Bloodborne: Knight of Blood
Chapter 2
As the beast fell, so did my blurry vision and nauseous craving for blood. I came to my knees and rubbed my eyes, clenching the handle of my blade as I resisted the temptation to go out and find more beasts to slay. I had a goal, though still I could not remember it. I was sure, however, that it was not to become drunk off of the blood, and have my life ended by one such Hunter of Hunters. I pulled myself to my feet and shook my head. "Pull yourself together, Edward…" I told myself, hoping to regain some of my fading intelligence by keeping my mind at work.
The beasts howl in the distance, signaling for me to get moving. As I ran throughout the streets, frequently stopping to take cover from the plague-stricken hordes that only see men as beasts, I thought of what I was attempting to accomplish, and what the whole point of it was. I remembered the vacuous spider, I remembered that woman in white, blood stains covering her elegant dress. I remembered the beasts… So, so many beasts… And I remembered the moon turning red, and the nightmare growing ever more present. And I remember not seeing the world the way it was anymore.
I halted just as I saw a dark figure in my way. For a moment, I assumed it was a beast, and reached for my blade in anticipation. Then he spoke, and I recognized his voice. He turned to me and said, "Edward? Is that you?" My hand fell from the handle. At first I had trouble finding the words. "Y-Yes… It's me…" The man walked towards me and tipped his feathered cap in courtesy. "I thought I'd never see you again after you went into Ludwig's chamber. Does that mean that the leader of the church hunters has fallen?" My head pounded, and I began to recall that horrible room, filled with bodies that still spoke and felt pain. And I remembered a horrible beast, it's hundreds of eyes glaring at me as it murdered me. But I also remembered that I fought well, and when he started to fall, he remembered something, and ended my life with that blue moonlight… "Edward?" I snapped out of my haze, and looked up. "Saint Ludwig… He… He hasn't fallen. Not just yet. But… That beast will get what's coming to him, whether it be by my hand or by that hand of a more capable Hunter."
"Well good on ya," he spoke in his cheerful voice. "Just ring your resonance bell if you need me. I'm always ready to be summoned." He turns around and runs through the alley, disappearing around a corner as I contemplated still what had happened in Ludwig's chamber.
