is the end of it now go home." He said it sternly and gave a look that made Konohamaru back down.

Konohamaru pouted but left without anything further.

Hiruzen fell back into his chair and rubbed his temples, this whole ordeal was not going well, he was too old for this.
