Shadow of the Jedi
Chapter 19: What is happening to my life?
It had been two weeks since Fay told Nico that the Council had taken his blood without his consent. The Ghost King was given those two weeks to calm down, but during those weeks the Council have been keeping a close eye on him, just to make sure he isn't a threat to the security to the Jedi Order or the Republic, obviously Fay had told the Council about his anger toward them, and that's the reason why they are 'spying' on him, and in truth Nico was getting very fed up with there not so subtle spying.
During those two weeks Nico was introduced to Ahsoka's best friend, Zhia Phantox, and Nico had only one word to describe her as. Cold, and that's what made him like her, its about time he found a Jedi that wasn't all warm and fuzzy and completely strict about the Jedi Code, it was also an upside to find out that she was willing to support there relationship, though she did give him the sisterly warning of 'hurt her and you die'.
Anyway, a week ago, Anakin and Ahsoka had shipped out with the 501st Legion, apparently the Separatists had captured Sullust and they sent Anakin and Ahsoka to recapture it. But for some reason the Council kept Nico behind in the Temple, much to his mounting anger and annoyance.
The Ghost King spent most of his time around that Sith Holocron he had found in Angral's possession, trying to figure out a way on how to open it without alerting the other Jedi, unfortunately, so far, he hasn't been successful. He's also been spending some time with Tracy, apparently she's going to become a Padawan soon and she'll be going out to gain her lightsaber crystal. Nico has also been looking for an in particular assassin droid, but it seems that the instrument of chaos is hiding from the Ghost King as if its afraid to face him, which is weird in itself seeing the fact that its meant to be an emotionless drone, but it was also understandable, Nico didn't know the amount of fear that he was letting off when he last saw the droid, but he remembered that it was enough to make it take a step back.
Right now, Nico was in the Council Chambers, he had been summoned by Windu for a meeting, but once he arrived he noticed that only two seats were filled, and that was Yoda's and Windu's.
Nico walked to the centre of the room and nodded his head toward the two Masters, ever since he had found out that the Jedi had taken a sample of his blood he had become much less respectful toward them, he would have hoped that the Jedi would respect his privacy, but of course, he was wrong.
"You summoned me?" The Ghost King stiffly questioned.
Windu nodded, "Yes, we have a mission for you."
Nico raised an eyebrow, Oh really? "And what might this mission be?"
"We received an old Jedi distress code that came from the Chrelythium system." Windu said.
Nico frowned in thought, Old? "When you say 'old' what are we talking about?"
"Two thousand years old, the message is." Yoda stated calmly, waiting for Nico's reaction.
Nico's eyes widened before he immediately calmed down, and he looked at the Jedi Grand Master with both brows raised, "That's impossible," He said, narrowing his eyes, "No one can live that long."
"Just like how it is possible, that Gods exist, young Di Angelo?" Yoda questioned.
Nico fell silent at that, he couldn't argue when he believes in immortals.
"Are you sure its a Jedi distress signal?"
Windu nodded, "We're sure Di Angelo, we want you to find out where the message is coming from and find out who sent it. But just in case its a trap you'll be met up by a Venator Star Destroyer." the Jedi Master ordered firmly.
Nico narrowed his eyes, he was kind of surprised that the Jedi were entrusting him with a task like this since they haven't exactly been on the friendliest of terms lately, "Why me? Why not send a Master like Fisto or Secura?"
"On missions, every Master are on. Send Ahsoka, Kenobi and Skywalker we would have, but dealing with Separatists on Sullust, they are." Yoda said.
"So I'm your final option?" Nico questioned dryly, gaining two nods from the Jedi Masters, making him sigh, "Alright, when do I leave?"
"Immediately."
Line break
Nico frowned as he made his way through the halls of the Jedi Temple toward the hanger bay, he couldn't believe this, the Jedi were entrusting him with this assignment? Why? It doesn't make any sense. They have already proven that they don't trust me so why are they entrusting me with this? Nico mentally shrugged, Well, they do have an entire Star Destroyer filled to the brim with fully armed Clone Troopers to keep an eye on me, so I wouldn't exactly be that worried if I were them.
Nico rolled his eyes, he was being paranoid, ever since Fay told him about the blood sample his trust in the Jedi Council has been lowering more and more, so much so that he was thinking of just leaving. But he couldn't do that to Ahsoka, no, he wouldn't leave her unless he was forced to, and even then, he would find a way back to her.
Gods, Nico thought with a mental shake of his head, I better not be going soft.
"Hey Nico!" A voice called from behind him, making him turn around to see Tracy and a group of Younglings with a Master he had never met before headed toward him.
Nico smiled, "Hi Tracy," He said as he waited for her to catch up with him, "Where are you going?"
Tracy smiled brightly, "We're headed toward the hanger, I'm finally going to Ilum to get my lightsaber crystal." After she said that the entire group of Younglings cheered, causing the Master that was escorting them to chuckle slightly.
Nico smiled as he fell into step with his young friend, "Congratulations Tracy, I can't wait to see who picks you as there Padawan."
Tracy beamed, "I can't wait either, I hope its Master Fay, she's nice. Anyway, where are you going?"
"The hanger, just like you," Nico said, "I've been given an assignment by the Council, its all very hush hush." He said the last part with a roll of his eyes.
Tracy pouted, "Does that mean you can't tell me what it is?"
Nico raised an eyebrow, "Yes." He said dryly, causing a disgruntled look to appear on Tracy's face, slightly miffed that her innocent look wasn't working on Nico.
They continued talking until they reached the hanger, where there separate ships were waiting for them.
"Alright Younglings!" The Jedi Master called out, gaining there attention, "I want you all to line up in an orderly fashion and board the drop ship without any mishaps, understood?"
"Yes Master." They all said in unison.
Nico turned to Tracy, "Looks like you've gotta go, I'll see you later alright?" He said as he turned to leave, but he was interrupted from his walk toward his ship by the small youngling grabbing his hand.
"Wait, Nico!" Tracy said in a frantic tone.
When Nico turned toward her with a raised eyebrow he saw that she was biting her lips nervously with a blush creeping on her cheeks, making him frown in concern, "What's wrong Tracy?"
The Jedi Youngling gulped nervously, "Well, I just wanted to give you something-because you've been such a great friend to me, you know, dealing with my bully problem and not treating me like a freak like the other Padawans do-I made you this," She said in a very shy tone as she reached into her robes pocket and she pulled out a silver bracelet. Hanging from the bracelet were the letters that spelled out FRIENDS. It had the look of being newly made.
Nico eyes widened, and he froze for at least five seconds. He couldn't believe this, this was probably one of the nicest things someone has ever done for him. Unfortunately, during those five seconds, Tracy got more and more nervous during his silence.
"I-I mean, if you don't want it that's fine," She said as her blush became more noticable, "It's not much b-but I-" She was interrupted by the Ghost King, who kneeled down and looked her in the eyes.
"I love it Tracy." He said as he delicately took it from her hand and slid it onto his right wrist, the wrist where his watch wasn't on.
The blushing face was soon replaced by a beaming little sunshine as the Youngling-soon to be Padawan-pulled the Prince of Death into a bone crushing hug.
"Really?" She questioned as she pulled away, "I made it myself-wait, did I already say that?" She interrupted herself with a frown before she shrugged and smiled at him again.
Nico smiled back, before he narrowed his eyes in thought, "Unfortunately, I don't have anything for you." He said as he tapped his chin.
Tracy shrugged, "It doesn't matter, as long as you always have that on, it will mean that you'll always be my friend." She said enthusiastically, though Nico still had his eyes narrowed, but he was now looking at his hand thoughtfully.
Nico suddenly grabbed the skull ring that was on his left hand, slid it off of his finger and held it in front of him looking as if he was inspecting it, "This ring is very important to me," He said in a thoughtful tone as he held it out toward her, making her eyes widen, "It was a gift from my father, one of the few gifts he ever gave me really, and so, to show you how much I trust you as my friend, I am entrusting you to keep it safe for me, okay?"
Tracy's eyes were wide, whenever she's around Nico she always sees him wearing that skull ring, it may not be the prettiest thing in the galaxy but it was obviously important to the son of Hades.
Tracy looked into the dark orbs that are Nico's eyes, though they held a little light as he stared at the Youngling, "Are you sure Nico?"
Nico smiled at her, "I'm sure." He said as he grabbed her left hand and rested it in her hand.
Tracy smiled at him and was about to open her mouth to thank him, but she was interrupted by the Master that was escorting her, "Come on Tracy, its time to go!" He called from the ship.
Nico grinned at her as he stood up and ruffled her hair a little, making a small scowl appear on her face, "Get going Tracy, you've got a lightsaber to build."
Tracy lost the scowl and beamed up at him before running toward the ship that would drop her and the rest of the Younglings off to Ilum, she waved goodbye to Nico and he waved back before the ship doors closed.
Nico sighed as he looked at the silver bracelet the little girl made for him with a small smile before heading toward the ship that would be taking him to the system where this Jedi distress signal is coming from.
Little did Nico know that he would not be seeing Tracy Beach for a very long time.
Line break
Nico had just come out of hyperspace on the Jedi transport ship, he was sitting in the Pilot seat while also checking out the scanners to make sure this wasn't some Separatist trap. Unfortunately, there was nothing on the scanners apart from one lone Republic Star Destroyer, meaning Nico won't be able to blow something up.
The Ghost King sighed, it had been a long jump through hyperspace, but thankfully he was getting close to where the beacon had originated. Nico looked out of the viewport and frowned, the scanners said that the Republic Cruiser was meant to be right in front of him and, unless his vision was starting to get all screwy, nothing was there.
Nico turned his ships communications array on, "Captain of the Abyss, this is Commander Di Angelo, do you copy?"
At first there was silence, then, "We hear you loud and clear sir." A Clone voice said through the intercom.
Nico sighed, "Well I'm at the location where the beacon originates, where are you?"
"We're at the area as well Sir. But there is no sign of you on our scanners." The Clone Captain Replied and Nico could here the frown in his voice.
"You sure? Cause I see you on my scanners but I definitely can't see you in my view." Nico said as he peered through the expanse of space, he was pretty sure he would be able to see a giant white ship with red stripes in this expanse of darkness.
The Ghost King frowned, Something's wrong here. The Captain is at the same coordinates as me but he can't see me on the scanners?
Suddenly, the intercom started to gain interference, "Unable to...zzz...find you...zzz...where are you?...zzz..." The communication with the Captain of the Abyss was dead.
Nico's frown deepened, "Well, this isn't good." He muttered as he stood up and slammed his hand on the communications device to try and get it working again, a good old fashioned technique, and all of the power in the ship went down, making him groan "Should have seen that coming."
Nico checked the scanners. Damn it, He thought angrily as he stared at the blank screen, Dead. Power Converters. Dead. Life support. Dead. That thing that made my seat go up and down. De-wait a minute! He thought in alarm as he looked back at the life support, Oh, crap.
The moment he thought that the power came back on, making him frown in confusion before he just shrugged and headed back toward the pilot seat to make sure the communications array was working again.
"Abyss, I lost you for a second there, what were you..." Nico trailed off as he saw something through the viewport and his eyes widened, the communication only answered back with static. "What in the name of Olympus is that?"
In front of his ship was some kind of gigantic crystal-shaped structure. It had red markings all around it but its main colour was black. Nico was looking at it with wide eyes, Okay, things are starting to get creepy.
Suddenly the power, once again, was cut off, making Nico growl, "Seriously." But before he could do anything his ship started moving toward the crystal shaped structure, and Nico could feel that it was not a tractor beam that was pulling him toward it, someone was using the Force to take him toward the crystal.
The giant crystal opened up revealing a bright light, and Nico was helpless to do anything. All he could do was watch with wide eyes as his ship was sucked into the giant crystal, Nico squinted as the light became brighter and brighter before he blacked out completely.
Line break
Nico groaned as he raised his head from where it was laying on the pilot controls, he rubbed the back of his neck, feeling a slight pain but nothing to bad, he looked around the cockpit to see nothing had changed, the power was still off, which wasn't exactly that much of a plus in Nico's point of view.
Nico frowned in confusion, Who landed this damn thing? He thought as he glanced through the viewport and his eyes widened as he saw what was outside, green grass and trees along with some hills, but that's the thing, Nico doesn't remember there being any land mass on the scanners, the last thing he remembered was being sucked into a giant crystal that looked like a giant version of a Sith Holocron.
Nico frowned as he checked the scanners, which were apparently the only things that were working, It's some kind of organic mass, the reading indicate that it's bigger than an asteroid. Nico scowled, he was getting confused now, At least the atmospheres breathable.
The Ghost King then checked the readings and a confused look appeared on his face, "Well, this is weird." He muttered, he couldn't even lock down where in the galaxy he was or even if he was in his own galaxy.
Nico sighed as he looked around the ship once more, he could honestly say he has never been more confused in his life. The ships systems seem fine but for some weird reason nothing is working.
The Ghost King shrugged, "Guess that leaves me with one option." He muttered as he headed toward the ships exit and went down the ramp, he wasn't about to just sit there and wait for what happens next.
Once he was outside his eyes had widened even more, the planet, or whatever you'd like to call it, looked like any ordinary planet with a beautiful view like Naboo, well, if you didn't count the floating mountains out in the distance. Everything looked so beautiful and perfect, too perfect if you asked Nico, something was wrong about this place and he didn't like it.
"Are you the one?"
Nico quickly turned his head to where the detached voice came from, What in the name...? But he saw nothing, Nico shook his head and turned back to the floating mountains, this planet was getting more stranger by the minute.
"Are you the one?"
Nico frowned, Okay, I definitely heard something. He thought as he turned his head to the right and his eyes widened at what he saw.
Standing before him was probably the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in his life, she was wearing a long flowing dress and had long teal coloured hair with green eyes and she was glowing, both physically and figuratively. Her skin was literally glowing a bright light. Nico frowned as he realised that was an aura. An aura of power. Alright, random woman who's power is greater than Yoda's...don't piss her off.
"Umm, who are you?" Nico questioned as he rested his hand on his lightsaber cautiously.
"I am the Daughter," She said, making Nico raise an eyebrow, Pretty name. "Are you the one?"
Nico raised both eyebrows at her, "Um, the one what?"
"I will take you to him." She said as if that explained everything.
"Who?" Nico asked with narrowed eyes, This woman is more cryptic than the damn Jedi. When she didn't reply Nico went for a different question, "Did you bring me here?"
She stared Nico in the eyes, making him shuffle his feet uncomfortably and a small blush appear on his face, he has never felt more awkward in his life "Only he can help you, there is little time, follow me, we must have shelter before nightfall." The Daughter said as she turned and began to walk off.
Nico frowned as he watched her walk away and weighed down his options, Hmm, stay here and try to figure out what is wrong with the ship or follow the glowing lady and find out what she wants. Nico thought as he glanced at the ship, Well, I won't be going anywhere anytime soon, I might as well follow her then. He thought as he ran toward her, trying to catch up with the powerful being.
Line break
It had been fifteen minutes since Nico decided to follow the 'Daughter' and now he was beginning to regret it, what was he thinking? Just leaving the ship there for someone to take. But as much as he would love to turn back and try and figure out what was wrong with the ship, he felt like something was making him follow the 'Daughter', something that he wanted, needed even.
Right now they were walking on a cliff edge and looking around, Nico noticed that the once green leaves were slowly but surely dying as the day started to turn darker, in fact, Nico had only just noticed that there was no sun. During the entire walk the Ghost King had not stumbled upon any other living organism, he couldn't see any animals, he couldn't even sense any small insects and if he didn't know any better the season seems to change by the passing of the day.
That and now that Nico let his Force barriers down he could feel that this place was very strong in the Force. Like a conduit of Force energy just waiting to be released. And it was all connecting toward him, Nico could feel the Force with every step he took and it honestly felt like heaven. He had never felt the Force be this strong and pure before.
Nico turned his head toward the 'Daughter', who, for the entire walk, has kept stoically silent, "Where are you taking me?" The Prince of Death questioned.
"The Father of course." She said simply.
Nico rolled his eyes, "Of course." He mutered as he looked at her through narrowed eyes, "And what exactly are you? A Goddess?"
"We are the ones that guard the power. We are the middle, the beginning and the end." She said in her same detached voice, but Nico couldn't help but feel something that's familiar with that statement, The middle, the beginning and the end? Now where have I heard that before?...Hold on a sec, did she just say that there are more than her and this 'Father'?
The two turned a corner and Nico couldn't help but notice that the green leaves on the cliff began to turn brown, as if they were dying, and Nico knew that it wasn't him, the grass that he's been standing on has been kept alive, in fact, as soon as he steps off of them they just spring right back up as if nothing happened.
Nico frowned as he heard something come down the mountain, and he looked up, only to see a massive boulder rolling down the hill, straight toward the 'Daughter', who just kept walking without a care in the world.
"Look out!" Nico shouted as he tackled her to the ground and out of the way of the boulder that was about to squish her.
Nico quickly got up and offered his hand toward the 'Daughter', but she shrugged her arm away from his hand and quickly stood up and glared at the Ghost King, "It is forbidden for you to touch me." She said with slight anger in her voice.
Nico rolled his eyes, "Of course it is." He muttered as he looked at the boulder curiously, wondering why it defied the laws of physics and didn't keep rolling down the cliff, "Something tells me this was no accident."
The 'Daughter' looked up at where the boulder rolled down from and her eyes widened before she looked back at Nico, "That was my Brother's work, you are in great danger, wait for me, do not leave this place." She said as she turned around and started to walk away.
Nico blinked, "Hey!" He said indignantly as he tried to walk toward her, but for some reason, he couldn't move his legs, "Wait a minute!" But she didn't, she just kept walking until she was out of sight and that was when Nico was able to move his bloody legs again and he ran after the 'Daughter'.
But once he turned the corner that the 'Daughter' had turned Nico saw nothing and he glanced at the sky warily as he saw dark clouds heading toward him with the sound of thunder accompanying them.
"Gods," He muttered as he started to run to where he guessed was the way the 'Daughter' was heading, "I am getting more and more crazy."
Nico continued to run away from the storm, but these damn clouds were apparently more faster than his Force abilities and in no time Nico was dodging stray lightning bolts until he saw a cave that didn't seem to be affected buy the storm. Once Nico was inside he sighed in relief.
"Well, that was close." He muttered to himself as he stretched his muscles and he glanced outside the cave and his eyes widened at what he saw, the scenery had changed completely. Now there were no flying rocks or beautiful green grass. There were no cliffs at all, everything seemed to change. All Nico could see was a single bright light that was above a mountain and the area where all the green grass was all dead, nothing but rubble. Nico's eyes narrowed as he looked at the bright light, Looks like some kind of building is on top of the mountain. I bet ten credits that's where my glowing lady friend went to. He thought as he took a deep breath and exited the cave that he was just in, dodging lightning bolts that kept coming toward him as he made his way toward the glowing light.
Line break
Once Nico reached the top of the mountain, he could see that the light was a giant crystal floating on the tip of a large building, a citadel. Nico looked at the giant structure with amazement written all over his face, but he soon shook the shock off of him and walked up the steps of the citadel and entered the building.
Once Nico entered the citadel he felt like that the inside was larger than the outside. The Ghost King was on a large platform that was shaped like a 'T' with him at the bottom of that 'T'. At the far side, in front of Nico, he could see two statues, on the right side looked like some kind of gargoyle with glowing red eyes and on the left side looked like a griffin with glowing blue eyes. In between the two statues was a 'T' shaped structure with two dongs on either side.
As Nico walked forward he could see someone kneeling in front of the structure in a meditative position, an old man with blue clothing, he had a large grey beard with a weirdly pointy hat, he had his eyes closed.
As the Ghost King walked closer to the mysterious old man, he stumbled slightly and his eyes widened as he felt the aura of power emanating from the mysterious old man. He never felt anything like it. It was like feeling Yoda's and Sidious' power combined into one entity, much more powerful than the 'Daughter'.
Once Nico was three metres in front of the powerful being he kneeled down in a meditative position as well, he didn't want to anger this guy, Nico may be blunt a lot of the time but he knew when to be respectful, he wasn't cocky enough to believe that he was stronger than this...thing.
After a few minutes the mysterious man opened his eyes, revealing unnaturally bright blue eyes, "Welcome my friend," He greeted calmly, making Nico raise an eyebrow.
"Am I correct in assuming that you are the Father that the Daughter was talking about?" Nico questioned.
The old man nodded, "You are."
Nico narrowed his eyes, "Would you be kind enough to tell me why I am here?"
"To learn the truth." The Father said as he used the Force to help him stand himself up and he walked toward the Ghost King, causing Nico to rise cautiously from his meditative position as the Father approached, "The truth of who the enemy truly is. A truth you must believe in order for you to fulfil your destiny."
Nico's eyes narrowed further as, out of habit, he cautiously rested his hand on his lightsaber hilt, "What do you mean by the truth?" Nico said, ignoring the part about his 'destiny'.
Suddenly, thunder rumbled as the storm got worse, it even shook the citadel slightly, but the Father stood there calmly, completely unperturbed by the fact that his home isn't exactly the most stable place to be living.
"As you can see, there is nowhere else to go." The Father started, "It is late. You will be my guest tonight." The Father commanded firmly.
Nico raised an eyebrow, but before he could respond he suddenly felt incredibly tired, and he blinked at the Father drearily, It was a long run, Nico thought as he stared at the Father in a daze, And I have been dodging lightning for quite a while, I guess I could use some rest.
"Fine," Nico said in a tired tone as his eyes started to droop, "But no funny business old man, cause I wont hesitate to..." he interrupted himself with a yawn.
The Father nodded, "No need to worry young man, now, if you will follow me." He said as he started walking toward one of the rooms in the citadel, Nico following him. The Ghost King was hoping that after a nice night of sleep, he would be able to get some answers.
Line break
Nico hated his damn dreams, whether they're Jedi visions or Demigod dreams, he will always hate them.
The Ghost King mentally frowned as he took in his surroundings, the last thing he remembered was him falling to the ground and immediately falling to sleep after the Father showed him to his room.
He was standing in the centre of a cylindrical metal platform roughly two metres across. Dozens of wires and IV tubes had been hooked to his body. The wires were connected to several generators arranged in a circle around the platform, the IV tubes ran to clear vats filled with a strange green bubbling liquid.
"The ritual is about to begin," An emotionless voice intoned.
Looking up Nico saw a man in a black cloak with the hood up, all Nico could see of the man's skin were his disgustingly pale hands, a shadow was covering his face.
Nico was forced to nod toward the cloaked man, obviously he wasn't in control of his body in the dream.
Nico was inside a small room with no windows though he was pretty sure he could here the faint sound of thunder outside. The room was unfurnished and, apart from the cloaked man, Nico, and the infernal machinery he was hooked up to, completely empty.
Nico had no idea what was going on, but he was going to go out on a whim here and guess that the cloaked man in front of him wasn't exactly a good guy. It wasn't that hard to figure out that this was a Sith in front of him, he had a lightsaber strapped to his waist and he was wearing a black cloak and had this dark aura around him...yeah, a bad man.
"Open yourself to the dark side," the Sith said, and Nico felt the air around him begin to swirl with power as it suddenly started to rage around him making him wince slightly, the dark side of the Force was a very passionate tool to use and usually made you feel like you could take on the galaxy, but it can sometimes be a bit too much power to deal with.
"Let the spark of eternal life ignite within you!" The Sith called out, making Nico's eyes widen, 'ETERNAL WHAT!?'
Nico felt a sharp burst of heat in his chest. He gritted his teeth in pain as the heat grew more intense.
"Feel your mortality as it is stripped away from you."
Nico screamed as invisible claws tore at his insides seemingly shredding his vital organs.
The heat in his chest had spread to the rest of his body; it felt as if his blood were made of fire. The agony became unbearable, and he shrieked and collapsed to the floor.
"The ritual cannot be undone," the Sith said as Nico writhed and wept at his feet.
Through the ritual, Nico realized with dawning horror what the Sith was saying. The ritual was over, but the searing heat and rending of his insides continued unabated.
Focusing his will, he managed to still the convulsions racking his body. He forced himself to his knees, though every movement seemed to amplify the pain. Trembling, he rose to his feet and addressed the Sith.
"How long will this anguish last?" Nico was forced to ask, his jaw clenched. If Nico did have control of his body he would have a bit more to say other than how long this pain will last, he had quite a few choice words for the Sith in front of him.
"As time passes you will learn to accept and endure the pain your suffering," The Sith answered. "Your mind and body will find ways to deal and accept the pain. After many months you will become accustomed enough to it to function in your role as the Emperor's Wrath. Eventually you will simply become numb, unable to feel anything at all."
"Why?" Nico asked, his voice something between a sob and a moan.
"Everything has a cost," The Sith explained. "This is the price of immortality."
Line break
Nico was tossing and turning on the mat the Father had provided for him, he was most definitely not enjoying the little nightmare that was going on in his head, when, suddenly, a hand came from the shadows of the room and stroked Nico's hair out of his distressed face.
"Wake up, Nico," A young female voice said to Nico's sleeping form, and his eyes suddenly snapped open, "I must tell you a secret." The voice continued as the hand was removed from his face.
Nico quickly sat up and looked around the room with wide eyes, "Who's there?" He said as he glared at the shadows in front of him, lightning started illuminating the room from the window behind him, "Who's there I said!"
"It is me Nico," The voice said behind him, making him whip around and stare up at the female form with wide eyes, "Your sister." Bianca said as lightning illuminated the loving face of the daughter of Hades, and she walked forward to give Nico a hug, but the Ghost King quickly rolled away from her and stood in a Mandalorian fighting stance.
"What kind of trickery is this?" Nico questioned as he stared at his 'sister' with narrowed eyes, "You're...dead."
'Bianca' smiled at the Ghost King with a loving expression as she walked toward him, but Nico slowly walked around the room to avoid her, "Nothing really dies Nico," she said with a serene voice, "I have a secret to tell you."
Nico frowned and narrowed his eyes further, not letting his guard down as the thunder storm continued to rage on, "Then tell me."
Bianca nodded, "Everything you have done. Everything you have learned has lead you here." She said with an unusual smirk, one that did not belong on the daughter of Hades' face.
Nico glared at her, "Whatever you are," Nico said with anger in his voice, "My sister is," Nico's teeth clenched, "is dead."
"And you blame yourself," 'Bianca' said with an understanding nod, "Both your Demigod and Jedi training has served you well, Nico. But you are more than a Jedi, Sith and Demigod." She said as she, once again, started walking toward Nico as his defensive stance started to falter. "Tell me," She said as she laid a hand on the Ghost Kings arm, "Where is your pain, so I might take it away."
"I-" Nico faltered, Is this really my sister? Should I really trust her? In the end, the loving look that 'Bianca' gave him won out and he told her, "I failed as a Demigod, then I failed as a Sith and now I'm failing as a Jedi." He struggled to let out as it suddenly felt hard to breathe.
"How so?" She asked as she reached up and caressed Nico's cheek softly.
The hyperventilating stopped and Nico smiled at the touch, it even had the same warmth as Bianca, but his face turned solemn once again, "I can't move away from the darkness inside of me. I only felt anger, hatred and vengeance when I attacked those mercenary's that were on Onderon." Nico responded as he reached up to grab her hand and lower it back down.
"You must realize that your guilt does not define you, Nico." 'Bianca' said with a look of concern. "You define your guilt."
Nico sighed as 'Bianca' walked up to him and gave him a small hug, cuddling up to him, and Nico sighed as he felt his sisters familiar warmth spread across him, and he carried on, "The only love I feel in my heart, is haunted by what would happen should I let go or if she let's go." Nico said as he thought of a certain Togruta Padawan.
"Then it is not love." 'Bianca' said bluntly, making Nico blink, "It is a prison."
"B-but I have a girlfriend," Nico said in a confused tone, "She's the last bit of light that's in my heart. She's everything to me."
"She is not your destiny." 'Bianca' said, but something was wrong with her voice, as if it was made up of two.
Nico frowned as he stared at 'Bianca', "But I l...I love her." He said, stuttering at first but saying the last part firmly, his resolve for his love no longer crumbling.
'Bianca's' eyes narrowed and she pushed out of the hug that she was giving Nico and backed away toward the window, "No!" She said in two voices, one was Bianca's while the other was an unknown male's voice, "She is the poisoner!"
Nico's eyes widened as he got back into a fighting stance as he backed away, "What are you!?" He shouted as he reached for his lightsaber.
'Bianca' glared at Nico as the lightning went off twice and she changed forms twice, the first lightning strike she changed into a blood-red eyed gargoyle and on the second lightning strike the gargoyle transformed into the form of Lord Reaper, before changing back to the form of 'Bianca', "Your fate!" she said as shadows flew toward her and, before Nico could stop it, she disappeared.
Nico frowned and he stood there uneasily, not sure on what to make of this, it was all so confusing, and he suddenly narrowed his eyes and reached for his lightsaber as he exited the room, he needed to have a little chat with this Father guy.
Line break
The Father was in his meditative position just like before, he looked like nothing had disturbed him. The lightning wasn't disturbing his train of thought, not even the black as night blade that suddenly came an inch from his nose didn't disturb him.
"Cannot sleep?" The Father questioned, his eyes still closed. "To strike an unarmed man is hardly the Jedi way."
Nico scowled, "Your a Sith Lord." He growled.
The Father didn't raise his head, "You have a very simple view of the universe." He said calmly, almost in amusement, "I am neither Sith, nor Jedi." He said as he opened his eyes to stare up at the angry demigod, "I am much more. And so are you."
Nico's scowl deepened, "I see through your spells and visions old man." He said as he suddenly walked closer toward the Father and had his lightsaber cut a tiny strand of his beard off. "Now tell me what is going on here." The Ghost King demanded threateningly.
The Father looked at the lightsaber and calmly raised his hand and rested it on the blade, his hand not even being burned, making Nico's eyes widen, "Some call us Force-wielders." he said as he stood up, the blade still in his hand and he literally pushed Nico's lightsaber blade back into the hilt, much to the Ghost Kings mounting horror as he realized that this was to much for him to handle alone, he quickly kneeled down on one knee, Nico wasn't a suck up, but it was probably best not to piss this guy off.
Nico gulped as he looked up at the Father, trying to cover up the fear that was beginning to gnaw at his chest, "The Jedi and the Sith have never spoken of this."
"Hmm," The Father murmured as he motioned for the Ghost King to stand back up, and so he did, albeit warily "Few still know of our existence."
Nico frowned and shook his head, trying to get rid of the fear that was in his mind, and pointed to his right, toward the room that he was sleeping in, "In that room, my sister came to me." He said with a little anger in his voice, "But it was not her, it was something else."
"Ah," The Father said as he reached up to stroke his beard, "My son I suspect. We can take many forms, the shapes we embody are merely a reflection of the life force around us. You carry a great sadness in your heart." He said as he walked down the small steps that led toward his meditative area, Nico following him, "My children and I can manipulate the Force like no other. Therefore it was necessary to withdraw from the temporal world, and live here as anchorites."
Nico frowned as the Father turned to look at him and the Ghost King looked at the powerful being in the eye, "As a sanctuary?"
The Father nodded and sighed at the same time, "And a prison." He said in a sad tone of voice, "You cannot imagine what pain it is to have such love for your children and realize they could tear the very fabric of our universe."
Nico frowned in confusion, "I-I don't understand."
The Father spread his arms out, "It is only here that I can control them." He said, gesturing all around him, Nico guessed that the Father was talking about the citadel, explains why he sent the Daughter after him instead of going after Nico himself. "A family in balance. Light and the dark. Day with night." The Father said as he glanced back at Nico, "Destruction replaced by creation."
Nico narrowed his eyes, "Then why reveal yourselves to me?"
The Father sighed, "There are some that wish to exploit our power," The Father said as he turned to look Nico in the eye, "Too much dark or light could mean the undoing of life as you understand it. Once news reached me that another demigod had been found, I needed to see him for myself, but I never expected to see another son of Hades."
Nico narrowed his eyes, "I'm the only demigod that was ever exiled to this galaxy." He said as he remembered the recording on his old exile ship on the junk planet, he remembered Athena saying that he was the first demigod they sent into exile.
The Father smiled at the son of Hades, "Do you truly believe that?"
Nico frowned, No, not really, "Alright then, if other demigods were exiled to this galaxy, who were they and how many of them were there?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.
The Father smiled, "Before you came here only two demigods were exiled to this galaxy since," The Father started calmly, "One was a female called Bastila Shan the very first daughter of Athena," He said, making Nico's eyes widen, but before he could open his mouth the Father continued, "and the second one is your half-brother, Lord Revan the very first child of Hades."
Revan is my what now? Nico thought incredulously, "That's impossible," The Ghost King said with a shake of his head, "And even if it was possible, why would the Gods exile them?"
The Father frowned, "I am not going to try and make you believe that the two Jedi were demigods," He said while staring at the Ghost King, "But as for the reason why they were exiled, the simple truth is, because Zeus was enraged and threatened."
Nico frowned, "What do you mean?"
The Father sighed, "Zeus was enraged when Athena had her very first demigod child, he thought that she broke her vow of maidenhood, it wasn't until after Bastila Shan was put in the ship and blasted off into space that Zeus realized that she was a child of thought, just like how he conceived Athena."
Nico's eyes narrowed, "And what about Revan?"
This time, the Father smiled in amusement, "Zeus was simply afraid," At the confused look he got from Nico, he decided to elaborate, "The first demigod that any God has is always the strongest demigod that they'll ever have, sometimes the Gods have strong demigods after that like how Poseidon had Perseus Jackson or how Zeus had Jason Grace" The Father looked him in the eye, "Or how Hades had you. Zeus saw Revan's power and he was afraid that he would try and take over Olympus."
"He sounds a bit paranoid." Nico said dryly, making the Father chuckle slightly.
"Yes, well, I heard that Zeus is the paranoid type," He said in amusement, "Zeus decided to send Revan into exile at such a young age, Hades had no idea what was happening until it was to late. Zeus didn't even convene the council when it came to Revan, he immediately sent the child of Hades into exile. Luckily, the two demigods were both found by the Jedi, unlike you."
Nico grunted, Yeah, being found by Sith isn't exactly what a child wants. Nico suddenly shook his head, "We're getting off track here," The Ghost King said in mild annoyance, "What I want to know is why have you sought me out? It can't be just because you want to meet another demigod."
"Indeed," The Father said with a small smile, "I am here to give you a warning and to teach you about your powers."
Nico's eyes narrowed at that, "A warning? About what? And what do you mean by teaching me?"
"So many questions," The Father said with a sigh, "I must be giving you a warning about the Sith."
Nico frowned, "And what might that be?"
"Tell me, how many Sith do you know are in this galaxy?"
Nico scowled, he didn't really see the point in this, but he decided to play along, "There's two, Dooku and Sidious." He answered.
The Father frowned, "Anyone else?"
The Ghost King raised an eyebrow, "Well, I guess you could call Ventress a Sith, but she's more like an assassin."
"Anyone else?"
"There was this Pureblood that I killed a few weeks ago, but he's...retired." The Ghost King said through gritted teeth, getting very fed up with the game that this man was playing.
"Anyone else?"
"Me?"
"No, but good guess," The Father said, watching in mild amusement as the Prince of Death let out a sigh of relief.
Nico shook his head, "That's it. That's all the Sith that I know of. Why?"
The Father frowned, "Because, my warning is this, there are a lot more Sith then you or the Jedi know of." He said, making Nico's eyes widen.
"What?" He questioned, not sure if he heard correctly.
"The Sith have grown powerful over the years," The Father continued, ignoring Nico's questioning look, "So powerful that they have even found a way to make themselves immortal."
"Impossible!" Nico exclaimed, he usually kept a cool head in situations like this, but this was too much, though Nico did remember that horrid dream he had, but that's all it was, a dream...A demigod dream. "The Sith do not have the power to become immortal, I know that there is some myth where the Sith have some kind of ritual to make yourself immortal, but that's all it is, a myth."
"Just like how the Gods of Olympus are a myth?" The Father questioned calmly, completely unperturbed by the Ghost Kings attitude "Just like how the Sith are meant to be a myth? Just like how I'm meant to be a myth?"
Nico frowned and sighed, "Point taken. But what you are suggesting is absurd. The Sith can't be immortal, if they were then the Jedi would have most definitely found them, I mean, Sidious may look like he's a thousand years old and Dooku my look two hundred but they aren't immortal."
"No, you are correct," The Father said, making Nico sigh in relief, "Only one Sith is immortal."
Nico's eyes widened and he looked at the Father with an incredulous expression, You have got to be kidding me. "Alright," Nico said warily, "Say that I do believe you, do you have any proof? And who is it? Sidious?"
The Father sighed, "I think it is better that I show you what proof I have." He said as he reached his hand up and used his index finger to touch Nico's forehead, before the Ghost King could react, he blacked out.
Line break
Nico opened his eyes drearily, and he glanced to his right to see the Father in a seat, "Was that really necessary? I mean why couldn't you ju-where are we?" He interrupted himself as he saw that the Father was using ship controls, looking forward, he could see through the viewport the wormhole of hyperspace, and with a start, Nico realised that he was in his ship, and for some damn reason he was sitting in the co-pilots seat while the Father was in the pilots seat.
The Father glanced at him before going back to the ship controls, "Good, your awake." He said, not answering the Ghost Kings question, "Nothing I tell you can prepare you for what you will see on Nathema," the Father warned. "But I will tell you the history of the immortal Sith and his homeworld."
Nico frowned, "What? Nathema? Gods, how do I even know if you are telling the truth?"
The Father just continued staring out at the hyperspace ring, "Believe it or not as you see fit. I am just warning you of what is to come, what you do with this information is for you to decide. If nothing else, the story will pass the time."
The Father settled himself more comfortably, and as he spoke, his voice took on the singsong tone of a children's storyteller. "The Sith's name was Tenebrae," he began. "They say he was born with eyes as black as the void of empty space, and that he never cried, even as an infant. No animal would come near him, and when he began to talk, his voice carried a weight and power that should not come from a child."
"At the age of six he began to manifest signs of the Force, marking him as one of the ruling elite. But his parents were simple farmers, and the Force was not strong in them. Suspicious about the boy's power, his father confronted his mother, who admitted to having an affair with the Sith Lord who ruled over them."
"The Father flew into a rage, attacking the boy's mother. Tenebrae stopped him, feeding on his father's anger and hate to call upon the dark side. He snapped his father's neck with a mere thought, killing him instantly. His mother died more slowly. Tenebrae made her suffer for months as punishment for betraying the family, torturing her with the Force as he honed his powers."
"Now orphaned by his own hand, he made the others in his village bow down to him. Those who refused, he tortured and killed through the Force."
"Over the next few years his reputation and influence spread to nearby villages, and he amassed legions of both fanatical and terrified followers. He killed thousands during his rise to power. Many died just to feed his insatiable appetite for suffering, tortured for days in public execution so he could savour their agonizing ends."
"This sounds like a legend than a history," Nico remarked.
"I cannot guarantee the truth of this story," The Father admitted. "Those who witnessed the events no longer live to verify them. But if you had ever met Tenebrae in person, you would not be so hesitant to accept the tale."
"What about Nathema's ruler? The boy's father? You claimed he was a Sith Lord. Surely he didn't sit back doing nothing while a child conquered his people village by village?"
"Tenebrae's father was named Lord Dramath. He heard rumours, but they came from a remote and insignificant territory. He had long forgotten the simple commoner who had borne him a son, and he considered the plight of a few small villages beneath his notice. Had Dramath acted more swiftly, the child might have been stopped. But it took almost four years before he decided to go see Tenebrae for himself."
"Lord Dramath intended to judge the child's power to determine if he was worthy of serving the Sith Lord, or if he should simply be executed. But Tenebrae had no intention of serving-or of dying. When they met face-to-face, Tenebrae proved the stronger. Only ten years old, he stripped his father of his power and his mind. Lord Dramath spent his last moments weeping in terror, gazing up into the black eyes of his son."
"It took Tenebrae three more years to gain control of the rest of Nathema. Dramath's firstborn son fled rather than face his formidable half-brother, but other powerful Sith sought to seize the empty throne. All fell before the dark prodigy, and with each victory he grew more powerful and more ruthless."
"At thirteen he presented himself to Marka Ragnos, the Lord of all Sith and the ruler of the Sith Council. Impressed by the teenager's ambition and power, Marka Ragnos granted him the title of Lord Vitiate. His position as ruler of Nathema officially recognized, Lord Vitiate returned to his home to conduct his research into the depths of the dark side's power."
"He stayed there for a hundred years. When Marka Ragnos fell, Lord Vitiate did not join in the mad rush to claim his position. He was not part of the Great Hyperspace War against the Republic. When Naga Sadow and Ludo Kressh fought for leadership of the Sith, he took no side. But in the aftermath of the war-after the Sith's defeat at the hands of the Republic and there flight to escape the massacre of there people by the Jedi-he emerged from his solitude to call a great council of all the Sith Lords who remained. He invited them to his palace on Nathema, built on the site of his childhood home, the place where he had killed his adopted father and tortured his mother to death. He invited them to participate in a ritual to unlock the full potential of the dark side; he promised they would unleash power beyond anything they had ever witnessed or imagined."
"Didn't they suspect a trap?"
"Perhaps," The Father shrugged. "Some refused to answer his call. But many more came. After all, what could one man do against a hundred Sith Lords? Remember, he was not immortal yet. He was merely Lord Vitiate, ruler of a single planet of no particular importance. He hadn't fought in any battles of note or achieved any great victories or conquests beyond his homeworld. He had the reputation of a scholar, not a warrior."
"And the Sith Lords were driven by fear. Many thought the Jedi would soon wipe them all out. They were desperate for anything they could use as a weapon against the servants of the light side. Lord Vitiate played upon those fears, convincing those who answered his call to set aside their suspicions of him and of one another to join in a single glorious cause."
"Once they arrived on Nathema, they quickly fell under Lord Vitiate's control. He dominated their minds, crushed their resistance. He turned them into slaves to his will, forcing them to participate in the most complex ritual of Sith sorcery ever attempted. He fed on their power, absorbing it into himself, utterly obliterating all traces of his victims."
"But the ritual was not confined to the doomed Sith Lords. They were but the eye of the storm; the centre of a vortex that spread across the entire planet. Every men, woman, and child on Nathema died that day. Every beast, bird, and fish; all insects and plant, every living being touched by the Force was consumed. When the ritual ended, Nathema was no longer a world. It was a husk sucked dry. Lord Vitiate sacrificed millions, stealing their life force to make himself immortal. Their deaths also made him stronger than any Sith who had come before, and he ceased to be known as Lord Vitiate. On that day, the Emperor was truly born."
Nico wondered if the Father expected him to be horrified by the tale. If so, he was about to be disappointed.
"The Emperor seized what was his by right," he said in a bored tone. "The strong take from the weak blah blah blah. Yeah, I've heard the myth." Nico said, remembering his first research into the Sith when he was being trained by Sidious and Dooku. "And that's all it is. A myth."
The Father smiled calmly, "Just like how the Greek Gods of Olympus are a myth?" He questioned, and Nico's silence spoke for itself, "I used to think it was a myth to, even when I heard about it," the Father said, now he was smiling ghoulishly. "And then I saw Nathema for myself."
He didn't say anything else for the remainder of the trip, leaving Nico to wonder in silence why the Father was so confident that he would come around to his side.
He felt the first hints of what was waiting for him when the shuttle dropped out of hyperspace. Through the windows of the cockpit he saw a grey-and-brown planet looming large beneath them. Gazing at it, he felt something strange and unsettling. Something unnatural.
It took him several moments to realize what was wrong and even when he did, he didn't fully grasp the implications. He wasn't feeling the Force.
The sensation was completely alien. The Force was omnipresent. It radiated in certain places and at certain times. And balance of the dark side and the light constantly shifted. But it was always there in some way, shape, or form.
Now, however, he felt nothing. He had become so accustomed to the presence of the Force in the background that its complete absence was almost overwhelming, leaving him unable to speak.
"Prepare yourself," the Father said. "We're going down to the surface."
The absence grew steadily more pronounced as the shuttle approached and then landed on Nathema.
"Come with me," the Father commanded, rising up from his seat.
Still mute, Nico followed him down the shuttle's boarding ramps and out onto the world itself.
They had touched down at a spaceport in a city. Or what used to be a city. The spaceport was surrounded by buildings, speeder pads, and streets one would expect to see in a planet's major metropolitan centre. But it was eerily quiet; the incessant murmur of the crowds and the constant hum of traffic whizzing past on busy streets were missing.
There wasn't even any wind, and the air tasted stale in Nico's mouth. The temperature was neither cold nor hot, but he felt himself starting to shiver.
"You feel the chill of the void," the Father told him. "The Force is energy; it gives heat to our emotions and our minds. But here it has been stripped away."
He led him along the deserted streets as Nico stared in fascinated horror, trying to grasp the magnitude of what he was witnessing. The buildings seemed to be almost fully intact; there was none of the damage and destruction normally associated with millions of simultaneous deaths. In fact, the entire city looked like that it had only recently been evacuated. There were no ruins or decay or anything like that. However, there were other signs of what happened here.
Mangled speeders and shuttles were strewn about, the remains of vehicles in motion that had crashed to a halt when their pilots were taken by the ritual. And everywhere Nico looked there were small piles of clothes: jackets, slacks, and boots that had survived what their owners had not. Normally these remains would have been decomposed after the many years that they have laid dormant, but for some odd reason, they weren't.
"Where are the droids?" Nico asked.
He was shocked at the sound of his own voice. It was flat and dull, as if even sound waves had been distorted by the ritual.
"The ritual overloaded their circuits," the Father explained, his voice as hollow and washed out as his. "The damage was irreparable; even their memory cores were completely wiped out."
Nico glanced upward and noticed something else unusual. The sun shining down on them from above-a star that had appeared bright orange as they'd approached the planet-was now a pale shade of brown. In fact, everything around them was either brown or grey, as if the colours had been leached out.
Nico was well acquainted with death. He was the son of the Underworld after all. He had no trouble understanding massacres and mass slaughter. Death and destruction unleashed powerful emotions like fear, suffering, and hatred; they fueled the power of the dark side. But what had happened on Nathema was different, and it disturbed him in a deep and profound way.
This immortal Sith, this Emperor, had consumed everything. Life, sound, colour, even the Force-nothing remained. This wasn't about conquest or domination or destroying an enemy-all concepts Nico both loathed and embraced.
Everything on Nathema had simply been snuffed out, extinguished so completely that it ceased to have any meaning or purpose. It was a vacuum of existence; a blight on the natural order.
Complete and utter obliteration.
"I've seen enough," he declared.
The Father nodded and they turned and made their way back to the ship.
Nico finally understood why the Father wanted him to understand the importance of warning him about this Emperor. Destroying your enemies-even destroying a planet-was understandable for a Sith. But this wasn't simple destruction. It was annihilation; obliteration. The very fabric of the Force had been shredded. Anyone capable of turning an entire planet into a nihilistic abomination had to be completely mad. After seeing the horrors of Nathema, he truly believed the Emperor did exist. He doubted very much that the Father was tricking him by making all of this up. He had the power to do that, but it was very doubtful. What would the point be? The Father was balance, and if he thought something was unbalanced it isn't exactly that much of a surprise if he wants to make it balanced once again. But Nico didn't know what he of all people could do against power like the Emperors.
By the time they reached the shuttle, Nico's stomach was churning. He had lived for as long as he remembered attuned to the Force; having it stripped away had left him physically ill. The shuttle shook as they took to the air, and he fought against the urge to vomit.
As they broke the atmosphere of the cursed world, some semblance of normalcy returned. Nico felt the Force rushing in to fill the emptiness inside him; he felt its power invigorating him and restoring his strength.
Nico sighed as he looked through the viewport as the Father put in the coordinates back to where his weird home planet was once again. Nico wasn't going to try and stop him, the Father said that he had something to teach him and if the Father could tell him a way on taking the Emperor on without being snuffed out of existence immediately then he will stay on that mysterious planet for as long as it took.
The Ghost King glanced at the Father and frowned, "Alright, I can understand your concern for this Emperor." Nico started, "What else do you want to tell me?" He questioned as the ship jumped into hyperspace.
The Father turned to Nico, "I will tell you once we reach Mortis." he said, and Nico only just realized that was the first time that he heard the name of the planet that this guy lives on, sudenly, the Father raised his hand and touched the Ghost Kings forehead with his index finger and once again everything went dark.
Line break
Nico's eyes snapped open and he quickly jumped to his feet, he was no longer in the cockpit of the Republic shuttle. It looked like he was in some kind of courtyard, he could also tell that he was back on Mortis, not just because he could feel the Force again, but also because he felt the Force all around the planet, the power. Looking down on the floor, it looked like some kind of ying and yang thing, one side of the courtyard was black while the other side of the courtyard was white.
Looking around the large area he was in, Nico saw the Father in a meditative position with his back facing Nico, the Prince of Death walked up to him.
"Did you have to do that?" Nico winced, cracking his neck to the side, trying to work out the kinks. "Its not a pleasant experience, I assure you. Where are we anyway?"
The Father stood up from his meditative state and turned to look at Nico, "This is the place where my son and daughter choose to test each others skills, but right now, this is the place where I am going to teach you on how to control the darkness and the light within you."
Nico raised an eyebrow, Okay then.
The Father continued, "You are a child of Hades. And your powers thrive within darkness. The same goes for your Force powers, you must absorb the power of the dark side to remain powerful. Am I correct?"
Nico frowned but nodded his head. He had noticed that ever since he joined the Jedi.
"For you to control the dark side, you must first control your light." The Father started, "The Jedi are servants of the light, while the Sith are slaves of the dark. You are neither of those. You are not a servant nor are you a slave, you are a Master. The Jedi and the Sith both claim the Force is divided into two sides, the light and the dark. Each fraction praises its own side and scorns the other. This split has caused every major war since the primordial times. And no one has realized the truth of all things."
Nico raised an eyebrow, now curious, as he crossed his arms.
"There is no light. There is no dark. There is simply...grey."
Neither light nor darkness only grey can be decided.
Raising both eyebrows, Nico replied, "Please, elaborate on what you mean."
"The Force is an energy field that binds all living things together." The Father started, walking closer toward Nico, "Nothing more, nothing less. It touches everyone, from the most morally pure person to the most blatantly corrupt individual. Everything in life is balanced. Revenge by Justice. Betrayal by Loyalty. Malice by Kindness. Hatred by Love. War by Peace. Victory by Defeat. Light by Dark. Death by Life. It is the natural way of all things. Everything in life must be balanced by the Force in order for it to exist."
"Nothing is unbalanced, and because the Force flows through us more strongly than most, we must not allow ourselves to become exceptions to that rule. A person must grasp the darkness as well as the light inside themselves in order to gain balance, enlightenment, and to reach their full potential. Anyone who denies this truth is an ignorant fool who is defying the laws of nature, for no being is truly light or dark." The Father replied as he was only a couple of feet in front of Nico and looking the Ghost King in the eye.
Nico's eyes narrowed, he could see the wisdom in the Father's words. For you to achieve true power, you must first achieve balance. If you are aligned with the dark side of the Force, that doesn't necessarily make you a bad person. If you are aligned with the light side of the Force, that doesn't necessarily make you a good person. In order for you to achieve true power in the Force, you must first balance it out.
There is no light and there is no dark, there is only an endless shade of grey.
As the Father and Nico stood in the middle of the courtyard, two bright flashes appeared on either side of the arena like structure, when those flashes died down, they revealed two very different people.
On the right side of the courtyard, the white part of the courtyard, was a young boy, probably ten or eleven, with a look of utter determination on his face, he was wearing an Aviators jacket and black jeans while holding a Stygian iron sword in his right hand and holding a mythomagic figurine in his left hand. With a start, Nico realized that this was, well, him.
On the left side of the courtyard, the black part of the courtyard, it was someone much more familiar, it was Reaper, but he looked pretty banged up. He looked just like the last time Nico saw him in his dream. His outfit was all screwed up, his helmet was taken off and he had sharp teeth in his mouth and black as night eyes that were staring at Nico with hate, he was holding his old Sith lightsaber, but it wasn't activated.
Nico looked back to where the Father was, but he had disappeared.
"Are you ready for your test?" A voice said behind Nico, and once the Ghost King turned around, he found the Father standing on top of a pillar that was overlooking the courtyard.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa," Nico said while holding his hands up, "You never said anything about a test. Aren't you meant to teach me something first?"
"You must complete the test," The Father continued, not listening to Nico, "You must defeat both your light and dark sides. Your dark side wants to take control of your body while the light side refuses to work with the dark, it refuses balance. You must show them that you are the one who is in charge. Not them." The Force-wielder stated calmly.
Nico frowned yet sighed, he will do what he must.
Reaper suddenly activated his lightsaber, "I told you you couldn't keep me away, I will destroy everything that you have worked so hard for, and then, me and Ahsoka will have some fun, but I doubt she would be compelling to do what I want, but I do like it when they struggle." He said as he smirked maliciously at the thought of having some 'fun' with Ahsoka.
Black fire suddenly enveloped the Stygian iron sword of the light Nico, "I will not allow the darkness to taint the one pure thing that I have left in my heart," He said as he looked at Nico with a desperate expression, "Please, your love for Ahsoka is the last thing within you that isn't tainted by the darkness, don't merge it with this...thing."
"There must be balance, Nico!" The Father called from where he was standing, "If you wish to defeat the Emperor, you must have balance in your heart."
Nico hesitated at the thought of Ahsoka. Did he really want to taint the last thing that he loves with darkness, the one and only pure thing within him that hasn't been tainted by the Force or Tartarus. He loved Ahsoka. He knew that much. He didn't know if Ahsoka loved him back, she had feelings for him, that much Nico could tell, but did she love him? That doesn't matter right now. If he tainted his love with darkness he may be killing off the last bit of light that he has left in his heart, he might even kill the love that he feels for the Jedi Padawan.
Its either this or let this Sith Emperor do to the galaxy what he did to Nathema.
Nico suddenly looked up and glared at the Father with hatred evident in his eyes, "Why me!?" He suddenly roared, all of the pent up frustration coming out as one, "Why do I have to do it!? Why am I the one who is always making the hard decisions!? Why am I the one who always has to suffer!? Why can't it be someone else for a change!?"
His Uncle killed his Mother, trying to get to him and his sister. His sister abandoned him to join the Hunters and then she died on a quest. He was tricked by a ghost and was nearly sold to the Titans. He lost his trust in everyone around him. The Demigods at Camp Half-Blood found him disgusting. His Father never showed an ounce of kindness. His best friend, Percy Jackson, forgot all about him after the Titan War. Bianca chose rebirth without even telling him. He got a new sister, Hazel, who is bitter with Nico because she knows that Nico would have chosen Biance over her. Nico wasn't accepted in the Roman Camp but they put up with him out of fear. He had to go along with Hera's plan and keep secrets from Percy. He was thrown into Tartarus for a week, being tortured by monsters, Giants and Titans. He was forced into a death trance just so he could stay alive. He helped the Seven close the Doors of Death. Everyone felt sorry for Percy and Annabeth after there ordeal in Tartarus, even though they had a Titan and a Giant helping them out, while not one person felt an ounce of pity for Nico, 'He's the son of Hades, its easy for him'. Apollo came to Camp Half-blood to challenge Nico after he had killed several of his children that were on the Giants side. And then, when the war was over, to thank him for all of the shit he has put up with since he found out that he was a demigod, the Gods exile him into another galaxy. Where he eventually becomes a Sith. And then a Jedi, but that doesn't work because the Jedi don't even trust him. And now he is being told that he must defeat an immortal Sith who has had much more experience in the ways of the Force.
It's not fair!
He knew he sounded like a whiny child, but he was getting very fed up with this. The Gods used him. The Demigods used him. The Sith used him. The Jedi used him. Even Percy used him for the Titan War and then just forgot about him, he may have had a cabin in Camp Half-Blood but it still would have been nice to have at least one friend. And now this old man is using him. He wanted it all to be done and over with. Why can't he just have a normal life? He had thought that he could settle down one day, actually have a family. But Nico could see now, that day was never going to come, because when this is all over he will be asked to do another impossible task, and then another, and then another.
"You are the only one who can." The Father replied calmly as he stared down at the Ghost Kings enraged face. "You are the only one who has been both a Jedi and a Sith. So it must be you."
Reaper rolled his eyes, "This is getting tedious," He said as he raised his lightsaber, "When I'm done with you, I'm getting out of here, and once I'm out of here, I'm going to find your little girlfriend, and I'm going to show her how much of a man you and I can truly b-" He was interrupted from his somewhat descriptive rant by Nico, who used the Force to lift him up and throw him over to the light side version of Nico, smashing him against the courtyard wall.
Reaper landed into the wall with a crack and he fell to the ground with a thud, and he groaned slightly as he looked up to Nico, who was staring over at Reaper with nothing but hate on his face, making him flinch.
"You will listen to me." Nico said with nothing but raw power coming from his voice, "You will not touch her. You will not talk of her. You will both merge with one and other and you will be balanced out or I will stay in this courtyard for all eternity knocking you both around. Either you do this willingly or I am going to force you."
"Umm," The light Nico started.
"Shut up!" The original Nico shouted, he then pointed at Reaper, "You. You can taint whatever you want, you can taint my heart if you want, you can taint my love for anything else, but if you dare touch my love for Ahsoka, if you try any games with her. I will smash your brains all over the walls."
Nico was well aware that these weren't actual people, they were just his manifestations of the light and dark side, but that didn't change the fact that Nico could hurt them if the slightly groaning Reaper had anything to say about it. And the Father wanted balance. But the Father was asking for too much when it came to balancing the love he felt for Ahsoka with darkness, he was not going to balance his love with hate. There was no way.
Reaper scoffed as he picked himself up from the floor and used the Force to call his lightsaber over to him, "I'm your dark side idiot," He said in a spiteful tone, "I'm not only your hate but I am also your lust." He said with a smirk, "Oh, the things that you want to do with Ahsoka, they are absolutely decadent. But they aren't good enough for me, I like to do things more rough." He finished, his usual malicious smirk forming on his face, showing his disgustingly pointed teeth.
The light side of Nico looked at Reaper with disgust, "There is no way in Hades that I am going to merge with this thing, I-"
Light Nico was interrupted by a growl that came from the original Nico. Reaper narrowed his eyes and was about to turn his lightsaber on. Before he could activate it, Nico unleashed a blast of power that lifted the dark and the light from their feet and blew them into the wall.
The two must have used the Force to cushion their impact, for neither appeared hurt. Both leapt to their feet and spaced themselves apart for combat. Reapers hilt came back to his hand after he dropped it, yet again, and made a black line in the air. Light Nico held his sword low, in a variant of medium style while Reaper held his lightsaber in his usual reverse grip.
Using the Force, Nico jerked Reaper's hilt from his hand and brought it flying into his own grasp. Then he just simply crush it in his bare hand, the Force augmenting his strength. And Reaper's sneer melted in the heat of his surprise.
Nico advanced on him, heedless of the light Nico, imagining the feel of his hands on the dark sides throat. Reaper answered his approach with a blast of power, but Nico made a V with his hands, formed a wedge with his will. And the push just made him deflect it to his left and right. The light Nico, caught in the deflective blast, was thrown backward ten paces.
Nico used the Force to lift Reaper up and then he used the Force to lift light Nico up, and he bought them so they were only two metres away from each other. He looked Reaper in the eyes, and the darkness flinched at the calm power that was churning within the son of Hades' eyes.
"You will stay away from my love." Nico said in a powerful voice that it made both the dark and light side flinch as Nico started Force choking them, "Am I understood?"
"Y-yes," Reaper choked out.
Nico then looked at the ten year old light side, who, just like Reaper, was being held by the neck and being choked by the Force, "You will merge with the dark side, am I clear?"
"C-cr-cryst-crystal." The light side stuttered.
"Both of you," Nico started as he started lowering his hold on there throats, "Swear upon the River Styx."
"I swear upon the River Styx to merge with the darkness as long as he keeps away from the one pure love in your heart." the Light Nico said immediately.
Reaper glared at Nico, "I will find a way out of this," He growled, before saying, "I swear upon the River Styx to merge with the light and not to mess with your one pure love." He said the last three words with disgust evident in his voice.
Nico smiled calmly, "That wasn't so hard now was it?" He questioned, only to receive glares from two children of Hades as he lowered them to the floor.
Light Nico looked at Reaper and sighed in disgust. "Well, this is just great." He said with a roll of his eyes, "Do you smoke?"
Reaper frowned and looked at the light Nico incredulously, "Of course I don't. I still hold the damn form of Reaper and my lungs are still messed up."
"Oi," Nico said with a snap of his fingers, making them look at him with irritated expressions, "Start the merge now, if you don't mind."
Reaper rolled his eyes, "Fine," Light Nico just sighed one more time before the two started chanting.
There is no emotion, there is peace.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
Through Passion, I gain strength.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
Through strength, I gain power.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
Through power, I gain victory.
There is no death, there is the Force.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.
Then as one, they spoke as there forms started to merge into one another.
There is No Dark Side, nor a Light Side
There is Only the Force
I will do what I must to keep the balance
The balance is what keeps me together
There is no good without evil, but evil must not be allowed to flourish
There is passion, Yet peace
Serenity, Yet emotion
Chaos, Yet order
I am the wielder of the flame, the protector of balance
I am the holder of the torch, lighting the way
I am the keeper of the flame, soldier of balance
I am a guardian of balance
I am a Grey Jedi
As the two entity's of dark and light started to merge into each other, there forms started to change as well. It looked just like Nico now, with the black Jedi robes and black as night lightsaber strapped to his waist. The same cold look in his eyes. Everything that Nico looked like right now.
The light and dark sides of Nico no longer existed, there was only an endless shade of grey. Although, if you sensed closely within this Nico, you would be able to sense a small amount of pure light within him, but only if you looked closely into his heart.
Grey Nico smiled at the original Nico and walked up to him and before the Ghost King could say or do anything the grey version of himself walked right into him, just like how that little girl in the hut at Kashyyyk did, Hestia was her name if Nico remembered. And for once in Nico's strange life, he felt the confusion leave him. His split identities merged into one. He felt whole again. He felt at peace. He felt...in balance.
"Congratulation!" A voice shouted that was directly next to the Prince of Death's ear, making him nearly jump ten feet into the air, So much for peace. He mentally grumbled as he turned to look at the Father, who had come down from his podium and was now looking at Nico with a small smile. "You have completed the test, your light and dark sides are now one."
Nico sighed, he hadn't forgotten the rush of resentment he feels for the Father, and suddenly, a question popped inside the Ghost Kings mind, "Father, if I may, I have a question for you."
The Father raised an eyebrow, "You may ask."
"Will it ever end?"
At that, the small smile the was on the Father's face disappeared and he looked at the Ghost King with no expression. The Father knew exactly what the Ghost King was talking about. The endless wars that he has to be apart of. The endless tasks that he has to do to make sure that the right side wins that war. The endless pain and suffering that he has to go through and then be completely forgotten.
"That isn't for me to tell." The Father said, in a somewhat uncertain tone of voice.
Nico sighed, In other words 'no'. "Okay then, answer me this, did the Fates create me just so I could be there fucking puppet?"
The Father frowned and shook his head, "I do not have the answers to all of your questions."
Nico rolled his eyes, "You know what, just forget about it. What else do you have to teach me or warn me about?" He questioned, his voice was calm though there was an underlying tone of bitterness and resentment in it.
The Father frowned but shook his head, "There is nothing else that I will teach you and there are no more warnings."
Nico's eyes widened as he openly gaped at the Father, "What do you mean 'there's nothing else'? All you did was warn me about an immortal Sith that can destroy planets and you taught me how to control my light and darkness. How is that supposed to help me defeat the Emperor?"
The Father's frown deepened, "You must understand that I can only tell you so much," He said, "I want to tell you more, but even I must bow before the Fates."
Nico growled, Them again? Right, the next time I see those old hags I am going to smash there faces in.
"What now then?" He questioned in a frustrated voice.
"Now this." The Father responded as he, once again, reached up and touched Nico's forehead, making him black out.
The Father watched as the boy fell to the floor with no expression and he suddenly felt two presences moving toward him, and the Father could tell that it was his Son and Daughter.
Once they were next to him they both stared down at the unconscious demigod, "Do you truly believe that he can do it Father?" the Daughter asked in her same serene voice.
The Father sighed, "I don't know, we can only hope." He said as he waved his hand and the body of Nico Di Angelo disappeared.
The Son narrowed his blood-red eyes, "He better, there can only be one entity of the dark side, and that's me." The Son said with his usual two voices.
"We can only hope that he wins." The Father said as he looked up at the sky.
Line break
Nico growled with his eyes still closed, he was getting very fed up with that trick the Father always plays on him and he opened his eyes and looked around for the Father, but he couldn't find him. With a start, Nico realized that he's in the pilot seat of his ship. In exactly the same place before he was sucked into Mortis. Looking out through the viewport, Nico could no longer see the crystal shaped structure that the Father had lived in, though he could see a familiar triangular shaped red and grey ship.
"Commander Di Angelo, you there sir?" A voice came from the intercom, making Nico jump a little and come out of his daze.
Nico pressed the button for the intercom, "I read you Captain, can you hear me?"
"Yes sir, standing by for further orders. We were worried, you were off the scope for a moment." The Clone Captain said.
Nico blinked, "Wait, did you just say a moment?" He questioned, he was pretty sure he was gone for a day or two, "I've been gone longer than a moment."
"I don't understand sir." And Nico could hear the confusion in the Captains voice.
Nico sighed, did the Father really stop time? He shook his head, Don't think about it, you'll just get more confused.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you Captain." Nico said with a small bitter smirk, "I'm coming in, standby."
As Nico moved the ship toward the Venator Star Destroyer he couldn't help but think about what the Father had warned him about, the Sith Emperor, there being more Sith out there then the Jedi first realized.
The Council must be informed of this immediately.
Line break
Once Nico arrived back at Coruscant he immediately went up to the Central Spire to tell the Jedi Councillors of what he has discovered. When only Yoda and Windu showed up Nico immediately requested that all of the Jedi Council be in session. So now the entire room was filled with holograms of all the Jedi Councillors that were out on missions, most of them looked slightly disgruntled but kept there attention on Nico as he started to explain what he had found out.
As the Prince of Death continued to tell them of his very strange story, he could sense the mounting incredulity the Jedi Council was feeling, and as soon as he started talking about the immortal Sith Emperor, one of the Councillors, Master Oppo Rancisis, immediately shot up, an enraged look crossing his face.
"Enough of this!" He shouted, drawing the attention of the rest of the room, "We have put up with your beliefs in Gods for long enough! We have a war on our hands and you are trying to make us believe that there is an immortal Sith out there that we don't even know about!?" He shouted incredulously, and several other Councillors either frowned at him or nodded there heads in agreement.
"Master Rancisis, calm yourself." Master Fay said as she continued looking at Nico with no expression.
The Jedi Master shook his head, "No. We have but up with his insane beliefs of Gods and him believing that he is a child of a God for far too long." He said as he suddenly pointed at Nico, who had narrowed his eyes at the Jedi Councillor, "Now, he believes that there are Gods of the light and dark side of the Force, and that there is some immortal Sith out there, ready to destroy the galaxy."
"Its true," Nico growled at the ignorant Jedi Master, "There is an immortal Sith out there and he will stop at nothing until he obliterates the entire galaxy."
"Did anyone else see these apparent 'Force-weilders'?" The Master questioned, using air quotes.
Nico's jaw clenched, "No."
Rancisis rolled his holographic eyes, "And what would this Sith gain from destroying the galaxy?"
Nico shook his head, "I don't no. He's a mad man."
"Just like you!"
"Enough." Mace Windu commanded firmly and the Jedi Master sat back in his chair while Nico looked back at Windu, "You must understand Di Angelo that these claims are very unbelievable."
Nico sighed, "Why would I lie? I don't see the point," he says "I thought that the immortal Sith was just a myth as well, but after seeing Nathema I have no doubt in my mind that-"
"Enough," Windu said with a tired sigh, "Enough with all of this Di Angelo." Nico raised an eyebrow at that, but kept quiet, "We have something of more importance to talk about other than your claims of an immortal Sith Emperor that is told to scare younglings somewhere out in the galaxy."
Nico's jaw clenched and he glared at Windu, "And what might that be?"
"You're place in the Jedi Order."
That made Nico blink, "What?"
Once again, Windu sighed before straightening up and putting on an emotionless mask, "Clone spies have found something within Separatist data that I think I should show you." He said as he pulled a datachip out from his robes and put it in a slot on his red chair causing a hologram to come up in the middle of the chamber, and as Nico moved back and out of the way of the hologram, he recognized exactly what it was.
Three figures were on the hologram, all three looked battered, two females and one male, one of the females was a very familiar Togruta, Ahsoka Tano and the other female was a Mirialan, Barriss Offe, while the male was a very recognizable human, Nico Di Angelo.
Nico recognized the inside of a Separatist tank when he saw one, and his blood suddenly ran cold as he realized what those Clone spies picked up on...what Nico wanted to know was why they would bother telling the Council about a romance going on between two teenage Jedi when they have more important stuff to do.
Barriss was knocked out while Ahsoka had her head leaning against Nico's shoulder, Reaper looked down upon her and spoke. "Don't worry Ahsoka, I'm sure Skywalker will find us." He said and the real Nico's eyes narrowed, Wasn't Ahsoka meant to kiss me by now?
Ahsoka continued to cry so the hologram of Nico grabbed her softly by the chin and kissed her. Nico's eyes widened and he looked around the Council Chamber to see what the reaction of the Jedi was, but it seemed like they have already watched this because they all kept stoic faces.
The kiss lasted for several seconds until Nico pulled away, "We'll get through this together." He said softly, making Ahsoka smile softly and Nico narrowed his eyes further, This is bullshit!
Nico immediately started talking when the hologram winked off, "That didn't happen!" He exclaimed as all of the Jedi looked at him, except for Yoda who had his eyes closed ever since Nico had started explaining about the god like Force-wielders.
Windu raised an eyebrow, "It looks like it did."
Nico's jaw clenched, Shit, shit, shit, what do I do? He thought in panic as the Jedi continued to stare at him, waiting for an explanation. I can't exactly tell them that it was Ahsoka who kissed me because they will obviously want some proof and I don't want to get her in trouble, this is very bad.
"Do you have an explanation?" Windu questioned, at the stoic silence he received he continued, "We aren't going to punish Padawan Tano because she wasn't the one who initiated it, but you" Windu started as he frowned at the wide eyed Ghost King, "We have given you multiple chances throughout the time you have stayed with the Jedi Order. But during those chances you have lied to us time and time again. You don't follow orders. And now, we see that you are trying to make one of the Orders Padawans leave the Jedi-"
"That isn't true!" Nico exclaimed, but Windu just glared and ignored his exclamation.
"You won't tell us where you learned Umbrakinesis and now you are telling us that you believe in an immortal Emperor?" Windu questioned, his emotionless mask slipping slightly as he let a little anger out. "We also only recently found out that you are the one who let the son of Jango Fett escape after he destroyed an entire Venator cruiser and tried to assassinate me."
Nico was now desperate, he could tell what was coming and he didn't like it one bit, he looked over at Yoda, "Master Yoda, you once said that you respect my opinion, please, you've got to believe me when I say that this Sith threat is real." Trying to make him grasp what was coming and that they would need his help.
Yoda finally looked up at Nico with wise eyes, Nico couldn't tell whether the Grand Master believed him or not, but he didn't get the chance to find out as Windu suddenly broke his staring contest with the diminutive Jedi Master.
"The Council has already talked about this," He said, ignoring the desperate looks Nico was giving Yoda and watching as the Council chamber doors opened, revealing six Jedi consular guards who quickly surrounded Nico and activated there double-bladed yellow lightsabers, "And it was put to a vote and the majority won. I am sorry Di Angelo, but you are no longer under the protection of the Jedi order," He said as he stood up from his chair and ignited his purple lightsaber, "In the name of the Chancellor you are under arrest."
I know, I know, it all seems random and to be honest, I confused myself while writing this chapter. But this is what I've been working on so try and understand it, if you don't, I'll try and explain things in a PM or if you tell me in a review.
I know that this chapter isn't exactly like the episode of Mortis, but that's because I didn't involve the other three in it, alright. This chapter was about Nico realizing that there was a bigger threat out there other than the Separatists. And yes, the immortal Sith Emperor is real, and no, I don't know if he is stronger than Sidious or not, but seeing how he's had more time to Master his skills with the Force, I'm going with probably.
Now, to all of you major Star Wars fans out there, I know that Revan and the Emperor aren't canon any more thanks to the dickheads at Disney, but they were canon when I started this story so I'm going to keep it like that.
As for the mental rant that Nico went on about how horrible his life is, don't tell me that he sounds like a child because if I was him I would have gone completely insane by now. And yes, all of those things that Nico thought are true, including the thing with Percy abandoning him, even Percy admits that he forgot about Nico.
As for the next chapter, well, I can't wait for that one cause its going to involve the one thing that you reviewers have not stopped asking for...Nico using his powers to raise the dead. Mwahahaha. Can you take a guess on what he will be raising? I'll give you a clue, they have lightsabers.
Onto the reviews...

Ooooo! Yea! We FINALLY get to see Percy & Co!
This is one of the few times that I agree with Aphrodite. Nico and Asokah are SUPER adorable! I REALLY hope it works out.
Are you still accepting OCs, because I have a couple who would be really fun in this story!
Hmm, well, as you can see from this chapter. It ain't working out so well for them. About OC's, sorry, but I'm not, you can run it by me and I might accept it if its good, but I have enough OC's as it is.
